Help me decide! I like the fact that the HD has a larger screen, comes with 8gb card, and separate 3.5 headphone connection but concerned about the reports of skipping during music and video playback. However, the Diamond2 is less expensive.
Any opinions?
The processor on the HD is the same as that of the Diamond 2, so video problems may remain the same. Personally, I think that the HD is a bit big, the TD2 is a cool size and looks really cool. Since they are almost the same, go with the TD2 as you said it is cheaper.
the CPU is not the same.... HD has MSM7201A and TD2 has MSM7200A.
MSM7201A and MSM7200A, the former is newer but they are the same

Well, in fact MSM7200A is better: The MSM7201A is exactly the same, except for video recording, where it is crippled to prevent recording [email protected], which MSM7200A can do but it infringes some patents from a US company. Qualcomm created the MSM7201A from the MSM7200A just to avoid those patents, by removing/disabling the part of the chip infringing the patent and replacing it by something patent free (and less performant), so that devices using MSM7201A can be sold in the US without fear of legal actions.

Aside from 3G and Vid Recording differences, they are the same, clock speed, etc.
I had been using HTC HD for almost 4mths plus and now just got my Diamond 2, for me i find both is about the same only thing different is the size is smaller. that all depend on yourself i prefer a smaller one easy to keep inside pocket so that's why i chose to get D2.
Both is a great PDA i would say, fuction is the same and best things is they don't give you problem.
Anyway i still keeping my HTC HD with me if i decide to change back..
Sorry for the DP...... If someone could delet this one. My connection got screwy on me.

I was having this exact same dilema the othere day. LOL. I have since decided that a bigger screen and 8GB memory card is not a good enough reason to get the HD for me.
The TD2 will be OEM upgradable to WM6.5..... but who cares with XDA.... already running a 6.5rom on my Elfin. It's smaller than the HD and the screen is HUGE for it's size. Nearly as big as the Iphone but in a way smaller device. Also I have a 16GB memory card.... beats anything offered with most phones.... Also the TD2 is Newer and Cheaper.... So I decided to go with the TD2.
3.5mm Jack would be nice but im not a HUGE music fan. Most of my music listening is done in the car, at work, sometimes at home. But mostly in the car. you can always buy a nice stereo bluetooth headset.... NO WIRES..... ????
I had the HD and sold it to buy the TD2 . Best move I ever made . The HD is a cool device but it's size is just not for me .

I agree completely, the TD2 feels much better in the hand.

The current best, other then the BA, imho is the HTC Hermes (among other names) which is the lastest phone out in the series, it's not as tall or wide as the BA though, and seems slightly thicker. It has fairly good camera and 3G on it though.
If you want to wait a few months, the HTC Muse is surpose to be coming out, but so far the specs seem simular as the Hermes but featuring a slightly more trendy keypad.
Oh, and both devices have there own topics on xda-developers ;-)
Ifyou can wait until at least february, get XDA Flame.
VGA screen, about the size of a Blue Angel, 520MHz Intel processor, GoForce 5500 video coporcessor, h.264 hardware accelerated video, Video output (!!!) Bluetooth, WiFi b/g, 2MP camera + from vga camera for video calls, 2GB (yes, you read it right!) storage, microSD slot, 128MB RAM (or 64MB, reports are conflicting).
It has EVERYTHING but a GPS...
XDA Flame: "powered by NVIDIA's GoForce 5500 GPU"
Wow. Bit big tho:
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2006/11/22/o2_xda_flame_shows_itself
It is said that GoForce 5500 graphics can be as good as, or better than PSP. Not counting that the PSP has 'only' 480 x 272 pixels, and is not a phone or a general purpose PDA...
Thanks guys,
I think I read about that one in one of the PC mags. I can wait until February no problem.

O2, looks like at launch it will only be available in Asia, but you know... ebay is your friend. Just re-check the operating frequencies at launch to be sure it's compatible.
One thing I would like to see changed is to have it using Crossbow instead of plain WM5.
Is the XDA Flame available yet?

