DOOM
There is DOOM available in the android marketplace, seems pretty fast, but there is no sound, and the controls are unstable, yet you can still shoot lol.

The Framerate is not so good! There is no Sound! But Yes, its good to see 3D Shooter for the G1, hope there is coming Sound soon, than i Donate!
As usual I can't download it!
Since i live in france i'm unable to download the good games even if they are free
Any kind people to gimme the apk ?
i cant see it... where is it???
They seem to have taken it off the market. Probably got pissed off with all the idiots complaining about key mappings. Either that or they protected it or are are now charging for it.
The key mappings are fine as long as you adjust them to something suitable. Yes, the same old doom key mapping menu is present (from in game press BACK --> Options --> Setup --> Key bindings). Note: the skull does not move when you go down the menu, but it DOES WORK.

It's back in the market, I assume they pulled it to do a few fixes. The update in the market that fixed the key mappings to at least have a default. The skull does work! press back to pull up menu, then the trackball to navigate, then ENTER to change options if specified to do so on the screen.
the left up arrow = forward
magnifying glass = look left
@ = look right
space = action (open doors)
camera, or menu = shoot
/ = strafe right
? = strafe left
1-10 = change weapons
Also, the framerate is pretty fast, I changed the video settings to OpenGL in the settings.

Has anyone had any trouble getting this to load. I get it to download the files to SD and then it closes. I reopen and select play and it just closes. The dev told me he only tested for firmware 1.0 and I have 1.1 which I thought was the latest. He keeps telling me to update to latest Firmware. Can someone verify this for me? I really want to play this
just wanted to note, i've got a german G1 wit JF143 lucidmodded RC9
and it works fine

You can edit the controlls simply by opening up prboom.cfg with a text editor. Note that it is a Unix file so you can NOT use Notepad. Use www.metapad.com (Notepad replacement, single file, no installation necessary)
Code:
key_up 0x77 // W
key_down 0x73 // S
key_left 0x61 // A
key_right 0x64 // D
key_strafeleft 0x71 // Q
key_straferight 0x65 // E
key_fire 0x9d // Menu
key_menu_escape 0x1b // Back
Here's the file if you just want to drag and drop it in:
http://www.speedyshare.com/369463519.html
Some other random keys I found out if you're interested in the mappings:
0x2c = ,
0x2e = .
0x20 = space
Delete this, double post
Ran smoothly for me the first time. I'm on JF RC33
its available in market, edit controls in the game menu options. SO AWESOME!

I like this. Finaly a good game for the g1 but this a lot of stuff done to it. Like trackball suport if that's possible. And I changed the controls by counting how many times I scrolled so it easy. But still its akward as all get out to use a keybord to look around.

Thanks man, great app.
Wow, excellent app. Credit to JUVS again. Only issue with it is the app opens in landscape mode, but the way for a Hermes, not a Kaiser. It's "upside down" on a Kaiser. Any way to adjust that via a setting? But still even with that, I've already replaced my Pictures Album shortcut on the Start menu
EDIT: NVM, I guess the intent is to view it from the same landscape mode that you would use the camera. Again, its not a big deal, just a little counter-intuitive...I'll deal with it either way. This is very slick stuff...
Dude, i just installed this and all i have to say is THANK YOU! for sure the program of the day installed to my phone

Is it because i got a French UI ?

Since the help file is missing here are some tips
when viewing a picture
---------------------------
make a full BIG circle clockwise will zoom in a small bit
make a full BIG circle counter clockwise will zoom out a small bit
make a full small circle clockwise will zoom in a lot
make a full small circle counter clockwise will zoom out a lot
dragging left to right goes to next picture
dragging right to left goes to previous picture
press and hold brings up to pan so if it's zoomed you can move around
single tap brings up a menu
all that I've figured out so far
open the program, and click open one photo, you can either tap the screen twice or just press the center button in the d pad to bring out a menu, press the letter I for more info on how to rotate, zoom and change photo.

