Update Sim Contacts - G1 Apps and Games

Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks in advance

Really, someone has to know how to do this. Anyone?

I wouldnt mind knowing either, how do you add or sync your contacts on the sim card. Any good app recommendations? I know it syncs to google, but I still rather sync to sim card.

This is something I've been wondering since I bought this phone. Is there an app that can do this or is there a way to do this since the cupcake update?

I dont think you can.... U can add to phone from Sim, but not from phone to Sim.
I think Google/Tmobile or whoever is behind the development of this phone, that its a MUST to use google sync.
If you still have your older or other phone handy add updated contacts to that phone transfer to Sim, place Sim in G1 add pull contacts from Sim to G1.
Thats what moi did

i do the same

Contacts off an old Sim

Is unlocking my tilt the only way to get my old contacts off my sprint sim card?
Or, is there a device that will actually work and let me simply copy them over?

Google is your friend and being this is your first post here ill be nice .......
http://www.dekart.com/products/hardware/sim_card_reader/
That should get you started. Also, does your old sprint phone have a sync cable or bluetooth? you could transfer the contacts by syncing it to the computer first then back to the Tilt . . . . .
LOL thank you for being nice....... Google IS my friend
Yeah I tried that already but sadly, its a Nextel phone not even a sprint so It uses that crappy IDEN stuff......It created a backup of my contacts as a text document, but I couldn't get Outlook to import the file into the contacts.......correctly. I wanted to possibly, sim unlock, then just put the old sim in, copy the sim contacts to the tilt, then take it out and put my ATT sim back in
When your device isnt unlocked you cant use the other sim card. when its unlocked you can. And this is how you can swap contacts.........Go to programs --> sim manager. I think that will solve your problem.
WIM26
He already knows unlocking will let him use the sim. His question was is there any way OTHER than unlocking to do this. Frrrrrrunkis What format did it export the file as? Am i to understand youre able to read the contacts using the document? You could always make an XML spreadsheet and copy/paste into the appropriate fields ( business , cell , home , Name, ect ) then try to import the contacts int outlook ......
LMAO!! Thank you all for your help. And now for a little shameful self-bashing!!!
Google is my friend!!!! I did a little digging and found a firmware update for my old Motorola I870, hooked it up to the PC Via USB cable and it updated the phone. Once that happened I was able to send my contacts via bluetooth to my new toy, the Tilt. I still want to get it unlocked though and will probably call that number I saw posted on here somewhere.
I assume of course, that the sim unlock is a diffrent one than the CID unlock(if I am reading previous posts correctly)
Yes SIM and CID unlock are two different things.
Just an FYI to anyone who is also looking to do this. Best Buy Mobile offers free phonebook transfers even if you don't buy anything. They have a tool that can read from old phones and/or SIM cards and transfer the contacts to just about anything.
And a second FYI... Sprint and Verizon do not use SIM cards.

Virtual SIM card?

Hi,
So I was thinking, is it possible with some driver may be to make a virtual copy of a physical SIM card, possibly copy 3-4 cards and make the phone work in multi-card mode without the need of SIM cards being physically present?
now that would be nice, a great idea, im pretty sure someone could make something like this since like other phones like sprint dont have a sim card sometimes are programed directly to the phone maybe its the same prosses.
also would make it easier for many like me that have 2 or more sim cards i myself have a T-Mobile (US) and Movistar (Mex.) sim cards and its a bother to have to change them when visiting like right now im in Mexico at the moment.
but it also would bring up another problem to have something like that.
for example someone gets your sim card (if you dont know anything about such program and if made) and someone with mischeif on their minds saves your sim information and uses it as they please. (then again. its just like stealing your phone, you would call your provider and disactivate it so no further charges would apply the second you knew that something was up. its just harder to know since you would have to wait till the bill comes in)
but if at all possible i would use it for good. would be nice

Indeed, i hope it is possible. I dont think theft would be any problem at all, because the gsm network should not accept simultaneous login from the same SIM card. It just makes sense to be this way. I myself have to use up to 5 cards and growing. Ultimately, virtual SIM cards would also enable purchasing cards from the internet and also cheapest route selection, things like this..
point made.
you have a point.
i forgot about the network not allowing you to have two at the same time.
but yeah then again, it shouldn't be much of a problem i think. 5 cards is alot.
but you're right if such a program where made, it would open the market so mucho more and one could actually buy online sim card info. and if this program where made, one could save the info to the phone then back it up to a computer (where it's safe, most of the time atleast) and maybe the same program could write back to a sim card thats not activated (for purposes just as loosing a sim card, but not the info.) now there's an idea for ya.
would be super nice!
too bad i have no clue on how to program such things, but ideas i have
if anyone takes the challenge to create it, if at all possible i would gladly donate since i would use it surely.
Possible, but..
It's possible if you have the Ki and IMSI values from your SIM. The IMSI is easy, but cracking the Ki is only possible in old SIM cards, using COMP128-1 encryption.
All the SIM cloning tools on eBay can clone only these old cards.
A virtual sim card is a really cool idea. No more swapping sim cards between you primairy phone and your backup phone... (I only have only one sim)

