Hi noob here, lol.
I didnt see any onfo on Pandora for Android so I e-mailed them and heres the response I got.
Hi (insert my name here),
Each version of Pandora software for a portable device needs to be separately developed and approved by the cell carrier. PDA devices like the G1 require extensive testing before they can be certified. Unfortunately that slows the development cycle. I don't know how long it will be for the G1. It's a particularly complicated device.
You can see the up-to-date list of supported Phones at http://www.pandora.com/on-the-go
Thanks for writing. We love feedback and we read absolutely everything!

Pandora Listener Support
Looks like they have an app in development for the G1. No info on release time frame, but at least its not the usual no comment you expect to get. Good news as I plan on gettin a G1 in a couple of months and love my Pandora.
Well I'm perfectly happy with Imeem. Works just as well for me imo.
havent tried imeem yet, but since I already have a pretty good station set up on pandora its nice to know that they are aparantly working on something for Android.
Pandora on my Hermes was quite nie - I had just started using it.
I can't wat for an Android version. Last.fm is tollerable (almost), and I haven't tried iMeem, b/c I just want Pandora!
-bZj
That's interesting, because i thought one of the bright spots of the Android platform was that it was UN-complicated to create an app for it. Maybe they're doing it wrong!
Yeah I am using Streamfurious and it does what I need it to. Never had a chance to try Pandora, it will be nice to try on the G1
I would love pandora but Imeem gets the job done and does it well.
Have used SF, last.fm, drizzler and practically every other app for the andriod and it seems to me imeem is the closest thing to pandora.
I'm really holding out for Pandora. I use it on my home PC all the time and I can't wait to have it on my G1.
It may be some what difficult to create a pandora app. The songs are just aac files downloaded over http get requests. However the control channel is encrypted (the control channel being signing in, pandora server saying what song to pay, and feedback, etc). However like any DRM scheme pandora has to give you (the user) a way to decrypt and encrypt the control channel so you can actually use it. This means that the key used to encrypt/decrypt is located in the flash player which gets downloaded to your computer. I have used used flash decompilers and it is there (although obfuscated). The encryption is labeled "blowfish" in the code, however the decompilation was problematic and produced errors in the code. I have used Flasm to look at the flash assembly but have not got very far. It should be not extremely hard to reverse engineer this thing so we can create other players, say on android. However I have not had the time recently. Anyway thought I would share encase others wanted to know information.
I got the JAD for blackberry and the JAR for sprint phones hosted at http://moosefist.byethost2.com/ I tried running them through the J2ME converter available in the market but I get this error
Code:
Error in startnull
"CustomErrorjava.io.IOException: CustomError
at com.netmite,util.AndroidUtils.
downloadURL(Unknown Source)
at com.netmite.ade.MIDletInfo.
downloadApkFile(Unknown Source)
"
Are there any JAVA guru's willing to give this a shot? maybe this deserves a separate more dedicated post in the Development forum...
Really Immem? If you really think it holds even a thought of a candle to Pandora.. then my guess would be that you just hate music or you like the top 100 chart, which by the way Imeem does very well, But trying listing to Nick Cave, or Infected Mushroom, or Iggy Pop, or Choking Victim, or Leonard Cohen.. they have no clue how to make a radio station tailored to the artist, or even artist in the same genre. They have an app for the CrackBerrys on T-Mobile, so my guess is that its not T-Mobile being.. well T-Mobile this time. (what a novel concept)
For the time being we will have to make due with imeem or lastfm
//j
Imeem's variety sucks. Last.fm is nice but is too slow to load over EDGE.

