Newbis question, just about to get G1 - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all
just been reading a few of the posts around and have a few questions
i am about to get the G1 and i will be needing to use it with a different provider, i think i say a post before about unlocking by donating here, but cant find the details, how is best to unlock?
also once unlocked should i then gain root access following the guide here, aswell i have seen that the bootloader from the ADP1 has been dumped, can the be flashed to the G1 thus making the G1 a adp1?
does the adp1 have full root even after upgrades, or would you have to the the rooted upgrades?
what would be the process of changing the G1 to a ADP1 clone, if thats possible?

My first question to you is... Why do you want to put ADP1 on your phone?

Unless you are a current T-Mobile customer you much have to buy an unlock code. There are a few sites on Google and some stuff you can find in here on that.
Also check out the dude's edition and haykuro's builds of Android. You would probably enjoy those a bit more than ADP1.1.

so i should follow the guide to root, install hardspl then flash with one of the above builds? will doing any of this relock the phone?

Yup read this first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
And no it will not relock your phone, youre good to go.

Has anyone CID ulocked and had it not void the warranty

Ive been looking for a while and no one is actually sure about voiding the warranty. Has anyone done it and sent it in? Can some one explain about cid unlocking a little. Reading the other posts just gets me (and im sure others) confused

Let me make it simple... CID Unlock voids your warranty. period. The question comes in that when you try to do warranty work is whether they will notice or not. I've heard some say they don't, and others have said they do. So in a nutshell, just understand that you ARE VOIDING your warranty. You may or may not be "caught" though if you try to get warranty work, but you made the decision to do something that voids it, so you have to live with that choice.

If you can't read and understand this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
then you have no business doing this procedure. Dr. P has written an excellent post that takes you through the process step by step. Very simple and even tells you what to look for as you do it. There is no point trying to explain it further as it would be the exact same post as Dr. P's since it lays it out step by step in full detail.
ok, thank you.
now just one last question, i have upgraded to the newest tmobile rom, and i read somewhere that by doing that it unlocks somthing, did i read wrong?

I'm not aware of installing the newest (2.26?) TMobile ROM unlocking anything. You need to do the CID Unlock procedure and then finish by installing a rom like the TMobile 2.26 official rom. But jsut installing this rom doesn't unlock anything, just gets you to a current stable base to work off of for doing custom roms (very important step that too many people seem to be skipping).

[Q] Unlocking Bell I9000M With Froyo JL2 on it

I'm leaving for Europe in a week and would like to take my phone with me and use a pay-as-you-go sim card when I get there.
Anyone try unlocking this phone with the most recent JL2 on it? If so, would you mind giving me a complete step by step on how to do it?
I've read the Unlock thread, but there are so many methods and tweaks people have done, its all confusing. Either I'm not reading it correctly or I'm just not understanding it. I've seen change numbers to this or that to get it to work with Rogers, but is that a complete unlock?
Please provide me with a step by step.
P.s. my phone is completely stock, no root or anything if that helps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Well,
As you can see I'm very weary about doing anything to this phone, seeing as I just got it replaced after a drawn out discussion/argument with Bell.
If no one can tell me the exact procedure on JL2, then I'm going to leave it well enough alone. I'm sure someone will come out with a perfect Unlock apk in the future just as they did with JH2. But for now, I'll sit and wait unless someone knows.
Afterall, Bell wants $75.00 to unlock it. I could go to Europe and probably pay less than that for a Pay-As-You Go model.
Keep up the good work developers.
I'm pretty sure there's no way (easy or lock) to unlock any Froyo builds right now, sorry.
That Unlocking software does not work on 2.2+ ?
I thought it was simply extracting some info off the phone?
If not you can always make a backup , flash to JH2.
Follow that unlocking guide, which does a SIM Unlock.
So it's unlocked forever.
Just a question about unlocking, does it void the bell warranty? Maybe I should just extract the code now and I can use it later once my warrenty is up? once i extract the code i should be able to use it no matter what firmware i'm on in the future right?
Ok, so from what I'm reading on here it can't be done with JL2.
Now my question is, can I load JH2 on this thing, grab the unlock codes, then use the same lock codes after JL2 is reinstalled?
Furthermore, are these unlock codes only good for going to Rogers or will the phone work in Europe with the same unlock code?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
I was on 2.1 when I unlock my bell..
I upgraded to jk4 2.2
Is still unlock...
Seems like updating firmware doesnt lock the phone

