I cannot connect to wifi. It says connected and it says i have an IP address but i can't navigate to any webpages. I use WEP and have WM5. If I enter a wrong wep key it won't connect so i feel that i am actually connected to the network just my device isn't realizing it. Is there any manager like the cooked rom of 2003se where i could manually choose WLan as my option to connect to the internet. I have also tried turning off wep on my router and other settings like that. Changed in between connected to work or the internet. Any ideas?
I found the problem. for some reason it was trying to connect on my gprs proxt server. that would always deny the connection. I had to set up my GPRS as my work connection and a generic connection that connected to the internet and ONLY put this network connects to the internet. Also it only worked if i used the existing my work connection and didn't work if i created my own with the same settings..
All is now well in thw WM5 world.. no more resets!!! think this might be a bug though..
I just realized that this ONLY pertains to ATT GPRS settings because they are the only ones who need to set up a proxy server..
now that connections work with my wifi i have one problem and this occurs with GPRS also.. my connections seem to time out. I was trying to download about 50k of mail and after about 10 messages it says "Unable to connect to incoming mail server" I've been connected just fine.. then the connections fails.. i have to do it all over again..
I've set up "My Work Connection" to connect to the internet via my home wifi connection.
I don't use a proxy to connect, but frequently the device sets a proxy on this connection by itself.
Is there anywhere in the registry that refers to network connections? I would like to disable this "feature"
cheers
Rob
I have been reading WiFi threads on here for hours but can't seem to find the right answer.
I have a WiFi network at home that I can connect to when enabling Wi-Fi through the Comm Manager. My Wizard is running Xelencin's T-Mobile USA 2.26 Custom ROM (Wizard/MDA).
The problem is, when I'm at home and fire up Pocket IE, the phone tries to connect using GPRS rather than my WiFi connection. What I want is for Pocket IE to use WiFi when I'm connected to WiFi, and GPRS at other times.
Many posts reference going to Start > Settings >Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks, and changing the settings for "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet..." to either "My ISP" or "My Work Network".
I have 4 items listed in these drop-downs:
My ISP
T-Mobile Data
T-Mobile MMS
My Work Network
When I look at the settings for "My ISP" there is one connection defined called "T-Mobile WModem Link" that is set to use the modem "Cellular Line (GPRS) and access point name "wap.voicestream.com"
The settings for "My Work Network" don't show a connection listed at all. If I create a new one, my options for selecting a "modem" are:
Bluetooth
Cellular Line
Cellular Line (GPRS)
Generic IrDA
Hayes Compatible on COM1:
None of these seems to be right for a WiFi connection.
The settings for "T-Mobile Data" are the same as the settings for My ISP except the connection is called "T-Mobile Data"
The settings for "T-Mobile MMS" are also the same (GPRS and wap.voicestream.com).
It seems like T-Mobile is blocking me from using Wi-Fi as the default internet connection. I really like this ROM and would prefer not to change it. Can anyone help?
with my Wizard as long as i'm connected to a wifi network (and i have an IP address and gateway from that network) it will browse with it... only when i'm not on any network connected to the internet (including via USB Active sync) does it connect using gprs. The "My ISP" conenction is configured for my GPRS Network.
Somehting i can suggest is that you open Network Adapters, select your WLAN Wireless Adapter and choose "this network card connect me to The Internet"
good luck!
PS make sure the wifi network your conecting has a shared internet connection... if its not shared your phone will use GPRS even if its connected.

I have no problem browsing with Wifi. My wireless connection isnt the issue. My problem is not being able to make Wi-Fi, my default internet connection.
I think this works
I think this is the thread that solved it for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261438&highlight=internet+wifi+gprs
To be fair, I usually have to try a couple of settings to get it to work automatically, but eventually I do.
No luck for me. I think I'm just going to have to learn how to cook a custom extended rom without the "T-Mobile_Network_Customizations.cab", and then hard reset. Is there a simple way to delete that cab file from the extended rom and also make that change to the "Config.txt" file (in the extended rom)? Anytime I try making changes to the extended rom via Total Commander, all the files in the extended rom end up looking garbled.
I am no longer able to connect to the Internet via my home WiFi network. I am able to WiFi connect to the network without any problems, but when I try to use any application that accesses the Internet the phone looks for a GRPS connection. I do not have a data account attached to my sim as I live in Australia, and as far as that sort of thing go, we are a backwater…
The WiFi connection and access was previously working fine until I tried to disable the GPRS from trying to connect, as this would routinely bring up messages informing me that a GPRS connection could not be made. I do not know what settings I have changed but I cannot seem to reverse the situation.
I have soft reset a number of times, I have re-run the connection wizard, etc my current settings are as follows:
WiFi:
Wireless
Configure Wireless Networks –
.MyWirelessNetwork Connected
Configure Wireless Network-
Network Name: MyWirelessNetwork
Connects By: The Internet
This is a hidden network: unchecked
Configure Wireless Authentication-

My Work Network
No connections have been set up here
Advanced

Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: Vodafone Internet Settings
Programs that automatically connect to a Private network should connect using: My Work Network

I do not know if this is all the info need to sort this out, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have done allot of customising and I really don't want to have to a Hard Reset. I can connect through all applications, if I am connected by USB.
Thanks
First you need to make sure your connection is set to use My Work Network as first priority. Next you need to make sure that the WiFi connection connects to WORK NOT the INTERNET. probably your problem, did the same thing on my 8125
Cannot access hidden Wifi / Non-broadcasting SSID with the HTC TyTn II Kaiser

