Two odd TytnII issues - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi,
I gave my wife my Tytn II after I upgraded to an X1. I hard reset it and set it up for her to use on Orange UK.
It now does two weird things that it never did when I had it.....
1: When she makes a call in the car using bluetooth, the in-call volume slider automatically goes to zero and the other end can't hear her at all. If someone rings her it's fine.
2: Active Sync insists on firing up even if you close it again. It never did that with me and I can't find how to stop it?!
I've done a fair bit of searching but have now given up and am hoping someone might know the answer to either or both of the above? Or point me at the right thread if there's one out there?
cheers!

Speaker not fully duplex?

Hi,
I have a very weird problem with my Tytn II, which I bought little over a week now.
People I was talking to complained they didn't hear me very good, the sound appeared to drop. It occured to me that it was happening when I used the speaker (handsfree) of the phone.
I did some testing, and this is what happens:
I (with the Tytn II) call person X, and when I and person X are talking together, person X cannot hear me, the sound on his side simply fades to nothing, until 1 of us keeps quiet. The same happens when for example sound from my car is picked up by the phone, thus resulting in the device not being usable in the car, since there's always some noise. I however on my side keep hearing person X, it's person X that doesn't hear me.
It happens with 2 sim cards, everyone I call, did a hard reset, HTC support doesn't know the problem...
I'm puzzled. Can anyone suggest anything? Or is it faulty?
Thanks
no, mine does the same thing. I got it a few days ago and when i used speaker while driving, i could hear the other person perfect, but they cant seem to hear me. It feels like half duplex. i hope this is fixable
Damn, it seems widespread then...?
Anyone who can test it?
maybe it has to do with whatever noise cancelling algorithm is in effect is mucking everything up

Meaning that every single device would have this, and thus mine not being faulty?
I had the same problem but remembered that there was an automatic sound function which turns down the volume when talking is too hard and turns it up when to soft. Its called microphone agc and you can find it under system configuration. Now that it's turned off my dutch htc tytn II works fine in handsfree mode. Hoop this helps you also

It's already turned off :-( .
However, I just called with HTC, and they said it's because of the mic and the speaker being too close to each other, and thus it compensates.
They say every model has it however, they did a test today and the result was that it was a feature, not a bug...
Anyone here who does not have it on his device?
I have this problem all the time, both on speaker and just using the phone to my ear as normal.
People complain I am very quiet or that the sound is choppy and I sound like a robot
I used to have this problem on the O2 XDA IIs a few years ago.
Anyone else have it too? I'd like to know asap if this device is faulty, or if it's normal?
Sometimes, it seems that when I'm holding it to my ear, the sound seem to drop on the other side too...
I have exactly the same problem. People have trouble hearing me with loudspeaker switched on. Without speaker they can hear me perfectly.
I have the same problem too. Just try to disable the Microphone AGC thing and it fixes the problem. Thanks downnootje.
I have teh same problem , but I tried something and it is improved the Operation , try to minimize the Speaker volume to the minimum level and then it improes a little and it works for me ; not all the time but that is what we can do at the moment
I'm convinced now that it's a mojor problem.
Mine even got worse: since yesterday, it's happening without handsfree too, people can't almost hear me when I just hold it to my ear...
Is this a phone still, or can't it be used as such?
try enableing Microphone AGC thing, restart phone, and disable it
Me too. Juz got my set 2 days back. The other party hears my voice intermittently chop-off...
I have faced the similar problem on a particular China-made TV phone too. Tested two other units of the same model still the same. It seems to me the phone design issue, as after I changed to another model of China-made TV phone, the problem solved.
Sigh! Already got this expensive phone, think have to bear with this feature then if it is really cannot be resolved by new ROM.
same problem
i have the same problem...with my 8525 when I was on the train or in a similar noisy situation i never had any trouble with people hearing me on the other end...with the tilt i can't even carry on a conversation on the train...i called tech support and they told me to swap it out for a new one.

