rom with manilla + another shell? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I have Ultimate ROM with malinna in it. I want to try another shell like PointUI or iFonez, Is my phone/manilla will mess up if I install them?
Thanks?

it shouldn't. Just disable touchflo as a today plugin. You should be fine to run anything else. Just keep an eye on your memory. Too many shells and you will run out of memory.

SPB Shell locking phone

Hi Guys
SPB Shell is locking my phone as soon as I try to click any of its options -which is a bit rubbish as you can imagine!
Basicaly, the problems started as soon as I installed the "Diamond Theme for SPB MS2.1" (see thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402021&highlight=spb+shell+diamond+theme )
When I soft reset, the phone comes back up as the default SPB shell and does not show the new skin (should it?). Now I am new to SPB Shell so I guessed i needed to switch themes? I then click on any SPB menu/option and it freezes instantly, requiring a battery out reboot.
The skin instructions say to copy the skin details into the program files\spb shell directory and thats it, no other instructions.
Yes I have used search but, as that thread has over 1200 replies .... I get more hits than an Uzi at 2 feet. Besides which, is this not an SPB Shell issue rather than a theme? Of course, it could also be "pilot error" i.e. im being an idiot!
Im running standard, out of the box, Diamond with no cooked roms. I am also using the latest trial verion of SPB from the SPB website.
Any ideas? Am I being a muppet?
The problem is that the skins you have tried to put in SPB is in QVGA whereas the Diamond is VGA so it is uncompatible.
For the moment there are no many VGA skins but you can find some here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405646
I downloaded some VGA specific skins..... unless they were labeled wrong?

I tried the VGA skins and also had problems. The skins did not look very appealing anyway. Ended up reinstalling SPB Mobile Shell which overwrote the new skin with the original and all is good again.
Extremely impressed with SBP Mobile Shell. The interface is as fast as the iPhone, is highly functional, and looks great also with its 3D effects. Have now given up on Touchflow 3D.
Strongly recommend all Diamond users at least try SPB Mobile Shell.

That's right. I try Mobile Shell and I am very impressive. This is much faster than TF3D and much more customizable .
Now I am just looking for an application that can replace the media player in the touch flow, instead of using Media player (not really easy to use with the fingers! )

Install SPB Mobile Shell on Diamond

I'm eager to install the SPB Mobile Shell on my HTC Touch Diamond, but I cannot seem to find any guide anywhere on how to do it. What steps do I need to take prior to the installation? Is it sufficient to disable Touch Flo 3D in the registry, or do I have to install a custom ROM?
Thanks in advance!
why would you want to use mobile shell, touchflo 3d is so much better and faster?!
for installation you don't have to disable TF3D... but in order to see the Today-Plugins from Mobile-Shell you need to disable it.
I only use Shell on my Diamond - Flo drives me round the bend. Try setting the Flo weather location using Flo - it is enough to drive one batty!
Shell may not be as pretty - but is far more fuctional IMHO.
Just grab a ROM which either has no Flo or (at the very least) uninstallable Flo.
SPB shell is easy to set up - just follow the instructions that came with the product.
go to: start/settings/today/items and disable TF3D and enable SPB. if you wish to change back do the reverse.
i use SPB. it is quicker, more intuitive and just easier than the TF3D. the black skin looks ace also.
have tried to go back to TF3D but always end up back with SPB.
Thanks for your comments! Does anybody know how much space is wasted to have Flo installed but not using it? Do I really need to go for a custom ROM?
_4saken_: Touch Flo is driving me crazy. I've been using my Diamond for a week now and I simply cannot stand it anymore. I want an interface that is practical, that I can use everyday at work, that does not necessarily impress my friends in any way. But that helps me achieve my daily tasks in the most efficient way possible.
Touch Flo 3D is very nice looking but IMHO it is not especially functional. In my world simplicity and function wins over glossiness and sluggish animations ;-)
From the demos I've seen on SPB there are many smart features that saves clicks and gives a better flow of events, as compared to Touch Flo. But then again, I have yet to try it out
Are you sure?

Did you try it?
I had both. the combination of SPB mobile shell + SPB time + SPB phone suite is much more flexible and gives more possibilities. As for speed - the SPB is heavy if you use custom "nice" theme.

