I'm guessing Opera have setup a proxy to re-encode images to speed up performance. So I'd assume their server is in Germany or something and sites that can tell where you are by your IP think you're there...
afaik opera software is in oslo norway...
all the opera mini traffic runs through a server which transcodes the info and sends it to your phone...so wherever the server is (i'm guessing norway too?) ...that's where websites think you're coming from...
lol this is annoying for sites that think they're being smart and default to another language.. myspace and a few others that I've seen.. seems odd opera wouldn't have some kind of a workaround for this.

if you change the automatic shortcut for myspace to just myspace.com it fixes this issue... for whatever reason the myspace they have bookmarked for you is to the german one.
Hi,
Does anyone else find that when you click on hyperlinks in opera, it can take an absolute age for the request to hit the server? I seem to get a fair amount of the HTTP request timed out messages on many popular sites.
A lot of the time clicking on the links does nothing and you have to keep hitting them until it succeeds.
Once you do finally make a request that hits the server the response is very fast indeed.
The problem is definitely to do with making the requests, its not a case of it sitting around waiting for the browser to render the page.
(am on o2 hsdpa with hsupa enabled)
anyone else?
there are 2 opera browsers one called mobile and one called mini
the one called mini is a java app which transfer all requests passed the opera server for comrpesion to be faster and i guess that can cause latency
ahh,
Im using Mobile 9.5 on the 1.37 rom.
Are you sure that it's opera and not e.g. O2 at fault? Have you tried the same site in PIE?
as rubbish as pocket ie is, i never have the problem in ie or opera mini.
The built in opera browser is chronic slow getting the requests out. Downloading is great but clicking links takes forever.
It's annoying because my P1i was blistering fast and I'm starting to see kinks in the browsing experience on the Diamond.
agreed, even on wifi its the same. waah
Hi All,
Has anyone else noticed that the Kaiser / IE seems to redirect you to a "pda friendly" version of a website.. I found this alot with News Sites and its nothing like the site you get from a standard PC/Desktop. I dont know how it knows I'm searching from my Kaiser and dont like the "pda friendly" pages, is there anyway to override this "feature" - After all I like to think I am getting to the actual website I want and not what "they" want...
It isn't the Kaiser that takes you to the PDA site. When you access the webserver that hosts the site it checks what browser you are requesting the page from.

You can avoid this and see the 'real' web by downloading and installing Opera. There is a setting in opera 9.5b's options to see the full web page rather than the mobile version.
Thanks there - I guess I should have known it was the Sites server etc and not the Kaiser.... So IE can't do it then, not had any experience with Opera so will give it a go (assuming I can find it) also I hear there is a Firefox version around called Minimo but again not used it before and dont know if it can do what Opera can....
Many thanks, will let you know how I get on.
Minimo was abandoned somewhere in 2006 at v0.2, was pretty unusable compared to today's browsers like Opera.
Hi,
Thanks for all the advice, yes I can see the pro's of Opera. Very sleek and lets me see the "proper" web page as opposed to the "pda friendly". Shame about Minimo tho as I like Firefox.... Here's to happy web surfing.

PIE isn't that great... but in these cases the owners of those particular sites have set it up to give a special version of their sites.
Its possible to get to the real version by messing with the user agent... but Opera does it soooooooo much better there isn't really any point. Opera mini 4 is free and works on any java enabled mobile phone (including the kaiser)
Opera Mobile 9.5 is available as a free beta version for windows mobile devices. Eventually they will release a commercial version which they will charge for and this is the one you really want on your kaiser (and should be worth the money!)
Hi Guys I was wondering if theres a way to make skyfire the app that opens when you click the internet button in TF3D. Now that it actually works on VGA devices I like using it over opera. Is there any way to do this?
The first time you fire up Skyfire it should ask you if you want it to be default. If you happend to have missed that or it did not come up you can do it manually by Opening Skyfire tapping menu>setting>then checking the box next to "Set Skyfire as Default Browser".
This should work. Make sure you dont have opera installed. If you do opera wont work any longer. When it asks to make opera the fefault browser say NO or your email links will not open anymore. Please post results.

Go to settings/installed programs and uninstall it. If its cooked in wont be so easy. On the stock rom and several cooked roms its cab installed during customization and easy to get rid of.
Is that really a good idea.. Skyfire kills the battery quicker than anything else that ive tried.
I did make it the default browser but that didnt work. I'll try that downloadable fix in a bit. To the person talking about battery life, i didnt really notice that. I would actually be extremely surprised if skyfire used more battery than opera, since skyfire does all the pre-rendering on their servers and not on your phone, making your processor work alot less. did you actually do a true comparison? meaning if you were watching hulu on skyfire and just browsing websites on opera it is probably going to skew the results.

I have to agree tha skyfire is harder on the battery. However, i find it a far more superior browser. Ill gladly trade the battery for it.
Is there anyway to undo this and get opera back as default without having to reinstall the rom? Or Opera Mobile 9.5 beta for that matter.
Does anyone know how to get the mobile sites to show correctly in Opera Mobile. I attached below screenshots of how they are loading. I would like to get how PIE6 is loading MSN mobile onto Opera Mobile.
I am using Opera Mobile 16277
Thanks
Nothing to do with ROM Develpoment, Kaiser Software/General or maybe in an Opera thread. ROM Development section is meant to be for the title specified.................
Please post in the correct sub forum.
go to the opera forums on their site and ask, doesn't belong here, sorry.
Alright, no need to double team him .
Moved to Kaiser Software.
Just a tip here, as i don't think I'll be followiing this thread:
Microsoft is widely known for having different "sites" for different browsers, so don't expect to see the same thing as you do in IE. It happens for desktops too. Not too long ago, even the HTML and CSS code used to change depending on the browser.
Probably the only way to see a M$ site be shown in Opera in the same way it shows up in PIE is if Opera begins to identify itself as PIE and also begins to behave like it, what I don't think will happen - and honestly hope it won't.
So, if you want to compare browsers, try a more general site, preferrably not ASP-based, then you'll get a fair chance. Having said all that, I agree that it's more likely an issue for the Opera guys.
Good luck!
