Diamond too hot during call - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I can't use my phone for 5-10mins as it gets too hot. I am oblige to use speaker or ears phones as my face gets fried. The culprit seems to be a component on the left side of the sim card (transmiter?). The phone is working perfectly, no lockups so far. Currently using AZTOR X2 ULTIMATE.

Try changing radio versions. You might have to try several different radios to see which one works best for you. This thread has plenty to try.

It's definetely a good idea to try the different Radios. Make sure you do your testing in the same location as signal strength plays a role here.
If changing the Radio does do it. Which in few cases, like myself include, it did nothing a switched Roms as a test and that did it. Keep in mind, there may be other varialbes at play here but the big 2 are Radio and ROMs. Sometimes the chef recommends a radio for there rom but even then, the heat may still come. Keep trying different combo's.

IMHO, I would not purchase that thing. I think I got my GPS working perfectly, a little testy at times to catch a fix, but once it starts it works great.

Agreed, but many people have no idea just how difficult it is to figure out how to get a gps fix. I am not too sure how the Kaiser acts but with the Tilt it can be a hassle, especially after flashing a new rom.
I get better GPS reception from my house than phone reception
ok thanks =) saved me $30
Almost needed at times
I have almost considered the external antenna at times but then I would replace the phone first too. I guess not many people rely on GPS that much with this phone. I cannot upgrade to any newer 6.1 roms because I lose my very fast cold fix times for satellites. I really enjoy the gps and the newer roms but had to choose functionality first. Try different radios and roms if you have the patience to see what works best for you. Ive heard some users say this is more of a tilt problem than a TYTNII problem but I have a tilt so I cannot say for sure, but my gps just doesnt work as well with the newer roms. Hope this helps

automatic resend of failed sms

Is there any way to configure automatic sms resend?
I've found that if the message is not send due to coverage conditions or simply by failure, then it stays that way until you manually resend it.
If windows mobile does not include this, then, is there any app that will help me out with this?
Thanks!
this is my problem too..
It's a great point. I would also love to see a fix for this. Nokia N95 and others work well by rescheduling unsent messages for 5 minutes later.
I've been searching for ages but haven't found a way to do this yet.
Would be really handy if this was possible.
Agreed, I'm used to this on every single phone I've had and was shocked when I discovered a whole folder full of unsent when I got this phone - particularly after insisting to people I had sent the messages!
So we all agree the diamonds signal is crap? lol
i have just got my diamond and not yet been to my place of work with it looks like i am going to get this problem as the signal is already crap
gary
One thing I have found with the diamond is that holding your hand over the ariel (the top rear of the phone) really does make a difference!
Hope this helps you a little
You guys should try and test out some different radios. Check the Radio thread in ROM Development.
I tried them all and .07 is best for me, but that might not be best for you depending on your carrier, etc. Some radios give better reception but might chew your battery more, I guess it's a tradeoff (maybe).
I think once you find the best one for you it will be all good. I think the Diamond reception is fine!! I don't really have any problems with it.

Actually you're quite right, I remember someone giving me that advice before, just too lazy to get round to doing it
I agree it would be nice to have the resend SMS feature, I've had a good look around, and it seems it's only solved with 3rd party products..

I have been messing around with GPS for the last 3weeks...got some problem at 1st but i think the problem is solved with htc GPS tools.im currently using .08 as i heard some good things about it.but then again some ppl have been advising me to use .05 and .07.im quite confused now.i try the 2 radio before but it was during the time im having issues with getting a fix,now im tempted to flash back to .05 or .07...any suggestion guys?

yup i know there is a thread on radio but mine will focus on GPS performance bro
IMO 08 is the best for GPS.
I do agree : 1.25.00.08 for me too
.08 is certainly the fastest cold start. but i dont know if that makes it the best. i do use it tho.

seems most accurate too (South UK)
how about anyone from asia?or even singapore?
i'm on 07 and i get a fix wthin 5-7 seconds with gpscycle 2
although at times gpscycle fails to get a fix, but that can be dealt with by soft resetting the fone....i think its some s/w problem....seems like the s/w cant get to open the com port
so far i have test .05,.07 and.08....05 seems the most accurate but fixing takes up to 1min sometime longer...