With heavy you mean slow? So you've experienced the SPB to be slower than Touch Flo? Just curious!
Yes and no

The Diamond is VGA (probably you know ). The SPB mobile shell uses bmp so to make custom theme you should double pics size and as result file size. So theme becomes heavy. However it does not make the program slow, but eats memory... So we came to the classic Windows situation - shell eats all memory dedicated for programs...
As for usability issue : the interface is more informative then 3DFlo. not too much though.
Cheers

spb shell or manilla ?

So,
Have found a comparatif between SPB Shell and manilla. Resultats that SPB is more faster than manilla and it may takes less memory .... So my question : have you ever seen that ?
If it's a reality, how can I uninstall a cooked rom with manilla ?
I mean that my kaiser is on the kaiser_wwe_shifu_02_basic rom, which automaticaly install manilla .... how can I kitched the rom to uninstall it ?
If I understand the question... you can go to your Today screen settings and disable everything, then simply install Spb Mobile Shell and any utilities like the SpbWatcher cab when you know you want to keep it as default.
All reversible by doing the opposite!

Alternative to touchFlo 3d

Does anyone know of an alternative to TouchFlo 3D. I spoke to an HTC technician who told me that he uses a better program for his Diamond that has better response times etc, but he wouldn't say what it was. I was complaining about the response times on the phone.
He probably meant PointUI, SPB Mobile Shell, Winterface or any number of alternatives. Been trying SPB Mobile Shell 3 which is pretty good (there's a free trial) but my fav so far is PointUI (free "light" version) - http://www.pointui.com
There are also a couple of iPhone clone interfaces in the Development and Hacking section.
Thanks a lot for that echolock. I am just downloading the free Pointui to the phone. Do I have to disable TouchPro 3d before loading it or will it do that automatically. I am fairly new to the phone so please excuse my ignorance.
Yes, you have to disable TF3D before using PointUI.
After all, if you decide to keep PointUI instead of TF3D, you have to flash your phone with a naked Rom so you gain space and memory.
Do you know how to disable TF3D. My phone is an Orange branded one if that makes a difference. They use thier own ROM. I can't find a way to disable it anywhere. I have downloaded Pointui directly to the phone but I can't start the program. It isn't in programs. I have found it in my documents. Can you help.
Go to start-settings-today, under items, untick touchflo.
Thanks for that. TF3D is now disabled. Any idea how i load Pointui onto my phone now?
Download the program (which is a .CAB file) to your computer, then copy to the phone (storage card is best area)
Then, using FileExplorer, naviagte on the phone, to the location you saved it, and click on the program, it'll ask a few things, just click the left soft button.
Thanks for that. Installed it and works fine. It does seem beeter than the TF3D.
I use scott seligman's launcher on the standard windows today screen,it just add's program icon's to today screen, one tap open's any application,no sliding this thing here, flipping this there, scrolling up or down.
It's not finger friendly though, unless you have pointy little finger's,or usually use a stylus anyway, but it doesn't get much faster or less resource hungry than this simple app.
WAD from lakeridgesoftware.com is pretty incredible
let me know what you think

SPB Mobile Shell ROM

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post. Noob on this forum.
I was wanting to know if there is a custom ROM out there only using SBP Mobile Shell 3.5?
I have tried a few different ROMs but I keep crashing whenever I put SPB on there. And All of them eat a lot of memory when multiple UI are loaded.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Ro

I don't think there's going to be one in the future, unless SPB provides Mobile Shell for free. Chef's cannot provide ROMs with commercial software on them -- that's frowned upon.
They may be able to provide a ROM with a trial-version of SPB Mobile Shell, but then the user is either gonna have to purchase a license or uninstall it. Then they're left with a basic 6.5 ROM with Titanium, which is something a user can start with rather than end up with!
i have ran SPB shell on a few different roms ie. TwoPumpChumps rom and a few others without a problem..only drawback is that ram hangs around 50-58 % when running for a while. but everything works smoothly

What Cook, said. See my setup below. I am running NRG Photon Titanium(non TF3D ROM).
Perfect ROM for SPB Shell
I too tried a million different ROMS and finally, it was agent_47's RHODIO ROM that I loaded up and stayed smooth with SPB on top. Camera works, I can watch a normal divx compressed, 700 Meg movie file on TCPNP or whatever that player's called, and I'm using 5 fully loaded desktops on lifestyle and one on professional. It's a dream setup! Just use a class 6 micro sdhc and install everything there NOTHING into the device.