I am sorry if this has been asked before, and to be honest I have not searched this forum either
Anyway, my question is this:
What is your opinion to the new HTC Touch Pro, is it worth the upgrade?
I read that it has 288 MB of RAM!
But I did hovever not find any information about if it has the proper drivers installed or not.
So please give me your opinios, should I upgrade or not?
Whats good about it and whats not so good compared to tytn II?
Thanks in advance!
Please comment!
Please everyone, I would very much welcome some comments and opinions on this, not just voting!
I would like to know why you are voting yes or no!
The reason I am asking this is becouse I am considering selling my tytn II to be able to by the Touch pro!
But I really need your opinions so I dont make a huge misstake here!
Thanks!
I would get one if it wasnt for the price!
has a VGA screen... slightly better camera... slightly better Processor... generally, not that much better, but slightly
One major downside of the diamond series is the glossy exterior. Fingersprints all over the thing. My Kaiser doesnt have that at all. So it has more RAM, but do you really use the current Kaisers amount? No way, i always have more then enough free. It's a slight upgrade compared to Kaiser, but is it worth the wait and/or money.
I think i will not stay with HTC anymore.... maybe get a SE X1
From what I have seen it does look like a good phone but TBH we will have to wait and see. I would say yes get it, but wait a little while to see what others think of it
If it has the same driver 'issues' as the TyTn II then i'd say no!
I say go for it.
1) Touch Pro is essentially the HTC Diamond with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard
2) Most of the HTC Diamond applications can be found on this or other forums
1+2 = not really worth the upgrade, if you are happy with the TYTN 2 processor
Don't know about the drivers, & i would hate to be cheated again....
Ok, these are very good arguments so I think I will wait for a while to see if it has the driver or not!
I was hoping that it was official already, and that people knew about the driver!
Anyway, does anyone know if it has tv-out or not? It is somewhat important for me to have that!

There wont be driver issues..it will come with built-in hardware acceleration via an ATi chip like the X1. The tytn II has no hardware acceleration what so ever, plus the missing drivers.
Now as to which to get X1 or Touch Pro is a tough choice.
I am for sure upgrading to the Touch Pro or X1 when they come out in September for the US versions.
Pros:
Lets face it: VGA screen(sharp crisp images/text/video), another 128Mhz faster, another 160mb system ram, true 3d hardware acceleration via Ati chipset, touchscreen 3D, 5 row keyboard, a flush screen, camera flash.
How can you say no to that?

Like somebody said alrdy, the touch pro is just the htc diamond with a slide out keyboard...i personally dont think the diamond is as good at certain tasks like the kaiser is, like possible business/exchange email. On the multimedia standpoint all the kaiser needs is for the drivers to be released for full potential of video playback for the camera video recording and some other applications to be used to full potential but other then that, viewng of avi's(dvds) and youtube seem crystal clear or as good as a 2.8" screen can get. Both will have similar ati graphics cards or qualcomm chipsets, the pro supposedly will have hardware acceleration but will see(some specs are rumos dont belive everthing you read). Also the Kaier is 400mhz i mean that is pretty fast for a phone, try to remember that ad for the pro to have another 100mhz of course it will be faster but how much of a diference will that feel like when ur using the phone. Same Qualcomm processor but probably the MS7500... so im guessing, as for the extra 128megs of ram...i barely use 20-30 megs of a total of 125 on the kaiser, with my 4g micro sd card, i dont put any apps on the phone period so i dont think extra ram in a phone is that great of an eye turner. The main plus i see with the diamond pro is the VGA and tv out tuner, two things the kaiser doesnt have but its a matter of opinion if ur gonna be watching tv on a 2.8" phone...avi's are my limit and thats during spare time at work and same with youtube. I dunno...i say if the drivers for the kaiser come out by the time the pro comes out, an upgrade would have to be seriously convincing because with the video drivers, the kaiser will feel like a brand new phone again. I had no actual issues with the video playback and didnt see what all the hoopla was about with the lawsuit action and thread upon thread about the drivers until i went to a Barrack Obama rally and tried recording a video of his speech and noticed my recording looked like i was in the matrix going slomo dodging bullets like neo basically my video recording playback was like i had a nokia instead of the flagship Tilt, I then realized my old hermes used to record crystal clear on a 2 megapixel camera but now my kaiser felt handicaped in the camera department. Thats my two cents on my Kaiser, so if the pro has these playback issues, an upgrade will be a waste of money because both phones seem similar and HTC better improve on their customer awareness before they keep coming out with high end phones. I see very few advatages in the pro for me to drop another 400 plus broohaha's on it or even have to extend my contract for a milion years to upgrade to it.
How is Touch Pro and HTC Diamond the same phone?

