ADP builds of Android do not have TMobile apps such as Amazon MP3. This has been discussed ad nauseum if you had bothered to search.

It's a protected app. If you need it that bad that I suggest you go back to an RC build and do research before blindly flashing whatever build of Android is at the top of the forum.

If you still have the RC firmware you can just unzip it copy the amazon apk out and install it into the adp the amazon works. I dont think anyone has the IM app working though

We should have an official rc update from tmobile real soon, which will have amazon mp3, myfavs, etc...

Just open a RC33 update.zip and extract the file from /system/app. Then you can install it by adb push.

Verified as working. I just added it to the app folder of Dudes 1.1 build and then did the update and it works just great. Purchased and downloaded a song to verify.

Here it Is
http://droiddeveloper.com/com.amazon.mp3.zip
enjoy it works for me...

Really Bad,
In Germany it cannot charge my creditcard... It has enough money on it.

I have the dude's 1.5 version, and cant seem to get it running. It forces closed upon trying to open. Any thought? It is saved to my SD in the app folder.
TIA

Read my guide

TY SolemnWishing, this is how I got the app on my SD card to begin with - yours is a very helpful thread for a n00b like me. Unfortunately, I was never able to get the app to open. I am not sure how I could have messed it up - pretty simple, I navigate to the app folder on my SD and click the apk file which proceeds to install Amazon MP3. No go.
If you have any ideas on what the problem might be I would appreciate the input.
Thanks again for your great tutorial

Hmm... I assume you deleted the .zip and renamed it to .apk, what firmware are you using?

I am using firmware 1.5. Yes I renamed to apk. I wants to work, just force closes before it fully loads. I also have this problem with oi music player. It used to work, now no longer loads. I wonder if my SD card is the problem. It is 8 gb, but I am sure only like a class 2 card.

Strange. I have JF 1.5 and installed the Amazon app the normal way for any app on the G1 and have rebooted several times. The app still works. I thought if you did not push the app to the G1 it would need to be reinstalled each time you reboot the device?

Well, I am pretty positive it was my SD card - after writing my post this morning I pulled the SD card and have not been anble to get the phone back since. This thread pretty accuratly describes what is going on...long story short, i think I fried my SD card and as a result am stuck on Splash 2. I have wiped several times...

uggg...all for mp3's!!!! any thoughts and lots of luck would be appreciated.

Ahh I did the same thing. Here is what you need to do, you will need to force format it. Windows will NOT detect the card, and it may even freeze your computer. Put the phone into another device, such as a palm pilot or another cell phone and format it from there. It shouldn't take very long, and when it is completed, it will likely say the memory card only has 5Kb or so of memory on it. NOW insert the card into your computer and reformat it into a FAT32 format (+Ex2 for apps to SD) and you should be good! Of course, you will need to reload all your files though. That will fix your SD card. As for your phone... you will need to completely reflash a new firmware onto it, as right now starting up your phone is looking for items on your SD card which it may need, which no longer exist.
edit: if that doesn't work, completely start from the beginning by flashing the dreamimg.nbh file for rooting.

I was able to reformat the SD card, lost all my backups of course, and had to reflash dreaming.nbh and start from scratch. No biggy, at least i still have my phone.
thanks for all the tips...once i get my card re-partioned, I will try the Amazon.apk again.
K

I got it to load - thanks for all your help.

No problem at all, glad I could help.

Can't Access Installer

I have been trying to install android to NAND on my bell Vogue with no success. I had an early build of MYN's rom installed but I switched back to WM for a while because of battery life issues with android. Now that those issues have been taken care of I would like to switch back to android permanently.
I have been following all of the directions that I have read, but cannot seem to access the installer menu. I have tried holding down volume up, center d-pad and touching the middle of the screen and none of them will work.
I am coming from NFSFAN's latest WM rom with the radio fully updated. I am flashing the most recent Vogue images that I can find and it still doesn't seem to work.
Is there something that I am doing wrong? is there an alternative method to get a permanent install of android?
Thanks!

So what do you see when it starts up? Do you see tux and scrolling text?
yes i see all the text, but after it tells me to hold the center button to enter the menu it just continues along and tries to load android (which is not yet installed) and so it fails.
thanks for the reply!

try this - do a pinhole (soft) reset, then just after you feel the double buzz, give a good tap in the middle of the screen and hold it.
Ok, Will do. I will try that again... I have tried the middle of the screen before and I have tried holding from as early as right after boot to as late as right when it gives the hold message.
Still no luck... Does anybody else have any ideas as to what might be going wrong?
Also, would it be possible to run via haret and then install to nand somehow?
I tried to install to SD card and I still could not access the installer!
All of my buttons work, but for some reason they are not getting me into the installer. I think this issue started about the time they switched to holding center D-pad instead of volume up.
could I just use an old Vogue img file?
looking for any other ideas!
Thanks

What method of install are you using norootfs or the old way
I have been using norootfs. I have never used sqsh would it be possible to install that way?
EDIT: I am trying the SQSH method, but it seems like this is not a permanent install, is that correct? I would really like to be able to run android permanently.