EDIT: Sorry, found it, search *is* my friend
I confirm... I come from 2 whole months of 07 + 08, now I'm testing bs14 version from some days and it seems very impressive. Just some doubts about battery draining... let's see next days
bye,
davide
to be honest, if you use your phone more than a couple of times a day (like most people), then the battery is ****e no matter which radio! oooo and extra 10 mins!
i'm getting the 3000 mAh battery when its out at the end of the month...
over 3x the capacity

I have the 85,000 mAh battery, over 85* the capacity Okay well really I have it plugged into my cigar lighter
On a serious note tho', You say your GPS is no problem and the battery life is ****e, mine has reasonable battery life (although if I'm using GPS it's either plugged into the car or I'm using GPS Cycle Computer which turns off the backlight) and GPS isn't anything like as good as the Artemis?
This device seems much more variable in quality than my previous O2/HTC ones, even the camera quality varies - weeiiirrdd
Kim
yeh, it depends on if you have a original HTC, a T-Mobile... etc etc...
i think a lot depends on ROMs/Radios as well.
Different radios work better/worse for differing regions and providors.....I am using 25.07 (and have tried a few!) as its best for Scotland.....would suggest that you follow what your regional collegues are using as a starting point, and then flash and change (very easy!!) for comparison
Of course then post back to share your results
the latest radio b14 from dutty is amazing!!!i get a fix from cold start in less than 15sec!!!Anyone else have good things to say about tis radio??
My out-of-the-box radio version is 1.02.25.19.
Is this any good? I'm getting fast fixes but lag after 5mins of use (feels like a memory problem with TT7 version 7.450 b9030). Igo8 is just always off by 20M (version 5400).

[Q] New Captivate; update worth it?

I Just recieved my new captivate (sent the other one in for warranty issues) in the mail, and am wondering if it's worth it to upgrade this 100% stock captivate to JH7, or if I should wait for 2.2?
Another suggestion
Upgrade to the Cognition ROM...you get JH7 with a lot of other goodies... http://cognition.theidiotshideout.net/phpmyfaq/index.php?action=show&cat=1
The GPS issue appears to have been resolved with this ROM, and the whole phone seems quite a bit snappier.

Major thanks.
+1 for the Cognition ROM... I have had my device 2 days now and the first thing I did on night #1 was blow away all that ATT and Samsung [email protected] and load Cog.... this ROM rocks... super fast for me. No telling when 2.2 will be baked enough on our devices for me to use it as my daily driver.... weeks maybe....
Flashed Cognition 2.1; Works wonderfully, sans GPS... This phone is turning out to be a real debbie downer in that department.
My GPS has been somewhat OK.... for the 3 times I used it, it was pretty darn close. It drifted a little when driving highway speeds, but crap, close enough for me most times. I think my phone is a late build... I waited for a while to pick one up due to the glass shortage that occurred earlier... curious, can we tell when our units left the factory, and if so, I wonder if they are coming out with different GPS chips on them?
One last thought - did you do a batt pull once your new ROM was in place? Just shooting off ideas... I hope it starts working better for you... I am really liking this phone compared to my Bold 9000.

I've never gotten a lock with either of my Captivates; What do you mean by a battery pull? Just lug the battery out of the phone while it's running and put it back in? I'm curious as to how that would be beneficial to GPS. (I've done a reset, but that's about it)

Yes, exactly. Pull the battery out, wait for a minute, put it back in and reboot. In many cases, this has (for me) fixed weird little issues after ROM updates etc. I have no evidence that this would affect the GPS in your case, but I thought I'd mention any tips/methods that have helped me in the past.
Yeah a battery pull usually solves a lot of issues when upgrading roms...I've had t so that twice.