Hi
No they give you the IMEI number not the IMSI.
The problem you would have is that sooner or later the networks would block your phone because they will see the fact that your phone is running 4-5 mobile numbers with ONE IMEI no. Ebay is littered with Cheap dual active SIM phones. They only have one IMEI and sooner or later the network(s) will switch off your phone.
The way round this is to have 2 IMEI numbers to run 2 sim cards at the same time...abit like the Samsung D880. This basically means you have 2 phones with 1 screen and 1 keypad...i have one and i know these work great!!.
Regards
Wasim
The will not block you for changin sims, right?
And also GSM won't allow you to register simulteniously two sims, only one at a time...
Cos TD has only ONE GSM inside, not two as Samsung DuoS
What the progress of the topic, people?
I certainly hope this is not possible. I wouldn't want to know anyone can copy and use my simcard. That would be an unacceptable breach of security for any mobile phone user.
This might be a good breach, and it exists, just need a tool to use it with windows mobile! I can even now COPY MY SIM to another sim, yes - it's need a liitle crack with it, but card itself intact, and i can have a copy
So - What are solutions now for windows mobile?
i really like to know if it is possible. but i dont think an emulator is a must because in ppc we can easly turn off the cellular connection and turn it on again. that way (if you've used old 3in1 sim cards, you'd know) you can change the operator. every time you restarted the gsm connection, your operator will change.
and what about connecting to more-than-one operator at the same time?
cheers

I am in Saudi & have 3 sim cards(STC) with the same number. One in my laptop, One in my Samsung, one in my Diamond. All work for internet at the same time to use for phone I activate by *123$ (this is then primary card for incoming & texts). When in Spain I have 2 cards(Movistar) both of these work & ring at the same time, but text messages only goes to one of them.
Virtual Sim Card
hello ladies and gentleman this is a very good idea i was thinking about the same idea today... In the virtual sim card there should be a tracking device installed in the phone so that when it is stolen you can track down the phone or the company can switch of the phone and it will have no use and all your data is safe... I am all the way in africa Botswana and my name is delmar dube i am willing to do more research on this because i want to see it come true
I would be surprised if this was possible... the GSM chipset firmware is pretty much sealed off from a phone's operating system except for the AT command interface. Otherwise people would be able to fiddle with transmit power which would invalidate the phone's FCC/etc certifications.
Any progress??
Heyy like most on this forum thread I just thought of this last night, I have an unlimited plan with Wind Mobile (who's coverage is um.... not great) with Unlimited internet and talking and texting for $29/mo. Unfortunately I spend the majority of my time outside their current coverage area, and would like to get one of Telus' "One Number Unlimited" voice plan ($7/mo) for when I'm outside of Wind's area but still want to call my girlfriend. Virutal Switchable SIM cards would be a great solution since my phone doesn't exactly like to co-operate with me when I try to turn it on after having the battery removed to get access to the SIM slot. Plus I don't want to be carrying around a little tiny piece of plastic that'll give me chaos if I ever lost it.
Anyways I'm running a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4g (4g is the name of the phone, it's just LTE of 3G though), It's running ICS 4.*something.
Oh yeah, sorry for being a grave-digger
I love this idea. I mean apple now has patents for virtual simcards, I really hope the android market follows suit. I have 6 sim cards and counting (Afghanistan, Switzerland, United States, Korea, Philippines, and UAE), and would love to be able to purchase and activate my "virtual sim card" off of say the Google Play Store, prior to flying into a country.
I wouldn't mind some kind of DRM or whatnot, just being able to buy service before I go into country, and then have calling and data capabilities as soon as I walk off the plane would be worth it.
I have a korean Galaxy S2, which has the sim tray damaged, being impossible to connect any SIM card.
If I could use virtually my SIM card, I coud use this phone.
Is this possible??
I just wanted to use one SIM card just for phone calls, dont even need services like internet...

About Unlock G1 Phone

Hello, i got a G1 from my cousin, so i cant use it yet but im the 1st day,
i can still use the "camera, calculator and some of the apps, it happens that i wipe-out the datas. but now i discover to make an update that some1 instructed me to do this.
1. Go here: http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/list
2. Download this: signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip [8th in the list]
3. Rename it: update.zip
4. Place it on your SD card
5. Put SD card in phone. Reboot holding the Power and home buttons.
6 Apply the update...
7. Done.
but then i cant even still see those apps like camera's bar code reader,
calculator etc.. is there a way to see those? or i now need to get an unlock
pin to activate the phone and see those apps?
my phone is 2weeks nothing to do ><
all i can see is the emergency calls xD
Is it asking you to sign in to google?
I'm not really of your scenario, you're using a t-mobile SIM, right? When I got my G1 I didn't have a t-mobile SIM, so all I could do is use emergency call until I unlocked it. Thing is, when you factory reset your SIM unlock is still retained, so I don't really see how this is possible...
So we can understand what happened.
-The phone worked fine
-you factory reset
-Applied that update
-it's asking for a code
Is it an unlock code (for the SIM) or a gogle sign-in?

