Theres a app in the market called Torrent-fu. Does what all the other torrent programs do, but a little more like it can stop and start torrents. Where the others cant and the best part is that its free.
Transdroid does the same. using the miniui you can do start/stop from your browser also. I still prefer BarTor though
So... what does it do?

Allows you to monitor your torrents from your G1. (assuming you use utorrent... I think its just for utorrent... I could be wrong on that one.)
i still dun get it.....
can u be more specific plz ><""
like kazaa, limewire, napster but better
torrents= files you can download
Utorrent (other programs exist, just don't know the names)= controls the downloading of torrents
xD unless he lives in a cave in Himalaya I think he knows what is torrent
On any torrent client nowaday you can activate the webserver option
with this you can control add stop your torrents from your G1.
Example:
You have your torrent client running at home.
You are at you friend's house when he looks for some good series.
You don't have and usb stick or HDD on you.
Instead of writting down the name of the serie.
just add it to you bittorent client via your G1.

If you like PHP..
There's also another PPC webserver called PocketHPH which will let you run PHP scripts on the phone: http://mobileleap.net/hph
Pretty neet, free for personal use. I've messed with it before, but haven't reinstalled it since reflashing.. Looking at the site, they've apparently updated it with fopen() support, which kicks ass. Now I can write webapps for my phone which interact with my website (also PHP)
w00t!

Be nice if this was useful with the cheap data plans from ex-Cingular, but alas, natted.. I kept thinking "It'd be nice to be able to pop a quick connection to my phone and look at some status" but just won't work.
Tried Hamachi?
There's a PPC Hamachi client which is free.. Then you get VPN capabilities, no more NAT, poof.. Access to your mobile from a computer! The only downside is that Hamachi has to be installed on the computer you're accessing from..
HTH,
--Weasel
EDIT: http://www.hamachi.cc is the address.
EDIT 2: Hard to find from the main page, it's actually here: https://secure.logmein.com/labs.asp (near the bottom)
EDIT 3: For those lazy types: https://secure.logmein.com/labs/hamachi-0.0.3.1.cab
I found this: OpenSSH ported to Windows CE!
http://www.codeplex.com/wiki/view.aspx?projectname=CESSH
It's alpha, at v0.0.1..
Download link is a weird AJAXy popupish thing, so I can't grab the URL without some legwork, and I'm feelin' kinda mellow (read: lazy) right now.. but no registration required, just click the "Download Now" button on the right..
About to d/l and try it out.. Hope it works!

Hmm, VPN. Yeah, that could work. I wouldn't use whatever solution the above is, most likely, but a general VPN could do the trick as long as it reconnects on its own and such. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ok we've all seen Thunderhawk,Opera-mini and the famous/infamous Skyfire (why no europe yet? grr)
Anyways, these browsers aquire your requested page on a proxy server at some location, render it there and send you whats basically an image of that rendering. That's all nice and all but in some cases Country locked services wont work on a proxy server in another country. E.g. Opera-mini's proxy seems to be located in Norway, so lets say your using a service like Pandora mobile (not that I do is US locked) you cant see it on your phone because it thinks your in Norway.
There are other services that act weird when you want to proxy them.
So back to my point. Is there any software out there that lets you do this on your own server/home PC? i.e something that can download a webpage, render it and sent it on in a mobile readable way
I've been using UCWeb lately. It doesn't render pages well all the time, but it's fast as hell. It's great for news, etc. and there is a .cab for both Smartphone and PPC.

I don't think you're going to get that unless someone on XDA makes it. Companies like Opera and Skyfire Labs aren't going to let you choose your proxy because they'll use those stats for targeting ads towards you. They can say they won't all they want but that's really hard to believe seeing as tho that's how they can make money off of free products. Letting your use your own server or (even worse in their eyes) your home pc disconnects that revenue stream.

Besides the ones you mentioned? No, there isn't. You could write your own, I assume that in Linux it wouldn't be too hard to write a program to render a page, capture an image, and then send it somewhere. However, you would have to write your own browser software for the PPC. Chances are, anything you came up with would be a lot buggier and less feature rich than something like Skyfire.
The inherent limitation of "re-rendered" mobile browsers is speed. Chances are, Skyfire's servers and internet connection are a whole lot faster than your home PC's. If you want speed, use Opera Mini or Opera Mobile.
i use pie but i switch between netfront and both versions of opera(not mini) depending on what i'm doing.most of my usage stays with netfront though.