What files do have in the andboot folder
When I was trying to install to NAND all I had in the andboot folder was the androidinstall.tar
when trying the SD card install I used all of the files included in MYN's download.
i am using an 8gb microsd HC card formatted FAT32 which I think is what it is supposed to be.

you don't have haret or a nbh file in the andboot folder
when trying to install to NAND I have no Haret (I don't think it is required) and in that case the NBH is flashed to the phone, but not on the SD card
when trying to install to SD i have Haret in the andboot folder, but no NBH.

Damn try downloading another version of haret to see if that will help
I have been trying all sorts of different versions. Most recently I have tried to install incubus26Jc's superfroyo RLS10 to no avail. Whatever I do I simply cannot get to the installer menu! I have tried holding center d-pad, volume up, camera and the middle of the touchscreen. none of these seem to work for me. Is there anything else I can try or does anybody know a reliable way of flashing to nand without the noMoRootFS method?
thanks!

[Q] Can't seem to do sideload 1.0.1 update

So I downloaded the 1.0.1 update. It is a zip file and appears to be valid (I can open it and see the files inside).
I plug my NC into the PC and two drives show up. One is the internal storage and the other the SD card I added to the NC.
I place the zip file for the update into the root of the internal storage as the instructions on the Nook support site say. Then I do a safe remove which causes the NC drives to disappear from the system. I unplug the NC.
It sits there. I wait. It mocks me. I wait some more. It finally goes to sleep. I wait some more. I turn it back on and it isn't updated. I plug it back into the PC and the update file is now gone.
I must be doing something really dumb but can't figure out what it is.

You're are not doing anything wrong, it can take a while. Don't quote me on this but I became impatient and turned my device off after a while then turned it back on and bingo, that did the trick. I'm not sure if that is recommened however so you may want to ask this eithe rin the root thread or wait for a reply here from someone else.
Edit:
Also check out the nook colors irc channel for help, that worked for me when I needed help with my EVO.
irc.freenode.net #nookcolor
Thanks. I tried doing the power off cycle in one of the umpteen iterations I've tried but had the same effect.
Does it matter that I have the Android SDK installed? Can't imagine why as it is up to the Nook to see the update and then apply it.

Is your Nook rooted? I don't think you can apply the update without unrooting...
Not rooted. But I finally figured out what it was. There is something funny about their update zips. Even though the zip file seemed to be fine if looked at in 7-Zip when I did a MD5Sum on it the number was different than what others reported.
So I re-downloaded and then immediately did a MD5 on it. Came out correctly.
So without further mucking with it I copied it to the Nook, ejected, unplugged, put it into Sleep mode, waited a couple minutes and my Nook finally did the update.
In case anyone else comes across this here is the MD5Sum on the 1.0.1 zip update.
2a25b1b63608887800fa97ab681d70f8 *Sideload_update.zip
MD5 is correct for me, file is in the root of my SD card, but it just... doesn't do anything.
Any other ideas?
Whoops. Now I know what it was. It has to be in the root of the eMMC partition ON BOARD THE NOOK, not the SD card.

[Q] Over clocking DIY thread...

