Firmware Update Service
Great ROM - thanks and loved the game - very addictive. I am into speed and hate clogging up the phone with never-to-be used applications.
A couple of things:
1. Calculator application missing? (I get an error message).
2. Firmware updates from SE. I flashed the ROM from my microdisk after converting to Hard SPL. It seems to me that this then makes the phone look to the microdisk for an Img file when you put it in boot mode.
The problem is that because it does this (ie look to the microdisk card) now it will not sync with the PC to take up the new SE firmware update.
Any clues on this issue or a pointer to a relevant post?
Thanks

Yes, you can always install apps manually.
then poo no need in wipeing my settings out i dont really think i need these apps neways but if i did where could i dl them or is there a way to extract them out of the .exe?
After installing this ROM, I can no longer flash to other ROMs. During the ROM flash wizard, and after the phone does the initla reboot to the multicolor screen, the update fails and the installer immediately goes to recovery mode.
Has anyhone else seen this, and is there a fix?

I would try downgrading to the stock T-Mobile 1.08 ROM and then you should be able to upgrade to whatever ROM you want. If you can't even downgrade I'm not sure what you can do.
mskovrinskie, I've tried to Update my ROM, I managed without problems so I guess it's your phone or software causing the problems.
I used the original Qtek 2.17 update.
I personally think this ROM rocks. Ran the Cingular Connection cab from the shipped ROM and not much else. SmartsKey and Omap were already installed along with the other neat things Vilem referenced.
Seems very fast and stable but then again all I run is MS Voice and Adobe Reader as even the newest ClearView is too lacking for my needs. And most cool is that the big button dialer skins seem to work without the wierd graphics, etc I experienced with previous versions.
Just my two cents ...

Perfect Timing!
Hi Faria,
Perfect timing to release this new beta rom just for the weekend. I'll be playing around with this ROM the coming weekend.
If you have some time, can you explain why the installation of this ROM has some manual actions like executing am autorun.exe from the My Documents folder.
I'll keep you informed about my results with this ROM.

Great work. I'll download this rom today and test it.
I'll keep you informed about my results with this ROM and my bluetooth stereo
Just installed the new release. Very cool startup screens. Installation went flawlessly (install rom, run autorun.exe, run operator config). Paired my Plantronics 590 Stereo Headset and I'm now listening to music in strereo! Thanks for resolving this!
Post more as I try it out.
Thanks!!

sure,
due to this rom has the security desabled by default ,for some weird reason this autorun file does not work with comands from the extended rom.
but im trying to get rid of the auto run for good.
i does work if the rom has security enabled ,but then when it finishes installation it turns the rom security on by itself!!!!
i have allredy send this bug to the develpors of the autorun file.they are investigating.
plus i moved the autorun file from the extended rom because some testers could not run it in the last beta.

can I put this ROM to a G3 device ( IPL 2.26 SP 2.26, Molski 30 Mb ROM )

it is safe since the rom has no bootloader integrated.but i dont know if u are able to install.since people with g4 have trouble installing 3.2. roms.
most liklely because is cid locked.
u can unlock cid in a g4 at imeicheck uk or something like that.
nevertheless a would keep an original rom from your carrier for recovery purposes or make an sd backup.

Working more with the ROM....
The operator config doesn't seem to be working for me. I did do the autorun.exe first and then ran it. At the end, it rebooted. I soft-reset and re-ran the operator file (USA_Cingular), and still don't see the definitions in the settings as I did with the last ROM release.
Ideas?

the cab files for your operator are in the first post.
Hi,
Can I install in this rom the Ringo software. In the last one it made wizard crash, only with one hard-reset I solved that problem.
Thanks and great work
Just installed the version
So far so good. Works well. Installation took less than 10 minutes, and only got stuck at 99% for about 2 minutes.
One small thing that looks like a bug is when I try to close the task manager, it won't let me and then I have another task manager in the icons in the bottom of the screen. Is this a real problem or am I using it in the wrong way?
Download, and flash went along perfect. Followed directions exactly. After Extended Rom was installed, and device reset, got the error message "Cannot execute calnot.exe" Then installed my operator settings (US-Cingular) which evidently didnt work correctly - no big deal. After that soft reset, got the error message "cannot execute repllog.exe" I have since soft reset again, with no errors. Off the start, the only thing I see that I dont like is the new clock in the top right. It is cutting the year digit off. Is there a way to just revert back to the standard time? I have alos noticed the task manager quirk as described in the above post.

to remove the clok or date use registry wizard.