I've tried that and it doesn't help! Quite sad about it. I need to use speaker handsfree especially during driving.... Don't really like to hook-up the headset or BT headset... too messy for wired headset and too tedius (charging) for BT headset...
Now that I know its half duplex it works pretty well in the car - I just wait for the other person to stop talking
Surur
I will be sending mine to HTC for a planned hardware fix as they agreed there is a defect that affects all kaiser and tilts, but NOT the MDA VARIO III. this is a known issue and is hardware related. Good news for those who havent purchased one yet. I will sell mine on ebay if they dont asign me a RA soon. I rather have the MDA VARIO III as it has 2 cams.
(doesnt your HTC TYTN2 has 2 camera's?)
Same problem here. Hope for a sollution soon!
Will call HTC too soon, so theyll have more complaints about this defect.

low mic voice while on loudspeaker

i am facing an issue with my tytn II. When ever i shift to the loudspeaker, it seems the quality of the mic degrades. Keeping the phone at a distance of 1 feet, i have to shout so the other person can listen to me. And even normally if i compare my mic with other phones people says its difficult ti understand me when i am on this phone. is this a problem only with my phone or some one else is also facing the same?
PS :I can hear them very well though.

same here hope we all find an answer!
I know on the wizard, there was a registry tweak to fix this issue.
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN(x)\
I don't see this on the kaiser/tilt. There's probably some key out there...gotta find it.
there is an application in settings Microphone AGC (audio gain control) but it doesnt help much either.....its just an enable and disable...may be there is some registry tweak to make it more effective
i joined this forum because of this problem as there were a lot posts in a different thread about it; however, it appears no one has found a resolution to the problem.
Some say it is a design flaw while others have been thinking (including myself) that there might be some type of registry fix for this. The agc in the htc menu being disabled does nothing to resolve the problem; but there could still be something in the registry that relates specifically to when the speaker phone is being used (the agc in the htc menu mentions it is for recording; there might be another setting in the registry for when the "speaker phone" is being used that overides the htc agc menu setting).
I did see a post where somebody said they had found the gain/volume through some sort of hack and it left there phone with a reverb and backfeed(he did not say how he did it though) ; dont know what the poster really did or if there might some other alternative.
At any rate, I am hoping that a fix can be found especially one where i can hack the registry to experiment or change the gain/volume microphone settings.
Yea, me and my girl damn near argue every time I use the speaker phone. It's pretty inconvenient not being able to use it.
I know that I was also having an issue with my Bluetooth volume and I fixed that in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359098&page=4
I'm not sure if there's any registry settings in the same general area as the Bluetooth that would control the speaker volume. I'm surprised the super-sleuths here at XDA haven't figured out a way around this yet.
Get crackin' fellas!!!
i guess that nobody has done or either can do anything for that shame on htc once more

bro u have the argument only when u use speaker phone....i have this argument whenever i talk to her even normally.....using the mic.....she says my earlier phone was 100 times better than this....whats the fun of buy so expensive one if we cant even talk.... i just hope i get some fix before i have a break-up ....)
i have tried almost all the radios available in the sticky......but nothing helped...(only made it worst sometimes)
You all need to change your Radio, I have had that with my tilt but after flashing and experimenting with a couple of radios it is OK now, not great but the other party can hear much better now and I did test it with my land line good quality.
i have tried all the radios but to no avail......anyother clue??????
just to get this on the top
seems like no one has a working solution for this issue??? or is it just no one cares ???

Changing the radio does not resolve the problem; the following link/thread shows various radios were tried and never resulted in resolution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337931&page=5
You also use the phrase :"it is ok now; not great" which leaves one to wonder if you really fixed as there have been "few" times that my speaker will operate "ok;but not great" but the caller still complains about me cutting in/out or has trouble understanding - most of the time the other caller cannot hear me or say i am garbled.
Also, the above thread also shows the problem was not resolved for users who sent there phone in for repair under warranty even when the phone was "replaced".
As one user said in the above thread:
"Hi:
I have a Tilt, and while I have not tried sending my phone in to the factory, I have done 3 warranty exchanges for this problem. All 3 had the SAME problem, so it seems that this problem is not isolated, and it is widespread "
Some have claimed this might be due to the non duplex design of the speaker meaning a hardware design flaw while others think there might some sort of software problem; but i really dont know; but do know that the problem exists and that a solution to the problem remains elusive and unresolved.
This is a problem with the HTC Hermes too.
1. The speakerphone volume is waaay too loud (even at softest setting).
2. The other party cannot hear you when you use the speakerphone.

