Been a tilt owner since Late dec/Early Jan '09, and only recently have I reflashed the 3rd party rom that came with my phone (bought it used). After some reading and research on this forum I'm proud to say that my tilt is running 95% exactly how I want it to - 5% accounting for an odd bug and some menu stuff I dont want lol.
My main reason for the tilt was its built in GPS and the qwerty kb. the rom that was on the phone was laggy in all sorts of areas, but now its super fast and clear type font works in landscape mode too
my setup:
Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2_1_65.14.06_CubeV2_
KAIS_RADIO_ONLY_1.71.09.01_CustomRuu
iGO8 GPS (Nav n Go)
SPB mobile Shell
now my GPS works, landscape switches over fast, keyboard works fast, I love this phone
Thanks everyone here on xda for all the great posts and info!
Good to hear when someone took the time to get to know their device and make it how they want it instead of complaining about the issues of the stock roms!
Just curious, what exactly are the issues that fall in your 5%?
part of the 5% is just lil bugs like running mobile shell + dutty rom, when viewing the missed calls menu, its missing the "calls in, out, connected" menu bar at the bottom at times, but reappears after a reset.
or stuff like when using a b/t headset, with my ringer on, sometimes it doesnt ring, when my old rom used to.. just lil things to figure out when i have time to play around with it more.
my most prized accomplishment is the gps, one of the sole reasons i wanted the phone
i've got the Tytn 2 as well, perfect pocket PC for me, Qwerty kb, Built-in GPS.
Everthing i want is in it, only the cam (3.1MP) is not enough.
But there is a lot of information on this website, i will thank everbody who has worked on it.
Now is wanna flash the ROM to install WM 6.5 beta, but its difficult cause there is so much info.
I think i can do it, with a little help.

My sister recently got the O2 Ignito - her first ever Windows Mobile phone. Now I have been a Windows Mobile user for many years and love it because of all the apps out there and primarily the XDA community and its onging development.
Anyway, she is finding the phone so slow at times and it virtually stops to a crawl or freezes where she needs to reset. She is finding this increasingly frustrating and annoying that she says she is fed up with it and wants to return it. I told her to bear with it and it will take time to get used to a new OS and how it works. She knows about making sure to close apps so they dont run in the background. I know the long term benefits of Windows Mobile and this is why I want her to persist with the phone.
The thing is I don't know why the phone is slow. It has the latest O2 1.93 rom. I have applied and undid some of the touchflo speed tweaks to no avail or difference. The refresh rate of the icons appearing on the screen one by one is quite noticeable when you open the programs menu.
What can I do to speed up the phone and convince her to stick with it?
Thanks!
Cant say why your xda is slow, but it may still be a good idea to flash with the stock rom and get rid of O2's junk,
Surur
the o2 stock rom is actually pretty quick, so i don't see what the problem could be, has she installed lots of software etc? maybe a hard reset may be of help
Well she hasn't installed a lot of software. I have But what is the point of having a WM phone if you can't install stuff on it?
I have no idea why it slows down too.
Mine used to go super slow & almost stop after using the Youtube application. When I upgraded Adobe flash player to newest version for ppc, the lagging stopped. I have since removed the newest flash as the keypad kept popping up on websites that displayed a flash file & got annoying, but reverting to the old version didn't cause the lag to come back, so everything is fine now
After seeing an Iphone in action I think they seem to run a lot smoother & more user friendly, but then you can't install your own apps & extras so easy on them. Maybe an iphone would suit her better?
I like ppc because its easily customisable, if the iphone wasn't locked up to hell I probably would have gone for one of them instead.
this is my first windows phone (i have a 5yr old pda just for sat nav, which now i have a diamond seems fast when using start menu etc).
Although i do like my diamond, i am disappointed with its speed and generally how flakey a windows phone is. Its like going back to windows98.
I saw used a mates iphone before i got the diamond and though the nicer screen res and the smaller device would beat that hands down. but now i've used the iphone since it seems really nice and quick and flowing to use. but yeah u cant add as many apps

that's all? can not add apps? lol! copy/paste, multitasking, 3G......see how many ppl are happy with their iphone:

Maybe if you installed an app that she likes... There are several games outhere, or maybe an app to watch TV over 3G or WiFi.
Did you try one of the themes out there? I made a purple-pink theme for my gf's Diamond and she loves it. Try something similar...
Actually I installed the pink girly theme and the red vodafone theme. She now prefers the black htc theme. Also I installed apps and games that she would like and find useful. She thinks by adding lots of apps it will slow the phone down but I tell he then what is the point of having 4 gigs of storage? Just for music? She tells me it gets extremely hot and lags a bit. It does. I played with it.
I hear some people disable touchflo for a speedier phone. Its a shame, its a lovely interface so why remove it?
Am confused. For example with SK Tools there are optimizations for performance, stability and memory. Initially I did it for performance. Now I changed it to stability. Surely all free are imposrtant so I don't know which to choose. Also in TF3d Config and Diamond tweak apps, do the optimizations really work? They say they speed up the phone but at the expense of memory. But if you then get low memory wont this lag the phone? So then what's the point of applying the tweaks if they use up memory.
Anyone advise the best tweaks to apply so the phone is not slow? I would hate for her to return it.
Thanks so much!
Hey guys, haven't really seen much Telus rom representation on these forums, just curious if anyone can verify it's not just me having these problems with my handset.
Basically, landscape mode for SMS/Email is ****ered. It'll work fine the first time after a soft reset, but anytime after that the screen orientation will change, then the app will minimize to manilla (or the phone app sometimes) and revert back to portrait on it's own. This happens both with the hold-call-key method AND gyrator2. I'm fairly certain it's a rom issue (that's unlikely to get fixed, sadly, because it's outside of "normal use") but I figured I'd throw it out there and see if anyone else with a Telus HTC Diamond can tell me if theirs does the same thing.
Cheers
I've got a Telus Diamond as well, and yes, using landscape orientation is buggy at best. Gyrator 2 kinda works, but as you've mentioned in some apps when I change the orientation it'll kick me back to manilla.
Unless Telus/HTC issue some sort of official software or ROM upgrade - which seems unlikely - your best option is to flash the phone with a custom ROM like this one. I'm planning to do it myself once I work up the nerve and once I find the time I'll need to reinstall a bazillion programs.
hey yea i have a telus diamond as well, its started with my opera not wanting to rotate, and after trying Gsen and the rotatescreen app, same thing keeps happening. that juicy rom does look good.
hell yeah! didn't know 2.7 came out, i'm all over this. thanks
Update: Juicy 2.7 rocks, fixed my landscape problems and seems to be quicker for GPS locking.
Just wandering because I have wanted a Diamond from the very first time I set eyes on one. I am not into messing with it as much as I see most members are here. I surely would like to have a better, faster, stronger Diamond but not at the expense of having to reboot every other day, or having it do some weird thing just when I need it the most. I need to know, should I get one, given that I probably am too chicken to mod it? My main uses would be basic phone functions, camera and GPS. I am not really into music and surfing is really too slow and costly, except over WIFI, which I never seem to get when I really need it .
Thanks Wayne.
My Orange ROM is fine. No branding. Fast and stable. Does everyting you want
Installed a few extra apps like Tomtom and S2P (music player)
I have the NAM version available at best buy. No problems at all with the stock rom. Its fast stable, and the radios, gps, etc all work fine. Cant see flashing a rom when I have no problems with the stock rom and no performance issues. Fiddling is a different story. IMO the diamond needs some tweaking to reach its potential. An example would be that on mine at the tf3d home screen there is a soft button for phone which performs exactly the same as the hard button for phone. Cant figure out who thought it would be a good idea but I used advanced config to change the softkey to contacts.
I am happy with the phone, especially its compact size. I haven't flashed any ROM yet, just using the Telstra stock rom for the last 5 months. Very stable and no hard-reset so far. Though I think I would flash some other ROMs soon as I just can't resist the temptations and the excitement of playing with the phone.