[Q] Partially Bricked HD7 / Cotulla's HSPL installed

So,
Here is what happened, I've got an HD7 that has been laying around my office for months, it was actually never used and it has never been updated.
Unfortunately I lost my previous phone and I decided to use that one, but... It was carrier locked to T-Mobile and I did not want to either purchase or beg t-mobile for a code.
Next thing I did was to carefully read every post I could find regarding HD7 carrier unlocking and found myself with only one option: Install a custom ROM on my phone.
The phone had the SPL 1.20 so I decided to install Cotulla's HSPL and then install a Custom ROM, but it failed twice to flash the device, once at 20% and then at 80%.
Right now the Phone goes right into the bootloader screen (It does show cotulla's HSPL as installed) after a short load atempt (obviously the OS is only partially installed).
Im looking forward to get advise on how to install the custom ROM and what I might be doing wrong.

well if you can get to the bootloader screen...why don't you install a custom ROM using Task29 ?? that should work...
Well, I tried to install the factory ROM but it fails as well, it always gets stuck at some point beyond 80%.
I was able to install Deepshining ROM, but the sim lock remains... I guess I will have to buy an unlock code. ¿Can someone tell me what is the site site to buy one?

You don't have to buy the unlock code. Call T-Mobile, ask for technical support (bypass customer service, it will take too long), and request the unlock code. Have the IMEI # for your phone available. They will email the unlock code to you usually within 24-48 hours. I did this last month and got the code the same day.

Is it possible to root on 5.1.1

T-Mobile just pushed out the 5.1.1 update this morning and I hopped on it instantly. I was just wondering is it possible to root my phone in its current state (23.4.A.0.580) or do I have to downgrade and then upgrade again? This is my first real phone and I want to debloat it and get AdAway and all of the other fun Android stuff to get the best experience. I still have a 1.5 year warranty and from what I read unlocking my bootloader will void that. Are there any methods/guides to root my phone, downgrade, root, then upgrade again, etc. without unlocking my bootloader? Thanks in advance!

Start here

And use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
And please read the thread even if its very long - all questions regarding rooting are ask and answered already...
I'm also quite new on this phone - But after reading this (the OP and thread!), you'll know everything needed!
But to answer your queston: You have to go back to KK to do initial rooting...

Need simple Help with directions on proceeding to root and flash rom

Okay, so I may ask quite a dumb question, because I do not want to proceed to soft/hard brick my device
but I am not too dumb, So far I have rooted and flash many sony devices and one Asus + Mi device
I did research on HTC, learned about S-off, will be glad to google futher or watch youtube vid that is not in english to follow/learn the correct way
So just that It won't be hard to explain me
Just that, I have HTC Desire 626s T-Mobile device,
and it is sim locked, But bootloader unlocked,
What I want end result is, I prefer having a custom rom, with google play compatibility and without bloatware, so maybe CM roms are best, with root functionality, and I do not care much about Security, but keeping it off seems better,
There are just soo many tools out there, to unlock boot loader, flash twrp, and ROMs
So I'm confused, as some threads have title like for AT&T, Sprint, I don't know if those will work for me, if I flash/follow Sprint's instruction for T-Mobile device that I own, I may end up bricking a device which is not much in development right now
So is there any proper way/thread/method/video/guide I may follow from start to end with either custom or stock(with bloatwares removed) ROM with SIm Unlocked, S-off, and Root
