Does anyone know if there's a piece of software that I could use to "switch off" the side volume buttoms completely???
I've got a problem that makes the "volume up" buttons stick and continually turn the volume screen on which is a nightmare. Tried to get it fixed with Orange who sent me to HTC direct as the phone is 9 months old. HTC are refusing to fix the phone as I've put "illegal" firmware on it and they are claiming it is this software that has buggered up the volume buttons. Thing is I put the stock orange rom on the phone before I sent it back to them, but I did leave Hard SPL on!! (DOH!) - would they still be able to tell if I'd put a custom rom on the device?
if anyone knows if there's a piece of software available or who knows what I could try in the registry to fix the problem it would be massively appreciated as my phone is currently a rather fancy paper-weight
anybody??
guess I'm gonna have to play with the registry

My powerbutton is broken so I can't put my phone in bootloader mode anymore. I've got WM5 installed and activesync 4.1. Does anyone know if there is a possibility to put my phone in to bootloader mode without using the 3 button combination? Like with software or something?
BTW I must say that WM5 works just fine with me!
the power button broke on my xdaiis and I took the thing
apart and realigned switch..
all great since.. you need the swith to turn the screen bcak on
The thing is that the button had come off totaly. When I opened the phone it fell out. Somehow the button was damaged too, so it can't be pressed anymore.. The other alternative is to get let it fix, but that will cost me about 80 euro. And I don't need the button for anything else since I havesoftware to turn it off, and the phone also starts (if battery taken out) when you soft reset it. Whith the older versions of windows mobile it would go in to bootloader mode using just the installer, but since WM5 this doesn't work anymore.

The buttons are documented here

You can try to write in the appropriate registers
and look if it helps.
Alright my At&t tilt front face buttons started to not work (i could only use the arrow buttons and the ok button) and my keyboard stopped working but the arrow keys would. i upgraded the rom after calling htc for help. that didnt fix a thing and now today none of the buttons work. i keep getting the PTT to come up and ask for installation and edfc keeps typing themselves on the screen. so idk if it is a software problem or if the hard ware is malfunctioning.
Damn, I got the same problem. Does anybody know how to fix this?
the same problem here... :/
same problema here.
i already tried another radio, another SPL, another ROM and nothing.
any idea?
Just updating.
Yesterday my tytn started working perfectly again, but today the same problem is occuring. I did nothing, so probably is really a hardware issue.
I have a similar problem.
Send/End + Soft Keys + Keyboard are not working. The issue is not resolved yet?
Wow, this problem just happened to me as well. I've searched everywhere on the net and couldn't find anything.
So is this a pervasive issue? Anyone with any hint as to what might be the source of the problem?
Originally, I thought it the PTT button was stuck in the PRESSED position because the phone behaves as if this button was constantly being pressed. For example my PTT button was mapped to Voice Recorder if the PTT button was held down. The voice recorder constantly comes on everytime I turn the phone on!!