I just got this email from the developer of the J2ME converter
Code:
Hi, Raul,
Thanks for this information, we had took a look at the file in that web site.
There are two problems with it,
1, the jad does not have MIDlet-JAR-URL point to a valid jar file
2, the jar file refers to some custom sprint API.
We can circumverting this issue and will give u a working version in the coming release.
Thanks,
Dana
Hopefully if they get this ironed out we can have a working port of pandora from one of these files. I still invite any JAVA pro's to be them to the punch. The files are at http://moosefist.byethost2.com/ if someone wants to try.

well if t-mo would get a ove on and listen to their customers most of us would have 3G by now. they have been telling me for three years that i would have it in 3G by the end of the year, but this isn't the place for my whining.
i personally like imeem and most of the bands that it puts in the same station as my favs, problem is though that it repeats the same songs over and over. pandora is nice but i never got used to it. it puts all kinds of weird stuff with my favs AFI and Atreyu
yeah, its not t-mobile I am on EDGE, its AT&T's for not adopting the Android platform yet....

So I was using WMP on my Tilt and noticed that when I started listening to music my free program memory tanked to less then 5% free. I've tested this many times now and it does it everytime. After a few minutes, the free memory will increase slightly.
Can anybody else try this and confirm for me if this is an issue across all Tilts?
To test, record your free program memory before openign WMP. Then open WMP, play a song, then check the free program memory. If it's kiek mine, you will see that shoot up from around 35-40% up to +90% load.
Well I did find this shortly after posting, so it appears to be an issue will all Tilts (or WM6 devices in general). Sory for the Google Cached page, the real site wouldn't come up for some reason.
http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:i2YZurIOVBIJ:https://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx%3FPostID%3D2385809%26SiteID%3D65+wmp+11+mobile+uses+program+memory&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us
This is a problem with WMP - not your Kaiser. If you try another player such as CorePlayer, you'll notice it uses far less RAM. Once again - shame on Microsoft for shipping a buggy and inferior product. I actually like WMP and I hate having multiple anything on my phone (media players, browsers, etc) but Microsoft needs to do better internally if they want to compete with devices like the iPhone long-term.
MJB
WMP uses a buffer (FIFO) for playing, the only available storage it has is internal memory.. This is a portable device so the developers of CE kernal thought that if you are watching a video on it that you would not REALLY be doing anything else!
Ergo..what mem is not in use, can be auto associated for buffer.
Hope this gives you an idea of Win CE kernal (base of all WM code).

I agree, it's all to do with back compatability of prior CE WM applications and poor MS upgrades to the kernal!!!
I seriously think MS are just giving us basic apps to fulfill standard tasks, hoping that 3rd party people will improve it!
And YES, it's happening, look at Coreplayer!...
i agree with you all. I wish I could use the default apps, but they suck. I understand MS only giving the user the bare bones stuff but com'on, at least make it work without eating up every ounce of memory.
Anyways, sorry for the MS flame but this issue and many others have been the same thru 3 versions of windows mobile. when will they actually take the time to re-write this stuff. Quit adding new functions, fix the old broken ones. There I go again flaming MS. I've been in the IT biz for nearly 20 years, and using MS products the whole time. By now I should be over the 'MS sucks" stuff..

NO, I fully agree with you. If MS gave us JUST a WM player that was broad aspect on file playability AND an IE that could link to most AV content around on the web at the moment, EVERYONE would be more than happy.
Trouble is, MS HOPED that every web site would make a duplicate mobile one....WON"T HAPPEN!!
Microsoft, get your act together and give us some GOOD surfing software...PLEASE!!!

Awesome. I have been waiting for this for some time now. It would be nice for everyone if there was mirror link posted. Also if the mods could move this to the correct section it would be great too, such as the software section.

SideShow is a feature of Windows Vista and it has not been, and probably will never be, ported to older Windows versions due to underlying differences in the operating systems, driver models etc.
Such a shame this is only bluetooth, other sideshow devices utlise wifi.
Still cool to finally get it though.

