Hey guys/gals what is up. I'm so happy to announce that sometime next week my HTC Aria will be handed to me by UPS. Anyway I have been a member here for a while under the HTC Fuze(Touch PRO)section and tinkering around with there android port. That was untill my phones touch screen decided not to work back in june. So I have been Sitting around with my old Nokia that still has the Cingular Wireless logo on the back. Anyway I can't wait to finally be back in the phone game and finally on a true android phone. Is there any apps besides advanced task killer I should keep my eye out on?
Thanks a bunch,
Matt(AkumaMax)
I used Advanced Task Killer for a week or so, then heard some saying you shouldn't use a task killer with Android. After reading up a bit on the subject, I came to the conclusion that they are unnecessary and may actually increase battery drain.
There are a ton of great apps. Depends on what you want to do... I would highly recommend LauncherPro for customizing the look of your phone. Camera360 is a great app for adding special effects to your camera images. I use Appbrain.com to browse the market, and it's companion apps Appbrain Market and Fast Web Installer both installed on my phone. This combo allows me to browse their website for apps and click INSTALL on the website to send the app to my phone and install it without me having to do anything else.
Not sure how adventurous you're going to be with modding your phone. It took me about two weeks to build up the courage to root and install a custom ROM. I don't regret it a bit! I installed Cyanogen 6.1 RC1 and then a couple days later RC2 released, so I installed that. Basic benefits of doing this are upgrading from Android 2.1 to 2.2, ability to side-load apps from the SD card, moving apps to the SD card and off the internal phone memory, live wallpaper support, and I'm sure there are plenty more, but that's what hits me off the top of my head.
There's lots of good help on these boards, I've asked plenty of noobish questions and haven't had a single nasty response. Don't hesitate to ask anything that comes to mind... after you search, of course! =)

Oh there is no doubt I want to root the phone. Just for the fact I want my apps off my phone and on my SD card only. I modded my HTC fuze to the fullist but now it's useless. So I can't wait to get back into the game. I know this phone is not the greatest out there but like I said it's something to get me by untill I decide on the Nexus One or maybe an EVO. Anyway I heard that same info about Advanced task killer so I will probibly stay away from that. I just want the ability of my phone to be the best it can be. Hope to see all you soon.

@911Jason man, you're such a pest! Hahahahah j/k
So, I would go against putting all of your apps on the SD card. I've done a lot of research on this, and unless you have a Class 6 or higher card, running apps from the SD are pretty pointless. There is a pretty decent support forum around, it might take a while to get a reply, but its getting better.
Some of my favorite apps:
Launcher Pro Plus
PowerAmp
Audio Manager Pro
Dolphin HD Browser
ChompSMS

Who me?! What'd I say?
Tasker is the one app I couldn't go without. Use it to automate settings such as WiFi, volumes, brightness. Make your own widgets, automatically send SMS messages. Look for the google group. The developer is there and provides great support.

Just wanted to say hi 2.
For all those with sgs2 try villainrom with nymphetamine 2.0.1 kernel.
It works great and for a heavy user like myself I must say the battery life is the best ever.

Remember this is the Aria forum...
saying hi, need ten post to ask stuff on cyanogen forum.
hello akumamax, welcome. i have had my aria for about a year now and i love this phone with cm7. there are so many good apps out there but the three things that stands out for me are:
1) amazon app store. there's a free pay app every day, and its yours to keep.
http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b/ref=sa_menu_adr_app4?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011
2) s2e. this app is awesome and its free. been using it for about 6 months now and it has been flawless.
https://market.android.com/details?id=ru.krikun.s2e&feature=search_result
3) get s off… you'll need it.

good luck with your aria, enjoy

Wow this thread is pretty old. I haven't had my Aria for a good 6 months. I've moved onto the Dell Streak 5.

Yes I still have the Aria. It's my backup in case my Dell streak 5 doesn't make it.
What are you guys using to view images on your device? i am using root explorer to browse around my sd card, but whenever i try to open an image, it launches the gallery, and it either freezes or crashes.
Any Suggestions?

Yeah, best so far.
Fish Bowl
Huge fan of Fish Bowl. I'm a photographer so I end up with thousands of pictures (it's nice to have a portable portfolio when meeting new clients) and Fishbowl has an interface that basically just makes one big image card for each of my galleries so I can swipe through hundreds of pics fast and click on the one I am looking for.
Only downside is it's not multitouch but doesn't affect use really, just trips me up sometimes when comming from other apps. The last time I sent an email off to the Dev he had my suggestion in the next build a few days later so I feel guilty asking for multitouch now when it's already a really good app.

