Dutch version - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and to Windows Mobile. I'm planning to get a new Diamond 2 in The Netherlands. Searching I've found that I can get the MDA Compact V version from T-Mobile NL or go for the HTC Diamond 2 version on T for Telecom. My biggest concern is that I want to have the device in ENGLISH, does anyone from The Netherlands know which versions are sold here and which language they ship with?
Is it possible to change the language afterwards in case it comes in dutch? I've seen some threads talking about the need of flashing the ROM for this. I'm a really new to all this so I don't know if that is possible using official HTC ROMS or is something else...
I don't know if I make much sense, sorry again if I talk non-sense.
Thanks!

In almost every shop you can choose between the NLD (Dutch) version and the UK (WWE) version. Just ask at the shop.

Thanks, I'll try that. I had assumed that being in The Netherlands all shops will be selling only the Dutch version.

Sorry, but you can't chose between langages in the shops in The Hague, especialy at Bel Company. They don't care if you want an english version and they become very arogant about that. Best thing is to buy one in dutch if they don't want to provide one in english and ask nicely CMONEX to help you to change the language in english.

Thanks for the info iulnitu. I'll check on Saturday and see if I can get it in English. It's a bit strange that this happened to you at Bel Company. In their website they are announcing both version NL and UK, you can check here:
http://www.belcompany.nl/NL/Ik_Wil/een_nieuw_toestel.htm
Anyway, I'll guess I'll find out personally this Saturday. Anyone with a similar experience?

pdashop.nl sells devices in NL en ENG. Other sites do too.

T-Mobile will probably only sell the Dutch device. If you want to get a WWE version you'll have to look at a HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Not MDA Compact V).

Hey all. www.pdashop.nl now has teh TyTN II up for pre-order, but only the dutch version. Theyr'e shipping it for more than 100 euro's cheaper than expansys is, but.... It's the Dutch version.
Though I'm Dutch myself I have always used an English operating system on both my pc and my phones.
Would it be possible to flash a Dutch TyTN II with an English ROM without too much hassle?
Jesse
Maybe better for you to get it from here if you want an English version http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/765/htc-tytn-2

Jesse,
PDA Shop has now also the UK version. I also can not stand the Dutch on any operationg system (well not only dutch but any language for that matter). I have given them a call last week asking if they are going to ship the UK version and the answer was no, since there was no demand for it. Well friday I have noticed that they do list it now on the site. I guess more people were asking for it.
Also I am going to order one from www.smartphonestunts.nl I have done business with them in the past and they were perfect. The PDA shop is no go by because of 2 reasons
1. they do not want to sell me a T-Mobile subscription (and i am due for a renewal, so meaning major discount on the device)
2. I have noticed a couple of times that they sell products which do not come from the official Dutch dealers. THis was the case with my friend's ETEN, which needed a ROM update and I was not able to download it since the serial number did not match, after I contacted eten people here in the NL they told me right away that I probably purchased the device from PDA Shop and that it is not their device thus I have no right to get a ROM update. After begging they let me have it, because the guy was nice. And on another ocasion we needed to purchase 4 devices (Trinity) for a client and 3 of them I was not able to register on the site to get the ROM update the S/N was rejected. I did not make a fuss since it was for client who did not care and I was already able to register one device so I downloaded the ROM update.
Also you can try www.algebeld.nl
Try to find one in France with no chance .
Is the keyboard only in QWERTY ?

Ordered Traditional Chinese by Mistake

Hi all I am desperate. I just ordered my TyTn II from Expansys Hong Kong.
It is only after ordering that I realized that it is in the Traditional Chinese Language and not the World Wide English language. The Expansys UK site has the English units but I have already ordered.
What does Traditonal Chinese mean. Will the software be in Chinese. Will the QWERTY keyboard be in Chinese. And since I don't know Chinese will I not be able to use it.
In the meantime I have also e-mailed Expansys regarding the mistake I have made and let us see what they have to say.
Please help me in understanding what Traditional Chinese means.
there are two ways to write chinese: traditional and simplified. traditional is obviously the older one, where as simplified allows for less strokes per character.
they are not english
i dont know how it'll turn out on the phone though, just wanted to clarify what traditional was for you
Traditional Chinese is a Chinese script written by people unaffected by the Peoples' Republic of China's simplification of the Chinese script. Primary users are Hong Kong, Taiwan and their respective diasporas. At any rate, you can't type Chinese - it's not alphabetical.
Most phones sold in Hong Kong have both English and Chinese pre-installed, but that's not true for all phones, especially smartphones. There's a chance that you can switch yours to an English interface when you get it - I haven't bought a HTC device in Hong Kong, so I can't give you a definite answer.
They have an english one too on Hong Kong site too, so why don't give them a call?

