Jesus, there's like two or three of them a day now. Between all the "Don't download this, I'm just testing" apps and those ****ty $5 apps by Khalid Shaikh the market is rapidly going down the toilet.
Really y'all, stop that. Just sayin.
I can see why they'd publish them. I can't, however, see why they leave them for more than 5 minutes. On my first publish I did exactly that. Tested to make sure that I could do it properly, and that it could download and install properly. Of course, I published my finished app and not a test version... I agree though...
yah i hate it. especially since google's plan is for a user managed market place.
That Khalid Shaikh is getting annoying with his lame apps indeed.
I have to agree with you guys. True, its a user-managed market, but I think users really ought to realize that if they want a good market, they gotta put up good apps! I don't want to be hating on Shaikh, considering he actually knows how to make apps and has the SDK environment all setup and I have absolutely no idea how, just, he really oughta do a quality check.
I can understand as a developer wanting to get your apps on the market asap to have all of your hard work recognized. But yeah, releasing apps before they're at least usable and pretty stable does nothing but hurt your reputation. You only get the "Sort by date" promotion once. I made that mistake on my first app..

So true... And if you waste that opportunity with unfinished work (particularly more than one unfinished work) you can really screw up acceptance of future works... Oh well, i guess that's up to those devs, I just wish I could weed them out of my view.
Right, why dont we just have Market Sections specifically for things like test apps, and fart apps, so we dont hafta sit there and freakin look through an infinite list of fart apps to find anything good? I mean, seriously, there should be some kinda category besides "Apps" and "Games on the main market page that you can lump all those LAME, annoying, USELESS apps into so that serious android users dont hafta filter through fifty fart apps to see decent work by serious devs...we should Just have a category called "Nonsense Apps", and all those apps should be kept separately from the regular apps section so you can browse through frickin fart apps all day long if thats what floats your boat, but if you actually wanna find something USEFUL, all that nosense crap will get filtered out...And honestly, its freakin 2009, people, there are Gays and Lesbians everywhere, openly expressing themselves as such, theres a black man running the white house...and somehow FARTS ARE STILL FUNNY?! I guess i didnt get the memo, cuz if i wanted to laugh at a fart id just fart, considering that the human anatomy is a generator of such sounds...why waste all that effort writing a program that makes fart sounds, when you can jusr rip one whenever, and its WAY funnier than a stupid phone app, cuz ppl can actually smell it...so what is the problem with all these moron devs that come out actin like they didnt know anyone else had put out a fart app? I agree with OP...JUST STOP IT...
Memo to bmfc187. Farts will always br funny. Fart apps, on the other hand, are pretty lame.
No farts were ripped during the creation of this reply.

They do have a demo section for random bullcrap like this.

I'm not sayin i cant appreciate a good rip, but why go to all that trouble to digitize a fart sound that your own body already makes naturally, knowing full well that your little sound machine could NEVER reproduce the funk from those Supreme Burritos i had last nite at El Tapatio...
-BMFC
Right on, the G1 speaker doesn't seem to have enough "low-end" sound to do a good rip justice.
I must confess, I did get a kick out of one of the apps that let me put a fart alarm on my phone when anyone moved it. My girlfriend wanted to kill me after I set it and went to the mens room at Outback. Guess she moved it when the waitress brought out my salad, aanf well, many lols were had at her expense.
I sent an email to Jay at Cyrket.com to see if he'd be willing to do anything to allow us to apply filters to the data provided by his site. In the mean time, I set up a Yahoo Pipe for myself that filters out all apps with the words theme, skin, fart, or soundboard.
My "big idea" being an interface to the market which uses allows for very customizable seort and filter settings. Of course the actual market app would be used for purchases/downloads. This would only be a market browser.
It would be nice if we had the option to filter out certain developers (IndiaNIC, LLC and Khalid Sheikh) who are flooding the market with nonsense that obviously isn't selling.
ryan75: My Pipe does that.
The main problem with the Pipe approach though is that it's a work-around and as such is limited. Particularly in the case of sorting... You have to get all of the data first before you can reliably sort it, that can take a really long time with Pipes.
These developers should just provide links to themes, comics and icon packs etc. Test apps should go in the demo section. Finding 50 comics/books/storys/bs or themes or icons a day is friggin annoying. The farts I can deal with because there aren't 50 a day.

