Winmo 6.5 is now final - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Microsoft has has finally finished work on Windows Mobile 6.5, so we should hopefully start seeing bug free roms in the next few weeks.
A tweet from the Windows Mobile Development Team says it all, "For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE... complete... looks really good IOHO and every bit functional."

It's a very good news , so now wait and see !

Hmm shouldn't we already have a version somewhere. What I mean is isn't someone already testing it?
Any ideas what is different or is it just final bug fixes etc?

Normally, such a great thing isn't just released, but there are RC (release candidates) beforehand. I don't know whether the WM6.5 roms here are already based on these release candidates, or if they are based on some real beta roms, but I guess there won't be any major differences.

What they actually meant to say was "For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE... complete... looks really good IOHO and every bit functional except we can't get the damned alarm to work."

The alarm works in Miri V12, but you have to set the alarmtone in settings>sound&...>reminders instead of setting the alarmtone under clock.

doohh! Microsoft finished winmo 6.5 our miri finished 12 and i bet they all are better than the "original" one

now thats just being unnecessarily cynical!
what they meant to say was:
For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE (although we will update the build every 12 hours)... complete (apart from the missing bits)... looks really good (but Manila/spb/pointUI look better) IOHO and every bit functional (providing you don't wont everything to work) however the ONE thing we did do was fix the alarm (we think??).
at least its no a Google product it would be in permenant BETA if it was!!

forget 6.5 - bring on wm7.0 - I know betas are out there already!!!

THat is a VEry great news i cant wait for the new roms based on the new build(not beta at last)

There is??

The fact that they have released WM6.5 is great news. Means all cooks can use a non-beta version. I doubt very much that it will be bugless and agree with an earlier post that Miri's rom is probably better. I look forward to a lot more WM6.5 cooked roms.

Hi Fallen Spartan,
i totally agree, do you know (as you often BETA test for him) is Dutty working on a WinMo 6.5 ROM yet?
He is my favourite chef even though i am on a Miri ROM at the moment this is only because i wanted to try 6.5
hoping he can weave his magic on the latest builds

You are correct. He plans to take a rest now, possibly a week or 2 and then start working on WM6.5 rom. He has told me this before and released a rom within a week so I would keep an eye out as you never know with Throy. Complete workaholic!!

Hang on we're talking about a ported Core and build to a device that is obviously never intended to run it
I dont think there's such a thing as a "bug free" ROM! what bugs are we talking about?
The bare WM6.5 seems pretty damn good in terms or stability and bugs (bar the damn alarm issue) seems to me the main issues are when HTC Manila, dialer, album etc etc from other device are cooked in that the real problems occur and since they will never be compatible with HD how much more "bug free" will it get than now?
Is there any WM6.1 ROM that is "bug free"?

that is the smartphone version NOT the ppc version. there is NO real video or else for ppc version...
we'll see once the chef's start integrating the new os if the speed hype is for real, honestly thats all i'm looking for. oh and if it's not too much to ask i'd like my left softkey to go back to "new" in messaging like WM5. i could care less for individual message delete as clearing a whole folder does the trick for me =)
Of course the PPC version will be better-looking since PPCs are better than smartphones.

WinMo 6.5 on HTC Touch HD?

Hey all
What do you reckon the chances are that when the next Win Mobile version 6.5 comes out, we'll be able to put it on the HD? The early previews look like it could really fix a lot of the current WinMo issues...but will there be an update for the HD?

Hi SatScan. Can you elaborate please? Are you saying that in fact it won't be easy to update the HD to WM6.5, but we'll need to wait until WM7? Do you think WM7 is likely to be much more resource intensive, such that the memory and CPU of the HD wont be adequate?

Windows Mobile 6.1 supports WVGA already, so why 6.5 should not support it?
Yesterday I've tried the beta WM6.5 build that is floating on the web. I hope that what I've seen is all due to the beta state of the build.
Many many things don't work. For example, g-sensor doesn't work, camera doesn't work, all "not hardware buttons"(phone button, home button...), work like softkey...
But I've to say that yesterday was only a try, I've done all in a speedy way. I'll try other things in these days. I hope these things can be fixed.

Windows 7, Windows mobile 7 and office 14 are all very likely to be released at the same time, late 2009 / v.v.v.early 2010 latest January.
Yes, but as I've said for now all it's really buggy. The principal problem is that autorun doesn't work with this build, then many things releted to it don't work.
In addition, I've tried to use some of the cabs to make working the new WM6.5 today but for now it doesn't work, when I install them I do a soft reset then the device freeze before opening the today, same thing if I cook they directly into the rom. I've tried in different ways but for now nothing to do.
But I'll see what I can do in the next days.

pros and cons of WM 6.1 and 6.5

Hey everyone
I am trying to figure out which version of WM is best for the my phone. What are the pros and Cons of 6.1 vs 6.5?
and what are the best builds I can get for both? I have 2 Kaiser phones (HTC 8925) and would like to install 6.1 on one and 6.5 on the other to see which works best for me.
Thanks

6.1 is official and stable, 6.5 is unofficial and beta therefore there are some stability issues . Some roms more than others.
Beyond that , with two Tilts, lucky you. Put a stable 6.1 on one to use everyday and with the other, try every rom that looks and sounds good until you find the one that works for you.

Yeah I don't recommend 6.5 anymore. It screws up all the time.
wow, Intresting I have been playing around with 6.5 currently and I do really like the new Start menu in 6.5 (the larger buttons are fantastic) over 6.1 start menu.