It's still in its very early stages, so it may eventually get there and offer wifi support (Salling Clicker does it so MS definitely should be able to get it running).
I couldn't get it to work on my pavillion laptop (dv9700t)...it keeps saying 'can't connect' from the software. Yet, I can see it briefly connect then disconnect on my laptop. Oh well, back to salling clicker....

make sure u follow the installation instruction carefully, and keep trying to connect afterwards. took me a while to get it to work, but it's definitely blows salling clicker out of the water, being it's at a preview stage.... sure has potentials

This is a really neat idea in theory. I just found out about this the other day when Woot had a picture frame for sale that supported SideShow.
I found it much more useful for a device like a dumb terminal picture frame. It could allow you not to just show pictures, but overlay the weather, RSS feeds, e-mail notifications, and even stream music to the frame.
Although I like that it is being supported for WM devices, I don't really see too many advantages of the current widgets/gadgets/whatever that are out there.
A WM phone is already a powerful device that has outlook, media player, office mobile (including power point) that having to stream these as a sideshow to the device seems redundant. I'm sure some plugins will come around that are very innovative, but I don't really see the use other than novelty right now.
The advantage I see would be for developers to write just a sideshow app that can run on many platforms and not just tied to vista.
For instance a sideshow app for Windows Media Center that would allow you to turn your phone into a powerful remote for WMC.
I don't know if 2008 supports sideshow yet, but if they add it in I could see a HUGE benefit of having a server monitoring sideshow that I could connect to remotely. I could keep track of servers remotely and perform some common tasks via the sideshow.
These are the types of things I'd like to see eventually.
This was posted in the general thread, but I see this one is more active so I will post my comments here as well.

I am giving this a shot on my Tilt with the L26 diamond v5 rom. I paired my phone with my Vista business pc and connected right away. Some of the other gadgets you can install are pointless. Gmail viewer? LOL. All you can do is view the mail... so you have to walk back over to the pc and check it anyway. The media player gadget is the best... I could actually see me using this for a party or social gathering where I can control all the tunes from my phone. I COULD NOT get the picture viewer to work!!! When I downloaded the .msi file I got the error "This application is not a valid install fie" or something of that nature.
Any ideas on that one?
i still can't get the bloody thing to work.
in my experiance of it you need to be using microsoft bluetooth stack/drivers, widcom broadcom, toshiba or blueseil dont work, which is a pain because windows bluetooth drivers are very limited as to what else they do, if anybody gets this working with bluesoeil drivers let me know
Hi,

Quick office also have "Quick office for Android"

Both are available from the Marketplace your G1.
Sorry no freeware....

Has anybody tried it? Bit of a challenge to buy it since paid apps aren't available in Canada, so before I go to the trouble, does DTG support any real document formats, like ODT, or is it strictly limited to microcrap?

I bought it. No, at this time, it is not as good as the Palm or other version, but it works. I use it to read and edit my MS Word documents. I also used it to open a Excel document, but that really doesn't matter to me too much.
Just for you, I tried, it said it cannot open because it is not a valid MS Word 97-2008a.
Thanks for checking. Guess they won't be getting any money from me.
You know they will end up making google docs. One day.

I agree... they need a mobile version BADLY!!!! The funny thing is, I believe Google docs. works with Windows Mobile and not Android. That is more of a browser thing but still. Its just plain stupid!!! And why does the Sapphire have a pdf viewer and the G1 doesn't?! It's about time for another RC update so JF can return to do work his magic.

I been thinking about getting that one. How well does it handle larger files (lets say ones larger than 1-2 MB?)
Google docs is pointless since it depends on a network connection. It also puts potentially security sensitive information out of your personal control (which is almost always against the rules when dealing with other people's data).

I believe they would need to make a offline Google docs app, kind of like the offline gmail app they built.
GDocs now on the marketplace. Not made by google, but looks like it has on and offline support. I am downloading it now. oh and its free.
Well tested it out, and does not work well at all, but it in early beta I think it said .21 So it has time, But at least someone is working on it.
just updated and works a bit better, It will not pull down info from the web, and update info from g1. But will not update data back down to g1. only way to is to delete doc off the phone and re download it.