The reason that google hasn't dished out the paid apps like planned was most likely because 1 person could pay for it, download it and then spread it around to the rest of the android community.
I mean how could they prevent us (especially with root) from doing that.
I think that either they are gonna put a complete end to root (if possible),
or they're gonna completely redo the whole market and how it works.
Maybe make it so apps are originally apks but when installed they leave behind the installer and can not be installed again by finding the apk in the internal storage.
What are your thoughts?
Could be and what you said is being discussed in another part of dream forum. Tell you the truth I've been all over the internet constantly looking for paid apps and there is not much out there. Guitar hero said it was coming to android in jan and still isnt out yet! If they do that im sure someone will find a way around that as well though haha

Pay or not to pay for an application have been discussed for year and I believe there are people out there are willing to pay for the application they need, even the warez version is just some clicks away from them. You see how PC's software industry lives up? I cant find any software that cant be cracked. It's just a matter of time if someone is really wanna do that.
So it should be the same case here.
While I think there will be a common security thread in the Market I think developers need to also enact their own security to prevent priates. If there is one security procedure then it only takes one crack to take everything.
They will do like a DRM on the apks kind of like the iphone has now.
Honestly, anything they would do would probably be wasted time.
The iPhone anti-piracy mechanisms have been defeated recently, and whatever Google would put forth would likely be taken apart. There's just no way to prevent it, same as the problems that other platform developers have experienced.
There will always be people who pay for their apps, and there will always be people who pirate them, and very little can be done to prevent that.
It'll probably be something like every time an app is bought it is signed with an encrypted code that is given to each individual phone and coupled with a single application.
However, would each app have a different algorithm or would it all be one big pot.
Either way..
That would work rather well
Unfortunately for me though.

I agree. Remember though, there's not THAT many rooted users out there. I think that as long as the apps are priced reasonably, they'll be fine.
There should be a way to filter content like the porn girls even though it don't show nothing I don't my kids to have the option of seeing it on the market if this is the wrong section mods please edit

That I know of there isn't anything provided by Google. Would be nice if they implemented some of the parental controls that Apple has on their iPhone OS.
I'm sure there will be much better sorting and filtering once the web browser version of the Market launches.
You would think they would have a filter even if it was just a app come on Google. Internet should be a tool but not one to exploit girls or guys

For now, you could try appbrain... it allows filters...
There should be a filter, I haven't seen the apps myself. But depending on how graphic they are they might not even be allowed on the market

Easy fix. Get an iPhone.
Seriously, it is annoying.
Seems to me the more apps in the market the happier Google are. They don't seem to give a rats if they are absolute junk like many of them. They just want the app count up asap so they can brag about the growth. The [apps>Just in] option should be renamed [apps>Junk]. I do not think Googles approach is particulary fair on developers of genuine apps which drown in the mire of rubbish.
I mentioned in another thread how surprised I am the Top Paid app in the productivity section of the android market can only appeal to such a small portion of users. Seems to me the Market is not really gaining genuine momentum, if thats the best it can do. It is just filling up with fluff.
At least as craigacgomez says, Appbrain does a half decent job of hiding the rubbish.
The thing that annoys me most about the Android Market is that they won't give access to paid apps in many countries.
Why on earth would they block paid apps in some countries is just beyond me. I have a credit card, I want to pay for the apps, I want to spend money, so pleaseeee let me spend Google!!!
Am I way out of line for thinking that a kid who is old enough to carry a $600 phone should also be old enough to know a little bit about the world? I see more provocative images on billboards on the side of the interstate and ads on the side of Facebook for crying out loud.

No I think that is a fair comment.
But if I understand correctly the OP was actually asking for a way to filter content. His pet hate is porn. Others are OK with the porn but want to filter the Spam apps. So to my mind user configurable filtering of the market would be a good thing.
Here are a few things, that when I hear people say them or something like them, I immediately want to just punch them in the face.
1. "4G is here!"
Uhm, no. Next year, buddy, at the earliest. It's going to be in a few markets and a few markets for the next year or so, but not everywhere that you'd normally get 3G. And by the way, THIS.
2. "Verizon is the best (in the US)!"
Uhm, no. They may have the best coverage, but I'd prefer not to pay out of my a** to get it. I'd also like it if people weren't nickled and dimed for every little thing, like tiered data plans (F*CK bandwith capping) and tethering.
3. "My iPhone is the greatest!"
Uhm, no. Lay off the Kool-Aid.
4. "Why did you buy that BRICK of a phone? (about my Touch Pro 2)
Hey, di*kface, this phone has the best mobile keyboard on the planet. That's a lot of space right there. Not to mention all the hardware goodies that were nice when the phone first came out. I want my phone to be like a mini-computer, so I'm okay if it's as big and heavy as one.
Okay, just venting. Anyone else get frustrated at some of the things you constantly hear?????!!!!

I will bow down to you!! That exactly what everyone says!!! SPOT on!
This is what i get in school:
"Why have you got an old 80's phone?" "I havent, but i better my phone is better than yours at multitasking!"
"Look he carrys his computer around in his pocket" "at least ive got a computer!"
Or..
"Whys your phone so big?" "Because its about to burst with the amount of functions it has"
Some people ask how old my phone is. I say 7 years old. They say its getting on a bit. Why don't you buy a Samsung Tocco Lite? I say:
1. Tocco's screen is too small,
2. I can't play DOOM on a tocco,
3. Its too popular
4. Its not windows mobile,
5. Why would i spend about £60 on a phone i can lose easier because its small?
6. The build quality won't be as good.
So there!!!! Iam a bit tired now, might just chop my hands off.

