hi, i have some questions about windows mobile 6 and 6.1. :
1. what actually is the difference between them despite sliding panel and new look in in sms folder?
2. the amount of free ram is more available in 6 or in 6.1,or are the same?
3. I’ve noticed that the windows media player uses much less ram in 6.1 wm that in 6. in 6.1 uses about 1,5mb while in 6 twice or 3 time more. am i right?
4. sometimes while calling, display shows that I’m connected to person i'm calling but i don't hear him. is it the drawback of wm6, or it just because my phone is a bit 'broken'
5. is there any drawbacks about wm 6.1? because I’ve read that internet explorer is not working well?
6. and finally, what is the most meaningful argument to flash to 6.1?

1. That are probably the most important changes in my opinion... You have some general improvements, but threaded sms and sliding panels are by far the most important as far as I remember.
2. I think they are about the same, if not, 6.1 is better. At least does the phone feel much more responsive after flashing it with alkalines wm6.1.
3. I think your right, but I'm normally using coreplayer, it's just so much better...
4. Don't know about that one, works fine with my phone.
5. IE works, but it may struggle because of the Wings lack of ram... my suggestion is to go for Opera, it's way superior, but IE works for normal browsing...
6. More responsive, threaded sms (IMO), sliding panel..makes the Wings a very nice phone...

Having bought the tytn II, and previous owner of the original tytn and many other windows devices i must say there have been absolutely no improvements in the browser, device responsiveness and screen quality (even the VGA screen are not that great).
I've tried umpteen number of different browsers and tweaks but still find issues.
Having used the N95 for a while i have to say the only issue is the RAM and the 3rd party software, but you at least get a flawless browser and the damn thing works when you need it to.
I do like windows simply becauase of all the software available for them but they still haven't sorted out some of the fundamental uses of these pocket pc's.
Thers NO VGA Screen on TYTN2...
And as Browser Use Opera or opera Mini. opera Mini works very good...

what!? it doesnt run windows vista?!
(who wants that ****e anyway
PIE sucks, slow, etc.
Use Opera Mini, but it also is not perfect:
- No file manager (still use PIE to download file)
- Sometimes does not render page correctly (PIE too!)
- Sometimes I cannot click a link
Nothing is perfect
Opera 8.65? Not sure ...
Opera 9.0? It will be released when "TyTn V" out.
opera 8.65 built 2732 is quite good
Having moved from SPV to e200 to c500 to M500 to Jamin to M3100 to Tytn2, I couldn't disagree with the OP more. Whilst the M3100 running the Black WM6 roms was fast and responsive, the Tytn2 is fast straight out of the box with an Orange rom.
I use Opera 8.65. It is a superb mobile browser. With tabs, you can be preopening pages whilst you read another. The only downside is that it won't actually download pages when the app is in the background - which I guess protects people from unknown data usage but is a pain when you are chatting on messenger and trying to post on forums.
PIE won't let me post on my favourite forums at all.
Hi All..
Can you share which one do you prefer?
Touch-IT 5.05 RC2 (OR) Touch-IT 21202 WM6.5 RC1 ?
wat a good question u asked ther. for me, really really hard to decide.
wm6.5 got nice n smooth interface but cant get touch hd camera driver n all rhodium nice stuff.
wm6.1 v5.04 got all nice stuff n nice to cope with daily usage which mean more practical usage everyday.
in da end, i still choose wm6.1 v5.04 better la.. i feel like it got better ram management as it loads opera instantly from ram. more practical.
touch hd camera also provide better low light shooting. auto forus all da time also nicer.
besides ts.. u should make this thread as poll rather than ask like that.
I love Touch-IT v5...cant imagine me converting to the 6.5 rom...though I have never tried it.
Maybe I will if I have some spare time.
although 6.5 looks really nice, I'm gonna hold the update till the final version is released.
today, 5.04 works nicely, no problems at all after aplying the fixes found in the thread and very much better than the (really lite) stock rom-
Can't decide
I'm undecided... Its like I'm caught between two lovers... Personally I find the latest 6.5 ROM to be much better with RAM management, but like devalian said, the 6.1 ROM is much better for daily usage.
I was honestly expecting a lot more bugs in the 6.5 ROM but it actually worked exceptionally well. For those who haven't tried 6.5, I suggest you try it, those who haven't tried the latest 6.1, I suggest you try that also, either way, you can't loose.
lolz honestly mate i just got my phone tday and im on 4th rom ,and out of all those, and judging only on first impresions i like 6.5 i know there are bugs and stuff but nothing deal breaking ill keep the 6.5 for a while.
I am torn between my iPhone and Xperia X1. I want to switch my daily working phone from iPhone to X1 but the bugs in WM6.5 keeps me switches back to iPhone.
I am not a big fan of TouchFlow, the email envelop of the touchflow turned me off.
I prefer wm6.5. so far with wm6.5 RC1, the phone is fast (fast in scrolling, screan orientation..and others) and the battery can last longer (2 days).
However, I like the Opera browser in touch it 5.05 because it has a slider touch to change the zoom level and it has vibration feedback when clicking the link.
Until now, I have no idea why the opera browser in 5.05 different from others.

