Diamond 2 vs HD - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Now we have read about the new diamond 2 specification and seen HD. Which model is best?
I have today HTC Diamond and as soon as I heard that 2 is coming out soon, decided to buy it as soon as its out. But, one day, I read and saw HD in a phone shop, liked it, the size of the display for instance.
What are the advantages and disadvantages in both models??

Here have a comparasion of both: http://www.wmexperts.com/touch-diamond-2-touch-pro-2-vs-touch-hd . personnilly i choose the hd for the big screen (better web surfer) and have a better battery performance... but otherwise diamond 2 is more light and small.. regards

On of the bigger advantages of the HD is the earphone jack. If you want to use it for mediaplaying, this is a clear advantage.
Finally otherwise they are pretty much the same. I would recommend to really choose what is more important to you: the larger screen (same resolution though!) or the smaller size of the phone.

Can we get an HTC Touch HD forum now that it's official?

How about THIS!
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=64790
The full specs and photos and info. ALL official on HTC's website!
I'm trying to decide whether to cancel my Diamond order or hope to get enough money from selling it to pay for the Touch HD. Because, I'm assuming it will come to Sprint like all the rest of HTCs flagship phones have. Prolly around March I am guessing.
PS. Mods we need a HTC Touch HD forum now please.
get the diamond. if you like the reviews for the hd, sell the diamond.
but.. i dont think youll be missing much sticking with the diamond tbh.
enjoy your new htc!
Only:
a 1 inch bigger screen at a higher res
a 3.5mm headphone jack (finally)
stereo speakers
thinner
double the rom
a microSD slot (wtf did they not have that on the Diamond?)
a way better camera
So what would I be missing by sticking with the HD?
hi
i really hope we can use the HD roms on the diamond, also i kinda hate htc now, for releasing so many nice phones, that i can only have one, and not all of them ; ;

Amen dude.
While I like the spec of the HD, I also like the compactness of Diamond which I am getting very used to now. So I think I will stay with Diamond for now.
Well reports are coming it that it maybe here as soon as November! see www.coolsmartphone.com for info.
I do hate HTC for doing this, I personally would of waited until the Touch HD was released, I love the Diamond, but id rather have the capacity to upgrade the memory, have the larger screen and better camera.
I always used to wait until my contract was up before going for a new phone, satisfying my desire for new phones by purchasing them off ebay. Now, thanks to HTC, im even considering buying the Touch HD sim free from Devicewire or Expansys. Thats me skint for christmas! hehe!
I've got to get this phone. I love my Diamond, but that thing is even more Diamond than the Diamond is.
actually i'm quite curious about the pricing of the device. althought it will be a lot heavier (146 grams compared to the 110 of the diamond), if all specs look well i just might be tempted to switch.
from the photos i like the touch hd more simply cause of the screen, although they've still kept it a basic 65k color with a higher resolution. my biggest question is whether it will still incorporate a mass storage device of it's own to which the micro sd card is added

No mass storage. Specs are already out. But Micro SDs are getting cheaper and cheaper....
I must have this. I guess the wife gets an early upgrade....she loves getting my old phones after I have tweaked them to the max..... thank goodness for that!
You can get an 8GB microSD for only ~$25. I posted a link in one of the forums. Or there are 16GB microSDs available for around ~$60-$70.
stock expected but no pricing yet? I smell BS......
Does anyone know if HD will use capacitive touch screen?

It will arrive the 10th November !!!

Diamond to Blackstone (Touch HD)...any takers??

Well the release of the Touch HD is imminent for the first week of November....is there anyone out there thinking of making the transition??
I love my Diamond, but the attraction of bigger battery, bigger screen, micro SD card, etc makes this device pretty attractive...especially since all else is like for like
Not sure what I'm talking about, then check here....(language not english...but you get it )

Love the diamond, but definitely moving to the Touch HD!
OK, just got a nice comparison video to the Diamond
hmmmm very sexy now as not much bigger dimensionally, but what a nice screen and appears quite "quick" when operating...
http://www.mobiletechaddicts.com/2008/10/14/htc-touch-hd-video-eye-candy/
Looks sexy, but i feel like they did not adapt a single byte of TouchFlo to the bigger screen capacity.
Check the home screem for instance, still just the Call history and tzhe calendar there PLUS some extra black space below... Thats ridicilous.
But I hope someone can extract that "stock" app :O:O wowooo
As long as there is no US 3G on it, i won't be getting it. I will probably get the Touch Pro when it's released on at&t. Also, the spec is all the same except a slightly bigger ram, and screen, so i'm probably not gonna waste my money on it, if i didnt get the touch pro and wait for the next update.
na i'll stick to the diamond till winmob7 devices are are comming.
also i think the advantage of the bigger akku will be reduced to the larger screen.