Faulty speaker... perhaps?

Hi,
First post, so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I wanted to find out if anyone else is having trouble with the speaker and microphone on an S730?
I eventually received my handset from O2 UK (XDA Atmos) and managed to make 2 voice calls before the speaker stopped working. I can place calls but I can't hear a thing (completely silent), and I no longer have any key tones.
On investigation, it works fine using the supplied headset, and if I grip the phone in a particular way so to gently squeeze the top section, the speaker works again.
I've googled until I'm sick and can't find any references to this on a 730, but quite a few on the 710. Anyone else had this problem.
Oh, and just to really annoy me, O2 are out of stock, so their next day replacement is going to take 18 days!
If pressing on the case kicks it back in it sounds like something is not connecting properly anymore, its possible you could fix it but I would go for the replacement. Does the external speaker still work? I have not seen any other threads about this issue but I am sure we will.
It's hard to tell but I believe the external speaker works as it does ring. However, I'm not able to switch it to speaker phone mode. Doing so does nothing. I also seem to have more luck placing calls than receiving them.
I guess I'll just have to wait for the replacement. Bit annoying that my 'loan phone' from O2 is a nokia 6300 though - hardly comparable! Just hoping the replacement doesn't suffer the same problems...
You sir are the first one to report this issue that I have seen, doesnt mean its not but I wouldnt bet on it being too widespread of an issue. Sounds more like something went wrong in shipping / production and you got unluckey Hope your replacement shows up soon!
Well, my replacement finally turned up today..... and it works just fine. Let's hope it was indeed a one off, or damage in transit, or cosmic rays or something.

no ringtone after a while

Hi!
I have a very strange problem... after a while I have no ringtone (sound) any more.... I select a tune, it works ... but after a while there is no sound when a I receive a incoming call..
Sms, email sound etc are ok, but no ringtone with a incoming call....
When I do a hard reset, everything is ok for a while .... but after a xx period
its gone again ...
Suggestions ? I've done no reg tweaks etc..
Suggetions ?
I experience the same problem after disconnecting my bluetooth earphone.
Same here, "sometime" after disconnect BT stereo headset, my phone go muted. even adjust volume doesn't screen doesn't hv sound. Problem occur randomly. hard reset didn't help. I get around 10% chance to hit the problem after using my BT.
Please see my thread they are related!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399430
so it might be a BT problem .... any solutions found ?
My phone just loses audio altogether after a period of time. I am not using BT, havent even setup a headset for use yet. MP3 plays but no sound. SMS no sound. System Event no sounds. Incoming call ringtone doesnt play. Call conversation i get no sound. I can't figure what triggers it. Phone can just be in sleep mode, i receive a phone call and no ring. Even adjust the volume sliders and then it will lose audio straight away.
Another strange audio issue i have is the Alarm doesnt work. Alarm will start to play but then device will freeze after 1 second of trying to play the alarm tone. Soft reset is the only way to fix it, after which it will lose audio again after a while. Have already done numerous hard resets and run a clean device with no programs or tweaks applied. SAME ISSUE!!!! I can put up with a laggy interface but no audio renders the phone a brick! Please help!
Someone a suggestion for the problem?
Xivius is ur problem similar to mine? Or is urs the Bluetooth issue mentioned by the others? i been running round in circles. HTC Aust told me to go back to TW. Taiwan told me call Singapore. Singapore told me to call Vietnam HTC Support cos apparently thats where my unit originates from. bought it off ebay so wouldnt know
Xivius, did you got that problem fixed?

I'm now using wired handsfree, same problem happen! seems not BT, it's more related to the HTC music player?
My story is exactly the same as bds008. I have disabled the vibration as much as I know and it seems to help a little but not all together. My phone mutes mostly when I am answering a call, but also on more occasions. It seems quite randomly.
I don't use BT at all and I haven't installed anything 3th-party wise.
I want to contact HTC Netherlands about this, but as I am in the middle of moving to a new home, I haven't found the time yet. I don't want to try 1.37 because of the warranty. (And I would like to keep it Dutch....)
Any updates on this problem ? Solutions ?
xivius, i had to send my unit back, they reckon its gonna take 10 business days to test and repair, if its a confirmed hardware fault unit they will give me a replacement unit. Kinda dissapointing considering the phone can be considered Dead on Arrival. Looks like i wont see my phone for at least another 2 weeks, and i only had it three days.

