Hi!
I have a strange problem since I upgraded to the "new" official rom. Everytime I start the browser through the globe my phone starts two browsers. If I start through the favourites it starts as normal. Is there a fix for this?
Also, deleting favorites does still not work - they just won't die.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why our browsers have to reload the page even though you are just going "back" one page. For example, if I visit Gizmodo, then go to engadget, then back to Gizmodo, my browser has to reload the page instead of using the cache. It seems as if the cache is barely used (granted the reload is a little quicker, but not much).
Is there a tweak or program that can make this better? It is really frustrating, especially if you are trying to browse a page and accidentally hit the wrong link, which requires you to fumble for stop and oft times requires a reload (this is one reason I miss the Hero browser, because it had a stop button in the address bar).
Hmm, I've noticed this as well. Perhaps Android thinks you need to refresh the page? I know with apps like Opera Mini, pages back (somewhere around 10) are completely stored which is a very nice feature, but as to why Android doesn't do this, is a mystery .
I know the larger files, like images and chunks of text, are saved to the cache, but not whole pages. That would get pretty big after a while, and would slow down the browser because of access times. It's the time the Browser takes to draw the page is what's creating the lag. Look at Opera Mini again, the page loads instantly because it's zoomed out first, then you zoom in.
try "steel" browser.
@ phuthanvinh: I have tried "Steel", but it really isn't any better.
@lukekirstein, yeah, that is one nice thing about Opera. It loads cached pages almost instantly in most instances. When I need quick information, I always turn to Opera. If I want to browse for pleasure, then I use the Android browser.
It would be awesome if a Developer could implement some type of Webkit add-on that forces cache of the whole page.
I just wonder if the "lag" is not caused by redownloading, but rather stems from Android using software-based graphics decoding instead of using the onboard graphics chip. At least that is what I have heard.
I have the same issue and it's very annoying when I'm using google reader!
Have you find a solution?
Does anyone have a solution to prevent android browser to reload pages already load in a tab after I come back from another tab?
Howdy folks, many thanks to all the devs who brought us CM7 and all things Android for the NC!
One problem I seem to notice on the internet browser (android browser) is that I can select a bookmark or manually type in the address and hit GO, and the new address shows in the address bar.....but it won't actually go out and download the data (no green loading bar). The same symptom can occur when selecting a link off of a page.....it recogizes that I touched the link, but it never actually loads.
I had to reboot last night to get the symptoms to go away....which seemed to work.
Maybe we all experience this, but even when it's operating normally, the browser will sometimes have a considerable delay from when choosing a link or bookmark, but eventually will start loading the page.....
Is this normal? I'm on CM7 running from SD card with no nightly builds....
Thanks folks
JP
you need to understand that even though you are running Cyanogen Mod's Stable build it's still built by a team of developers and might be buggy. It's RAW android. It's ever evolving, ever changing. With that being said. Try holding your finger on the link until a window pops up and select open or "open in new tab". I've always had that problem on Cyanogen Mod ROMs. But typically, as you mentioned, a soft reset will remedy the problem. But i don't find it worthy of discarding the ROM.
Thanks neidlinger, I will try holding the link to see if it will respond better....I agree, not worthy of discarding the ROM.
When browsing the web if I press the home button or go into another app and immediately back into the browser all of the tabs want to refresh, even if there is only one tiny html file open. I have read about many people having this problem on different android devices but it never gets much attention. I am not clear what the issue is, can anyone give me a little bit more info?
I currently run an up to date Serendipity 7 on my Captivate and use Dolphin HD although this happens in the stock browser. Never tried any others. I have run many roms on this device and all of them have had this problem, although some more sporadically than others. With the latest Serendipity it happens like clockwork. I don't use a task killer, the browser doesn't close.
Sounds like a ram priority issue, cache not being written to disk or something. Is this general to the kernel? Is there a browser available that saves pages to disk until you've navigated away for a while? Why do most people not have this problem? Where should I post this so it gets the proper attention?
First post, longtime lurker, this issue is making me mad.
Here's an experiment.
If you had a few tabs loaded up in chrome, but you haven't touched your phone in 10-20 minutes, this test is perfect. Load up chrome, does it instantly refresh the first open tab?
On my HTC One thus far, on all roms based off of stock, chrome and chrome beta constantly reload tabs. It drives me insane because at work my wifi is slow.
My N4 never did this. I tested it with my gf's N4 and her chrome caches pages like a pro.
Once the nexus experience HTC One rom drops, I'm all over it, given that that will allow for cached pages.
Btw, do AOSP-built roms avoid the constant reloads?

Likewise: I've got the same thing with CM10.1 and CM10.2: when browsing xda forums with chrome, it continually reloads, but only when I'm logged in to xda. If I logout, it stops reloading. This happens on my Samsung Note 2 and my Barnes & Noble Nook HD+. I haven't tested it on any other platforms.
this is happening in miui on my Note too using Opera, especially on xda on forum theads. one inside a theading reading posts its fine. same if logged in or not.
It is really annoying, only happens at xda for me
One thing that happened when I first rooted my 7100 was that the stock browser kept crasching. So I installed the dolphin which was fast and worked pretty good. However one thing that I thought was the browser seems to have something to do with java. Some sites keep crashing now on both browser, however stock keeps crashing the most.
Is there something to do (except turn of java script) here?