Agreed... and to be honest, the HD looks like a brick to me... personal opinion before I start another debate!
The Diamond is sleek and stylish...the HD looks like an iphone almost in its dimensional view and to be honest, looks bigger / thicker
In my opinion, the diamond is the perfect size/weight and thickness a phone should have. Bear in mind, I work in phone repairs so I see hundreds of models every week, some in prototype versions too and so far, the diamond is one of the most advanced yet non-intrusive in my pocket phone.
As I say, personal opinion.
You cant help to want the HD because it is an awesome device! I think we all agree on that. Specs are just perfect. If I ever had a chance I would get one (but keeping my Diamond)
But....
Diamonds have been noted by the sleeknessss and nice looks.
Yet there is no sacrifice in features. Diamond users are pretty well rounded easily above most other phones features plus the perfect size.
Greetings to all.
I played a little with a touch HD.... let be clear : the design, screen are great !!!!! I don't know about the battery life.. bugs of the TF3D and others.... but the look and feel are great !!! I Love this phone !

I have to agree to the great looks and specs of the device.
I have Diamond and looking at Touch HD I noticed 2 things:
1. It is big, big, bigger than SE P1i I have (I got Diamond as I wanted something smaller than P1 after a year of having it)
2. The hardware buttons are so near the bottom that it will be hard to use them at all. 20hand operation is inevitable, which makes it much more difficult to use in the street.

HD or Diamond2?

Help me decide! I like the fact that the HD has a larger screen, comes with 8gb card, and separate 3.5 headphone connection but concerned about the reports of skipping during music and video playback. However, the Diamond2 is less expensive.
Any opinions?
The processor on the HD is the same as that of the Diamond 2, so video problems may remain the same. Personally, I think that the HD is a bit big, the TD2 is a cool size and looks really cool. Since they are almost the same, go with the TD2 as you said it is cheaper.
the CPU is not the same.... HD has MSM7201A and TD2 has MSM7200A.
MSM7201A and MSM7200A, the former is newer but they are the same

Well, in fact MSM7200A is better: The MSM7201A is exactly the same, except for video recording, where it is crippled to prevent recording [email protected], which MSM7200A can do but it infringes some patents from a US company. Qualcomm created the MSM7201A from the MSM7200A just to avoid those patents, by removing/disabling the part of the chip infringing the patent and replacing it by something patent free (and less performant), so that devices using MSM7201A can be sold in the US without fear of legal actions.

Aside from 3G and Vid Recording differences, they are the same, clock speed, etc.
I had been using HTC HD for almost 4mths plus and now just got my Diamond 2, for me i find both is about the same only thing different is the size is smaller. that all depend on yourself i prefer a smaller one easy to keep inside pocket so that's why i chose to get D2.
Both is a great PDA i would say, fuction is the same and best things is they don't give you problem.
Anyway i still keeping my HTC HD with me if i decide to change back..
Sorry for the DP...... If someone could delet this one. My connection got screwy on me.

I was having this exact same dilema the othere day. LOL. I have since decided that a bigger screen and 8GB memory card is not a good enough reason to get the HD for me.
The TD2 will be OEM upgradable to WM6.5..... but who cares with XDA.... already running a 6.5rom on my Elfin. It's smaller than the HD and the screen is HUGE for it's size. Nearly as big as the Iphone but in a way smaller device. Also I have a 16GB memory card.... beats anything offered with most phones.... Also the TD2 is Newer and Cheaper.... So I decided to go with the TD2.
3.5mm Jack would be nice but im not a HUGE music fan. Most of my music listening is done in the car, at work, sometimes at home. But mostly in the car. you can always buy a nice stereo bluetooth headset.... NO WIRES..... ????
I had the HD and sold it to buy the TD2 . Best move I ever made . The HD is a cool device but it's size is just not for me .