Right file?

Hi there! I want to put the LATEST OFFICIAL SW from SE on my X1i. I bought the phone in Switzerland. It would not appear that it is branded in any way. ROM Version says "1.03.939.8" dated "12/21/08", so I suppose that's old. I tried SEUS but it ****s up with the phone identification, displays the screeen for an hour without any changes. Tried multiple times. Now I'm downloading the following: APP_SW_X1i_GENERIC_CH_CDF1215-3301_KOV_R2AA008 to flash it using MicroSD.
Is this going to do what I want? I wish to keep German Language and Swiss Keyboard Layout, as well as default apps (Opera, StreamingMedia, Panels).
Your help is very much appreciated!
Yep, it's the latest ROM for Switzerland.
But you have that on your phone already...

How can you tell? I thought a new SW had been released a few weeks ago... And definitely not in December of last year
BTW I got SEUS to work meanwhile. And it indicated current Version is CH CDF1215-3301. So that would match the ROM i mentioned, but not the R2AA008-Bit. I read a lot about R2A being the new one and R1A the old. So what's with that?
And how am I supposed to determine this Version on my phone without SEUS? I don't see any link to the "ROM-Version 1.03.939.8" I get.
Finally, IF this ROM-Version I downloaded equals the one I am currently running, how can I use it for future updates? The file is .image, so would I rename it to kovsky.nbh and Copy to the MicroSD or do I absolutely need the kitchen? And do I get it right that, with a Hardreset, I am doing exactly the same as with flashing the current ROM? And if I flash a newer ROM (Supposing there will be one in the future), will the Hardreset get me back the old ROM or the new one?

There are only two firmware versions and the first had to be released before the phone was released. So December last year can only be the latest firmware.
But to be sure press START --> EINSTELLUNGEN --> SYSTEM --> GERÄTEINFORMATION --> BENUTZERINFO
There should be the SOFTWAREVERSION R2Axxxx
Oh right... Who would associate Userinformation with ROM Version... Didn't even bother to look at it when I had the device info open. Thanks for the hint! Any answers to the other questions?

A kitchen is needed to cook custom ROMs, but you just want to flash an existing ROM.
You rename the image to kovsimg.nbh, place it on the root of your storage card and boot your phone with the volume down and power button pressed.
Then the bootloader asks you if you want to flash the image.
But this only works with official (signed) images, for custom ROMs you need hardspl first.
And do I get it right that, with a Hardreset, I am doing exactly the same as with flashing the current ROM? And if I flash a newer ROM (Supposing there will be one in the future), will the Hardreset get me back the old ROM or the new one?

Nope, that's totally different things.
With flashing a new ROM you place the ROM into the boot loader and with a hardreset you are setting the phone back to the ROM-origin.
Imagine, you have a computer with Windows XP on it -this is similar to your ROM.
Flashing a new ROM is the same as formatting your computer and installing Windows Vista.
Once you have Vista installed and customized the desktop and your files, a hardreset would be the same as reinstalling Vista so all your personalisation would be gone and the operating system would be fresh once more.
The ROM inside the bootloader stays the same when hardresetting. You can't "hardreset back" to an older ROM, you just can "flash back" to an older ROM.

So how do I know I am owning a signed image? I downloaded it from this forum, from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482 I suppose/hope these are signed?
Why do they use .image Extension and not .nbh straight from the beginning? You sure this will work just by renaming? I don't want to question your statement, never, I just want to be sure I'm doing it right if I just rename the file, put it on the card and start in Bootloadermode. I guess, if the flashing failed, that loader ("SPL" or what it's called) would still work, wouldn't it?

Still it's hard for me to understand, I don't see a direct comparison to PCs here. So when I'm flashing, the phone somehow stores both the "original" state, that is to be used when hardresetting, as a kind of backup, and the state that is going to be used afterwards, where you install your apps and keep your files etc? Or how does that work? What does the device exactly do when I Hardreset?

Yes, these are official images from SonyEricsson. Just put rename it to kovsimg.nbh and put it on the Storage card (everything is explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446070)
If the flashing fails, for whatever reason, the bootloader will still work and you should be able to flash the image again.
But to minimize the possibility of an error, the phone's battery should have at least 50% power and you must be sure that the image download is complete (sometimes downloads just stop somewhere in the middle). So verify the size of the file from rapidshare.

