UK Car Charger - will it work in America? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Thinking about using my Vario III as a sat nav for when I go to California - I'm going to be renting a car there. Will UK car chargers fit the lighter socket, or do I need to buy a car charger specifically for american cars..? Can someone point me in the right ebay direction if so?

Yes it will. 12V standard for cars. Trucks and caravans might be 24V, but all the cars should be fine.

Having used my kaiser in the UK and US I can state 100% that yes the car charger will work in the US, in fact the mains charger will also work in the US if you get a plug adapter (I got mine from walmart for $9, it is a fully universal adapter with surge arrestor.)
Only thing you will need are the US maps for whatever GPS software you want to use.

Need a new AC adapter replacement for Qtek 9100. What kind of specs?

I have a Qtek 9100 (Wizard clone) and I noticed that my battery is completely drained from my device. I can't find my AC adapter but I have my USB cable to my PC but that won't start recharing it. I recently saw a post that if your battery is completely dead, the USB cable connected to the phone cannot recharge it as it must atleast have 1000mW to charge it? I have tried to find some specs and I want to know exactly what kind of AC adapter I need for that phone? a 5v 2000mW mini USB adapter or something? Not sure what I need. Any ideas?
here is one that u can use

that is the one i have for my wizard
input: 100-240v/~0.2A 50-60Hz
output: 5V
Thanks Malik05,
I saw the specs on it and it does 5V-1A output. I was looking for a dealer in Canada and it seems that most cell phone stores only have AC adapters that ONLY do 0.2-0.5A which I tried and doesn't work. I couldn't find anyone selling a 5V-1A AC adapter.

there ya go, it should do the trick, if not, then try going to a tmobile store...but that eBay link should do it...
Do you guys think there is anything special to the charger? When its fully drained, my iPod charger with a mini-USB cable doesn't work either (output is listed as 5V 1.0A).
the only thing special between the wizard charger is that it needs a full 1A, not .5A when the battery is at absolute zero...as for the iPod, i dont discuss apple products, it will turn into a debate hehe...
Thanks for the link to the new dealer Malik05 but he only ships within the US. ( Not Canada ). I saw one other place that might sell an adapter on ebay but the shipping was like $28 for an ac adapter. I am getting abit worried that even an Ipod charger that DOES supply 5V-1A doesn't even charger the phone when it's batteries are completely dead. It doesn't give me much confidence that any other adapter will work. Do you have another ebay link to purchase one that will work?
iPod dosnt have the same connectors as the wizard, what exactly are you talking about?
Sorry if I caused some confusion, I'll try to clarify some things.
I'm having the same problem charging my wizard since I lost my AC adapter over the weekend. I do, however, have the charger from my iPod (which is just an AC adapter with a female USB connector). With this iPod charger and a mini-USB data cable, I used to be able to charge the phone, that is until now. The only difference I can think of, is because the phone's battery is now fully drained.
The iPod charger is listed as 5v, 1.0A and still charges my iPod (using the iPod's dock connector cable).
o okay...i just thought that ipod chargers had their own standard, but anyway..you may need the original wizard charger...becacuse ive seen this problem with Motorola phones, some RAZR phones will not charge unless it is a motorla branded charger...

European Diamond Device to be charged in the USA: What´s needed?¿?¿?

Hello, I´ve bought a Spanish diamond (230 V) and am going to travel to hte USA next Tuesday and don´t know if i only need a plug-adaptor or the plug-adaptor and the 230V to 110V converter?¿?¿?
If also need the 230V to 110V converter where can I buy it something like this cheap? In the airport?¿?¿?
Thanks
I believe you only need the plug adapter, but check your charger's plug to make sure it's not different from mine. Mine shows Input of 100-240V. I'm using a Euro version of the Diamond in the US, and have a simple US plug adapter on it (since 110V is within the input range).
my charger input is also from 100-240 V, ok, i´ll only have to buy the plug adapter. Thanks mate
In the U.S. walk into any BestBuy retailer and ask for a standard mini-usb charger - ask for the type that fits a blackberry if they need more information - an unbranded replacement will do - there are plenty to choose from - should cost no more than US$15 - You could also buy a travel USB charging kit - circa US$30 - or a cusn car charger for any worldwide vehicle?
Hope that helps.

[Q] Car Chargers

Has anyone found a good car charger that they know works with the Focus? My dad's super-paranoid about my phone, and wants me to have a car charger. The problem, as many of you probably know, is that the Focus seems finnicky about what chargers it gets along with. Does anyone have one that they've tried that works?
I went with the Belkin Micro USB car adapter, works great, especially if you need to charge other USB devices.
This is the charger I used. It's made by Motorola but it works great with the Focus. Plus the LED light is a transparent window which looks awesome. It doesn't quite look like the photo. It's also discounted. I'll probably be ordering a couple more to keep in my other car.