Buy a diamond ?

Hey all.
Today, you would be a diamond 1 or HD/Diamond 2 ?
Iv'e heared diamond 1 is slow, and her touch sceen is crap.
Well, depends on how you look at it. Of course the phone can be slow and such, but with minor tweaks to TF3D and to the registry, you can get the phone real smooth. Out of all those you said, I would pick HD because it got a 3,5mm jack and a bigger screen
Dont get a Diamond 1. You'll be investing un old(er) tech. I would get a Diamond 2 or TP2. I'm using a BB Bold at the moment which i prefere to the Diamond.. I'm sticking with RIM untill WinMo 7 comes out natively on devices.
If the previews of the Zune HD are anything to go by then Win Mo 7 will be worth the wait and i'll be ditching RIM in a heartbeat as they just dont have the same quality of software base available possibly due to restrictions of what memory is available to programs whilst there running. But, what they do well is the basics you'd expect of a communications device. Email, phone calls, even the mp3 player is much better sound quality than on my old Diamond
The efforts of the ROM cookers on this forum is excellent and Im sure MS are taking on board comments from web sites like this but a chef is only as good as his ingredients and the ROMs being leaked at the moment are full of bugs.
This is obviously just my own opinion on the subject though
i prefere the diamond 1 its cheaper , cooler , got the look , have a lot of developers here , alot of ROMS , does not have any manufacture problems like the diamond 2 or the pro 2
Aqrab, what manufactues problem are you talking about??
Artieq, iv'e didnt meant about the screen size. iv'e heared its a fingerprint nightmare...and also it have poor battery life.
I can get diamond 1 in 225$, and diamond2/HD in 480- 500$
spikeuk76, what are you talking about ?

What TP2 is ?
BB bold?
RIM?
WINMO 7 ?
Well, now i need to decide between the diamond 2 to the HD. it's a very hard decision

Yeah, that also were the main reasons for me to buy a D1.
D2 has a bigger screen, more RAM, better Cam, microSD card slot and a battery with more capacity. If you need one of these and are willing to invest much more than the D2 is your device.
In my opinion the D1 runs very smooth even with demanding apps. Remember also, D2 has the same chipset.

Hello
I'm gonna make alot of skype calls (wifi) with the device
The device can't replace music player like COWON D2+
Same chipset? what? and the hd have the same also ?
It's not that i need to add alot of money to buy the hd/diamond 2.
I'm afraid the diamond 1 will be slow, fingerprint nightmare, and bad battery.
I think the best for me will be hd/diamond 2.
Well, you are right about the battery life and fingerprints, but the phone itself IS SMOOTH AS SILK (for me).
Well diamond1 is in different level compared to D2 & HD because is a lot cheaper and have less ram and rom.
So between thous two I would go for diamond 2, because it's little smaller than HD, and other specks are the same, except the HD has 3.5 jack & bigger screen.
So it's depends what you like - need, bigger screen 3.5 jack, get HD, I like a little smaller device, that could comfortably fit in my pocket, so I would get D2!
Yeah, its alot cheaper, i can get diamond 1 in 225$, and diamond2/HD in 480- 500$.
But diamond 1 has few bad things that has been fixed in hd and d2, don't you think so?
Anyway, i don't know if i need a big screen. i will mostly use it to make fring (skype) calls, and in 4-6months, i will use the software teamviewer that will be released.
I will not use the device for playing music, because the cowon d2 from what iv'e heared, have better sounds quality.

Wifi is an absolute battery drainer. D2 has indeed 200mAh more capacity but also a larger screen. You might wanna go with the D1 HTC 1340mAh "extended battery". Although that one requires another back cover which makes the devices thicker.

