Hey, China Mobile just went live with their homegrown version of 3g. I was wondering if any of you super smart coders out there if XDA land woudl know if we will eventually be able to download a radio or setting to our TYTN II's that will allow us to use the TD-SCDMA sim cards to access China's 3g network or is it a different chipset?
I've searched all over the internet and I guess i don't know enough about the differences in technology to understand if it will be possible.
If it's not possible I’ll probably end up buying one of the 3g phones that China Mobile has on sale here in Shanghai.
Also what is the best radio to use in china. I know it's all over and I am probably going to get flamed for asking but i everyone seems to have a different opinion and not all the posts include the latest radio's released.
Thanks!
Id love to get an answer for the above question as well. I bought my TyTn II hoping that they would use the same 3G and 3.5G in the future as was available on my TyTn II but it seems it may not be so.
Thanks in advance to all those that respond.
LZ(Chinese word, means #1),td-scdma is available only in china.and no forign phones can work with it
I spotted this on PDADb
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1387
It mentions a new KAISER 140 model. Anyone knows of it? I didn't find another mention.
UPDATE: It seems that it supports "UMTS1700", unlike the other models?
You can see a comparison table here:

I think it is the Emonster model that people have previously mentioned.
Not much difference really.
This Kaiser should work on either AT&T or T-Mobile in the US. It should work in Europe as well sporting all those data bands.
I want one.
Do any AT&T insiders know if the current Tilt will be upgraded to this version of the Kaiser? It's nice to see that this new version is supporting UMTS1700 More bands, the better. It's too bad the Diamond Pro isn't supporting as many UMTS bands as the Kaiser or Hermes
Why would AT&T want to have a phone that supports a Frequency Band it doesn't use?

PDAdb still says that the Kaiser has a transflective screen. Anyone tried to use your GPS outdoors in bright sunlight?
Hi guys,
Well, the shop that originally sold me the GSM Diamond has exchanged it to the proper 3G unlocked version.
Do not want to go through the bother with shipping back to Japan and dealing with customs. Besides I pre-ordered my Touch Pro with expansys
Thus, I have a new 3G model up for grabs. I paid 750 Canadian for it. Will let it go for 650 CDN.
Thanks.
This would be 3G on Rogers Network? Are you sure of this?
Has it been opened our used yet?
There is no network associated with this. It should be an HTC Retail version that is 3G capable hardware wise. Weather you choose to use it in a 3G network area is up to yourself.
It would be unopened but to be honest I have asked my friend to open it and make sure that it is the correct model that the shop is exchanging for me. So, in actuality it will be opened but unused. He is just going to make sure it is indeed unlocked and 3G.
The reason for this is when I orginally bought the diamond from this shop before returning to Japan they gave me the Indian GSM model, which they are not exchanging as mentioned.
I guess if it is a huge issue to anyone I can ask him not to open it and go by the specs on the box. Buyers choice. But, I need to know as the new one should be in by Thursday.
thx
Careful potential buyers, there is no Diamond, with any ROM, that currently supports North American 3G bands... Only 900/2100mhz. Does not have the hardware necessary to do so.
Thanks for that. Perhaps the best thing is for me to ship it back to Japan and sell here. Not sure if this can be included in any future radio/rom update/upgrade at this point.
But it is the 3G version but as mentioned about supports 1900/2100 frequencies.
Currently:
HSDPA/WCDMA:
*
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
*
Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Yeah, didn't wanna be a jerk and get you out of a sale, but people should know what they're buying. I'd ship it back to Japan if I were you, that's probably your best bet (unless someone would rather have EDGE on their Diamond now than 3G on it in a few months).
np,
I would just recommend that anyone thinking about it read the specs on the HTC site for the current model.
thx
I'm gonna keep this thread alive for the next 3 days, then it will be closed and cleaned up!
Hey guys,
I just have a quick question. I've been looking for a while as I'm moving to the US in the next few months. I have the HTC Touch right now with Telus in Canada and we just got the HTC Diamond BUT as I'm moving down south I didnt upgrade. I'm wondering what carriers have or WILL have the HTC Diamond or even better the Touch Pro by Christmas time.
Does anyone know?
Thanks!
Aaron
Sprint is getting the CDMA Diamond here in a few weeks (Sept 14th is the release) and the Pro is supposed to follow roughly one month later.
I have not heard any definite plans for AT&T or T-Mobile regarding the Diamond, but a user on this forum has a pre-release of the Pro from AT&T.
Does anyone know of someone who can modify my TYTN II to work on the T-Mobile USA 1700/2100 3g network . I am willing to pay to have this done. My phone is far superior than any 3g phones T-mobile USA has and also I hate to throw it out when there isn't a good replacement available.

Its not possible. Check the Touch Pro boards or the Diamond boards, or the Touch HD boards. Anyone in the US with the original European versions of those phones, can't use 3G here. Adding new bands has been discussed time and time again, with the answer being no.
if you want i can send you my at&t and you send me your TytnII 'cause i'm in italy and need to make videocalls, let me know if you want to, maybe i can give u some money bye
Ken
TyTn II
Any news about it? did something change or I have to sell this Tytn II on ebay?
