Happy Holidays, i'm using [ROM] RoDrIgUeZsTyLe™ 1.8, i've been using this rom for a couple weeks, i've been using his roms for a couple months. For some reason when i try to install apps from my sd card or market, it keeps saying "installing" but never completes. If I download from market it downloads 100% then says installing but never completes. I tried reinstalling some apps from sd card but it keeps saying installing. I wiped twice (factory reset). I went to [ROM] RoDrIgUeZsTyLe™ 1.9 back to 1.8 and same thing.
Also I just bought a 16gb sd card. I've read some say you don't have to partion anymore and i've read some say you need to. If you do, what settings should i use? I didn't know so i just set up 32mb, 512mb ext.2 and remainder ext. 3
But I go to settings and it says total space 14.32bg
Available 9.71gb
A2SD 457 mb

And how much free space in /data and and have you moved dalvik-cache anywhere? If so, how much room there? Especially if you moved Dalvik cache to /cache

thanks for your response.
It claims 102mb available internal memory, i personally don't think that much is available.
As for Dalvik i don't know where it is or anything about it. The only time i've touched it was after rooting once i clicked clear dalvik cache. Should I move dalvik, if so how, how do i find out how much room is on it.?
Earlier after flashing the same rom again, it let me download about 20 apps then it went back to downloading 100% but not letting me install or uninstall anything from market or sdcard.
Not really sure on your problem, but--
Doesn't it say how much a2sd memory free?
How did you partition?
You want 512mb/ext3/no swap, not 32mb
If all worked ok before new card I would--
- backup SD Card
- Format SD Card with "SD Formatter" in a Card reader (FULL erase ON & NEW Size Adjustment ON). You can get it on web. It puts card to original condition.
- create ext3 with above specs. Amon will do that. Rom Mgr seems to do only ext2, however you can verify that with Mini Partition Tool Wizard from web.
-I did ext 2 thru Rom Mgr then used Amon to convert to ext3. Converting 2 to 3 did not wipe sdcard, but making partition will.
- put the backup back to SD
Of course you want USB Debugging enabled and Unknown Sources enable to do all this stuff. May not matter on just a Market app, but have them enabled anyway
Then follow instructions on OP page, if any, to move apps to sdcard. Or, see Dark Tremor web site.
I don't normally put Dalvik on sd, just cache.

sorry for late response Ken, so let me get this right, I downloaded sd formatter. So use this instead of the Amon recovery option Partition SD on my Nexus? I'm confused on the first partion you say should be 512mb then it ask about ext2 what should that be? then for ext 3 put NO SWAP?
And this Dalvik thing, so there's no need to move it to sd card? If so how? You said you just moved yours to cache or cleared the cache? if you moved it can you give me instructions.
Also the rom i'm using is Rod's

getting stuck on "installing" may be a problem with your google account. google still hasnt figured out why its happening. if it happens across different roms, that is probably the case
Ok, long story short, I have 113MB of 'system data' in my /datadata folder (66% full), and I want it gone.
But I can't get rid of it... I've tried a full clean install, I've tried manually formatting /datadata from CWM, and I've also tried formatting boot, cache, data, datadata, and system from CWM followed by a fresh install (Kang 12/17).
My wife has the same phone and ROM and she only has 26% full in /datadata. I can't - for the life of me - figure out how to completely clean /datadata.
One thing I noticed in terminal emulator is that the data in /data and /datadata is about equal to what is listed in /system. However, formatting /system did not clear it out.
Please help as this is driving me insane!
Isn't datadata based on your apps? Like dalvik? I think ur wife just has less apps.

I thought so to, but even with no apps (nothing but what comes with the ROM) I have 3x what she has... and she has what comes with the ROM plus all her other apps.
If it does have to do exclusively with the apps, I'm more than willing to do everything step by step to figure out which app(s) cause my issue, but in order to do that I need to be able to clear the folder of everything except what true system data is necessary and start from square 1.
/datadata is apps settings and data. A little more info might help...

What kind of info do you need, and I'll try and supply it. I'm trying to do a clean install so that all of those app settings and data are starting from scratch. Factory resets didn't do it, formatting the folders through CWM didn't do it...
I must be missing something... but I can't figure out what it is.
Some basic background:
Most recently on the 12/17 Kang (CM7.2 RC0) with the glitch v13 (2.6.35.13) kernel and Gapps 08/28
For the just completed testing I only flashed Gapps (08/28) and the 12/17 Kang so I could see if anything I did worked on clearing /datadata.
Other than that, the only modification I've done to my phone is the modem is KG3 i9000.

The free version should do for deleting data and removing apps.