HD also features the Qualcomm chipset.
From what I and many others can say the D1 runs perfectly smooth - but yes, it is a fingerprint magnet (as will be D2/HD) and its battery is small. I bought a second one but only for heavy usage (eg navigation on the bike). Otherwise it offers me a reasonable lifetime even when listening to music for hrs.
Hey
lol why buy other device when you can just buy an HD/diamond 2
I think i will go over the diamond 2... i will see it in a store and then decide.
thank you.
Hello all,
I have a lot of Problems with this VPA. Now it makes all, but not what I want. After a start it runs fine, but after a Hour it makes silly things.
I will now try a lite Rom or anything else.
Thanks a lot to all hard Workers on custom Roms
today i sold my diamond. thx foe god...i just wanna thx to all xda members who helped me modding and ypgrading..but after i saw the iphone, tired that famous multi touch...i just sicked and tired of changin roms, etc...
hope one day when winmo will have multi touch, changable rongtones and such litle things i will back to htc devices...
cheers...
Can't comment on multi-touch, but pretty sure every Windows mobile device I've had since my first Magician has supported changing ringtones, in fact I actually found the adding of ringtones to be more hassle on the iPhone than it ever was on any of my Win devices. (I recently sold my iPhone 3G in favour of getting a new Windows Mobile device)
Just been offered the Diamond for free on a £20/month contract, so seriously considering going for that unless something else is available

HTC HD7 vs. Samsung Omnia 7

*** Update ***
I have changed the original subject because I have made up mind and made my decision based on my conclusions. Anyway, that decision it’s not that important and I don’t want to affect the discussion here.
Thank you all.

Should I replace my HTC HD7 pre-order with Samsung Omnia 7? Help needed fast ...
I need your help fast!
I know this is little "unethical" but after so many "copy-paste" reviews I must turn for your help.
Please give me a reason NOT to replace my HTC HD7 pre-order with Samsung Omnia 7.
I pre-ordered HD7 but I am slowly getting disappointed reading all the reviews.
Why?
HTC HD7 vs Samsung Omina7 shoot out, KraFT`s style ....
- HTC HD7 only Class2 SD card vs. Samsung Omnia 7 - 8GB NAND Flash memory (8GB is enough for me )
- HTC HD7 SD card class 2 / 8gb is not expandable. Its only hackable.
- HTC HD7 Plastic cover vs. Samsung Omnia 7 - almost full metal. (scroll to 2m:50sec)
- HTC HD7 has old TFT LCD ( not even SUPER TFT) vs . Omnia 7 latest Super-AMOLED LCD TFT.
- HTC HD7 11.2mm vs Samsung Omnia 7 10.99 mm;
- Display size , HTC HD7-4.3 vs Omnia7 - 4.0 (0.3 difference)
- Weight 162g vs 138g
- HD7 Crappy pink photo and video vs Omnia 7 Check yourself.
- HTC HD7 Battery 1200 vs Omnia 7 1500 .
- HTC HD7 Quiet and Mono (not stereo) vs. 20% louder Omnia 7
- For S. Omnia7 , Gorilla protection is very much possible but cant find a clear confirmation.
could always replace the crappy class 2 micro sd for a higher speed and capacity, but it seems like you want someone to blame if you dont like the phone you choose.
The only thing the HD7 has over the Omnia is the larger screen. And the possibility to remove memory and add more, but you stated you don't need it. IMO Omnia is the better pick.

I think for most people in the long run (regardless of whether they agree at this point in time) the decision will come down to "can you survive with 8GB space?"
The omnia 7 is maxed out at 8GB currently (16GB still yet to be seen) and once you take into account the WP7 OS and apps, you will be left with around 6GB space.
Is that enough for what you'd like to do with the phone?
Personally I won't be using my Omnia 7 as a mp3 player but if you intend on using it as your primary music player then I would STRONGLY recommend the HD7 over the Omnia 7
You can easily upgrade the HD7 to 32GB with a higher class microSD card to improve the speed..
If, like me, you don't mind carrying only a few favourite albums and a few favourite videos and no more then go for the Omnia 7.
If you anticipate that you will use more than 6GB then get the HD7.