Ok first of all the Touch pro is going to have a 528 MHz processor which I think is a huge difference from the 400 MHz we have now!
Second it has alot more RAM, 288 MB! I think this device will be lightning fast!
I dont see how you can say that HTC Diamond and HTC Touch Pro is almost the same phone? If you check out the specs you will clearly see a difference!
HTC Diamond Specs:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=46286
HTC Touch Pro Specs:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=49524
Also Diamond does NOT have tv-out what I can see! It lacks memory card slot and has built in 4 GB instead!
The only problem I can think of is if it indeed lacks proper drivers!
If this is not the issue anymore, then I will certainly go and buy it!
I would also like to know it it is possible to recieve TMC information now when it is equiped with an RDS Radio?
im not saying its a similar phone i just think that the upgrade in speed and ram isnt going to thrill a whole lot of kaiser people in shelling out the dough and extending contracts when the kaiser is a very efficient and solid phone bro....just that the second those drivers get droped it will be like ownning a brand new phone, that diamond is going to hit the back burner and be purchased by people who just wanna have the latest and greatest. The kaiser has alrdy been upgraded too by hermes, wizard, mda, treo and other older htc phone people because of its flagship credentials and solid specifications (built in GPS being one of them) for all us kaiser people to upgrade now to the next latest and greatest will take alot, just my opinion. And if this pro's video playback issues are the same why would anybody upgrade. I really think the only people upgrading to it if the kaisers drivers come out are people just wanting to say they have the newest htc phone. Also Branko for the pro to not have a memory card slot and only be able to store 4 gigs is deffinetly a turn off....i have a 4 gig in my kaser right now and i usually have a minimum of 3 to 4 900 meg avi movies in my tilt at a time with another 4-5 album mp3's and not including my word and pdf documents for school, so i like the fact that i can swap out my 4gig and put my other 2 gig micro sd card in when i need to. I mean the Kaiser is expandable to 32gigs...doesnt that option make the kaiser the flagship phone that it is? i dunno but the pro doesnt tickle my pimple but i guess it does yours!

I do get your point, but the fact is that the HTC Touch Pro does have an sd card slot just like the Tytn II! It´s the Diamond that has the 4 GB Built in and no sd card slot!
So you can say that HTC Touch pro is everything that Tytn II is now and much more
However I do agree with you that if it does not have the drivers in place it wont really matter!
Can someone please verify?
Can someone please verify that the HTC Touch Pro wont have the same driver issue that Tytn II has?
Please this is of great importance for me to decide if I will buy it or not!

I'm trying to decide whether to cancel my Diamond order or hope to get enough money from selling it to pay for the Touch HD. Because, I'm assuming it will come to Sprint like all the rest of HTCs flagship phones have. Prolly around March I am guessing.
PS. Mods we need a HTC Touch HD forum now please.
get the diamond. if you like the reviews for the hd, sell the diamond.
but.. i dont think youll be missing much sticking with the diamond tbh.
enjoy your new htc!
Only:
a 1 inch bigger screen at a higher res
a 3.5mm headphone jack (finally)
stereo speakers
thinner
double the rom
a microSD slot (wtf did they not have that on the Diamond?)
a way better camera
So what would I be missing by sticking with the HD?
hi
i really hope we can use the HD roms on the diamond, also i kinda hate htc now, for releasing so many nice phones, that i can only have one, and not all of them ; ;

Amen dude.
While I like the spec of the HD, I also like the compactness of Diamond which I am getting very used to now. So I think I will stay with Diamond for now.
Well reports are coming it that it maybe here as soon as November! see www.coolsmartphone.com for info.
I do hate HTC for doing this, I personally would of waited until the Touch HD was released, I love the Diamond, but id rather have the capacity to upgrade the memory, have the larger screen and better camera.
I always used to wait until my contract was up before going for a new phone, satisfying my desire for new phones by purchasing them off ebay. Now, thanks to HTC, im even considering buying the Touch HD sim free from Devicewire or Expansys. Thats me skint for christmas! hehe!
I've got to get this phone. I love my Diamond, but that thing is even more Diamond than the Diamond is.
actually i'm quite curious about the pricing of the device. althought it will be a lot heavier (146 grams compared to the 110 of the diamond), if all specs look well i just might be tempted to switch.
from the photos i like the touch hd more simply cause of the screen, although they've still kept it a basic 65k color with a higher resolution. my biggest question is whether it will still incorporate a mass storage device of it's own to which the micro sd card is added