Hello all.
I come to present
my latest homescreen for Android: KustHome
KustHome is actually very inspired from the famous hs + + (formerly BatteryStatus) on Windows Mobile.
Basically you describe your desktop in an xml file that you put in
a folder with lots of PNG and you have the desktop of your dreams.
Catch below the bottom part (robot + hours+signal level, etc ...) is actually assembled from the XML.
(Images are declined in 3 colors to make 3 skins)

}
You can place on the desktop:
- Images
- Gauges: images that change depending on :
- Battery
- The radio signal
- 3G
- The traffic data
- Wifi, bluetooth, etc. ...
- Text (which may change depending on time, to your own clock)
- A notification bar
I intend to add:
- Indicators of gmail, sms notification (for the nostalgic, because the widgets do that very well)
- Skinnable buttons to trigger actions chosen by the skinners
- A real clock to make the same as Sense (if a crazy skinner can make 60 images for the minutes)
In terms of functionality funs:
- coverflow desktop chooser
- coverflow running app chooser (without root)
Themes can be sent to me to be placed on the kusthome server.
For the beta everything is free. The software check on a server
if you have the right to change the theme, and download new.
Once finished the beta software will have a duration of 3 free days. Then only the default theme will be available.
(Practical for testing)
Then users must:
- Buy a paid version
or
- Have completed a theme
or
- Ask me to activate all options (a skinner who email a link with his work on other platforms will always have a free version)
PS : available only from Android 1.6 (and in beta so dont make it your default home screen to avoid brick your phone)
Hi,
I just downloaded this and think that its quite good. It has a lot of potential but there are a few a things that are wrong with it.
1- To get the the desktop thing (displaying all home screens) you have to go to menu, it would be much easier to be able to press one button (e.g. the select button)
2- People like to choose the number of home screens they have (I suggest 1-7)
3- I like the idea of having the notifications at the bottom, but this then makes it confusing with bringing down the bar at the top cause its not there and doesnt slide down properly
4- I cannot get used to the idea of not having a dock which is a major turn off for me
5- The Icons at the top... I'm not sure if they are meant to be switchers but if not then it would be a good idea to make them so, and maybe add some more things.
As I said it has alot of pottential but its not quite there yet, good work though =)
Thanx
Aaron
hi,
1 & 2 are planned.
you must click on the notification to open the bar (but yes they are too small)
a dock is planned
icons on top are not switchers because skinners can made small pictures and put them very closely. But skinnable switchers are planned.
You can use the search button to display the task switcher, but you are right : I will made an option to activate the desktop chooser if user wants.
love the way the screens are when the switcher is activated. maybe make it where the screen switcher is activated by a double tap or something simple like that. i will definitely keep an eye on this!!

Which resolutions supported?

I could also make translation of the program if you're interested.

Sorry : kusthome was unpublished 1 july due to an enormous bug with the previous update. The widgets are inserted each time you run kusthome, so after 10 reboots you have ten widgets on the same place. I have unpublished it and

supported resolutions are;

but kusthome disappear from the market for 1.6... and I dont understand why.

I would love that to be true.
I think I've tested it. Shows some promise, but doesn't seem to read the dBM signal meter on a CDMA phone, and the existing themes are a bit limited.
awsome
I like kust home alot, would love to make my own themes for it as im great at Photoshop , but not to good at ADB (wish i could change that) as of now im swutching between kust and adw ex i like the abilaity to hide status bar and the cool app draw anamations in ADW but i like how in kust it looks nice and clean
Is this even still live? Link is dead
I've got my old vogue, recently the power button quit working. But thanks to AEButton, bootloader cab and sdcard method rom installation, I've been able to live with it. However, Android hasn't been as friendly. Running Myn's warm donut release, the lock screen is the first thing that pops up after the initial loading (SD card method, since I don't want a brick if things go south). And lock screen needs menu button (default assigned to power). I've done some searching but I couldn't make anything out of it. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545393 (xda forums won't let me make it a link since I'm not that active)
Perhaps someone could make a zImage (or whatever file is needed), to reassign the menu button to some other function button (or perhaps button gesture, e.g. double press or long hold), that way those of us who've held on to our vogues (broken buttons and all) can still manage to keep the device from going in the bin.
Thanks.

thanks for the quick replies.
Here are the wm buttons and android assignments on the right
Attached picture has wm button assignment
1. top power: short press = turn on power, wake screen, menu. 1-second long press = toggle keyboard. 2-second long press = toggle portrait/landscape orientation
2. volume slider: volume
3. camera: short press = back. 0.5-second long press = home. 1-second longpress: running app list
4. green: short press = call log. long press = voice dialer
5. red: short press = sleep screen. long press = phone option menu (power off, airplane mode, silent, etc)
6. enter (select), direction keys = standard functions
I'm hoping your python script can assign more than 1 function to a button (long press, double click, etc)
edit: looks like it doesn't, is there any way you can add that? vogue has a very limited set of buttons
and it doesn't look like i can even assign anything to the direction buttons (perhaps at least that, since i can deal without direction pad)
also, i'm not very familiar with android, how would i go about installing this .tar update file from microsd?
Would be more convenient if we can modify the function of the d-pad.
d-pad left = back
d-pad right = menu