1. The phone canvas is too dark and the touch keypad is too small I can't use it outdoors
2. When the phone is in lock mode any incoming phone call will make the phone not responding
3. battery life is short ( might be a bug in the software, I charged the phone to full before went to bed, in the morning I checked the battery it is still full so far so good, I then used the phone lightly just view emails and made a couple of short calls, bluetooth and wifi is off. During lunch hour I checked the battery again it was 50% already. with the stock rom I normally use the phone for 3-4 days under the same usage)

In my opinion the WM6.5 Touch-it is far superior. im loving it at the moment
Im not a manila fan so i go for wm6.5 rom.
I find TF3D boring, not appealing and troublesome to add program 1 by 1.
Why? The flip clock is always there with [Call history and Calendar] which coulnt be changed. I prefer it to be something like CommManger or MSN or something else. 3days and I getting bored already. Moreover you can only change the background image for Home screen tab and not others. Although there's something floating around the forum which let you change every wallpaper of the tab, i find it troublesome (yes im lazy) and not attractive. Its still the same ol tab just with different background. *Manila fans will hate me for sure
So i go for WM6.5 with something new - (Titanium) home screen & menu. Adding a weather & Windows Live tab to home screen, changed the honeycomb column, install some basic need program and my device is ready for use.

So you're saying it could actually function for everyday use? I was under the impression the ROM was more or less ment as a preview for 6.5. I didn't realise there were versions of winmo 6.5 floating around which could actually be used
Does stuff like ms exchange, mail syncing, work on winmo 6.5? Do apps made for winmo 6.1 work on 6.5 aswell?

Yes, I've been using this ROM for everyday use since it came out (only annoying thing is answering the phone when it's on keylock)
MS Exchange works (mail, calender, contacts)
Most apps work fine, some show minor glitches (in PIM BackUp it's impossible to deselect messagefolders for backup)

The phone thing is actually a big downfall for me, by keylock do you mean tabbing the upper button or keeping the lock key pressed?

I think he meant the keylock by software where you have to slide to unlock. I do think the keylock(slider) not too perfect at the moment.... and I don't use it.
Hello! I have an X1a purchased in April 09, and currently has Windows Mobile 6.1
This phone, as pretty as it may look, gives me tons of grief daily.
1. It is slow, devastatingly slow. It freezes on pretty much anything.
2. WinMo 6.1 is confusing to me. I can't figure out how to save contacts to my storage card, or organize anything.
3. Opera always crashes on me and my internet connection goes out frequently.
4. Battery life is very short
5. It is now full of scratches (anyone use body guard or invisishield?)
and a lot more stuff
I bought this instead of an iPhone because the physical keyboard.
I would like to flash to winmo 6.5 w/ panels. Currently I am running it on AT&T in US.
I have no prior knowledge of anything technical regarding mobile phones, and so far I know that I need to get a Hard SPL to do anything.
How do I get Hard SPL on my phone?
Another question I have is regarding contacts. Currently I backed up all contacts to SIM and to phone, and in my contacts list, for every person, the contact is duplicated so I see the same name twice. I would like to backup my contacts to my SD card, but see only one line item per contact. What can I do here.
I am a newbie. trying to maneuver through this phone. Any and all input would be extremely valued and lessen the gray hairs on my head!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
Has the information you need for HardSPL
It is a must to go.
Once you upgraded to 6.5, x1 will perform like another phone. 6.5 is faster, however, depends which ROM you're using. Currently there are many ROM here are worth to try. For fastest/clean ROM, can try Jack's Lite or unoff V10.
However, these version are very lite without many applications but just fast. So you have to re-install softwares by yourself.
But some peoples would like ready to use ROM. Mean necessary applications already installed. In this case, Christian ROM is recommended.
Actually I tried almost all of them. For less bug one, I prefer clean/lite ROM.
Do all of the 6.5 ROMs that are here come with Panels? I know it may sound silly but I am pretty much hooked on the Sbp panel and don't use any other interface so I would like to get it back if I go to 6.5.