I have searched a lot, spent time trying to figure everything out.
I have Hero that I am trying to make BA for my little bro. I have the evo now. Rooted and tethering. Not much else I need to mess with on it. Fast enough for me. But my old hero is now rooted and has the app to tether. I can't figure out how the heck to over clock it. It is slow and I want to kick it up a couple notches for him.
I have searched and all the codes that you guys use at the top throw the searches off, or maybe I am searching for the wrong thing.
Any links to other threads would be great. That way when someone else searches just over clocking like I did it will come to this thread and then link to the useful threads.
Thanks in advanced.
I see you are rooted already, is the phone running a stock rom? If so think about installing [ROM] cyanogenMod 6.1 stable (<<<<search). Then you flash a [Kernel] [GPL] DecaFuct [2.6.29.6] (<<<<search) and install a app called OverClock Widget, it is easier to use than the other one you can use called SetCPU. Thats pretty much it, somebody may chime in that can put a few links up but I am on my phone right now so I cant.
DecaFuct Max 768Mhz Kernel
DecaFyct Max 698Mhz Kernel
Decad3nce's Kernel OP Thread
These are JayBob's CM6.2 ROM Downloads.
Okay, so I need to back up my phone? Can I use the app on the android market MyBackup by Rerwarre, LLC? Then I need to download the files you linked me to in this thread? And then what?
Okay. I am sure you are all tired of hearing from me. But I am going to flash a ROM that has a over clock on it. I have a question tho. When I download the files. It unzips them. By that I mean I can open the folder and explore all of the files. Does this make it impossible to load that ROM? Thanks for your quick responses in advanced.
You dont want the file unzipped. Leave it zipped and put it on the root of SD card, that means just on the SD card, not in another file. Then reboot into recovery by powering phone off, then hold down the power button and the home button at the same time, keep them down until recovery comes on. If a white page comes up instead of recovery that says clear storage, pull battery and try again. Once in recovery you should see a few options. Nandroid, select this by clicking track ball while highlighted, this will back up your current system. After that choose install zip from SD card, then select the rom you loaded on SD card. After is says done, choose reboot system now. Then find Gapps 12-18-2010, I think those are the latest ones. Put them on root of SD like you did the rom and reboot into recovery the same way, choose the install zip from SD and select the Gapp file. Then reboot system amd you will set phone up with google like you did when it was new. You can then install one of the kernels linked for you, I recommend the 768 one, download OverClock Widget from the market and set it to 748, if your phone reboots for no reason lower that to 729, 710, wherever it becomes stable for you.
Okay, I did nandroid, I cleared everything, and I loaded the zip'd file ( I was trying to say earlier it is my mac's default action to un zip the file when it downloads. So I re compressed it. This might be attributing to my later problems) ANd then I rebooted. And it looks and behaves exactly the same as before.
Any pointers or ideas why it did this?

Since you re compressed it, it may need to be resigned before flashing. I could be wrong though
What does resigned mean?
ANybody have any idea why my ROMS arent loading at all?
Not quite sure if this will work on mac, you may need to find a XP pc to do this from. Here is a link to a zip signer though, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805766&highlight=zip+signer
Another thought...
Can you download the rom using the phone, then move file from download folder to root of SD card, using a file manager such as Astro or even better E Strongs File Explorer? I have read where some members have rooted, installed roms, kernels, theme, with no PC at all.
awesome idea on doing it from my phone. I didn't know it was a Mac problem. I can just run boot camp and boot up my mac with windows OS and try it on that. Thanks again.
Okay, i am trying to do it all from the phone. But the file is too large for the phones memory. And I can't figure out how to download righto the SD card. Any pointers here?

use the xda app and navigate to the thread that has the rom you want to install. from there click the link of the rom and it will go to SD card in a file called downloads. after completed plug phone into PC/mac and move that file/rom to root of SD card. Then reboot recovery and flash, done. There are literally 100+ threads on installing a rom, search, read, learn. What recovery do you have installed?
Okay downloading it to my Windows 7 bootcamp worked like a charm. I did the red dawn ROM. Isn't that one already over clocked?

[Q] Just rooted my Nc, have a few questions.

as a new Android user (the Nc is my first android device), im still a bit of a no0b. I just recently rooted using auto-nooter 1.0.1
a few questions, i have though.
before i rooted, my Nc updated itself to 1.1 , i then had to downgrade using stuff i found here. is there anyway i can keep it from updating itself other than turning wifi on/off?
and now that im rooted, this is the one thing that bothered me on stock. but, is there a way i can put other stuff other than B&N stuff on my homescreen? such as books i loaded myself and/or apps i downloaded from the market?
thanks for any help.
also, i use to add books via calibre, now when i add books it sends them to "my files" rather than adds them to the books list, and they dont end up showing on the "keep reading" button.
any ideas?
Congratz! Hope you like your rooted NC.
The first thing you can do is get a replacement laucher. that's the "interface" you interact with.. I recommend you try Zeam. It works very well and it's free. But you could try others such as LauncherPro, GoLauncer, etc.. Be sure to get Home Switcher first. You should be able to get all those from Market. Zeam will allow you to put shortcuts, widgets, and other stuff except folders.. You can also get a clock & weather widget such as Beatiful Widgets to make your homescreen nice and pretty. I also like to remap the Vol keys to back and menu, instead of using Softkeys, but that's up to you..
To prevent your NC from receiving OTA updates, you can look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932506
But I recommend you get Rom Manager then install Clockwork Mod and then update to 1.1 via this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145
Be sure to understand everything you are going to do first, but also rest easy in knowing that it's almost impossible to brick your NC, so worst outcome is that you might lose everything and have to start all over. Once you get Clockwork Mod installed, you can make a "nandroid" backup. It's highly recommended you do that before anything else..
As for the books.. sorry.. I don't use my nook to read books so I'm not familiar with calibre...
Well, enjoy!

Did you use your 16GB with the autonooter? You can regain full use by doing the following:

Or use a free partition manager such as EASUS, http://www.partition-tool.com/ to resize and reformat the partions..

