To the ones that tried both OS would you recommend switching from 6.1 to 6.5?
I know 6.5 have a nicer graphic and it is a bit more touch friendly etc. but some chefs said it will never really run as fast as 6.1 on our diamond due probably to the limited amount of memory.
What do you guys think?
Is it better to stick to 6.1 and install finger friendly programs or any other suggestions?
In my personal experience I find 6.1 to be clunky.
I would upgrade to 6.5 if I were you using BSB's rom.
I prefer the slightly more finger friendly feel to WM6.5
also the better more fluid Kinetic scrolling on WM6.5
the whole ram on some roms for WM6.5 is much more stable than WM6.1
and if cooked correctly WM6.1 can be just as fast and ram friendly as WM6.1.
I would say try it, if you don't like it go back to WM6.1, that's the beauty of such a flexible device as windows mobile
i am currently running on 6.1 1.93 official rom.. find it good enough.. very finger friendly to me already since i have not taken out my stylus to use other than occasional hangs and i need to soft reset..
My vote also goes for 6.5
For it is more finger friendly, and for scroll kinetic!
The experience depends on the build version and on the chief that cooked it.
I tried a few and found the best for now is BsB's 6.5Q version witch is 23017 build. Here is a link if you like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506533
I tried never builds like 23025, but is very buggy.
BsB's 6.5Q runs smoothly, gives a ~100mb free space and ~50mb free ram!
I'm using Titanium tho not a TF3D!
6.1 makes my PDA look like a pc whie 6.5 makes it look like a phone.
Personally i'd have to go for BSB's 6.5 Titanium. I've gotten bored of TF3D/TF3D2 now and wanted something new to show off about.
Just to snaz it up a bit more i'd recommend using JML Today plugin found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540413
Also, JML Today skins are here:

Hi, I am also looking at 6.5, but was wondering, which rom is the fastest and most stable in your opinion, is it BSB's latest one?
Thanks
I like 6.1os more. because I am adjusted to it and thinki it is much better for me to use . you know that the habit is so important . I have tried some times to fit for the6.5os but i find it is complicated though the interface is better.
Thanks for your feedback all, I have installed the latest BsB and it works quite well so far.
I still have to get used to the new menus and such.
I do miss the manila audio player, is there anything out there as good as that one? WMP sucks big time and it is not finger friendly.

I have done the same, BsB's is good!
I would also like to change WMP, any1 have some ideas?
Why dont you try s2p (slide to play) or CorePlayer...?
Nitrogen is a lot better than those two (imho) but I just decided to go back to 6.1
Maybe when Android is fully ported I'll consider changing OS again.
Agreed

Oh... yes. I forgotten that. But I personaly prefer CorePlayer, Which plays almost any media format on earth and supports skining too...
Hi,
I read some links I could find in google ("windows mobile 6.1 vs. 6.5") and...
What are really usable improvements of 6.5 over 6.1 that makes life easier? If I use Manila most of the time - no difference what OS runs behind it. My email client (I guess email client in 6.1 is made by Microsoft) is also good enough.
I don't think that 6.5 runs a bit faster. Same OS with just a different GUI.
So way to wait for 6.5?
Any updates when it will be officially released? October?
I read somewhere that HTC won't release 6.5 for old devices (like Touch HD). No changes here? Still same position at HTC?
Hi.... I had the same question and tried out WM6.5 for about a month. I did not see any tangible improvement over WM6.1 and when I switched back I did notice more smoother and quicker operation under 6.1
My personal recommendation is to stick to 6.1 mate!
I haven't really noticed any usable improvements in WM6.5 (however the latest versions are adding more finger friendly softkeys/close/start/keyboard buttons). There is of course the new Titanium Home Screen which is a great improvement over the standard home screen, but I still don't find it as useful as Manila.
I keep going back to the 6.1 roms as they seem to be snappier, and 6.5 still feels too buggy in my opinion. Each to their own.
Hi,
Thanks for your opinions. Seems that I'm not the only one who doesn't understand the hype of v6,5.
If used without Manila - of course 6,5 is better. But as we all use HTC GUI - no sense of installing 6,5.
I like the in-built kinetic scrolling of WM6.5 and the more intuitive Start menu, especially when the cooked ROM has made it more organised. If you only ever touch Manila, then it's probably not worth going with WM6.5. However, if you do like everything to flow more smoothly and be more "finger friendly" then go with WM6.5