Some ROMs do include panels, but many of them don´t - it seems that quite a big portion of users are, just like me, very fond of Manila, the HTC I/F.
If you do prefer SPB anyway, did you think about flashing a "pure" ROM, as mentioned above, and to install the shell not as a panel, but as "home" screen? Saves memory and should be quite fast then! Or, maybe one day you will want to try another I/F, such as PointUI, who knows?
Hi,
X1 is my first WM phone. So far I am quite happy with but... .
For the last year I have been using it with Spb Mobile Shell on top which made everyday experience with the phone much better than WM 6.1 on its own.
Now, as I see all those ads with new Windows 6.5 it seems to me tat this system is even more user friendly.
Questions:
1. Is it worth to flash my rom to 6.5?
2. If so... which ROm should I choose? (there is quite a few of them and as you can see... me - no expert!
I just want something better, more finger friendly, etc...etc...
Please, all suggestions (and direct links) are welcome.
You can make it more "finger friendly" with softtouch cab...
The 6.5 works faster for me than 6.1
I have Energy ROM
I am quite happy with screen responsiveness , although I will try X1 Softtouch.
I was hoping that with new ROM, phone will get (beside new to eye icons) faster, more phone like maybe a bit more stable.
For example I am sick with this tine "x" (to right corner of screen) that I need to use to close almost all aplications. Why did MS not made it bigger?
I would like to change the look and usage of msg. tree.
To all you that made a swap from WM 6.1 to 6.5 - any pros and cons? Or not really much of a difference and I will not get anything more than I already have wit SPB Mobile Shell?
Hi guys,
My dad's handed me his Vario III / (Kaiser 120) to use.
I did a reset using the option in 'SETTINGS' to reset it and lose all date. Now, when I start it up, it looks like new and the time/date has to be set. All my dad's contacts have gone. Cool. - 1. Was this a Hard-Reset ?
I went to something like SETTINGS > INFO and got this:
Radio Vers 1.70.18.02
ROM DATE 9/01/08
ROM Vers. 3.31.110.3 WWE
Build 19212.1.03
When I start it up, it says Windows Mobile v6.1
A couple years ago, I loaded tomtom navigator on it for my dad. It was really good with the internal gps.
Anyway, now that I have the phone, I'd like to install tomtom navigator on it, use the camera (maybe 10 photos a week) and upload pics to my PC, and browse the internet (email, twitter etc.) from time to time. Also, I'd use the handset to connect via bluetooth to my laptop so I can use it for internet (in emergencies, as it is kinda slow). I also text (3-5 texts a day)
I also downloaded an app called Shazam.cab from a site called mobilism, which I would love to use as I have seen it on my lucky friend's iPhone and the app is awesome!
2. Apart from the usb cable, and active sync on my pc, do i need anything else to install shazam on my phone/micro sd card?
3. I assume a ROM means operating system? Like windows xp, 7 etc.
I see that people are putting new ROMs on their phone. My phone has
Storage Free Space: 121MB and Programs Free 55MB. There isn't a lot of 'bloatware' hogging up resources on there, as far as i can see.
4. Do I need to install a custom ROM now that you know my uses (in blue font above) for the phone? / do I need to flash it? I.e. will a new ROM/flash make my life a lot easier? Better to convert to android system? Will I need to do any of these things to install shazam?
I was goin to do this on the weekend so I can use other sims in my phone:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
fingers crossed it goes ok.
Can you please help?
Thank you
Sonny
ps. I may need to ask a couple more questions after this. Once again thank you for your help. If anyone needs advice on cameras, please let me know as I am a regular contributor to a photography forum.
1. Yes, it was HARD-Reset (removes all settings, contacts, messages, ...). It doesn't do anything to the MicroSD card.
2. I don't know anything about that. Sorry!
3. Yes, ROM means operating system. There are stock ROMs and modified ROMs. For Kaiser (a.k.a. HTC TyTN II) you'll find only stock Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and lots of modified WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 ROMs. There's no stock WM 6.5 ROM for Kaiser.
4. Android is not stable enough. Sometimes it crashes, doesn't wake up and so on... All your mentioned things can be done with both WM 6.1 and 6.5, so it's for you to decide what to use. WM 6.1 looks a little bit old and terrible, but it uses less resources than WM 6.5 which looks a little bit... like system that was made to be similar to iPhone OS. Yes, WM 6.5 is more finger-friendly, but the applications grid drives me crazy, it uses more resources (and loves draining the battery)
Thank you very much for taking the time to post. I found it really useful.
I stuck with original HTC ROM with 6.1 and I am loving it. Shazam works wonderfully well. The phone is so damn sharp. And, using 2 apps at once is brilliant.
Does anyone know if I can put more icons/apps on the TODAY SCREEN?
At the moment, I am only allowed to put 6 in the start menu screen, and 1 (tom tom) on the today screen.
My Start menu has: 1 File explorer, 2 organiser (i use the calculator a lot), 3 internet explorer, 4 MS word (for my notes), 5 shazam (use a lot), 6 Resco photo manager (for uploading to FlickR)
I'd like to add 2 more apps (wunder radio + core player) somewhere with quick access.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Try copying applications links (.lnk files) from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to \Windows\Start Menu\
I'm not sure if it's going to work with Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's safe to try
