New Verizon Diamond - Questions - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi All,
I just received a Verizon Diamond and can't wait to get everything running smooth. I think i have some tweaking to do first though. I'm at the moment trying to get a grasp on the memory. I'm coming from a Touch Vogue. I was surprised when looking at my free storage and program memory that the Diamond was much lower then the Vogue.
Under Settings\System\DeviceInfo\Hardware
Touch Vogue
RAM size 128MB
Flash size 256MB
Touch Diamond
RAM size 192MB
Flash size 256MB
However when I look at the free program and storage memory I see.
Touch Vogue
Storage
Total-144.74MB
Program
Total-92.84
Diamond
Storage
Total-100.55MB
Program
Total-113.64MB
Is this normal? Where is all the additional memory going from the Diamond? When comparing it to the Sprint Diamond it seemed that the Ram and Flash sizes were the same however the Storage and Program totals were much higher.

No one?
How do other network Diamonds compare?

yea verizon took out alot of mem in there diamond, and the verizon diamond is like the only lame phone that no one has made an unlocker for so you can flash a new rom.i got mine as a replacment for a vogue,i hate it. i miss my vogue,it was one of the best phones i ever had.it was the perfect size and shape.customised the crap out of it.if they came out with a vogue 2 with more mem, and a vga screen i would buy one today and throw this diamond in the trash.

wing memory issues

I had a mda, it broke, I had insurance.. when I called to get a new mda they sakd they were OPP and they sent me a wing. I though I was making out good. when I got it it was much slimmer and sleeker than the mda. then I turned it on, installed my five apps, stored on the 2mb storage card.. I had to lowered my pagepool to 6mb just to get 21mb of program memory after a hard reset.. that means there roughly 35-38% mem free; my mda had way more programs and constantly had 50+% free program mem at all times.. are any of the apps ever gonna suppor wm6? when will an official, or even custom come out that fixes this low memory problem? any suggestions would be appreciatd.
thanks.

Amount of memory ROM RAM (Compact IV)!

I just bought a T-Mobile Compact IV - going to settings - memory it shows memory to be:
Storage Total 84.81MB and Program Total 113.07MB ... shouldnt these be 192MB and 256MB?!?
Is there something wrong with my memory?
Thanks
The firmware just incorectly reports the totals you have AFTER T-Mobile software (and other firmware customizations) take their space.
Don't worry about it.
Indeed what NLS said, there were many early reports stating that the MDA Compact IV had a lower amount of RAM due to it's smaller size but this is infact not true, i'd just ignore any readings you get, and especially ignore any articles you get on it, it has been proven to have both the 192MB and the 256MB and is not limited
As for the T-Mobile ROM showing it, mine reported both at the correct numbers, which ROM are you at, the 1.93 or the earlier one? I was at the earlier one (very very very slow) but now i hear T-Mobile are back in stock with the new rom update!
still,,,
I know I guess I shouldnt worry but
It states it Settings I have for example Storage Total 84.81MB, In use 36.30MB and Free 48.52MB
Doesnt this include all the T-mobile stuff installed?.... Sorry Im not expert but this is far from the 192 MB advertised?
the 36.3 are EVEN MORE "eaten" MB, that are not "locked out" (they are in "visible" area), "eaten" after initial setup, while the rest are locked out because they contain the setup CABs etc.

Is it normal and same to yours the Rhodium ROM consume so big size of memory?

What confused me is as following:
In the setting\system\device information\hardware tab(tranlated from chinese), it show up the RAM size is 256MB and the Flash ROM size is 512MB, and the storage memory is 279.09MB.
in the setting\system\memory\main memory tab, it show up there are 279.09MB storage memory(ROM) totally and 183.60 MB program memory(RAM) totally.
Why this will happened? The ROM of the Rhodium consume 232.91MB Flash ROM(512-279.09=232.91)? Is it so big? And how about the RAM?
Is there any chance for me to upgrade the ROM and RAM to bigger size in some kind of phone repair shop?

as long as the phone does not run out of memory everything is fine. so why you want to have more ram?

I like to put everything into the phone bringing with me everywhere, including all kind of software and all kind of materials, photo, music, e-book, home video etc.
if the ROM and RAM are not big enough, I will always be worried about them when install software or copy materials. Even it still does not run out off memory, but I do worry about it all the time.
although it can be expanded by TF card, however, many software can't run on TF card and the read/write speed of the TF card is slower than the main memory.
If the main memory is big enough, I can install all of the software into main memory and copy all of the materials into TF card. At that condition, I can easily change TF card to get anymore new contents.
My last device is O2 flame, I do feel comfortable with its big Flash ROM but its RAM still too small and also many other shortcoming.
I ever think of N97 for the built in 32G memory, however, I am used to WM system.
I ever think of samsung i908 for the built in 8G memory, however there is several week points in its specification.
I do not understand why HTC build in so small memory in such a highend model while its competitor, such as Apple,Nokia,Sumsung, are goint toward another way.
get a 8GB memory card, should be enough, and install everything in your memory card. That's what I do, and everything is fine.
Be sure, tho, to install important programs, like drivers, softwares like skins, etc to your device, since the memory card initializes late on boot.
All in all, you should not have any problems even tough the rom is huge. mine is still fast and fancy since day 1, and I have my 8GB nearly full of s***.