I have the US Version too, I got it from Ebay last week, and some tweaks via Advanced Config it's running like a champ! The only issue I have is every once in a while, TouchFlo 3F will freeze for what seems like forever, then start working again okay, I'm not sure if it's just normal or something is conflicting somewhere.
Using stock rom since first day i got my diamond, only hard reset once since, and thats the first day i got it
the only thing that irks me is the meager amount of device memory available
Looking through all the custom roms, doesnt really find one that suits me, so.. stock rom for me then
Stock Sprint ROM here... no issues, other than the phone's lack of device memory as stated above. Not much I can do there, and I like the look of Sprint's TF3D, so I'm keeping it.
been running stock UK ROM for six months and working fine. Would love to take some of the apps out that came with phone to free up memory such as IE and MSN, but can't do that without using a cooked ROM, and my need does not take me past the point of having a bricked phone to do it! I have installed some other programs (mostly games), but if you are using the phone for what you say you will have no bother at all with memory.
The only bad things about the phone is the battery life is rubbish with the stock 940 battery. I have upgraded to the 1340 one and that has solved all my problems, so I would say try and get one with the bigger battery with it (bear in mind it does make the phone slightly wider and the back cover is matt not gloss that comes with the larger battery).
Hope this helps.
Yes best phone i ever had
Very happy with the stock 1.93 ROM. I only reset maybe once every month, and the phone is on 24/7. Best thing I did was to disable TouchFlow 3D and install SPB Mobile Shell.
o2 German Stock Rom 1.93 with small reg. Tweaks. Runs fine and i am happy.
Wow, that's great to hear. I think you get too caught up in all the negative stuff when you do any kind of search on electronic devices. I am not apposed to flashing a new rom it is just that I know with every good thing there is always attached some weird and wonderful "bug". I am also not apposed to tweaking as I have done so with my Touch. Do any of you have any issues with the GPS? Again, a lot of negative stuff out there, especially about position lag. I just tried a CDMA version at Telus in Toronto, Canada and while playing with the Tflo 3D I noticed some lag at times. It was fast and smooth then it would not move then it seemed to catch up but I had already tried to move it again so it was all over the place then it would be okay. I am waiting for Rogers to get it and if not I might bite the bullet and get an unlocked one.
Thanks for all your replies it is nice to see that I do not have to flash a new rom to be happy.
Dhatw.
A happy one here too with a german stock ROM...
i love my stock rom, i have changed the www europe rom with the eastern Europe stock rom, foundit on an Romanian site.. basically is the same, and i have tried custom rom but they wore not of what i expected so i'm happy with my stock rom, until i learn how to cook mine
I love my diamond, stock unlocked US 3G.
Running stock WWE 1.93 ROM with minor tweaks, cant remember the last time I had to reset & on 24/7.
Top phone, best I've had yet !
Yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,
hapy too with my 1.93 htc rom
the only suggestion I have is
A) Flash the .08 radio (much better for gps easy and no hard reset)
B) use diamond tweak to customize your phone
C) disable quick gps (with diamond tweak)
i did a little bit of theme modding to get rid of most of the stinky T-Mobile branding, other than that everything is running fast and smooth.
would probably be faster and smoother by running another ROM / Radio, but i'm not bothered enough to tinker about that much, not yet anyway.
battery life is a bit crappy when you've got the heavyweights running (GPS/WiFi) but then you'd expect that. phone also gets very hot when charging or in heavy use.
keeps me warm in winter.
overall, i'm definitely happy. if ever i doubt getting this phone i'll put my sim back in my MDA Touch for an hour to remind myself of why i needed a new handset.