Hey all.
Today, you would be a diamond 1 or HD/Diamond 2 ?
Iv'e heared diamond 1 is slow, and her touch sceen is crap.
Well, depends on how you look at it. Of course the phone can be slow and such, but with minor tweaks to TF3D and to the registry, you can get the phone real smooth. Out of all those you said, I would pick HD because it got a 3,5mm jack and a bigger screen
Dont get a Diamond 1. You'll be investing un old(er) tech. I would get a Diamond 2 or TP2. I'm using a BB Bold at the moment which i prefere to the Diamond.. I'm sticking with RIM untill WinMo 7 comes out natively on devices.
If the previews of the Zune HD are anything to go by then Win Mo 7 will be worth the wait and i'll be ditching RIM in a heartbeat as they just dont have the same quality of software base available possibly due to restrictions of what memory is available to programs whilst there running. But, what they do well is the basics you'd expect of a communications device. Email, phone calls, even the mp3 player is much better sound quality than on my old Diamond
The efforts of the ROM cookers on this forum is excellent and Im sure MS are taking on board comments from web sites like this but a chef is only as good as his ingredients and the ROMs being leaked at the moment are full of bugs.
This is obviously just my own opinion on the subject though
i prefere the diamond 1 its cheaper , cooler , got the look , have a lot of developers here , alot of ROMS , does not have any manufacture problems like the diamond 2 or the pro 2
Aqrab, what manufactues problem are you talking about??
Artieq, iv'e didnt meant about the screen size. iv'e heared its a fingerprint nightmare...and also it have poor battery life.
I can get diamond 1 in 225$, and diamond2/HD in 480- 500$
spikeuk76, what are you talking about ?

What TP2 is ?
BB bold?
RIM?
WINMO 7 ?
Well, now i need to decide between the diamond 2 to the HD. it's a very hard decision

Yeah, that also were the main reasons for me to buy a D1.
D2 has a bigger screen, more RAM, better Cam, microSD card slot and a battery with more capacity. If you need one of these and are willing to invest much more than the D2 is your device.
In my opinion the D1 runs very smooth even with demanding apps. Remember also, D2 has the same chipset.

Hello
I'm gonna make alot of skype calls (wifi) with the device
The device can't replace music player like COWON D2+
Same chipset? what? and the hd have the same also ?
It's not that i need to add alot of money to buy the hd/diamond 2.
I'm afraid the diamond 1 will be slow, fingerprint nightmare, and bad battery.
I think the best for me will be hd/diamond 2.
Well, you are right about the battery life and fingerprints, but the phone itself IS SMOOTH AS SILK (for me).
Well diamond1 is in different level compared to D2 & HD because is a lot cheaper and have less ram and rom.
So between thous two I would go for diamond 2, because it's little smaller than HD, and other specks are the same, except the HD has 3.5 jack & bigger screen.
So it's depends what you like - need, bigger screen 3.5 jack, get HD, I like a little smaller device, that could comfortably fit in my pocket, so I would get D2!
Yeah, its alot cheaper, i can get diamond 1 in 225$, and diamond2/HD in 480- 500$.
But diamond 1 has few bad things that has been fixed in hd and d2, don't you think so?
Anyway, i don't know if i need a big screen. i will mostly use it to make fring (skype) calls, and in 4-6months, i will use the software teamviewer that will be released.
I will not use the device for playing music, because the cowon d2 from what iv'e heared, have better sounds quality.

Wifi is an absolute battery drainer. D2 has indeed 200mAh more capacity but also a larger screen. You might wanna go with the D1 HTC 1340mAh "extended battery". Although that one requires another back cover which makes the devices thicker.