What is not "finger friendly" in Win6.1+Manila? I don't use Stylus at all.. so I think everything's more or less friendly in Manila.
What I wanted to say is: when you use Manila - you don't see operating system behind it.
And is really native Win6.5 GUI better/more intuitive/faster than Manila?
try " because it is a newer version " for the reason why folks like lol
I dont like manila (too restrictive) and use the SPB shell. As you're probably aware, the shell falls back to winmo for many functions and in that regard, i much prefer the 6.5 interface when you're "outside" of the shell.
xxx045+ builds look to be even better.
Frankly the telstra rom was a bit of a dog anyway, although i'll admit ive not tried any cooked 6.1 roms.
personally ... i more on 6.1 coz im create my own ROM base on that...
6.5 still buggy .. so im not plan on that.
This is personal taste, some prefer wm6.1 and some wm6.5. Not everyone is going to agree on this as everyone has different opinions/tastes.
People are waiting for the official release of wm6.5 as currently all cooked roms using wm6.5 are using leaked/beta versions, so the final product should hopefully be more stable.
I'm still not aware of any official release date for wm6.5, though autumn/winter of this year would be a good bet.
HTC won't be releasing wm6.5 for the HD, but once its officially released, don't worry you'll find that version on the HD
As title of this thread is opinionated I am closing this thread
Hi, I need an information. Is these wm6.5 roms fast and stable on imate kjam?
Mine slows down after sometime, once I install wm6.5. However, I use my finger for using the phone and wm6.1 though it is faster, it is not finger friendly. What is the best rom for stability, fastness & finger friendliness. Is it wm6.5 or wm6.1. Which rom among this is very fast. Also I use the SPB mobile shell. So with this installed, which will be faster and stabler.
Hey umasiva,
I don't know if the WM6.5 will ever be fast on our Wizards, but I can't really tell, since I have never flashed a 6.5 ROM on mine.
My recommendation is that you use a 6.1 ROM and some 3rd party app to make things more finger-friendly. Check the ROM on my signature, it's not mine, but I really like it. Simple, fast and stable. I'm using ir for over 2 months and no freezes or bugs until now. Even the camera is better than before!
To make things more finger-friendly, there are plenty apps around: iContact for contacts list; Wktask for a little bigger X/OK button; WAD for skinning and changing Today Screen in awfull ways; PCMKeyboard if you prefer the onscreen typing, with bigger buttons...
Just search around and you find many of them
Cheers
need Rom for i-mate k-jam
Is there any wm7 for i-mate k-jam?
I want the latest wm6.5 Rom for i-mate k-jam that have high speed and give little space from i-mate k-jam's main memory.

Hi Nandobang,
Thanks for your advice. As u were mentioning, I got frequent freezing with wm6.5 roms, as I liked to use it with either SPB mobile shell or more of Pointui. I think I will go back to wm6.1 rom. The only think I like a lot in wm6.5, which I miss in wm6.1 is the smooth scrolling. I dont know whether any application is there to give the feel of smooth scrolling in wm6.5 to wm6.1. If so, please let me know.
Imate k-jam