At first I was bothered by the battery life but now I either charge overnight or leave it in a cradle at work so it's not an issue, unless I go camping or something
I realised within a few weeks that I didn't like TF3D but, having got rid of it and the HTC Dialer & Volume Control, the Diamond is a much better device now.
I'm unsure if I'll get another HTC device but I'm hoping within the next year-and-a-bit they can come up with a device the same size with a better battery and TV out!
Edit - Oh yeah, not a stock ROM!
Hello,
I now own my Kaiser for about one year (or a little less). But I'm still not satisfied about the overall speed of the device. I'm not talking about reading videos or playing games, just about "normal" use of the Kaiser.
For exemple, opening the HTC phone application (dial pad) takes around 3 seconds. Then, if I dial a number quickly, it "forget" some buttons I pushed. I need to dial my number slowly for the phone to take each button I push ... This is very frustrating !
Another exemple is going to landscape mode which takes 4 seconds ! And when it is in landscape, my Kaiser is like freezed for about 2 other seconds before I can use it.
A 3rd exemple, when answering calls: my Kaiser rings, I press the green button to answer, but it takes around 2-3 seconds before it does really answer. In the mean time, I sometimes loose my call, and this is really frustrating again !
I know I'm only talking about seconds, but I use my Kaiser a lot in a day, and these seconds become minutes ! And when I need to use my Kaiser quickly, these seconds appear much longer than they really are.
My ROM is the original HTC 6.1 ROM. My Kaiser is as light as possible (no Manilla 2D !), but it does not seem to be enough for my Kaiser to be fast.
I tried some cooked ROMS, but from what I experienced the HTC 6.1 is the faster. I also tweaked my Kaiser with all the informations I could find on this great forum (and KaiserTweak)
I would really enjoy an overclocker utility but it does not exist.
So, about you, are you satisfied with your Kaiser speed ?
Isn't there days where you would throw it against a wall because of these anoying lags ?
Thanks !
If this damn thing eats another microSD card I AM going to throw it against the wall. I'm getting tired of loosing my crap and having to re-do everything.
what about the speed of your ka
iser : is it ok for you ?
No complaints about the "speedyness" of the tilt after flashing to a good ROM. If another one fails I'm sending it back and demanding an upgrade to a Fuze tho.
i haven't had mine for very long but I got a little over-excited in the first few weeks and installed anything i could get my hands on. i just did a hard reset, followed by a soft reset to remove the bloatware, and i've noticed that my phone is a lot faster.
your problems do sound infuriating, have you tried backing up your data and wiping the slate clean?
Dear,
Same problems as yours... Using same rom from HTC !
Very slow phone for each task i need
Boring phone when hang-up or dialing, boring when using tt6 and now tt7 (too slow when driving in little streets, and sometimes truncating voices messages), and more generally, very very slow (and i do not speak about camera).
Sure, this version is really a big bug
Comparing to other kind of phones, even cheaper models runs better (camera better and faster, gps fix faster, gps available even in flight mode.
Usually, when opening keyboard, applications hangs due to the screen rotation, and become available a long time after
Definitively, a real diseapointing device.
I'm now waiting for the renewal of my phone contract to change for something better (sure that is not difficult to find)
Regards,
Laurent
I highly recommend flashing a custom rom.
The rom chef's have done a fantastic job tweaking them to run much faster than the stock roms. Try on and you'll never look back.
I'm currently using the Nov 15'th Hyperdragon Rom and I have virtually no complaints about the speed of the rom for day to day activities. M2D runs very smoothly and is much more friendly to your fingers than any of the stock roms I've used.