This... The main reason im getting the HD7 is because I can put a 32 gig card out of my HD into it
Why do you need a excuse? With the things you've stated, its obvious that you want the omnia... just get it
Yes, I need like 2 gigs max for all my multimedia needs. ( 10 or 20 mp3 albums max)
I have never ever watched any movies on mu mobile. Just few South Park`s and that’s all…
I do a lots of browsing, remote desktop, business applications.
I had in the past HTC diamond 1 and now Diamond 2.
HTC D1 had 4GB onboard while HTC D2 had sd card. (Class4)
The difference is huge.
I do know how to handle a screwdriver but why should I do that in the first place.
I did that with all my HTC`s but with a good reason…
Anyway, what about the total experience.
Why Dolby ? With 1200 battery? Or dual flash with that crappy picture?
And it’s the same problem that is going on for years.
Thin plastic for protection?
The video for SD card replacement shows how fragile this phone is.
One angular drop and …
I think that this time HTC failed on the big picture.
Thank you for your feedback I really appreciate it.
if you do a lot of web browsing then the HD7 will have better battery life. SAMOLED is only better for battery consumption if the screen is darker.. web pages tend to be white.
but if you think that the omnia 7 feels better and really dislike the HD7 and you don't need ample space, get the omnia 7. but have you held the HD7? it feels nice man! very good build quality!
the omnia 7 is really popular and it's showing as out of stock at quite a few places so good luck finding one
Thanks for the tip man.
I think that’s why they have a stronger battery that will do for 18 hours without any problems.
Anyway, the feel is not what I am worried about. I am sure that is ok.
Plus, Omnia is thinner, lighter ( almost 20%!) plus made from metal.
It’s the overall build quality that worries me a lot..
Anyone who dissembled HTC knows what I am talking about. Look at that video.
That is not industrial engineering.
Everything is cheap on that phone. I can’t recognize HTC build quality.
Yes, I have preordered on HD7 @ expansys ( for eastern europe countries.)
They do have omia7 on stock.
Question:
Does anyone knows if Omnia 7 screen is with “gorilla” protection? (100% sure?)
I also was pretty much 100% sure I would never be able to survive with 8GB of storage, I needed 32GB ideally and 16GB at a stretch. Because of this I decided to get the HD7 over the Omnia 7, After just over a week of owning it I returned it and got a Omnia 7 instead. I still have tones of space left too, I set all my photos to auto-upload and I subscribe to Zune Pass so can stream all the music OTA, works very well.

<<this... I just made the point that performance could be improved with some DIY, you've made you mind up that the Samsung is a better fit for you, go buy one.
But as per a previous thread you started there currently is no VNC client, so don't expect to be doing remote desktop on either handset for a while.
As to the memory ok the trophy took 4 seconds longer to boot (all my HTC phones have always taken an age to boot) and 7 seconds to load the game, but is it really that bad? A faster card would improve app loading but I doubt very much that the OS loading would improve as that's in nand or at least I'd assume else you wouldn't be able to boot the handset with a new card.
Sorry about my initial response, but it still feels like you are here to praise up the Omnia7 while trolling the HD7.

No no, I returned the HD7 because the build quality was woefully lacking, imo there was no way that thing would last for 18 months. I don't know about the whole Gorilla screen but I'm not going to start scratching it to find out
Battery life is better, but not by a massive amount, I would estimate probably a day and a half of heavy use.
Other things I have noticed, games and apps load a hell of a lot faster, the only advantage my HD7 had to my Omnia 7 was the double storage, the Omnia is much much better built, has a far better screen and is faster too.

sorry, the build quality on the HD7 is excellent
the screen is glass
the band round it is smart and makes it feel sturdy
the back is soft and lovely to hold and pretty firm. A new battery back can be bought from HTC in any event.
in terms of the speed, I simply don't believe you. I think some reverse justification is going on here. My HD7 is the fastest phone I have ever used

Thank you for your feedback I really appreciate it.

what plastic on the hd7. I played with one yesterday for about 30minutes, it's a solid metal feeling phone.

The back is made of soft touch plastic, something I prefer over shiny metal. And the phone build quality is excellent. It feels as strong as Iphone 4, which also means you don't want to drop the phone because the screen is also of glass.

When I said it is faster I meant at loading apps and games, it is much faster.
And as for the build quality I guess its slightly subjective, but I would say if you have only had it for a couple days wait till you have had it for over a week. The hardware buttons on my one were truly awful, the have no click to them and I would press the camera and volume buttons all the time without even realising.
The back plastic was marked after 1 week by the case I was sold with it from the O2 store, and the black plastic back is not as sturdy as the full metal back of my Omnia 7.

I don't notice any difference in the buttons between this and other HTC phones to be honest.
I use an HTC case and its fine. A bad case can mark any phone.
A metal back will be more sturdy, sure, but I have no complaints about the HTC HT7 one