How about you go and look in the ROM development forum? I'm sure you'll find something you like in there.
Be sure to read up on how to unlock your phone as well. Also.. While you're at it, check the wiki. There's lots of good stuff in there too.
6.5 and 6.1
can u upload windows 6.1 and 6.5 plz
Hey all,
I cant let go of SPB mobile shell purely because of the task and calendar widgets. have them on the same screen or just a swipe apart is invaluable to someone as completely disorganised as me
Phone is starting to get sluggish and i was thinking of a re-flash. Seeing as i'm pretty much 100% SPB what's the best firmware for me?
i guess the leanest and quickest would be best right? seeing as its just being used as a layer underneath what i'm actually viewing?
Cheers.
Stock rom should do it!
What do you have now?
I recommend 6.5.5 pure ROMs because they are finger friendlier and pretty fast. I'd look at Christian's pure, Williyung's 826X, or Rotastrain's pure Blaze.
I can vouch that 826X is basically perfect, except for panels.
Look for ROMs with "Clean" "Pure" "Lite" or "Bare" on the title
I am using the Barebone versione from this thread ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509891 ) for the same purpose (with the newest version of Mobile Shell). The widget for new sms does not seem to work for me this way though. Neither did it with this one ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=594278 ). But you still get the notifications in the taskbar, so it's not a huge problem for me. Missed calls and mail also seems to work.
In any case (i.e. whatever ROM you use) please report back on the sms widget.
ok - cheers all. i'm running a fairly packed 6.5 rom at the mo and it's the best i've had my x1 yet. but now i'm so happy with mobile shell it'd be great to get a bit more performance out of it.
even an android owning mate is jealous of some of spb's functions
I would recommend Christian's ROM, especially if you like SPB Mobile, like myself. The Pro & Leisure switching of SPB Mobile gives me easy access to all features.
I am finally getting rid of my X1 (in favour of the HTC Desire) and am passing over my X1 to my wife. Can anyone recomend an easy/basic non-techy friendly ROM that I should put on it? Thanks
i guess any rom without bug slow manila will be ur choice
I would recommend Evilash rom... fast simple , eye candy! , stable , few battery comsuming , great , with Sense too! , totally recommended.!

In fact this specific 6.1 (Evilash) is very finger frendly.
I believe a Manila version without many programs should do the job (another player installed will be great, I never used the manila one, because I find it laggy).
I don't think that she will install apps on it. The dialer, MMS , Email and SMS menus should be finger friendly. Manila has shortcuts for programs so I don't think she will ever enter in the Start-Menu.
A WM 6.1 ROM should be faster in Manila.
Cheers!
where is the difference of finger-friendly between 6.1 and 6.5?

WM6.1 is make to use in stylus and little finger (Evilash rom is better) but 6.5.x is finger friendly and all setting and program is very easy use in finger.
I think the basic, non-Manilla, WM 6.5 Titanium roms would be good for her. Very simple and easy to read interface/today page. Simple scrolling up and down of the page itself, or the scrollbar. There are many of these out here...check 'em out
i'm currently using Jack'sROM v5.2b basic ( NO MANILA)
blazing fast, super smooth & very stable.
with a few customization for the looks, it's all good.
see my post for screenies>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6114197&postcount=88
i would highly recommend this ROM for those who simply wants titanium
I would recommend you to try the latest of the WildChild's Rhodium based ROMs. It sports latest Manila 2.5, moves very fast and very stable. Finger friendly as manila interface is tend to be. Perfect ROM for a person that's not tech savvy but still wants to have goodies like weather, twitter, good messaging client, etc,etc out of the box and a phone that doesn't freeze
xperias are quite user-friendly enough.. And it's better in X2..
So I suggest you should try out X2 rom by jerpelea.. I'm using it and I'm satisfied with it.. It's battery life is just okay for me.. 2-3 days.. It's fast, easy to use and looks more "Xperia"

Don't try jerpelea's X2 Roms.
Don't get me wrong, i use it myself, but for someone non-tech, you don't want a rom that has a standby of death sometimes when charging, and that ruins your whole battery..
I had it myself, phone was charging, it hung for about 4 hours when i was sleeping, i wake up. I'm like wtf whats your problem phone. battery was totally dead, i decharged it and charged it again, batery life was about 3 hours every charge since it hung during charging.
If i were you i'd put a simple Manilla 2.1 rom on it, basic windows mobile 6.1 is everything exept user friendly.
I think your best off with Jerpelea's "First Rom" it isn't his first, it's one of the best manilla roms i know.
good luck