Your phone has three stages of memory:
1. The ROM (Read only memory):
In this stage lies the image
2. The internal memory
The operating system installs itself onto this memory after flashing with a new image and starting up the phone.
You can also write and read from this memory.
3. The storage card (if available)
A ROM-Image is a file that consists of the operating system (WinMo6.1 in our case) and all the application that SE wants you to have on your phone (panels, games, office application and so on).
This file is flashed into the phone's memory, the ROM. You cannot change this ROM or write anything in it except flashing it with another ROM-Image.
You can compare the image with your Windows Vista DVD. The DVD is like the ROM inside the phone -the operating system is compressed on it and the computer can't write onto it, just read.
When you switch on the phone the first time after flashing (the same as the first time you switched it on after you bought the phone), the operating system installs itself from the image onto the phone's internal memory (the same as your Windows Vista-DVD installs the operating system on your harddrive). Once this is done, all the other application that are contained in the image are installed too (e.g. Word, Excel, the Panels, Solitär aso.).
Now everything the phone needs to work is on the internal memory and the ROM is left in freedom but the image is still in it.
Now, if you hardreset your phone, the internal memory will be formatted. Everything on it will be erased. After that the operating system and all the applications are installed out of the ROM image onto the internal memory again as described above. It's like the first time you switched on the phone after you have bought it.
From now on, everytime you hardreset the phone, the image out of the ROM is installed. And it's always the same one to the point when you flash a new image to the ROM.
Thanks a lot for this very in-depth and useful explanation! I think I finally got it Thanks again for all of your help! Now it's all clear to me I'm so happy ThX!
As the full official upgrades (R2) have a radio upgrade, then I'd seriously recommend that you charge to 100% before flashing.
Some people don't seem to think it does anything, but I think it makes the battery calibration better. Doesn't hurt either

Just got an old Tilt/8925, need updates?

hi all, I just got my wife's old tilt. No software or ROMs have been updated on this device at all and I'm curious what updates anyone can recommend that I install.
I did read through the WIKI and it was hard to tell what is the most recent updates available. Nothing is really working incorrectly on the unit, I just want the newest, fastest software/rom etc installed.
is there a windows mobile update that I should install? I saw some references to touchflow 3d working on the tilt, is this worth installing?
I'm starting from square one here and am looking for some general info which is why I posted in this room as opposed to the software or rom rooms. Any info would be great. thanks!
taz
The first thing you need to do is back up your phone. You can sync your or what I would do is use back up your data to your card. DO NOT USE SPRITE BACKUP THAT IS ON YOUR PHONE! I did this and could not get it to restore to my phone. Use PIM Backup. You can get the cab file by doing a search on the software thread.
I just upgrade my rom on my Tilt 8925 last week and I used build 23069 and I really like it so far. Make sure you also download the Jumpspl56,Jumpspl93 and Jumpspl94 file. You will have to add that to your phone first and I used the Jumpspl56 file. I did not have a problem with it.
Read the Wiki it will help so mucn and there is also YouTube videos on it. When looking up the information look up Kaiser. I also used this web site for help.

Good Luck
thanks Biloxigirl! do you know if I can put a new version of windows mobile on the device? I've read that some people have updated to 6.1 but do not want to update to 6.5 because it lacks good support for landscape mode?
taz
It all depends what you want? You can flash any Kaiser ROM after Hard-SPL [Resources] Flashing Your First Kaiser Rom (For Noobs) , there are many 6.1 ROMs to choose from and even though M2D doesn't support landscape well it can be disabled via today settings, not sure what you mean about landscape support on 6.5 as Chome has full lanscape compatability.
Good luck

when reading these steps from the tutorial, am I suposed to pull out the battery while the device is still powered on or should I turn it off first?
1. Copy JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe, JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe and JumpSPL1.94-KAIS.exe to your device memory (NOT STORAGE CARD)
2. Pull out the battery and reinsert it (this step IS important) *DONT turn phone back on yet*

Doesn't matter, the idea is to kill all processes. Either way will achieve the end result.
gotcha, thanks Denco

Questions about changing ROM

The first time is always the hardest.
Recently I've been playing with the registry to try and lower the 'lowest volume' setting for my headset with no success. Apparently I need to change the audiopara file. I'm thinking that changing the ROM may help. So here's a few questions:
1 - If I decide to go back I can download my original ROM from here (Generic Australia R3AA013 Software Update)?
2 - Do you reckon Christians 6.5 ROM is pretty good? Do you recommend changing ROM?
3 - Does each ROM come with it's own registry etc or do they rely on stuff on the phone (does flashing the ROM remove everything?).
Thanks!
.... sorry can't post links. Feel free to recommend a good 6.5 ROM.