HD also features the Qualcomm chipset.
From what I and many others can say the D1 runs perfectly smooth - but yes, it is a fingerprint magnet (as will be D2/HD) and its battery is small. I bought a second one but only for heavy usage (eg navigation on the bike). Otherwise it offers me a reasonable lifetime even when listening to music for hrs.
Hey
lol why buy other device when you can just buy an HD/diamond 2
I think i will go over the diamond 2... i will see it in a store and then decide.
thank you.
Hello all,
I have a lot of Problems with this VPA. Now it makes all, but not what I want. After a start it runs fine, but after a Hour it makes silly things.
I will now try a lite Rom or anything else.
Thanks a lot to all hard Workers on custom Roms
today i sold my diamond. thx foe god...i just wanna thx to all xda members who helped me modding and ypgrading..but after i saw the iphone, tired that famous multi touch...i just sicked and tired of changin roms, etc...
hope one day when winmo will have multi touch, changable rongtones and such litle things i will back to htc devices...
cheers...
Can't comment on multi-touch, but pretty sure every Windows mobile device I've had since my first Magician has supported changing ringtones, in fact I actually found the adding of ringtones to be more hassle on the iPhone than it ever was on any of my Win devices. (I recently sold my iPhone 3G in favour of getting a new Windows Mobile device)
Just been offered the Diamond for free on a £20/month contract, so seriously considering going for that unless something else is available
So far, not a 100% fail like the last one imo
Some good features. But Im still pissed at the way Jobs is making out like he invented it all. E.g. 720P video...
Boring... its the same thing. They need one with a bigger screen.

+1.
all phones seem small compared to my HD2
erm.. hardware is good
finally they have added multi-tasking phew
but i hate the interface because if you have loads of apps you have to scroll through loads of pages just to get to an app they haven't done anything about that.
but over all a better iphone to the last
still could be improved alot!
New screen is nice, but its not AMOLED and the resolution is rather pointless when its still a puny 3.5 inches, i call fail on that. The resolution is a way to get around a scaling problem, not a 'feature' in itself. 720P is also nice, but hardly unique, 5MP cam is adequate. OS 4 is meh and has been since it was announced, so im not tempted away, its still a restricted, limited platform controlled by prudish control freaks. The hardware just doesnt creak quite so much (for the time being). A few months later we will see 720P screens and dual core CPUs on devices that cost less all with a better, more open OS.

Agreed.
Its going to take allot to tempt me away from my HD2 (allot more from apple ) I'd think about the EVO 4g if it was in the UK.
But apple has never done it for me...
Overall better job though
Another useless i...e thread

Here we go again
Agree with all above comments and forthcoming on same line

Above all its just not good enough, it wont be a hardware leader for very long. Yes its faster than any current HTC and the screen is higher res, but 3.5 inches is not good enough its that simple. Id take 800x480 at 4.3 (or 5) over 960x640 at 3.5 inches ANY day. You have to get pretty close to see the pixels on any current WVGA screen, even the 5 inch Dell Streak.
iphone 4...
yawn...
wake me up when it innovates...
who effing cares....
EVO Ftw!!!!!!!!!!

A 5" screen does not a cell phone make, you might as well just call it a tablet pc with phone capabilities. If it can't fit in my pocket then it is useless to me, external cell phone holders are for narcissistic douchbags.
the screen res is one of its high points along with front facing camera but fails with teh small screen and the wifi only videochat.

The Dell streak does fit in a pocket. I have no problems with it at all. Its just like a thinner HD2 really.

I agree completely. It's like, it's not anything special at all anymore, now that I know Jobs is a complete tool and lies to the public ("I don't like Flash because it's not open, but here, check out HTML5 in my closed browser").
Same size and weight basically. They say it's thinner, but why are people clamming for thinner phones? That's going to crack!!!!!
720p video? I doubt the quality of this stands up to true 720p video and I dare someone to prove me wrong. I have 720p video on my Olympus EPL1 and I'm sure it blows that mini camera's quality out of the water.
Front-facing camera? Not only do none of the current US networks support this, but do you really think this will take off? Yeah webcams sure did and are everywhere now. As it is now, people using cell phones in my general vicinity are already complete tools, now video calling near me will make them into 150% douchebags.
YAWN is right
My idea of a perfect phone would be the iPhone 4's hardware with Android as software... Don't hate me for saying this, but Apple products truly look high-end.

I dont hate you for it, i just think you are completely wrong. I hate Apple 'Style'. For me the HD2 is still the best looking device on the market. Its just wonderful to look at, on or off.
256mb of RAM on board a 1Ghz processor? That's like having a Ferrari with a pinto suspension...lol. That and the small screen; Psuedo Hi-Def on a tiny, non-AMOLED screen? I'm just not feeling Apple, never have, and it would take some real innovation to convert me (i.e. never).
Just my 2 cents...

Ive had a phone with >300DPI before, the Nokia N90. It was really nice and looked odd because of the super pixels density, but ultimately a 2.1 inch screen only goes so far. Its the same here. 3.5 is just too small to make the resolution worth it.