As long as they have not shipped, Expansys usually do not object to cancelling the order. No worries there.
Hi,
New user but I felt I could add something to your problem.
I bought a TyTn2 in HK, and my understanding is that they ship 2 versions- chinese and english. There is no setting in the phone to change the language, and the diff language versions actually run different roms.
If in the end you get a chinese version, my understanding is english apps will work and the icons are fairly self explanatory.
If you are still struggling, then I guess you can hope that an english ver rom will take.
Grump
Chinese version do have a chinese keyboard which allow easy entry of chinese words.
It will work with all english and other language apps.
I am a chinese TyTNII user because I need Chinese input.
If you don't need the chinese input, just cancel the order and make a new one.
Thanks to everyone for all your responses.
What I have done is to cancel my order and made a fresh one at the Expansys UK site instead of the HK site.
And now the wait begins and once again thanks to all
Regards

Which country does this Diamond come from?

Hi guys,
I was wondering on how I can find out from which country my Diamond originates. It came with the following ROM version: 1.35.456.3 WWE and SPL 1.35.
Is there any chance to find out if it is an Asian or European phone? Would it also be possible to understand from which country it specifically comes from?
One more info: it came with a Euro-style adapter.
I would like to update the ROM, but would try to avoid to install a HardSPL for now.
Thanks for the help.
it's from Taiwan

I've seen a "made in Taiwan" on the box, but I guess that HTC produces all phones in Taiwan. Nevertheless they put different SPLs and ROMs on them, depending for which country the shipment is destined.
Did you intend the made in Taiwan or do you think that I got a phone that was build for the Taiwanese market? How would you know that? Looking at the ROM version?
Sounds like an asian unit to me...the european models come with 1.37 rom as far as i know. I should have my UK spec Diamond tommorrow morning so ill check then.
But yours seems to be one of those 'grey' imports ie Asian.
Almost all the PDA phones including the HTC are design and make by Taiwan, an island east of China, west of Japan and south of Korea.
Asia has been designing and manufacturing many phones, include some Nokia, Moto, Sony phones. Of course Samsung is from Korea. I am talking of the big 4 here.
@Spawn12
So anything wrong with Asia made phones?

Well from what people have been saying on here, there seems to be quite a few problems with them ie laggy interface etc etc. Although people have posted tweaks in order to resolve those issues. Almost put me off buying one but im glad HTC held back the release of the UK spec models in order to apply the 1.37 rom which seems to have solved alot of those earlier issues.
Hmm... Why should an Asian model come with a European plug...
Other thing I noticed. The warranty comes in three languages: English, French and Arabic. Wouldn't make sense for a Hong Kong version, would it? On the other hand the update to the European 1.37 ROM posted on this forum does not work (invalid vendor id).
people seem confused about 'grey' imports and 'asian' phones
ALL diamonds, every single one that we have in our hands, were made in asia, apparently taiwan. they have exactly the same hardware. they are the same phone. The so called 'UK spec' models are exactly the same, with a different ROM. The only advantage of 'UK spec' is probable better local HTC support but even that is debatable. Maybe in the future when HTC do a 2nd production run there will be difference in hardware, but there isn't any now.
HTC distribute these identical devices with different ROMs according to their intended export destination. observed differences in performance come from the different ROMS, occasionally useful tweaks, and the almost superstitious and fanatical obsession many of us seem to have with 'tweaking' our devices' (if you change registry key HKLM/Drivers/Biotouch/SecretPerformanceBoost/Enable to 1 and soft reset, the device is much faster and TF3D more responsive).. I mean we're all geeks or we wouldn't be here but lets try a little perspective. Many of these tweaks don't do anything but give us a comforting dose of placebo effect..

Guys, do not stress me too much pls . I just finished loading a container of Diamonds for EVA Air heading for Paris tonight.
the Hong Kong version (WWE) is normally NOT foresee for export / sales outside of HK. If you have a box with SIS International Limited on it, it is a Honkie version.
As for te ROM 1.37 and "invalid vendor id" --> welcome to XDA and start reading. the answer is out there (... hardSPL tip)

[Q] Phone regional settings

Hi guys, my first post so would like to say hello firstly and glad I found a dedicated forum on WP7 and the HD7!
Anyway, I've just bought my very first WP7 and HTC handset which was from an eBay shop based in the UK.
The phone came with a EU plug so it's obviously not a UK phone but that's ok. What I am worried about though is that settings such as the radio and keyboard don't have the UK listed as an option. The radio setting only has 'World, North America and Japan' and the keyboard only has 'English US'. I did have to change the region to UK as it was defaulted to AU.
Any ideas if I can get UK listed and if it would even make a difference? Not really worried about the keyboard to be honest, but I have found the radio to be very poor - I can only pick up one station which is BBC Radio 1, and even that is quite temperamental.
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.