Hi there,
Can someone please help by advising me on how to overcome this problem.
If I broadcast my SSID, the device connects fine, but when I stop broadcasting, the device will show that the network is unavailable. I did check the "This is a hidden network" checkbox option, in the settings.
Configure Wireless Network-
Network Name: MyWirelessNetwork
Connects By: Work
This is a hidden network: CHECKED
Configure Wireless Authentication-
Authentication: Open
Data Encryption: WPA2-PSK
The Key is Automatically Provided: unchecked
Network Key: **********
Key Index: 1
Please help,... many thanks!
Kind regards,
JonD

Additional information about my WiFi Router:
I'm using a D-Link DI-524 wireless router that I set as a hidden network (disabled SSID broadcast).
I also enabled the MAC filtering, and of course the device's MAC address is already added to the approved list for connections, so I think there is no issue with the router or network (like I mentioned before, when I enabled the SSID broadcast all devices connect perfectly and all is good, but when I disabled the SSID broadcast, the Kaiser & the vista laptop will say the network is unavailable and can't connect).
No problems with connections at all with my other laptop that runs on XP.
Stupid question...but are you able to connect to the network with another devcie. Also have to tried running a third party program that can scan for wireless AP's from the device.
And can you connect to any other hidden network..
It might be in a really good hiding spot.

Somethings wrong with what you posted. WPA2-PSK is a form of authentication, and it would use either AES or TKIP as it's method of encryption. There is no such thing as a WPA, open network (WEP, open yes, but not WPA).
gwnorth, thanks for pointing that out.... the following is the correct configuration:
Configure Wireless Network-
Network Name: MyWirelessNetwork
Connects By: The Internet
This is a hidden network: CHECKED
Configure Wireless Authentication-
Authentication: WPA2-PSK
Data Encryption: TKIP
The Key is Automatically Provided: unchecked

As for the other questions (for Arlop & ChumleyEX), I've got no problems connecting to my non-broadcast SSID network with my laptop running XP.... but I face the same problem with my other laptop that runs on vista.
of course, when I enabled the SSID broadcast, everything connects fine (the Kaiser and the vista laptop).
If anybody faced this similar problem and knows a solution, please let me know. Appreciate your help in the matter.
What is the point to have the system acknowledging that the network is hidden or not (checkbox option "This is a hidden network:" CHECKED or UNCHECKED ), but still fail to connect to it.
cheers,
JonD.
I'm not sure if this will help ...
I'm using a Netgear wireless router provided by my company which is set to an hidden network.
To set up access via my Kaiser I enter:
Setting > Connection > WiFi > Add New ...
Network name > Mynetworkname
Connects to > The internet
Hidden network > Checked
Authentication > Open
Data Encryption > WEP
The key is automatically provided > Un-Checked
Network Key > ****************************
Key Index > 1
What you haven't mentioned, but something that I needed to do ... The router needs to know my PDA mac address to allow access in its settings to support authorisation.
Since our IT department control the access rights (unless you have the password ), I do not know if the mac address information is a company protocol or part of a 'hidden network' setting.
PS. I always keep the WEP key in a text file on the PDA to copy and paste, because it's too troublesome to type it out each time I change the ROM's and have to set it up again.
I hope this helps.

Sounds to me like you have a network issue, not a Kaiser issue since you said your having the same issues on Vista.
I do not broadcast my SSID and my tilt has no problems connecting.
Maybe you have MAC-address filtering enabled?
I have seen routers giving problems with MAC-filtering disabled and SSID broadcasting disabled.
Devices that had a working connection, disconnected when we disabled SSID-broadcast.
Strange, but enabling the MAC-address filter list solved that.
To ajs007, jallenclark & johanromijn thank you for your replies.

ajs007, do you think different authentication protocols (you use WEP, but I use WPA-PSK) make any difference?
jallenclark, is there anything you did differently?
Thanks.

I have the same issue with mine. I cannot connect to a hidden network....initially.
I turned on SSID broadcast, the Tilt connect immediately and then unchecked the SSID Broadcast.
Now it connects always.
Seems like it should work.. other devices connect fine as long as the name is specified.

Sadly, I tried that, connects immediately when the SSID is broadcast, and while it remains connected, I turn off the broadcast and the device lost connectivity immediately too.
Man... I don't understand this......
here are some more info (ROM version and stuff), just in case you guys out there can help figure this out...... many thanks!
ROM version: 2.50.771.0 WWE
ROM Date: 10 March 2008
Radio version: 1.27.15.32
Protocol version: 22.51.88.13H
I have similar problem, Hermes with wm6.1. When my router is set up to use WEP I have no problem to connect, but I prefer WPA2-PSK and my PDA gets stuck on "connecting".
My iBook and a PC laptop can connect without problem...and so does my buddy's iPhone...
Change the radio version. try flashing a radio that end in 36. xD
i have similar problem with my x1. radio version ends with 18. firmware version is R2AA010. exists one with newer radio? thx.
Works on mine?
I went to a customer site recently where they were deploying a Wireless LAN. As they were using a hidden SSID & WPA2-PSK & AES I tested it with my Kaiser and after a couple of attempts it connected OK (I think typos on my part were why it took two attempts..).
Hidden SSID's are pretty useless anyway as they are easy to discover. I think beefing up the back end security is a much better option - use WPA2 with PEAP or EAP-TLS instead of just hiding the SSID and using Pre-Shared-Keys. If the key is leaked then think of the number of devices you need to manually reconfigure.