1 yes
2 best find out for yourself; the earlier the better
3 yes and no; no, the rom is replaced and most probably rilphone.dll, but radio and spl are normally untouched
cheers
Hey guys. I just got my x1 back from repairs (they fixed the nasty crack for free XD) and wanted to know if I can Hardspl again. When I put the stockspl, the page said that dont bother using this if you are gonna put hardspl back. But I had to for warranty reasons.
Anyway...can i just flash hardspl again?
Thanks in advance

1 - Sweet.
2 - Changing the ROM takes a bit of effort just wanna be sure it's a good move.
3 - Okay - what is the radio and spl?
Cheers.
That Energy ROM looks pretty sweet. May go for that one.
Another Question;
The 'NEW ORIGINAL X1 and X2 ROMS update 3.2.2010' thread lists all the original ROMS (in my case Generic Australia R3AA013 Software Update).
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
So could I restore my X1 to it's original ROM by downloading from the Link above?
Why would you choose to take the time to back-up your ROM if you can just download the original?

1. Yes.
2. Some people flash their phones 2-3 times a day, so it's good to have something to fall back onto where everything is setup the way you want to. That being said, I don't back up my ROM, I just do a clean install every time I reflash.

Cool, thx.
When you do a hard-reset, which I've done recently, that take your phone back to square one. So I guess what I'm trying to work out is if it's necessary to back-up the ROM. Basically I'm being lazy.
I've downloaded two ROMs to try - Christian's ROM and Firestone V6.1.
HELP:!!! my x1i phone not running
lastly , i 've installed a language supporting program , then i restart the x1i but it did not boot again , it just reach to sonyericsson logo and still there .... i've tried hard_spl and all of these stuffs one by one. but when it connect to the device -as i remember the third step- it shows the the current verion: -it does not show any thing here- and the next version , 1.00.x or something like this.
when i clicked the next button i show the progress bar on each of tow (pc and x1i) and then stay on 0% for about 3 min then it show the recovery wizard , some time it said that "lost connection" others nothing but recovery... x1i here still showing the progress bar as 0% , so i remove the battery or soft reset to go into the recovery wizard , then i shows successfull recovery ... but i don't see any respond on the x1i , it's the same status , no boot no ability to update or or ...
when i connect the x1 and go to boot loader(manually known buttons) the Win XP (mine on pc SP2) show new device and good install driver and successfull driver installion on the first time and then just shows the sound of plug in the device or plug out...;
sorry if i said too much here . just i want to make it shown to all.
thanks for all who will mention even "i 'll try to ask for you"
good to be here

I would advice on backing up your personal things: contacts, mail, messages, some settings if you want (like hw keybd layout...)
to back-up a rom is only useful if you change reg settings often and want to have a backup in case of system crash/failure
as you intend to change your rom once in a while a backup of one specific rom doesn't make sense you see? preserve your personal data, that does it
pim, sprite, spb, synch, myphone, ... there are many ways, read about them and decide for yourself
@truthglow did you try with your sd card taken out?

I've my person data sorted. All my contacts are stored in Windows Live - so all I need is the Windows Live app to retrieve my contacts.
I use online sync for my calendars - so no problem there. Don't care if I lose my SMS messages.
I've copied across any pictures.
I store all the .cabs for my favourite apps on my SD card.
I made some changes to the registry to try and adjust the headset volume but to no success.
So probably don't need to pack up my Rom.
I like the look of Spike's X1.5 ROM.

sounds reasonable so far
you can use apps to automatize (to a degree) the restoring of personal settings/apps/progs/data/...
e.g. with user customization (UC) or sashimi
that's especially useful when often flashing an update of the already installed rom, as menu structure and general reg layout is similar (expect for certain update)
that way you can easily get most of your customization done without major effort (except of course for the one time you need to config your uc tool), right after flashing, some roms even check for uc configuration during rom customization process
about the reg edit: did the adjustment not work or the export of the changed setting?
yes i did it

^ I edited the registry in an attempt to decrease the headset minimum volume (I found the minimum volume too loud for in call & listening to the radio).
I have since learnt that I need to change the audiopara file. But I don't have the expertise. So I'm hoping my new 6.5 ROM's headset volume is a little quieter .