I'm a photographer too and use my Nook often to show proofs and sell shots. Thanks for the tip on Fish bowl, I'll give it wirl. Do you find it can reproduce decent quality jpegs fast? I do resize my shots appropriately for the Nook, but of course I want the best resolution possible. I have found Quick decent and I prefer the 3D Gallery's interface but not the speed or quality.
Thanks again for the tip on Fish Bowl, I'll give it a shot.
Edit: Photo Gallery (fish bowl beta) is sweat! Just about knocked my socks off, a great recommendation.
Yeah I had the same reaction when I saw Fish Bowl the first time too. I was pretty sure I was going to have to buy an iPad just to get a presentation system that looked polished and ran silky smooth but this app just does what I need it to. Now I'm thinking I'll pick up a Asus Transformer with the larger, higher resolution and great viewing angle screen and be able to show even bigger pictures without having to shovel money into Apples coffers.
wow thanks for the suggestions i tried just pictures, and quick pic last night they seemed to work well. im very interested in fishbowl now.
Fishbowl is awesome. Thanks guys
I'm an Solitaire Spider addict, so I wrote one for myself.
Here is market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.solitairespiderhd
The app was only tested on Transformer and in emulator and it's my first application on this platform, so I'm a little worried if I didn't make some mistakes. On Xoom it should work without problems, though.
UNDO is under back button, to move cards you have to drag and drop (I considered other methods but that seemed most natural). It should work also on smaller tablets but I have to test it more.
All feedback appreciated.

This is a great game. However, after playing for a while when I restarted a game the cards started stacking behind each other not on top.

Thanks for the information. I'll try to repeat this bug and fix it as soon as possible.
edit: I published a new version that should have this bug fixed - but it requires more testing.

Just a another question. It doesn't affect gameplay but the pics next to the New Medium and New Hard games don't match the suites played. New Medium shows all 4 suites and New Hard shows only 2 suites.

Also, are you able to disable the screen rotation or prevent the game resetting if you accidentally rotate the screen? Hope these suggestions are helpful.
Cheers
Thanks for suggestions. I'll fix the bugs after weekend. Saving game state is in plans (and I have to do something with rotating screen, I forgot to test how it behaves then).
Solitaire Spider had some updates since my last post. Meanwhile I made another, more complicated game - https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.memoryowlhd - Memory Owl HD. Check it out.
Just downloaded very nice game thanx
I just got some bad notes for my games - it really hurts. I hope people would add a review with information why they gave one star. The only explanation I got on one game was "it doesn't work on my phone" with no crash report, and no information on what phone.
Well, the question is - what should I fix in the Solitaire to make it better? It doesn't work fine on small phones, but I don't think I could fix that without, well, writing a new one (this is designed with tablets in mind) - I also don't want to block such devices, because well, for some it might work... Or maybe I should block normal screens?
What solitaires you like the best? I'm going to make a few others soon probably. Right now am working on Klondike, but don't know which are most popular... Aisle Riots maybe?
I made Klondike: https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.klondikesolitairehd
And FreeCell: https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.freecellhd
I'm working on a new Spider version similar to this FreeCell - with better cards for small phones and better usage of the screen estate. I'll post more info soon.

If you are asking, I found this game called 40 thieves and would love a cleaner looking version of that. Thanks for asking
Looks interesting like a mix between Spider and Klondike. I added it to the list, thanks.
Thank you. Let me know if you need a tester.

What is the best app to take notes in class with? I'm looking for something that I can draw notes with, as well as type with... mainly something I can use during my math classes so I'd have to be able to draw out things like (dx/dy)(X^e^3 + (5/3)X^2) into something easy to look at. And I'd also like to be able to save it into a printable format. Any recommendations?
Try the SNote app available in this forum. It has a formula button which recognizes math formula .... though i dont think it can be put into a printable format...
I don't really care if it recognizes what I'm writing, as long as a can draw something in the same space as I'd be able to type it into... And I'd have to be able to save my notes as a PDF or some other easily recognizable/ printable format.
Try handrite and handraw from the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsIm15LmhhbmRyaXRlIl0.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLmhhbmRyaXRlLnNrZXRjaCJd
LectureNotes is also pretty good:

While that is true, that's not really useful information for Some_Biker or pertaining to his initial question.
There's bunches of handwriting recognizer note apps in the play market. example quill, handrite ,FreeNote, etc.
If it doesn't need to recognize writing I much prefer Evernote for its vast variety of formats it can export and the cloud sync across devices and desktop
Also Evernote can ingest handwritten notes
see this for Handrite, and how the inclusion of a share feature makes it easy to send handwritten notes to Evernote using an Android tablet