In principle, shouldn't this not become an issue with Android if things are properly developed? An android app shouldn't assume a DPad exists, because it often doesn't.
That said, on the smaller, less responsive screen of the vogue, the dpad does come in handy sometimes. I'd love to be able to map long presses on the D-Pad to functions like back, menu, or home.
i think if the D-pad was remapped to be the 4 buttons like most android phones have it could be sweet, but i do like having a D-pad

d-pad right : Menu

Thankyou very much
edit: nm just looked up how to install .tar and haret froyo rom
thanks for the help in adjusting your script for the vogue, l1q1d
where can i download the interface for the vogue because the link is just for the get source
thank you
lol thats something with the browser opening the file
right click and save target as
as mentioned you need to download and install python to run the script
Python is an interpreted language so you have to download what you call "sources" and run using python.
neither myn's donut or incubus's froyo seem to be running stable for me..
donut isn't very responsive at turning screen back on after extended periods in my pocket (takes about a minute after pressing every possible button), while froyo keeps freezing, at which point im forced to reset.
not sure how any of you are using it as the main operating system
i don't think installing on nand would fix those problems (which i couldnt do anyway; damn bootloader requires pressing power)
OFFTOPIC
@nee_vak if you need to install the system on nand use BSG
For anyone who doesn't know, this is a neat and simple trick to make the items on your screen bigger or smaller:
EASY WAY (it will keep the setting until you do a hard reset-- holding the power down for 10 or so seconds until it powers off):
1. Download LCDDensity for Root (free) from Market
2. Change density based on your preferences (higher # = bigger items, lower resolution; lower # = smaller items, higher res)
MORE ADVANCED WAY (if you want the change to survive a hard reboot):
1. In root explorer, navigate to system/ and backup your build.prop file.
2. Set system to r/w
3. Hold down on the original file, and select open in text editor
4. Find the two entries where it says:
ro.sf.lcd_density.xdpi=169.33333
ro.sf.lcd_density.ydpi=169.33333
If you wanted your density to be 250, you'd change them to the following single line:
ro.sf.lcd_density=250
5. Save, reboot, and enjoy your NC's new look.
Here are a couple of my homescreens set at 250:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, jacking up your LCD density much above 200 will make your status bar look wonky and cut-off. One solution for this is to set it to 250, like above (by changing build. prop - I think the app I mentioned only allow multiples of 20), which will make it look clean (as long as wifi is on). The only problem there is that you'll lose your status bar clock and Notifications in portrait mode ...
... the solution for THIS is to get two apps: hellostatusbar, and quick launch. Set quick launch to open hellostatusbar on a home-button double press, and it will display your Notifications.
FYI the Galaxy Tab's default is 240

The free one, LCDDensity for Root, doesn't keep the change after doing a full (battery pull) reboot. To me, this is less than ideal, but if you don't mind changing it again, knock yourself out.
A battery pull reboot on a NOOKcolor? Don't you need a screwdriver for that?

I believe he is using the phone example for reference. In the case of the NC, the free option should be a good alternative for those not wanting to modify scripts.
Anyway, thanks for providing the entries to change manually. It's a good tip.

Yeah, good point - not sure if a power-button-long-hold hard reset would be the equivalent on a Nook or not. If it is only a battery pull that would do it, then you would indeed need a screwdriver and a little bit of masochism for that to be a problem.
EDIT: the long power button hold reset DOES make the free app lose the setting
If anyone's interested in getting the density more like the Galaxy Tab's without having an ugly, cut-off looking status bar in portrait mode (with a couple sacrifices), here's a little work-around I came up with (if you're using softkeys mapped to double-tap of home button, this isn't for you):
1. Set density to 250 using the build.prop editing method. Reboot.
2. Get a market app called HelloStatusBar.
3. Get a market app called QuickLaunch. Open it and set home button double-tap to open HelloStatusBar.
You'll lose your status bar clock, and it'll look ugly with wifi off, but with wifi on, it'll be nice and clean like the pic below:
Your Notifications will be gone, but now you can double-tap home to bring them up:
Very useful and thanks for sharing!
I bought the paid version and it does not survive a reboot. Unless I am doing it wrong. Which is highly likely.

I bought the paid version and it does not survive a reboot. Unless I am doing it wrong. Which is highly likely.