Hmm sounds interesting. Pity, my programming experience isn't great for Linux or WinMo.... But with the imminent release of Android on a HTC (any day now we're led to believe) perhaps some one will develop such a system? It'd be nice.
I even wouldn't mind paying a developer for just such a system
As for connection speed at home, not a problem, I have a 20-50Mb cable and 100Mb fibre connection . Also at the rate DSL and cable speeds are increasing these days (at least in cites) I don't think connection speed would be a major issue.
Another nice idea for skyfire, opera etc would be localised proxy servers.
i already have touch flo3d and windows mobile voice command
THPS2...
my top five.
i have a bunch of apps.
i mostly use the following:
G-alarm
evernote
i-nigma (bar code reader)
qik (live video broadcasting from your phone)
the you tube panel.
and now i guess im using the point home 2 ui instead of touch flo3d.
you can find all (or most) if you just use the foruM search
I m using Resco contact manager which is my personal favourite especially because I like the today screen ..and have been playing around with morphgear a little which isnt bad .. here is the link to the contact manager if u want to try it
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/contactmanager/default.asp
must haves..
wmvwifi router.. i use old free beta.
www.mymobiler.com to remote control from pc
total commander (for registry and ftp access)
http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php for som old point and click games.
depend on your interests really
like I installed a program which would let me detect in which direction to point my sat disc
to get various channels
but people without sat discs would find limited usesage for such and app
much like I would find little usage for a plane spotting app which told me which times I should hit out to the airport to see some rare type of plane
for pure brain storm these types of threads work wonders giving you an impression of whats out there
but if you got some special interest then
searching on google for
<what ever> pocketpc
like
paint pocketpc
often works wonders pocketpc in one word works better with google then
windows mobile because it's 2 words and having windows in any search give way
too many pc windows hits

This app doesn't seem to be supported on the X1. Did you use an install from a different phone? I think it looks pretty cool, and I'd love to use it, but no amount of google searching is providing me with the answer here.
I have got navigation software on my X1 and I often use it for navigation during the trip to a new place. It saves me money on buying a new navigator and saves me another carrier. Isn't is cool?
Maybe I'm not using the right keywords. I'm looking for an app or simple method on how to browse files on a PC and copy them over 3G/EDGE or WiFi outside the PC network to the G1s SD card.
I was thinking VNC but I don't want all the extra features, just file browsing. I run high resolution dual monitors and its way to slow over VNC to even browse.
Thanks
There are a number of decent FTP programs for Android out there. Set up a simple FTP server on your computer at home, and log in via your G1. Should work fine over Edge/3G.

YEAH!!! FTP thats what I was looking for!! Late and the word was on the tip of my tongue but just couldnt grasp it. Thanks!
Anytime
Even though this is not exactly what you're looking for, Gmote is a really great app where you can view your home files from your phone. It's mainly for streaming music and viewing images, but you can see other files, though I don't think you can copy (yet?), but it's an awesome app.
As for FTP, I use AndFTP and it works great.

But can Gmote let me view the files at my home even if I'm in a different state?
This FTP setting up is confusing. Any recommendations for some simple FTP servers?
Not to take over the thread, but what about an app to see and play things from a samba share? (Music, videos, pictures.) It'd make a nice MP3 player if it can "hold" terrabytes of info. hehe

I user IIS that comes with Vista Ultimate. Not sure what other versions it comes with though.
Is there anything for Android similar to Serv u? (http://www.serv-u.com/)
They have an Iphone app / interface that supports there ftp.
Anyone?
I have a website that uses AppCache and I would like to know if the IE engine in Windows Phone 8/8.1 supports AppCache/Local Storage/IndexedDB.
It's more of a scripting IDE than a web page and if it works correctly it will store about 5 megs of web files into an AppCache so it could work offline. You would probably need to delete/clean internet files if you want to get rid of that.
The web page is at :
http://www.obeliskos.com/TridentSandbox
At the top left (if it works correctly) you will see status for LS (local storage), IDB (indexedDB), and AC (AppCache) ... the appcache should show downloading and then idle.
Can someone test and let me know what the status information of LS/IDB/AC are.... or if you use it, how well it works? There's a samples browser button (second from right under help) if it lets you load all the samples.
Thanks
LS/IDB/AC all work great! WP8, IE10. Haven't had a chance to really play with it yet, but you will probably want to make it more mobile-friendly. We don't have meta-keys on the phone.
hah, your all over this forum and once again with good info, thanks!
Yea I was thinking of using it just as a viewer to run prg files created on tablet/desktop and saved to skydrive. I think xbox one IE also fully supports and that has skydrive and possibly keyboard/mouse as well. I guess it might be good cross-platform for simple user programs.
Looks like I have a reason to upgrade my phone sometime soon now