[ROM-FIX] CM 6.xx, Ruby 1.1.1 and Shadowrom Radio and Wifi - Drops and Reboots Fix

Latest Cyanogenmod nightly number 97 (10/3/2010) has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch if you are running it or a newer one.
Back Story
Long story short, the Chinese group Miui mananged to get / build (not really sure) a new Radio Interface Layer for our HTC devices... I pulled this file out of the Nexus one build that they released and it works perfectly. Link to the Nexus1 version
Over in the Nexus one forum a few people have questioned where this Chinese group got some of the files they're using, as they're really bleeding edge (at least thats what they say in the N1 forum). This newer / different RIL file seems to fix the issues we're facing with random phantom reboots while wifi is on. Also included in this is the issue where the signal bars show an "x" for a second or two after connecting to a wifi hotspot. Also fixed are issues where the radio signal drops before / after receiving a call that plagues AOSP builds (ruby and CM for sure).
Cyanogenmod 6.xx
This works on the 6.xx versions as well as the Nightlies.
NOTICE: As of Oct 2nd this has been "committed" so I assume the nightly that comes out this evening will have the fix built in. Check it out
Latest nightly number 97 has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch.
Ruby 1.1.1
This works for Ruby. If you are wanting the BT Media Streaming audio fix as well, please see this thread. They are two separate installs.
Shadowrom
It has been confirmed that this also works for Shadowrom.
Bugs
I honestly don't know of any yet... but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Only a handful of us have been testing this thing out on the inc so far. Figured more people might want to check it out.
Credit
I take no credit for the fix. The Miui group built/got it(not sure which), I simply happened to be playing around with some files and noticed the side effects. Thanks again to Jermaine for letting me know more about the rom (and the fact that they weren't plagued by our reboot issues) in the first place so I could start digging...
Of course thanks go out to the entire ruby and cyanogenmod teams, without them we wouldn't have these fun roms. Lastly, IncredibleDoes for doing the Inc port of miui that opened our eyes to it.
Installation
- Download the file and place it on your SD card.
- Load up Rom Manager and hit "Install rom from SD card," select the file.
- I'd probably make a nandroid backup if you haven't recently just in case... no wipe has been needed.
Disclaimer
If this messes up your phone, not my fault Was tested by about 30 people so far, and no issues that we've seen. Please make a nandoid backup just in case.
THIS IS FOR AOSP roms listed above ONLY. Please do NOT install it on any sense based roms.

Isn't this just cosmetic? Or because the phone is switching from 3G to 1x? I've never dropped a call while toggling WiFi on...

Not that I can tell... so far the mere fact that the wifi isn't causing reboots anymore is the main reason I'm putting this out there...
anything else is just gravy.

I really dont believe its the wifi. Its when the 3g turns on or off when the issues happen, which is when you leave or enter a wifi area. I turned 3g off and didnt use it for 2 days with wifi on the whole time with no reboots. I've have the lockup with just 3g on as others have noted. Also I believe that the lockups and the reboots are a separate issue. I have yet to see where any dev said it was the wifi directly, and with the known issues of 3g+froyo it points to 3g not wifi.
So, if you turn wifi off and are in a good 3g area then you will unlikely lose 3g much if at all, but if you have signal issues then the reboots still exist.
If we are going to find out what the problem is we need to setup test groups.
1 - no wifi, no 3g
2 - no wifi, 3g on
3 - wifi on, no 3g
4 - wifi on, 3g on
Make sure everyone is using the same rom/radio.

That's a possibility, but I think I'm in a good 3G area, and the majority of my movements are in a pretty small geographic area. I'll get reboots when my phone is just sitting on a table or in my pocket though in an area w/ strong signal.
Make sure everyone is using the same rom/radio.

I think what we'd really need is for the testers to check all 4 combinations. There's too much geographic variance to have a bunch of different people testing these combinations unless some lived very close to each other.