I had thought of that too... once formatted and I reinstall the ROM and stuff, is it easy enough to just copy those folders back on the phone? That was the one thing I was worried about... and thus I hadn't tried yet.
Formatting always makes me nervous
Are you encountering any issues with it being that full? Or is this just to satisfy your ocd?

As simple as dragging and dropping files. Also nice to start fresh every once in a while to clear out junk from old apps.
I'm getting ready to format my SDcard and start all over... but if I format my SD card, I'll no longer have my ROM zips there to flash. I put the ROMs on my external SD card (emmc), but in CWM I can't mount emmc to make sure they are there to flash when I format my SDCard...
How do I get my ROM flashed again once I format my SD card?
EDIT:
Doing more research it appears that I should be able to format my SD card w/o losing my ROM as long as I leave my boot and system folders alone.
So, if I format /data, /datadata, and /sdcard I should be able to reboot and see if it worked

I am encountering issues with it being that full. I have like 70 apps with approx 38MB of data taken up... combined with the large amount of 'system data' in the /datadata partition I'm running into the issues when that folder gets to 90% capacity.
It's at the point that I can't install new apps that save any data at all or I will have to constantly shuffle which apps can save their data. Doing research I found that the 172MB cap shouldn't be an issue unless you are hording apps... I have a small number of apps with a small amount of data, so things should be better
Thanks for all the suggestions...
But so far nothing has worked.
I formatted the SD card along with data and datadata and rebooted the phone.
My /datadata folder was still listed at 66% full. So formatting nearly everything still couldn't clear this folder.
I'm still boggled why the other captivate started with 8MB system data and I start with 113MB, both on a clean install...
Perhaps my only hope is to clear stuff out again and flash ICS and hope that something is different enough that this 'problem' goes away...
An additional thought
Would I be able to delete the /datadata folder through Root Explorer, reboot into recovery and reflash the ROM?
I would assume the ROM will repartition the phone correctly. System data can't exist in a folder that doesn't exist - right?
Hey guys,
I recently rooted my s3 mini to JB 4.1.2 by faria and i was wondering why i cant install any more apps as my ram is used up by all my apps. is there a way to clear/wipe all this data and start from scratch installations or any way i can move this huge game files in android/obb to another location in my sdcard to save space for app installations on my phone memory.
also, i have tried directory bind,app2sd, lind2sd and gl to sd(root) none of them seems to be installing or working for me as i still face the prob with installation of the same app.
kindly help.

Had the same error.
Simply wipe dalvik-cache and everything will work fine.
Cheers.
I used titanium backup and wiped dalvik cache. Still no use. Same error. Is there any way I can install busy box in linux.

Remove a LOT of your apps. That should fix the storage problem until you get the script into /data.

try changing default install location. possible with normal device options, dont remember where. or else use app2sd to change it.
although i have the same error, when trying to install anything on extsdcard (with enough room on it), with faria rom v5.1.
with leatherface v2 i didnt have the problem if i remember correct.
update:
i still have the problem too.
wiped dalvik, factory reset multiple times, cleaned odin files, although faria rom is also using odex?
phone works fine, but i only have 4,5gb max internal (fused internal and sdcard).
and i cant install anything to external. i selected the options *install to: autoselect by android, internal, or external.
i tried it with more then one app, like rom toolbox pro.
i also noticed that chaning it it one app, correctly alters it in another.
i asked this in q&a, and i read what i can searching the whole forum. still i wuold really like to know:
-is 4,5 gb max combined/fused is normal for s3 mini +faria rom)?
-is it normal to have .obb partition completely empty, even having installed multipple apps?
its 402mb, totally free.
And i have other partitions also 402 mb, totally free.
-/cache partitions remains at 14mb, whatever happends, even after changing usage of cache heavier and lighter.
-cant install anything on extsdcard.
-/mnt/sdcard shows in that directory, with root explorer, as linked to sdcard0.
same in root:/sdcard (not sdcard0!) linked to -> sdcard0
but it has no apps in it. and only some folders.
?i dont know if i am correct in assuming that "->" symbol in root explorer means: linked to.