I always get "It's a bit Heavy" - to which they get "It has a fully functional QWERTY keyboard - it's an acceptable trade off".
I also like taking the proverbial "P" out of people who still own iPhone's and are getting bored with them. I keep telling them how many of Apple FanBoi's have now gotten the HTC Desire and love it now.

I hope nobody minds if I expand to the internet, too (I guess that's still relevant to the topic heading)...

I have 2 Twitter accounts and I try to use them as often as possible, but I just can't figure out why people would choose this over Facebook. You get the status updates, you can post pictures and videos just the same, and you have more of a profile established with loads of stuff. I mean all of my status updates are the same for all of them (thanks to Digsby) and please don't be offended by this, but why do a majority of people prefer Twitter? I'd love to get into it, but I just don't see it.

I've found that Twitter is best to reach a larger audience in a shorter amount of time, which is why it is perfect for ROMs and such. John releases a rom, he has 20,000 followers. These followers tell their followers through a retweet and it quickly gets around. With Facebook it could take days before anyone notices something (or says anything).
I've always used Facebook for family conversations and Twitter for my android friends.

Ahhhh, that makes good sense. Actually, now that I think about it, it makes sense for why Twitter is so popular for celebrities and media outlets. Hmm, interesting. Thanks!
I read that Google is cleaning up the Android Market. I have yet to see this. !
Why don't they just update the market app to allow blocking of certain developers and their crap apps..
For example free4android and their 146 crap games, Susan xin and her 40 different versions of the same "funny pictures" app, Andy.Li who I'm pretty sure is also aka Susan xin, Puzzle and their 267 different apps of wallpaper puzzles...which the market is LOADED with along with memory games. Instead of a "flag as offensive", just let us block them. You can delete them but they'll just make another gmail name and reflood the market again.
For once i'd like to check the Just-In and not thumb scroll endlessly through crap apps from these spam like developers.
It is annoying, but I really don't care. I usually just search or look at top apps/games.
Let's not turn it into a locked down app-store.
They could let users apply a filter to their market app to filter out the offending devs I suppose. ie-go to one of offending devs pages in marketplace and click "add dev to block-filter" or something similar. I'd guess I might filter a few out if I had the option.
I thought this was about our forums at first and was excited!

Trick your friends! Tell them you get a new prototype iPhone hardware, or you installed iOS on your WindowsPhone. Looks like iOS interface, but when they click it, a cartoon poo appears where they clicked and it plays a nasty fart sound! Use it to annoy those other snobby stuck-up iPhone users!
It goes for $0.99 on the Marketplace, but I am making it available for free to fellow XDA members; if you can sideload apps via a xap file. If you like it and use it a lot, feel free to support me by purchasing it on the Marketplace if you want. But, enjoy the free version for now because XDA is awesome!
Download/Purchase link via Zune. Download link should wok by 4/7/11 for all regions.
V1.1 is now available. It now sets the "iPhone" clock to the current system time instead of a static clock, to increase immersion. Also loads faster.
So juvenile... And thank you very much!
definitely worth it's 99 cents
If you guys do enjoy it and purchase it on the Marketplace please review it also to help me out!
It would be nice if you could at least do something in the app. For example, if you could swipe through the pages to make it seem much more realistic. Also, maybe get a higher resolution screenshot of iOS? This screenshot makes it look more like a prototype of the original iPhone somehow running iOS 4.
If these things are done, it would definitely be worth the 99 cents and probably even more!
Great!

The forum compresses the attached images. The real app is high resolution. I guess I should find a website to host the screenshot and link it.
I really worry about that in the Microsoft marketplace. They compress the screenshots even further and makes it look so much worse that it is annoying.

With all due respect to the OP, this is singlehandedly one of the most retarded and juvenile things I've ever seen.
We all have mobile devices based on what our preferences and likes are, this isn't the sort of maturity that we should be projecting about the iPhone, it's appalling. I own an Android phone, but I'm perfectly content with respecting all the phone platforms as very capable.
I hate ****-talking any app like this, but it needs to be said. It's a joke for now, har har har, but it projects a terrible attitude towards the mobile space and I doubt you'll be taken seriously should you choose to release mature paid apps in the future.
Good day to you.

I have released mature apps. I have several in the top 10 in the WP7 Marketplace in a couple different categories. So that takes care of that.
To the rest of what you said, whatever. Its called a joke, people have different sense of humors. It hurts nobody. Other people enjoy it, you are not the morality police. Insult the quality of the app, please, I want to improve my programming. But just because it offends you does not mean your opinion is the only right one and you should insult everyone else that enjoys this type of humor....