If your running an older rom then perhaps you should look into flashing the Diamond with a newer rom and see if that fixes the problem. But if you want to keep your warranty then why dont you send it back??. Get HTC to fix it or send it back to where you got it from and demand a new replacement.
REason i say this is because you posted this thread nearly a week ago and as of today...no one has a solution but yet you still have the phone??. Seriously if it was me, the phone would have gone back straight away for a replacement or refund.
Seems like it's getting more people into this problem. 1st i thought im the only one who caught in this unlucky unit. I explained in numerous forum no one seems to know the causes or what da fark im talking about. I did an update to 1.37 too and it's doesn't work either.
Yes the phone "TOTAL MUTED" randomly, particularly after conversation. Only soft reset can restore the sound. Did a few times hard reset too, won't work. Sent back to HTC last week, don't know how long it will take.
Btw i'm glad to know someone actually had this problem, too
p/s: Since i thought im the only one got such bizzare defect unit. So.....
Good to read that 1.37 doesn't bring any solution. I was hesitating to try.
Funny thing is that since I contacted HTC about the exchange procedure, my Diamond hasn't muted spontaniously anymore! it seems that it has become attached to me...
Today I've sent my Diamond to HTC (via 2call.nl) for repair ... lets hope they will give me a new one fast ...

I've had my device for 2 days and have upgraded to 1.37. I confirm I have the same problem where the phone doesn't ring at all no matter what the settings. I haven't even switched on bluetooth yet so it can't be that in my case.
If I have "ring", no sound, the unit just flashes. If I have "ring and vibrate", the unit vibrates perfectly; again, no sound. In other words, no combination of events brings up the sound. The sound is perfect when in the ringtone selection screen though.
Since there are a few people with this problem, it may be that it's a ROM issue. Since we all got our phones from different places at different times, it's unlikely to be a manufacturing fault...
Here's hoping for a solution from someone ....
Regards,
Gary.
Folks,
I've just discovered the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399430&highlight=Ringtone
In post #30, I found the answer to my problem
Basically, I didn't realise that the HTC volume control manages Windows and PHONE volume seperately (why the heck can't they put both on the same screen like with the WM volume control )
I really hope that others with the same problem in the thread can fix their problems with this!
Regards,
Gary.
Gary, glad to hear ur problems been fixed. I had my phone 3 days and its been sent back to HTC taiwan, they gonna take 2-3 weeks to get it back to me apparently. I checked out the thread you are talking about, obviously i can't test it now, but im sure it shouldnt make a difference if you use HTC volume control or the windows volume control. And yes i did know thw HTC one can control either phone or system separately. Basically i could get the phone to fault and lose sound just by sliding the HTC volume slider up and down, or when it did fault, sliding the HTC volume slider and setting it to vibrate and back up again made no diff, so i dont think it has to do with this? Hopefully my replacement or maybe even repaired unit dont have the same prob. Maybe those that have the prob and still have the phone can test out the suggested fix and report.

Diamond automatically calls

Hello,
Recently I started using windows media player in my diamond and it was working really good. But for about a week now my phone have been starting to call up random people in my phonebook, several times in a row. I always put the phone in lock mode and put the phone to sleep. But still it continues to call up people and it's kinda annoying when your friends get pissed because your phone accidentely called them up at 6am in the morning haha.
Anyone else have the same problem?
I am pretty sure that you are using some extUSB adapter ( 3in1 ) and that is the reason. If it is poor quality the cables very often loose the isolation and in result occasionaly connect causing effect like with normal headset and double click of active button which is normally redial.
I hope I helped
Awesome reply
I checked my headset and you were right. I pushed the headset button and it automatically redialed. Can I configure this setting so it won't happen again?
Best Regards
i also having this problem....anyone help?
Same here.
There are other threads about this problem.
Still looking for a solution like, let's say a registry hack that disables the headset button...
HELP
i have the same problem and i have nothing connected with the device locked so it couldn't be me.
can someone make some software to stop all calls unless code is entered.