thx for yuor reply.
no that is not what i mean exactly.
i do use link2sd now, to use my extsd 2nd partition. but it gives an error: installl_failed_insufficent storage.
even when i put it on auto.
when pressing create link, i get: i/o error.
what do you have selected to auto move to 2nd partition?
my primary question, has to do with the fused internal+sdcard phone memory (so not extsdcard), of faria firmware.
Phone sees the fused internal as,... internal memory.
and the phone sees my extsdcard as external sdcard.
i presumed the reason for this is to be able to install apps on ext sd too, by default. (so without link2sd or others).
because the problem as i see it is:
now i have less phone storage.
i still cannot install to external sd card.
i would really like to know
- what should be the benefits of this fused memory? why did faria do this?
- beacause now i have less or same memory, and no benefits.
-what i have to change in system mount, or fuse, to get back original non-fused.
- And/Or, how i can enable extsdcard to install to it too.
thanks
Have you tried with an ext4 partition on your external sd, for link2sd? I've read somewhere that it worked.
Otherwise Directorybind do work. I've binded the whole Android folder without any problems at all :good:

found a solution (maybe?)
I personally had the same problem right after flashing a new rom on my i9100. I read through the script amd it was quite literally just unmounting and mounting the sd card again. I wasn't sure how it could possibly be a simple matter of mounting the sd card but it worked so I'm okay with that.
If you're on 4.1.2 then you can probably manually unmount and mount the sd card by going into system settings, storage and scroll down to sd card for unmount. It'll take a short while to unmount and another to mount again and check for errors. Not sure if you have to do this will ever boot but it beats not ever installing anything, right?

Hi,
I have 7.2.4.c kabaldan milestone rom.
With sd card with 3 partitions : fat32/ext3 1gb / swap.
Since I can't move my app to the ext with basic app2sd kind of app, I tried S2E.
Well, with the option "intall app to INTERNAL", I guess that s2e were intalled on the ext partition... I hit someting and reboot the phone.
Now, I have lost all my apps, I looks like the stock clean rom AND I can't install any applications, even if I change automatic/internal/external options.
So I don't have access to the ext partition.
Is there a way to get my ext back without a wipe?
(I do have a complete backup, but its a couple of weeks old... my bad )
Thanks
You don't need any additional app to use the ext partition.
All of kabaldan's ROMs automatically detect and use it if it's there.
I don't know how to recover your apps, but I guess any attempt will end up dirty.
Restore your old backup and don't forget to make one everytime you try something fancy

With my phone don't worry, I do backups everytime .
You say that its automatic , but I dont understand why after a while I still have the "no more sapce available ". ext is around 200 mb of 1gb full...
Low space warning usualy means your /data is full, not /sd-ext. Try lib2ext.
btw, I do not know how to recover, I have no clue what s2e did to your data.

The script that moves all user apps to ext partition can be seen here
You can't access them because there is probably some confilct between s2e and the inbuilt 07app2ext script that moves all your apps to sd-ext automatically. That is, it moves the apk part of application, there are some parts, like libraries, databases, etc., that remain in /data/data. And it is stuff in /data/data/ that is filling the space so the OS is complaining. Hence the recomendation to try to utilize lib2ext.
The simplest and probably the safest way to get back to track is to start from scratch. As mentioned, I have no clue what s2e did to your files and where it might have moved it. It might be lost, maybe it is on sd-ext but inaccessible because of messed up permissions, perhaps on sdcard somewhere... IDK.
Point beeing - third party apps and/or scripts are usually incompatible with inbuilt 07app2ext script that provides same/similar functionality.

The apps are installed to ext, but there is more to an app than just the .apk file.
There's dalvik cache, ordinary cache and other additional data
Those usually aren't moved to ext.
If you're running out of space despite having an ext partition enter the following into Terminal Emulator and reboot:
Code:
lib2ext 1

Thanks, I wish I can understand everything on andoird programming... I saw only the basic programing at shcool.
For the past week, I have received an error message at my storage space is running out and some system functions may not work properly. I am also receiving repeated force close error messages, which I assume to be related to the storage space issue. The problem is, I have plenty of internal storage space and external storage space available. Below, I've attached screenshots of my current storage.
The error message first came up while using the AOSP 4.2 ROM compiled by pawitp. Before getting the message, I have been using this rom for a couple months with no problem. I reflashed the ROM several times to remedy the issue , but each time I would end up with force close issues after a day or two. Before flashing, I would perform a full wipe, wife cache/dalvik, and format system. Just to be sure, I have tried flashing 4.2 that was recently released by Collective, and the latest slim4.2. I am having these issues no matter what rom I am on.
Edit: cannot upload images from the xda app. Will upload as son as I'm at the computer.