I'm not familiar with the paid version, so I can't really comment on that.
That's ADW EX launcher, with the browser, email, and app drawer icons from the Galaxy Tab. Not sure if Samsung's launcher icons are open source, so I won't post them (PM'd). . .
So wait the galaxy tab comes stock with the screen virtualized to be a different resolution than it actually is?
adwlauncher ex has adjustable icon sizes. You can adjust so icons are a nice size and not interfere with the dock. As if you needed another reason for ex!

I am using LCD Density Changer at 190. Works great.
I manually changed mine to 141, an opposite reaction to many. By doing this I can get 4-5 items in the notification area on the right and things are not too small on the screen.

In the Market.
FYI, the free app works fine with CM7, with none of the problems described by OP, so you can use whatever looks right to you.
I am liking 200, because it makes the back arrow easier to press !
Hacker Keyboard
As the Droid 4 already has a great keyboard I decided it would be even better if it included all the keys.
I tried to keep the keys as close to the original ones as possible and to make the replacements easy to remember.
Functionality
Caps Lock: Replaced with left CTRL key. You can have Caps Lock by pressing Shift 2 times.
Additionally you can work easier with the clipboard:
CTRL+A: Select all
CTRL+X: Cut
CTRL+C: Copy
CTRL+V: Paste
OK: Replaced the OK key with ESC. ENTER was similar to OK anyway.
Additional functionality:
ESC: can be used as BACK in menus
ALT+ESC: HOME
CTRL+ESC: MENU
SYM: Replaced the SYM key with ALT.
Now ALT can be used for key combinations.
ALT+ENTER: to access the SYM Menu
ALT+BackSpace: Delete all line
ALT+Space = SEARCH
ALT+' = ` (backtick)
ALT+q = ~ (tilde)
ALT+j = | (pipe)
ALT+/ = \
ALT+k = [
ALT+l = ]
ALT+o = {
ALT+p = }
ALT+. = >
ALT+, = <
Instalation
Extract the contents of the archive in: /system/usr/ then reboot
You will need root.

CM12
For CM12 see @Puppymang post here
will this work with cm11/other custom roms or is it only for stock?
I am using it on CM11 and it works.
so i tried out your keyboard mod and it doesnt really work for me
basicly my caps lock, SYM, and OK keys become non functional
shift key works but double/single tapping has no function as in i need to hold shift to get it to work which is pretty uncomfortable if i wanna make ! or @
shift , and . actually do < and > now so i guess thats some success?
im using CM11 M10
any ideas?
oh and the phone no longer wakes up with key presses only with the power button and sliding it open
i tried reverting the original files but its still non functional
Hi,
I'll look into it and try to resolve the problem.
For me it works on Cyanogen Mod CM11 M11. Also your keys should work after a reboot.
i followed your instructions including the reboot and this was the end result
not quite sure what went wrong. although i enjoy being able to use > < i also miss being able to quickly make sad/happy faces

I understand. The option to type smiley faces and other chars quickly is the reason to have a full QWERTY keyboard
I'll look into it and post back when it's fixed.
This mod's CTRL key doesn't seem to function during use in VNC sessions (DesktopVNC, RealVNC) with Linux Deploy-created images, although everything else seems to work properly outside of that. Any clue what could cause this? Do I have to make a keymap adjustment in the OS in the image as well?
Hey thank you for the keyboard!
Is there a way to do an exclamation mark [!] without putting both thumbs to the left hand side to hold [shift] and [1]?
It doesn't work just pressing shift and then 1?
Yes it does but shift and 1 are on the same side of the keyboard, there is no shift on the right making it a little awkward. Its a problem of the hardware design really.
If you press shift twice it will be locked as caps lock
okay so i finally got this to work
this time instead of just overwriting the files i edited the permissions to match the ones the other files have with the entire row of R being checked and only ownner for W (first row). everything else unchecked
Lollipop 5.0.2
Hi. Has anyone successfully applied this patch on Lollipop 5.0.2? I tried all the same things that I did on 4.4.4 - copy files, set permissions, but nothing happens, keyboard layout stays the same - no Alt and Ctrl keys. Can't figure out why. Everything was fine on 4.4.4, and now this useless SYM key is back.
i'm sharing what i'm using for CM12.1 (5.1.1) since the the one posted in the OP doesn't work with CM12.x

Thanks for the update @Puppymang.
Unfortunately I can't test it on CM12 as my Droid is having issues with receiving calls.

i noticed you changed the OP but you may wanna be a little more specific (not that it matters much though) about CM12.1 due to wakelock differences between 12.0 and 12.1
see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60274949&postcount=484
Thanks guys, this makes sense. I'm going to try it now, will post results later.
UPD: It works! Thank you all once again, I'm finally moving to CM12.1
thanks a lot