I got a 8GB TF card too and it's now in my device.
However, I have to install some software into the card. Then when I change another card for multi-media contents, those software become unuseable. This is not comfortable for using experience.
What I can't understand is why not built in more memory for user's convenience since it's known the ROM and OS occupied so much memory.

perhaps you could have the programs installed into the same directory on different SD cards so when swapping them for Media purposes you do not break the program.
just a thought, never tried it. i can fit everything i want on a 16GB card..

ROM Uprgrade LAG

Hey guys, I had a TP2 Sprint, now upgraded to MiteyMikes ROM (+WM6.5 I might add) but my fone doesn't mention "loading touch Flo 3D" upon loading up and also there is also Lag in software, turning the screen but a BIG lag when using the windows explorer.
Can anyone explain why that occurs and more importantly how to change prevent it...
Added info:
I think it cud be a shortage of memory. i have ordered a 16Gb mem card from china but its taking ages coming. so to test the fone, I have had to load apps on the phone memory.. could that be a/contributing reason to the lag and should i save the apps to memcard memory when i get it. Can I install them on mem card...
thanks for your help.. well in anticipation of it, anyway...

you should post your question in the thread that you downloaded the rom from, if you have a sprint tp2 that would be in the cmda rhodium forum not here in the gsm.

128GB SSD GMonster PhotoFast 1.8 ZIF V4 + 2GB RAM Kingston MicroDIMM - Upgrade Done!

Hi all,
I just updated my HTC Shift with an SSD GMonster Photofast 1.8 ZIF V4 128GB and RAM 2GB Kingston DDR2 214pin MicroDIMM. Both was bought from eBay. The 128GB SSD cost me 589$ and the 2GB RAM cost me 189$.
My WM side is flashed with the Age of Beauty ROM by Thaihugo with GPS and Phone activated wich works better and lite version have a lot of free space. On Windows side I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have old experience with cell phones repairing and software updating so was very easy to open the Shift and replace the HDD and RAM. The SSD connector is identical with the genuine HDD connector and the SSD size match perfectly the HDD size. I restored my old Windows 7 image to the new SSD using Acronis True Image Home which done the work as expected.
Everything goes fine but when my Windows 7 try to boot sometimes I get blue screen. Sometimes boot was completed but in 5-10 minutes I get again blue screens. The errors messages was different but when searching on Google all were reffered to RAM. I also read here an article with the same issue for some users after upgrading to 2GB RAM so I restored my 1GB RAM and the "blue screen" issue was gone. I contacted the seller of the RAM and I will send it back tomorrow to get an replacement item.
HTC Shift support 2GB RAM and the memory was compatible and new item but seems that some items arrive defective from factory but an replacement will fix that issue.
Anyway the GMonster PhotoFast 1.8 ZIF V4 128GB is the fastest on the market as the read/sec speed is 120MB/sec and the write/sec speed is the 90MB/sec comparing with the original HTC Shift HDD which have about 20MB/sec read speed and 15MB/sec write speed. This also come with 64MB RAM inside and Built-in Garbage Collection which make it really faster and stable. GMonster is an Japan company with it's factory in Taiwan and they seems to be a great name on SSD.
Even with 1GB RAM installed my boot time speed was reduced dramatically and everything is faster as before. My battery life increased with about 30 min as those GMoster SSD's are low energy level optimized. Now the fan don't run at maximum speed anymore. Is like I own a new device so even if I spent about 600$ for this SSD believe me that is really a great difference.
Now I expect my RAM replacement so I can start using the maximum performance with my HTC Shift.
Best Regards!
Remember that when you use SSD, you need to optimize your Windows for SSD as there are some tehnologies created to make old HDD faster but those will end by shorting your SSD life if not disabled.
1. Disable Defrag as SSD is faster enough to not need it.
2. Disable Prefetch (you need to edit registry).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prefetcher
3. Disable Superfetch service.
4. Disable ReadyBoost (from "Performance Monitor").
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18073901
Windows 7 should disable by default all those things but the issue come that Windows 7 is not yet able to detect all SSD so if will not know that the hardware installed is an SSD then will keep them active.

Great guide deprotector!
this will be very useful.
What is real tranfer rate of this sdd? Can y benchmak it? I think, that zif has same transfer as ide and it has max 60MB/s. it will kill performance.
can you give guidance in step by step how to upgrade ssd & ram ?

AnyAny luck with the ram replacement? I had the same issue and decided to go through the reimbursement instead of the replacement option... I haven{t seem anyone yet confirm the the new memory module actually works without flaws...
Great news for a breat device. Great price too though
There is a small and very useful application for Windows 7, regarding SSD tweaks. Find it here:

Cheers.
now is 99$,2g ddr in ebay.
but expensive yet.