Unfortunately, I cannot download anything from the play store due to the storage issue...
Would uninstalling some apps allow you to install others. ? You can always reinstall them later.
Alternatively. Go into settings, apps, and start deleting app data. for example, gallery, which can take up much more space than it needs. Leave the app, jus clear the data. Maps, browser, etc.
Chances are that your data data partition is full of junk, near its 422mb limit. If you open terminal emulator, type su, then df, you will see which partition is causing the problem.
+1 for what laughingT said
Taking a look at the partitions is the best way to start on this as it is the most common cause, usually /data (/data/data) or /cache is full.
Due to the way android lumps the different partitions toegether in the system view, it might look like there is enough free space when in reality there are sub partitions that are full.
But:
"The insufficient storage" will also be (missleadingly) displayed if an app can not be installed because it's .odex file already exists (for whatever reason) from a previous install.
Thanks for input, Dark3n.
Correct me if I am wrong, but your SD Maid app can clean up stray odex, yes?
I have used SD Maid Pro to keep my phone 'clean'. I had 400 mb in datadata on cm10.0 at one point, and SD Maid helped me trim that down to 150 mb.

Thank you to everyone for the help so far. I wiped and reflashed the ROM so that I could have enough time to get into Titanium Backup before the launcher FCed on me. I restored SD Maid and see that my datadata partition is full (420 of 422). Can I move the system apps to the SD card with SD Maid? I thought that I had this option at one time, but I do not seem to get an option to move my system apps. I tried to convert them to user apps using link2sd (was able to get this installed from a flashable zip that I created before having this issue), but I am unable to do so.
What is odd is that my data data is basically full with only the standard system apps installed on slim and/or AOCP. I didn't even flash gapps.

Moving apps to SD, especially system apps, probably won't help you. Your data partition isn't full, right?
I'd use the app cleaner tab and system cleaner tabs in SD maid to selectively clear app and system data. Clean browsers, maps, galleries and photo apps, at least. this won't uninstall the apps which is good, but it should clear a lot of garbage out.
If that won't do for you, then go into manage apps under the settings menu and clear at the browser data and cache, the maps data and cache, and the gallery data and cache. I'll take a guess that that alone will free up 150 mb.

Correct me if I am wrong, but your SD Maid app can clean up stray odex, yes?

Not yet, but both on the TODO list in that order. No time for coding SD Maid atm . Soon...

I have used SD Maid Pro to keep my phone 'clean'. I had 400 mb in datadata on cm10.0 at one point, and SD Maid helped me trim that down to 150 mb.

I'm trying everything I can but I can't seem to find out what is taking up all my data data storage space. I've cleaned the cache and data for every app and it is still showing me around 400. Like I said before, I've got nothing installed other than what came on the slim 4.2 ROM (plus es file explorer and SD maid).

okay. try this
start terminal emulator and enter
su
du datadata > sdcard/du.txt
exit
exit
. . .
okay, now go open the text file named du.txt that is in your sdcard.
it should list every file in datadata along with the size of each one.
because the size is at the beginning of each line, you can also sort the info by file size, either on your phone with an app like quickoffice, or on your pc.
there is also a way to do that sorting in the shell in terminal emulator, or with a script, but I'm too rusty on linux commands to give you that long command line.
edit: du is going to show the file space used by each subdirectory. that should point you to the offending files and orphan directories.
Did not find any issues after running the datadata log. I did, however, notice several simlink errors after getting es file explorer installed. Flashed the zip referenced in the following link to see if it would fix my errors (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1541942). So far, so good. No storage notifications, I am able to install from play store, and can restore from T/B. I will report back in a day or two to confirm if this fixed my issue.
I'm not sure that fix script is useful for the jelly bean partition layout, which is different from ics , I think.
They are referencing CM9 and a 170mb datadata partition. As you know, we've got a 422mb datadata partition, and I beleive jb uses a different strategy to make use of the fast flash rom in captivate.
Sorry, wrong link. I meant to link the datafix app from the play store. By the way, still seems to be working well.

Okay, I figured it out. I looked in my cwm log and noticed that I had a TON of bad blocks in my datadata partition. This effectively shrunk my partition down to about 50MB. No wonder I had storage warning issues as soon as I would flash any ROM (and why I needed datafix app to free up some space). Before using the phone as a paperweight, I decided I would reflash to stock kg3 to see if repartitioning and flashing back to cm 10.1 could fix it. After going back to stock and then getting back to 10.1, the bad datadata sectors appear to be fixed. I'll report back in a few days.
Any idea what caused the badblocks?

I'll hazard a guess..
if his card was actually using a vfat or non jounaling fs, like ext2 for datadata, then
nonjournaling file systems on SD cards under linux are known to become corrupted when power is lost or interrupted. killing apps through a task manager or power manager could do the same, if it didn't allow the write buffer to finish. also a weak sd card might misbehave, particularly if bus is overclocked as it can be in semaphore kernel.
if it isn't a journaling fs, then the blocks show up as either bad or used when they are actually empty and good. periodically running fsck might be a good strategy for him.
edit; fsck isn't included in android build or busybox, I guess. Dark3n, could you build the fsck module into your SD maid app?