Thanks a lot ! i did the hard reset followed by the soft reset , then I restored my data : now my Kaiser goes faster ! thanks again !
I have the same issue, not that the kaiser is really slow, but when I compare it with a Wizard (both have custom roms) the Wizard does things a lot faster, like opening start menu, scrolling isn't laggy, change tabs is fast. No matter what rom I use on my kaiser, I can't get to the use speed of the Wizard. Maybe it is because I install programs on the SD instead of the phone itself?
Nothing to Compare to
I don't have anything to really compare to, but my Kaiser - Bloatware removed - seems to work well. My only real complaint is that ending a call with the touchscreen takes a few seconds, but the red end key ends it pretty quick. If there is a delay on some things, it is far outweighed by the functionality I feel I'm getting from my tilt. I use it as primary pc - email, web, movies, word, excel, etc..
I tell people it is a mini computer with a phone added on as an afterthought. That is why with comes with such a crappy phone interface. I downloaded a new skin and it looks and works excellent.

Call ending speed can be instant. Use Kaiser Tweak / Advanced Config tool to change this.
I noticed a marked improvement since I use some of the SKTools utilities like:
- Optimize! http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
- FreeUP RAM Service http://s-k-tools.com/?m_freeuprams.html
- Registry optimization http://s-k-tools.com/?/sktools/m_regopt.html
It has many other features and you can download a trial. It's really worth a try.
dear all,
how can you say that the kaiser isnot slow ?
I use PIE to read this forum, this thread takes 30 to 40 sec to load for 470 kB, while it takes few seconds to dowload bigger files !
I only use pie,tt7 and outlook sync for contacts and appointments.
I also tested 3 roms and tried to tweak some settings, without getting a normal speed.
kaiser is definitively a slow computer with a phone.
basic phones are more responsives than kaiser on many bundled applications.
I do think that kaiser has a lake of something... Maybe some drivers are missing, because if you look at the internal chipset used inside the kaiser, it should very very more powerfull
Call ending speed can be instant. Use Kaiser Tweak / Advanced Config tool to change this.
Please enlighten me, because I hate this. I have to push the button multiples times to disconnect. I have SK Tools as well. It has many good features, unfortunately some of the things it recommends tweaking I have idea what those things are for. I need the cheat sheet for invalid registry entries and values.
I do experience what you describe and I've tried many different ROMs, right now I'm using Garmin.Dk 8 without Manila2d and all the "speed fixes" available.
It's just like that, it has Windows...
But on the other hand, I like that, because it makes it very customizable.
Depends on what you value most.

I had the same issue with dialing numbers. It pissed me off so much I bought an iPhone. I don't have issues with dialing numbers now. I really miss running custom ROMs though.
The iPhone has a lot of other issues, I put up with them because the web browsing experience is better and I can dial without loosing numbers. I wish HTC would get it together, they are very close... I tried a Sprint HTC Touch Pro for a couple of days and couldn't get used to the missing dpad.

dear Spaul,
Windows is not the problem... Other htc phones have Windows and are fast. i.e. TYTN I is faster !
Problem is software, maybe drivers or hardware layer

He has to keep up because he realizes the other 99% of the WM functionality is missing on his new phone and he'll want to come back.
Same thing here
Yeah I experience exactly the same things with mine. I'm not going out the custom ROM path, since it's a company phone. After having tried all sorts of things, I've kind of just accepted its slowness.
But one thing is for sure. After using first the s710, and the the tytn-ii, I'm 95% sure that my next phone is not going to be a HTC, unless I see some very convincing real life demo of the device.
My latest rom is twingerbread and although I had a couple of very minor weird things happen over the last week, I like it, best battery life I have had so far, overall very responsive and seems like good gps (keep forgetting to test it in moving car but looks good and locks fast, better than any other rom I have tried). My issue is that I no longer have the voice to text button on my swype, like I had on my last rom. This for me is the most important feature of all because I hate typing on a phone.
My question is, how hard would it be for a layman, me, to grab the swype from paragon that has the vt button and put in on twingerbread. Is this possible or does it open up a whole big can of worms? Is this a big no no that would piss off the devs? Just want to see if I can DIY this?
BTW, just wanted to say thanks to the xda community, you guys have done some incredible stuff and have helped me since my dell axim a hundred years ago (I've been lurking since forever). Keep up the amazing work.
Jerry
just make sure your rom is 2.2 or higher based, and make sure you have "voice seach by google" installed from market.
