Hi Guys!
When my Diamond is connected to PC it is always ON. Only backlight is off after a while.
But I need the phone to go to sleep (not just backlight off) even if it's connected to PC and activesync.
In other words, I need the same phone behavior as such when it is charged from adapter and go to sleep after a period which is defined in power setings.
Can you help me what and where I need to setup?

Under the power options, I have the 'turn off device if not used for' options selected for both 'on battery power' and 'on external power'. I also have the backlight options to turn off the backlight if not used.
My question is: when connected via Activesync, should the device turn off (as per the settings above). It seems to activate the backlight feature, but not turn off (as per the setting).
Am I understanding this functionality wrongly? thanks.
Hi
My understanding is that when you connect to activesync then that is the same as external power. So, the external power settings apply to activesync (via USB).

Thanks Dave - in that case my power settings do not seem to be working correctly - ie: it does not turn off after 1 minute when connected via USB, however does operate correctly when not connected.
any ideas? thanks.
Has anyone noticed on either the Tilt or Kaiser that sometimes the device will not enter sleep mode?
It seems like when my Tilt running the stock AT&T Rom is on AC power, it will not enter sleep mode even though I have it set to sleep after 5 minutes on AC power. This is not while connected via USB to a PC running ActiveSync as that WILL keep the device alive, I'm talking about connected to the power brick.
After 5 minutes the screen will dim but not sleep. Running on battery power the timeout will usually happen. If it doesn't sleep the display just dims like it did above.
Settings for power are set to shut off after 5 minutes.
Any ideas?
Todd
I've noticed that mine does the same thing, just doesn't turn off when plugged into AC. I'm not aware of any "fix" for it persay, I just dismissed it as a minor bug of the OS. I would be curious if if anyone does have a solution to this, but it's not that big a deal IMO.
I noticed it also, but don't care. However, if it happens while on battery, try changing the time to something else and then back. My battery was draining QUICK and finally I realized that it wasn't turning off. Doing the above fixed it.
Thanks for the replies. Not that I feel better about it but at least others have the same issue. It's not a big deal if plugged, just wondering why.

I just got into the habit of manually hitting the power button and putting it to sleep before holstering it and right after pluging it in.
Same here, it would go to sleep on DC power but would stay awake on AC power.
Dont worry.
I'm sure it goes into sleep when you press the power button.
Ahhh, is that what that button is for?!
hey ya'll, so for the longest time when I would plug the tilt into the wall charger, the screen would NOT turn on (it would not wake up) - however, suddenly, now it does...
I've tried going through all the settings, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it to not wake up when plugged in (wall charger) -- I know it will turn on when plugged into the computer, that's fine -- any help, as always, would be greatly appreciated
thanks!
Well I'm not sure how to stop it from waking when you plug it in, but you can always tell it to go right back into stand-by.
Check out the settings in Start > Settings > System [tab] > Power > Advanced [tab]
You can tell it to "Turn off device if not used for" X amount of time while "On external power".
Not a fix but I hope it helps.
It's a strange thing. I have both a wall charger and a desktop cradle/charger.
When I plug my Tilt into the desktop cradle (without the usb cable connected to the pc), it turns on. But, when I use the wall charger, it doesn't.
This is very consistant. Maybe the pinout is different between the connectors, or the output voltage is different.
It's just something I've gotten used to and can live with.
The Tilt will not wake if you use the wall charger that came with the Tilt. It will wake if you use other types of usb charger

I've noticed that myself and I think it is extremely odd but intelligent.
If your cradle is connected to a PC via USB then it will wake. My Tilt never wakes when I simply plug into the charger, but dropping it into my cradle wakes the PPC and the PC (if it happens to be asleep).
It wakes because there is a sync notification that tells it to on detection of a USB ie. repllog.exe is by default set to run when this key is present "AppRunAtRs232Detect"
Now you can remove this repllog entry, but it means you would have to run repllog manually every time you want to sync.
The following was written for the purpose of replacing repllog entries deleted by mistake. However it will give you some info on what happens when you connect certain Rs232 USB connectors.

I am using the supplied wall charger that came with the phone and the screen powers on when I plug it in. It used to not do this at one point. I believe some thrid party software I installed is causing this. Also the screen with turn on once the charge is complete. Very annoying at night. I don't want to use the on external power settings to blank the screen after x minutes because this messes with using the GPS function while in my car. I want to see the screen while using GPS and plugged into a power source.

It shouldn't, all GPS programs I've tried force backlight on regardless on the system settings while they're running. Which one are you using?
I'm using iGuidance 3.1.
I had to do a hard reset due to an app I installed making my phone go all wonky. After the hard reset and re-installing all my programs I no longer have this problem of the phone waking on external power.
My original Tilt used to do the same thing - screen turned on when plugging into the HTC supplied power cord (even after a H/R with no programs). Eventually, the phone had to be replaced after one day it had a red light after charging a few hours and wouldn't turn on (it had been around 50% when plugged in). My refurbished Tilt mostly does not power on when plugged into the wall charger. Once in a blue moon, it will. It is random enough, I haven't been able to see a common factor as to why.
Any settings to disable wake on USB to computer connection?
A lot of times I plug my Kaiser to PC just to charge it, and I hate to see it connecting every time.
Many thanks!!!
Hello,
As I mentioned in other post my power button doesnt work anymore is there way how to turn phone on without power button ? that way I would be able to keep it on at least
Try this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4SEQ6AUFOI
On my HTC Kaiser the reset doesn't work if the phone is off, unless you also have it plugged in and charging, then the soft reset will turn the phone on. And you can plug or unplug the charger to get the phone to come out of sleep mode (or slide open then close the keyboard, but not all phone have keyboards).
I know that this question has been asked before, but I cannot find a simple solution. Is there not a power manager that enables us to set the phone to stay awake whilst its connected via USB. I currently use green power premium, which is an excellent power manager but again has no such feature, as far as I can see.
To me the problem is that I use my phone Explorer all day long and every time I go to sync the phone is turned off and as such my phone Explorer can't find it.
This is the first phone that I have had that does not appear to have the ability to stay awake whilst connected to a power supply.