I have docs to go, and it isn't even really noticeably slower opening 2+MB files. It handles them just fine. I even threw a 7MB doc file with embedded images at it, no problem.
I just had a look at that and it has a *very very* long way to go. Its basically worthless and I don't expect it to go anywhere near far enough to actually be useful. I suspect that it was whipped together in about a half hour. All it is is a text editor, it downloads the TEXT from your google doc and stores it in an sqlite3 database file. No formatting or anything. It doesn't even save the odt file to local. I seriously doubt that the author has the skills to develop a full word processor.

Like so many of those great little apps and neat little softwares we find out there, Microsoft Live Mesh seems to be one of those personal favorites of mine that has been thrown to the wayside by what most likely is "Progress".
BACKGROUND
For those that find this application new to their world, Microsoft Live Mesh (http://www.mesh.com) is a Multi-Device Synchronization tool, also called a "cloud service", that creates and / or modifies a folder on either your Microsoft Windows PC, Apple PC, or Windows Mobile Device to allow synchronization of the content in that folder with other designated devices within the "cloud". Each folder can be set with specific permissions and can be allowed or denied access to other designated users. I've always felt as though this was a wonderful and amazing tool and had been using the service for a few years. As with many other members of this forum, I to find myself flashing many different ROM's on what can be a daily basis if the amazing chef's out there are hot in the kitchen!, and MS Live Mesh really made that process easier by allowing me to sync desired content that would have otherwise been tedious and allowed me to take my files I have on my PC with my on my WM PPC where ever I had an internet connection.
CURRENT STATUS
Sadly, as of the past year or so this wonderful software has become seriously underdeveloped, and I wanted to try and take a step toward a revival of this great application. One might argue that the reason for lack of development might be because of newer development in different and update phone software, or that there was not enough of a community outcry for this type of application. Whatever the case may be, one last cry for help on what has turned out to be a world renowned mobile device forum wouldn't hurt, right?
There is an already running MS Forum on the subject of development where if this sort of thing does perk your interest, you can find more information about what fixes have already been found. There is also already a forum on XDA Developers that has already been started... but the last thing mentioned in that forum was about getting access to the tech preview of the application.
MY RESULTS
So far, I have run into consistant failure in using the software using any of the new ROM's for my Fuze and am usually met with the same result... when I try to lauch the application on my Fuze, it crashes before finishing loading, or after I finish the login process, I am met with a setup error when trying to add my device to the cloud.
There you have it, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. If you have any idea's on how we might be able to get this up and running again, please feel free to post and let's really get some community development action going on! Hopefully it's not the case that MS has just pulled the plug on the whole thing and didn't tell anyone, right? :?
My understanding is that Mesh is being merged with Windows Live Sync (as part of Windows Live Wave 4). Hence data will be synced into Skydrive rather than the separate Mesh storage area. Hopefully this will mean a new winmo 6.5 client, although there is talk that this might be phone7 only
No release date for wave 4 yet either
I have a website that uses AppCache and I would like to know if the IE engine in Windows Phone 8/8.1 supports AppCache/Local Storage/IndexedDB.
It's more of a scripting IDE than a web page and if it works correctly it will store about 5 megs of web files into an AppCache so it could work offline. You would probably need to delete/clean internet files if you want to get rid of that.
The web page is at :
http://www.obeliskos.com/TridentSandbox
At the top left (if it works correctly) you will see status for LS (local storage), IDB (indexedDB), and AC (AppCache) ... the appcache should show downloading and then idle.
Can someone test and let me know what the status information of LS/IDB/AC are.... or if you use it, how well it works? There's a samples browser button (second from right under help) if it lets you load all the samples.
Thanks
LS/IDB/AC all work great! WP8, IE10. Haven't had a chance to really play with it yet, but you will probably want to make it more mobile-friendly. We don't have meta-keys on the phone.
hah, your all over this forum and once again with good info, thanks!
Yea I was thinking of using it just as a viewer to run prg files created on tablet/desktop and saved to skydrive. I think xbox one IE also fully supports and that has skydrive and possibly keyboard/mouse as well. I guess it might be good cross-platform for simple user programs.
Looks like I have a reason to upgrade my phone sometime soon now