Yes, that's probably the fastest way to do it. Just download the .zip file from a computer into your Nookcolor's micro SD card then boot into Clockwork Mod, either from ROM Manager or by pressing power + n, for 3 seconds after you see the boot up text..
The important thing here is to have ROM Manager and Clockwork mod installed 1st. Then make a backup then install.. select pick .zip from SD card, find the .zip file then flash..
Good luck!

I have a stock NC with 1.1.0 and want to root so I can tweak the cpu and make it work with ad hoc so I can connect it to my phone, but I want to make sure that I can still access tn b&n shop, plus maybe get angry birds or something... ;-)
For rooting 1.1, one quick option is the unofficial auto-nooter 3.0 in the Development forum. I would consult the nook devs website and follow their instructions for version 1.01. They are a bit more clear about how to go about things. Look around at the other options to see if you might prefer them instead.
I don't think auto-nooter will clear your data. Consult the nook devs page to double check.
Auto-nooter will definitely allow you to get angry birds and the like.
Truthfully cannot help you with the rest, sorry.
And thats my first XDA post. I sincerely hope this helped and that I didn't get anything wrong. A little new to this myself, but I wanted to contribute.

If you use the AutoNooter 3.0 it will not Delete anything on your internal memory for your Nook color. However you will need to use a SD card to write the Nooter to and anything on that SD card will be erased so back it up first. you will still be able to use all the features of the Nook Color after rooting Except For the "In Store" Features such as reading a book free for a hour. but syncing your library and buying from the online store will not be effected.
I suggest you leave your nook in stock rom (not root); and get a fast SD card for running froyo latest build. What rooting gives to you are market and admin access. You can have that from froyo.

flash
hi, i installed autonooter 3.0 now and I was wondering if is there anyway to install flash player to work with this rooted version?
I'd rather not spend money on another SD card. I only have a 4GB class 2 (barebones I know) but I do want to keep the stock, but want to adjust the cpu to make things a little smoother and allow the adhoc for my phone as I don't have wirelss at work. Other than that I love my Nook the way it is so no real need for froyo IMO. As for the in-store options..I have never brought my nook into a B&N lol, so I didn't even know there were in-store options lol.
I would suggest a higher class SD Card. There have been "reports" of low class SD cards not working...not sure where these are...but they have the warnings. They are there for a reason.
I like my root with 1.01 BN Update. I am preparing to un root and apply BN Update 1.1 along with AutoNooter 3.0 over the weekend. I am happy with out Froyo and I am still one of the odd balls that still uses this as its intended purpose...an E-Reader lol
AutoNooter 3.0 is build on Android Eclair 2.1...there is no flash support for this OS. If you want flash support, search the forums here Froyo options to get flash.
Good Luck

I too like this as my eReader. I used autonooter 3 last night (on a class 2 card) and all went well. I now have access to the market and my gmail and such...not sure what super user does but it is there lol.
How do I sideload an .apk?
Okay something else weird has happened now. When I click NookColor Tools it just brings me to the regular settings menu...
edit: nm reboot fixed it.
new question....How do I edit permissions for folders and such so I can copy/paste an apk into system\app? I don't have root explorer (that is the apk I am trying to move) and I can't get ADB working...I am using the Free version of Astro Filemanager.
I rooted my 1.1.0 and did not lose anything I had on my Nook. I used AutoNooter 3. I bought a class 4 4gb PNY brand microSDHC with adapter and a USB SD card reader. After the root, I reformatted the microSD card to use for the Nook. I am now debating about changing to Froyo so I can use flash, but I'm still researching.

Are you wanting to install an .apk? If so, just place it somewhere and use Astro to locate and install it.

I tried that but it says "Installation of download apks is not supported"
i have a noob question!
I recently bought a NC and was able to Auto-Nooter 2.12.25 successfully.
My question is this: Where do the Market-downloaded apps go file-wise? I am looking in the free ASTRO file manager but I can't seem to find an apps directory.
Thanks.

They should be under system/apps. Make sure your browsing the Book and not the SD card. You might need Root Explorer. I can see the apps with Astro, but can't do some things to them with root access.

Not sure. I just download an .api and use Astro to access it and it let's me install it. What app(s) are you trying to install?
Did you enable non-market apps in the NookTools?

By fast do understand the sd reader in the nook is rated class 6. Buying a class 10 is a waste of money and can cause problems. I would have mentioned this in the DEV forums but having less than 10 posts elsewhere prevents me from including that information where it is most needed but it should help you.

got all my install problems ironed out...is there a way to get the app links onto the stock B&N 1.1 home screen? and I was trying to install a game "Legends of Arcana" and it can't see the SD card to install it...anyway around that?
edit: oh and one other weird thing...anyone else have weird touchscreen issues when the charging cable is plugged in?