IGO
I use the IGO car charger with the tip for my Samsung Focus. I also have the tip for my wifes Samsung Sync A707. I also had the tip for my FUZE when I was using that. It was nice, we could travel and just bring the additional tip and charge either phone. Works on my Focus very well.
I bought my Focus from Costco and they gave me a free no-name chinese car charger with the phone. I used it only once so far and my phone did not explode or anything, but I don't know if it was actually charging or not. The battery icon had the 'plug' graphic on it, but how can I tell if it was working properly?
I ended up getting a cheap charger off from eBay, it's kind of like the motorola listed that has the USB port. It also came with the USB cable and another house plug-in with the USB port. I travel a lot for the military so I like to have a spare cable and house charger.
i've used a Griffin which has a USB plugin...from my blackberry phone, HTC Tilt2 (winmo 6.5), HTC Aria (android), and will use it on my Focus. but with the battery, i haven't had a need for it yet lol. off the home charger with a full charge at 6:30am...drove to atlanta (well covered 3G area) to Athens (so so 3G) and all the back home down back roads through no name towns (spotty coverage). it's now 5:30 and i'm still showing half a battery gauge. that's with a few calls, plenty of texting, and a lot of web browsing.
damn i love this phone
I use one I got from Costco with my Backflip last year. I figured all micro USB would be fine.
Got a couple Rocketfish ones from Best Buy - work great
IMO, the Belkin is nice because it is low-profile. a very clean looking charging setup. Also can use whatever microusb I have handy rather than some dedicated cable.

Get the OEM charger here. I have had no issue with the MicroUSB connector, unlike my last car charger that just died. Can't beat the price either.
I bought three of these chargers...
I got three of these chargers off amazon. They are oem, but are official motorola and look really nice. They have a translucent window with the M on them that lights up when they are plugged in. They are a steal at less than five dollars. Go here-->http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehicle-Adapter-micro-USB-Charger/dp/B000S5Q9CA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304549428&sr=8-1-spell.
That's what I got too, just through Amazon for prime 2 day.

[Q] Car charger when using GPS!

Hi,
I have got a generic car charger I got off Ebay which seems to have a minor issue. When using GPS and charging in the car, the charge continues to drop...although slower than if it wasn't being charged. Basically means that eventually, despite being charged all the time, the battery will go flat when using GPS. I assume this is because the car charger is behaving as though its being charged via a USB port rather than mains.
Is this a problem with all car chargers...or just because I got the cheapest car charger I could get on eBay?
Would buying the official Samsung car charger provide a more efficient and quicker charging?
Im curious about this as well. I use a cheap charger and it seems to "maintain" the current charge, but doesnt actually charge.

Mine was dropping one percentage point every 15 minutes or so. If I was running low on battery before getting in the car, I probably wouldn't get very far using the GPS
you guys need to get a HIGH amp car charger
i purchased a 2Amp charger and it works perfectly
average old (free) included car chargers are usually rated at 450 mAh or less
translation, you use the battery faster than it can charge it back
basically you need charger that guarantees 1 Amp (1000 mAh) or more for it to properly work in the car, meanwhile using the GPS and Bluetooth streaming
i picked up a cheap duracell brand car charger from the local frys store before embarking on my 4 hour journey from Houston to Dallas, i had music playing and gps with screen brightness at 100%
no issues for me
I use a Motorola charger, 950 mah. Works find for me. Got it for $5 on Amazon. It's not a USB adapter charger, but it gets the job done.

Hope you had that phone in front of your A/C otherwise the back cover probably would have melted.
the one i'm using was originally made for BlackBerries
There's a thread somewhere about modding your car USB charger charger cable by linking the data parts to make it think it's mains and allowing a full 1amp to come through.
Can anyone link to a reliable 1amp on Amazon or something?

I've just got one of these from Amazon...

Seem to do the trick so far, rated at 1A and on a brief test this morning on the way to work actually charged the phone with NAV and GPS running.
The Samsung I had bought previously did show as charging from 'AC' (so D+ and D- shorted) but was only rated at 750mA which clearly wasn't quite enough.
I had one from Belkin, bought for my old iPhone, it works really well with the Nexus S, even with the GPS always on.
Most of the ipad chargers are rated at 2 amp. Get one with a usb connection and use your own usb cable. Kensington makes one in a micro format that hides completely in the lighter outlet. Works great for me.

USA Touchpad Charger.

Hi, basically after a large number of issues HP UK have arranged for a new touchpad to be shipped to me from the USA. They've said the charger it comes with will be the US one (obviously). Basically the barrel is universal, it's just the plastic adapters, does anyone know if the US charger/touchpad includes the UK converter.
I'm going to presume no, because the UK one only includes EU, just I'd have an extra charger if it did.
Thanks.
No. Charger for US TouchPad only includes US plug.
Ok thanks, I'll get a travel adapter or something.
