Transcriber - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm new to this touchscreen and have been playing with the "Transcriber" which lets you write text with the stylus (or your finger) and the phone recognises it and turns it into letters/numbers.
I'm trying (without success) to make my own gesture for the * symbol.
I use this symbol a lot and want to create a very simple gesture that will display this symbol.
Can someone please assist me?

Some clever person here must be able to answer my hopefully simple query??

There is a gesture built in for the * already, but you need to be in number mode to enter symbols. Click the "a" in the menu bar at the bottom until it changes to "123". To see how to write letters and symbols click the handwritten "L" on the menu bar and scroll through until you get to the letter or symbol you want to use and click the samples shown see the order of strokes you need to make.

"esc" key

Does anyone know how to emulate the "esc" key on a wizard?
I have a DOS based legacy app at work, and while I have been able to get logmein to work fine on my 8125 to control everything else I need to be able to use this one program and I cannot unless I can use "esc" to go backwards. Any ideas?
maybe u can assign a hard button to the esc with this one?

Here's the solution...
PQzII -- http://nicque.com/pqz/PQzII.htm
Under settings go to the "Code" tab, allows you to set IN code whatever you want and set OUT code to be ESC.
I'm a big fan of this FREEWARE! Also allows setting a key for CTL and/or ALT, better caps/num lock indicator (off, on, lock), not to mention key launch of apps, settings, phone numbers, task bar, symbol window ...
NOTE: be sure to install the Wizard-specific version! Read the install directions!
if you're using pocket quake, just use "recorder" key (press it long)
vladimyr, pqzii is not pocket quake...if that is what u meant...

Wow! Thanks for the tip. that is a great program. I just started playing with it but it seems that it could replace Smartskey. Of course, even though there is a GUI the documentation is a little sketchy so it took me a little trial and error but I got it to do what I needed...
I would highly recommend this to anyone that likes customizing their phone.
I have two questions that I could not seem to resolve on their web site
1. Where do you find the .bmp files it looks for to use as an icon? I am getting a white square which works okay since I will only use it now and again.
2. In the program they reference a CTRL and ALT keys that I am pretty sure are hard keys on the keyboard since you can assign them but I am not sure which actual keys they are. Any ideas?

Wing hidden shortcut keys

I made a write-up on the Wing's hidden shortcut keys.
A few weeks ago while I was typing up my on-site notes at work, on my T-Mobile Wing the device threw me a tilde (~). This confused me because this device doesn't have a tilde key and I wasn't working in the symbol keypad. About two weeks later I was able to get the device to type another symbol that isn't shown on the keyboard, thankfully I was texting and not at work, so after a few minutes of experimenting I was able to chart all of the alternate keys that are available on the Wing.
So what is the T-Mobile Wing? The Wing is a Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone that has a sliding keyboard, WIFI, bluetooth, and Microsoft Voice command built in. Voice command lets you perform certain tasks by voice without a training session like most phones with voice control require. Price was $299 at launch.
Chart of alt keys and instructions after the jump.
Pressing the alt key on the left of the chart (shown in blue on the keypad) while still holding alt and then pressing the space bar will give you the symbol on the right of the chart, pressing space multiple times while still holding alt will give you the other symbols on the chart. The number keys and the other keys not listed don't respond to this function.

Obviously a few of these keys just duplicate existing functionality, but some of them are very useful and if you use some of these symbols regularly they can save you loads of time using alternate methods to get these symbols.
I am a manual reader and didn't see this information listed in the manual. (I just double checked to be sure). This information is not in the manual.
Pressing alt tab brings up a useful symbol panel. This symbol panel is similar to the charmap function of a windows computer, and contains several pages of symbols that you can insert into your text.
Update:
Thanks to blackout203 @ XDA Developers, while they were trying this out they found out about the multiple keypresses.
actually this is a nice find but I just found something from learning yours
if you press the space key more than once, you can get even more symbols! try it out
i got << and >> on the " key
Thanks, I've updated the article and the posting.
btw - on wizard devices you could choose the ranking of the symbols by editing the sym.txt. DOn´t even know if herald alos has a sym.txt. But perhaps someone could give it a try.
lol
sym.0409.txt
yes, the "sym" file is present in herald too. the name of the file is "sym.0409.txt" for WWE version (T-Mobile Wing)
Nice, but I want the space character when entering numbers
So that explains why when I am entering phone numbers and addresses and I want to put in spaces, the space key doesn't work! I've found this incredibly frustrating because i have to double-press the ALT key to get in in ALT mode, type a bunch of numbers, press the ALT key to get out of ALT mode, press the space bar, double-press the ALT key to get back into ALT mode, then continue on with the numbers.
Do you know if there is a way to get the space key to put in a space while in ALT mode??
i found the sym.tct file on my herald in the folder /windows.
However i can't edit it since the file is located in the ROM memory.
how can I change the properties of the file such that I can edit it?
I already tried setting the permissions through total commander, but that doesn;t work I can't remove the read-only setting

try to rename or copy it and edit the copy - then copy back. somehow it worked.
hope

um...damn..

out of nowhere...when im in landscape mood...i type in the 10 digit number im about to send a text to..then i hit the D pad down...and no nothing happens...it always would scroll down to the text box and then i would start typing now i just stays in the box where i insert the phone number...
any fix =\
I'm assuming you've checked it isn't just a case of the d-pad no longer following the screen orientation? As in if you press what has become 'left' on the d-pad, the cursor focus doesn't helpfully go down a line as you need?

Shortcuts

Hi, maybe some one knows if there is any way to make shortcuts
as an example to make ß [ALT225] or just a ^_^... or???
.... it seems a looong way to find them down in symbols, if you write a text in a note or a Word doc.
in my old HP HW6515, ther was 2-3 symbols "behind" each direct symbol on 1 key.
Hope anyone can help
Thanks, Tomasmj
For the most commonly used ones you can just press the "fn" button and it will place the symbol behind it (ie the one in blue on the hardware keyboard)

Tips...

-(Typing)
-Spot editing
Typo troubles? Press and hold a text box until the large cursor appears, then drag it to the problem spot.
-Pop-up punctuation
Press and hold the peroid (.) key to see a pop-up menu with other popular punctuation marks.
-Quick fix
Press a misspelled word to see suggestions from the built-in dictionary. Press a suggestion to swap it in.
-(Browsing)
-When pinning a web page to the start screen, on the page zoom in to whatever you want the tile to show.
-When browsing on any web page, you can hit the menu dots (...) >hit find on page >Type any word you want and it will find that word and highlight it for you.
-When browsing on any web page you can highlight any word >hit search and it will search that word for you on your browser.
-(Music)
-You can pin your playlist on the start screen for quick play of your music.
-(Voice Search)
-Voice search any movie out rite now and it will show you a list of all theaters showing the movie and next show time.
-(Visibility)
-the white background gives you better visibility of the screen when your outdoors in daylight. (Also white background wont waist more battery than the black background)
-Tap and hold on the "&123" button while typing to bring up the secondary keyboard, slide your finger to the desired special character, and release. The character will be input and the primary keyboard will return automatically. Useful for quick punctuation, numbers, etc.