Don't stay on 6.0, you might as well use two cups and a string to make calls. There are a lot of really nice things about 6.5 that I like a lot. Finger friendliness is one of them. But since we don't have an official version yet, everyone is experimenting and pushing the limits. " let's take this puppy out for a spin and see what it'll do " kind of thing. Chefs are not going for a nice safe stable version of 6.5. They are leaving that up to M$.
I use stylez' Black rom ( check sig ) it is as good as 6.1 gets. But I have also used shifu's v17, abusalza's X v.9, TPC's Elite v6 and mbarvian's Solice v3.1, also all good roms. Flash them all and see wnat you like best.
I ran duttys last rom for almost a year with only having to reset 2 times. You can't do what with a 6.5.

Soft or hard? If that's soft, did you have routine soft resets and you only had to manually reset twice, or do you just not actually run anything.

Alright so I am now on "tylez' Black rom" and so far it is my favorite Rom.
is there a user manual for Touch Flo some where?
I installed the M2DC and am getting ready to play with differnt Themes. but I am having hard time customizing the touch flo.
but my main Question is under the "Programs" Tab in touch flow I would like to add a button that links to a certain File Directory. I can add File Exploer there, but not a set file directory. I created a Shortcut to the file and tried to add that but it didn't work. any Ideas? Ideally under that "program tab I'd like to add a link to the "Games Directory"
any help?
I ran all sorts of things, and all I did were a couple of hard resets.

Funny you say that. I was going to comment (And know I guess I am) that The 6.5 start menu is the only thing keeping me from using 6.5. The 6.1 start menu self organizes. The programs I use tend to stay at the top of the list. If it's not there, then I can go to the programs tab.
I wouldn't rule out HTC WM 6.0 ROMs

Maybe this is an AT&T Tilt ROM or network specific thing because I've found WM 6.0 to be the most reliable hands down out of the numerous WM HTC WWE ROMs I've evaluated and even one WM 6.5 Customised ROM. My calls are reliable and clear and there don't seem to be the same 'screen flash' issues coming out of powersaving mode and occasional silent ring tones that the WM 6.1 ROMs gave me.
It's not the fastest in terms of GUI performance but as far as GPS performance is concerned people may as well use a sextant, almanac and maps to navigate because it'll be quicker than many GPS equipped ROMs using WM 6.1 and 6.5. This is because WM 6.1 and 6.5 ROMs require different radio firmware than the original WM 6.0 ROMs and these new Radios are weaker at/allocate less power to receiving the satellite signals.
It depends on what the owners priorities and intended uses for the phone are, as to which ROM is most suitable.
Nothing to do with the actual topic

Used with TPC's and Abusalza's 6.5 naked or stripped versions, and the performance was very good. I wouldn't try to use it with full versions as it will have to compete with , Manila, MotoHome, and or Titanium/cHome for resources.
I've been using this 6.5 rom

REQ: German ROM based on the final Windows Mobile 6.5

Hi,
I would very much like to see a German ROM with the final version of Windows Mobile 6.5, the one we are going to see on October the 6th. I believe it is build 21234, at least that is the one in the SDK.
If possible, I would like the ROM to have all original programs. Nothing should be deleted or added to the image. No tools, no taskmanagers, nothing. No Manila please...
Is it possible to do that? Thank you very much in advance
You have to make a search before posting...see RTT leet rom!
I am using RTT Leet ROMs but this is not what I asked for. I have searched and found nothing! I just want a normal WinMobile build based on the final RTM version of Windows Mobile. Everybody here is cooking much later builds which I don't find very good. They are also removing ringtones, programs and I hate that. I wish I could have an original Windows Mobile ROM with no extra stuff.

Ask buddy count h's a German Cook see here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534534" and ask him self to cook a rom for you
I don't think that anyone here would make a ROM just for me. Maybe I should learn to do it myself. I just don't understand why people aren't interested in the final Windows Mobile 6.5 build and like things like Manila. If someone likes Windows Mobile, then he/she should see that Manila is nothing but a threat to Windows Mobile..(and it is slow, just a bad copy of the iPhone). I am sorry but I can’t follow you about the manila.. Manila is just a skin that sits on the WM platform. Manila wouldn’t function if it would not use the data Base given by WM OS. However said that if you don’t like it..Then you just disable it and you have the pure WM
That is unfortunately not correct. There are still things in the ROM that do not belong to the pure WM OS. As I said before I just wish to have a ROM based on the final WM 6.5 OS. How difficult is that?

No official 6.5 ROM on T8282.
Mean no disrespect, newer doesn't always mean better. Especially when the hand-held device used on daily, real time based events.
It really sucks when you are checking up your schedule, the mobile phone went froze, with someone waiting your answers.
IMHO, stability, quick response are much more important than newer version. MS please give us one...8(

Well that's definitely TRUE! But you know that is why normally you should wait for other people to comment before installing them. You will find out whether they are seriously bug or rock stable. I dont know which ones you are using? but I have been using the latest Energy 23554 with GTX theme, and never had a single problem (crash or restart). In fact the GTX version look awesome! You need to remember most of the ROMs here are built from Non-official ROM or betas...so dont expect to be perfect!

Actually most of the Blackstone owners have been hoping for a free upgrade, including myself. Unfortunately I think HTC dont like that idea, maybe because it will affect the sales of their newer HTC Leo. But anyway...i dont really care now...since we have this great forum anyway...
okay i'll give energy 23557 a try and see how it goes
Really no point on upgrading. HTC is bussy creating other phones (mainly Android since WM is dead).
Can someone provide a single thing that we gain with WM 6.5?
I mean the OS itself, not a ROM based on WM 6.5 that comes with updated manilla, Opera, Office etc,. You can install any app on AM 6.1 too.
WM 6.1 uses less RAM, leaving more for the apps (on 6.5 I start with 50% used and after a while even after closing all apps, 65% used). And the start menu has a MRU app list that makes very fast to switch from one app (open or not) to another. I still have to see how WM 6.5 is better in any aspect.