I have the exact same problem.
The only change I recently made (two weeks ago) was installing tom tom navigator.
First I thought it was a virus and I installed bull guard, but with no success.
It opens/closes the start menu every second, no buttons work apart from the directional buttons and it writes "edfc" in my textmessages when I turn on/off the screen with the power button.
Most of the time(!) this irritating opening/closing of the start menu only happens after I first turn off/on the screen (with the power button).
I saw this problem described in a post dating back almost two years ago. Someone ought to know the answer to our problems. What does HTC say about it?
I have been lucky and not had this issue yet; but I would recommend starting by flashing the stock rom from HTC. Then hard reset; that will clear everything back to original. If you still experence this after that, then you have a hardware issue. Good luck
This just happened to me this morning. I cant use any buttons and nothing is popping up. This is soo wierd cause the phone was just sitting there overnight!!
Me too...
I have been going nuts with this issue for a couple months now. Makes the phone unusable half the time. I am so disappointed to find that a ROM reload doesn't fix it!! I remapped the 6 key to none and that sort of helps but it was mapped to Voice record before and it would constantly record memos until all the memory was gone in the phone and then it would all crash from there. So frustrating.
I too get the edfc message after I reboot....
It really seems like a virus the way it acts but I guess if it is a hardware issue then it's not a virus.
Anyone ever figure anything out with this? Nothing has changed on my phone recently.
Still an issue?
Holy Toledo fellow Tilt Users. Have you ditched your half-functioning touchscreen, or have we figured out how to solve this issue.
Recently I FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM!
I am going to do what was suggested (original HTC Rom & hard reset) and will let you know if I get the rest of my keyboard back...
All buttons except for power and... NOT WORKING
Outside "Enter" buttons work but they are mapped to Windows key. ? Weird. For some reason the kaiser thinks it is something else. I do not know how it got this way, but there must be a way to convince the hardware of the existence of all my other buttons. The entire keyboard does not work.
Hard Reset & stock HTC Rom did not help. I was surprised that I could hard reset it at all since the two soft buttons are unresponsive to software.
Anyone figure this out yet?
Hi, I got the same issue today as well - Has anyone got rid of this?
hi,
My hardware buttons are dying. My end call button is not responding at all anymore.
Testing them with NavDbgTool.exe I found that the touch capability of the surface around the end call button is not working.
Is there any connection with the touch to make the action of the button?
Does any of you have the same problem?
Attached find the testing tools.
same end call button problem
I am having the same prob with end call button not working on my HTC Diamond Touch. I'm using Duttys V4 ROM. did u find a fix?
I've had a worse problem..
my volume up key was sticking to the point were the phone was unusable. Rang Orange as the phone is 9 months old to be told that i'll have to send it to HTC as Orange only do a 6 month warranty?
and here's the stinger, rang HTC who told me they'd collect the phone, they have now sent me a quote for £216 to fix the phone with a new motherboard after they said I've illegally tried to install a firewall. Thing is although installed a few custom roms before reverting back to the stock orange rom I've no idea what they mean by the firewall?? i've not to my knowledge installed any firewall software on the device?? - and to top it off, if I don't want them to do the repairs i've gotta pay £14 to get the bloody thing back!!
not a happy HTC camper
Hey everybody,
I was going out yesterday and I was in a bar when I tried turning on the screen of my Diamond, but nothing happened. I wasn't able to turn on the screen at all. So I pushed the soft-reset button, but again nothing seemed to happen. I didn't think too much of it, but this morning it still doesn't do antyhing. I managed to find out the following: it does seem to respond to volume keys being pressed; because I can hear the sounds and it will vibrate when I hold it down. The light thing seems dead, because it doesn't light up when I'm charging it. Also, I'm still able to set up ActiveSync connection and even flash different ROMS.
Any hints on what to do here? My device doesn't have ensurance or anything, and it was hard-SPL'd + SIM unlocked, so will guarantee cover this? (Device is not older than 6 months)
Kind regards,
ToxicWasted
Seems like a hardware problem, so you have to send it on guarantee but be sure to flash stock ROM and SPL back. If you need to use the screen of your phone try a program called My Mobiler.
I have read many threads about the issues that the Nexus One has with the power button. I feel that my situation is a little different, so I wanted some opinions on this. My power button is completely unresponsive. I can't use it to turn the phone on, wake or lock my screen when the phone is on, etc. My phone has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. I am currently using the track ball to wake my phone, so I'm not having any real issues with day to day operations of my phone. I was completely convinced this was a hardware issue (and still am), but I wanted to be 100% sure it was a hardware issue before contacting HTC. I downloaded Quick Boot from the android market which allows you to reboot your phone, boot your phone into your Bootloader, and boot your phone into Recovery. I decided to boot my phone into Bootloader mode to see if the power button would work there. The power button didn't work in the Bootloader, but neither did the volume button (prior to this test, I had no issues with the volume rocker at all). I pulled the battery and let the phone boot up to check and make sure the volume button was still working when the phone was running. Once the phone was booted up, I had no issues with the volume controls. My question is why would the volume rocker not work in the Bootloader? Also, could the issue that prevents the volume rocker from working in the Bootloader be preventing the power switch from working while the phone is booted up? If there is a chance that it's a software issue, how would I test/correct the issue? Thanks your help.
Most people I have seen complain about that problem, send the phone back for a free repair because it's a hardware problem.
The best way to test it is to flash a stock rom.
Thank you, I will try reflashing the FRF91 stock firmware and see what happens. Thanks.
Definatly sounds like the power button is broken. I had one like that. Send it back for a repair/replacement.
I've checked my immediate suspicion, and it turned out to be correct - so I'm posting the result:
Your power button is actually stuck in "ON" position (pressed).
Anyone can test it, press the power button to wake up the screen, keep it pressed, every operation is allowed in the system and volume buttons work. But when you reboot and try the same in bootloader, having power button ON disables the rest of the buttons.
My screen doesn't wake when I press the power button. Any other ways to check if it's stuck in the "ON" position?
It's 100% determined by your description. The only other check would be running any kind of SW that shows the current key states, and I'm not aware of any such SW.
I've posted the checking procedure for people with working power buttons, so they can verify the findings.
Any way to fix the issue?
If you're technically inclined and can't use warranty, I suppose that getting to the power button and repairing/replacing it wouldn't be very difficult. But no other way I can think of.
has anyone tried to repair this?

A DIY can not be too difficult and you may be best to search YouTube. It can not be too terribly difficult as long as you can open it up and remove any connecting ribbons (I've had to replace my girlfriends iPhone digitizer due to phone falling out of back pocket onto concrete from three+ feet up). As long as you can open it, you're fine. Just going to need to re-seat the button. Good luck!
Greetings,
I had the same power button issue. I was able to wake my phone using the usb cable whenever the screen timed out but otherwise the phone worked 100% of the time in all ways. I got an RMA and label and shot the phone to them in an anti-static wrap with 4 inches of bubble wrap on all sides and foam padding on top of that. The phone was in perfect condition. Well to cut to the chase. I got a quote of 196.00 because they said there was water damage!? I treated that phone better than I treat my own body! There was no water damage when I sent it in. So one of their folks send me images of a phone that has a broken screen, water damage in the base usb port and no inscription. Interestingly all of the angles avoided showing the ein or s/n. My phone has a laser etched inscription with my name and a couple of bible verses. So what am I supposed to do here? Pay another 196 for an 800 dollar phone that had nothing wrong but a power switch? I am a T-Mobile customer and an Android developer in good standing. What the heck!? Can anyone give me a suggestion on how to get this squared away? My only other option is to send them $28 to get the phone back with the same power button issue. It's even under warranty until Jan 28th.

why dont you contact htc of a nearby country and send them the phone? i know it is being done. of course you will have to arrange for the transport but it's still worth a shot imo