First of all thanks for replying bro, its really appreciated
i got my G1 without a T-mobile sim card. so if i put a sim from here
it ask for a pin and also requires me to sign in tio google.
how to fix? or the only way is to get it unlocked?
coz samehere i only can use emergency call xD
so you have an rooted locked g1 and you what? Hard to follow the conversation
If you're not on tmobile you need to purchase an unlock code, you can buy them on ebay for about $15/£10. They will ask for your IMEI. Never publicly post your IMEI. If you see one really really cheap, make sure they are going to give you the code, rather than tell you how to unlock.
After thatyou need apn settings for your carrier, press menu, enter those and sign in.

did your cousin originally have tmobile? what he can do is call tmobile and say that he sent his g1 overseas to his cousin as a present... jus tmake sure you tell him the IMEI number found on the back of the phone when u take out the battery first before he calls tmobile..
tmobile will give him the unlock code thru email within 24hours.
if he didnt have tmobile then the only thing u can do is buy the unlock code.preferably ebay.
a lot of apps use data. so apps that use internet and such will not work since there is no SIM in it. u need a sim with a data plan. but u can use the phone over wifi. no calls but download from market and browse the web.
PM me so i can walk u thru. more things.

[Q] URGENT! d3 unlock question

if i get my droid 3 unlocked, can i migrate my contacts from my at&t gsm sim card onto the d3? my previous phone doesn't have an sd slot, normal usb hookup, or any other option, and my carrier wants to charge me $50 to have my contacts migrated from the sim card to an sd (which i already own) to insert into my d3.
no fluff, please. don't answer unless you know, and i really only need a "yes" or "no." i need as fast an answer as possible!!
Get another phone
Transfer the SIM card to the other phone
Copy your contacts there
Get your D3
Get your new SIM card and put it in the other phone
Copy your contacts back to your SIM card
Put it back inside your D3
You're done
Aren't you going to keep the old SIM card?

[Q] SIM card error

updated my vivid to ics today, everything was fine untill i tried adding a new phone number to my sim card.
After hitting save i get "unable to save contact. sim card error"
i still had access to my other phone numbers and calls/internet
i figured maybe the card wasnt sitting right in its socket, took it out put it back, and then i get "No SIM card"
Took it out a couple more times and it still said "no sim card"
put it back a final time everything was back to normal until i tried adding a new phone number
"unable to save contact. sim card error" again.
Not sure if this is a ICS problem or a hardware problem, but any help would be appreciated
its neither saving contacts to sim cards is no longer supported feature
seriously? where did you find that out from...
also, not sure if this matters but the last two phone numbers i added before ics were erased as well, all other contacts are fine
Hasnt been supported in awhile...contacts sync to google, obsolete function
ive been using the sim card for ALL my contacts since i got this phone 4-6 months ago, never had a problem.
like i said before unless ICS changed something then i should still be able to use the sim for contacts
and if sim cards are obsolete like you say they are then why are service providers still using them.
its hard to believe that they would just discontinue the use of sim cards for contacts for no apparent reason
Can use them sure, itll read them...adding contacts is another story, the added contacts on 3.0 were not saved to sim ill bet they were saved to phone and seen in your contacts for sure...it is not a supported [email protected] to sim any longer...no sense arguing or debating about it....on 3.0,3.5 and now 3.6 that feature has never [email protected] to sim...you can save to csv, back up from sdcard sync with google...thats about it....sony software allows this but not htc's..and to address why they would not allow it...well you can only store up to 250 contacts on a sim....google is unliminted...sim cards are used for more than backing up contacts too...lol...thats how your able to get service

im telling you that i was able to save contacts to the sim, how else would they be on there in the first place. and there is a point in arguing about it because your saying that sense 3.0 is unable to save to sim, and i know for a fact that it can
ok you know better than me....ask away then...enjoy your night boss ...)
and if there is no such function anymore why is it that when i add a contact, under contact type there is SIM, phone, and google. if like you said the function is no longer in use why would they even put it in the drop down menu
and you said the contacts saved on 3.0 were saved on the phone, then why is it that when i change phones MY NUMBERS ARE ON THE NEW PHONE.
i never said i knew better than you, i was asking for help and you came on your high horse and said a bunch of stuff that makes absolutely no sense.
Not on a high horse....lol...just have asked att about it have tested myself since getting the device....doesnt work...if your contacts were there then they transferred them at the [email protected] also they sync with google automatically as soon as you set up [email protected] being there. If you think im on a high horse and took the statements in that manner then thats on you....my apologies....spoke from what research and dev i have done and do with this and other devices....
all im saying is i dont use google sync, i dont sync anything with my phone. and ive added contacts to my sim before and i know theyre on the sim. i can edit delete old contacts but not save them i find it strange that they would just discontinue the use of sim cards
Xda is seriously going down the crapper when people argue with a master dev and accuse him of being on a high horse ... Knowing that the dev is saving the vivid from obscurity
I haven't..and am still not able..to save contacts to sim since my inspire with 3.0

Ok well when your up at three in the morning with a new Rom release, or up all night answering questions about how to flash said Rom, or answering the same questions over and over again, or dealing with people whom Apparently have never even seen a high horse , then you will have room to criticize...
Come on now. Mine don't save to sim either. I really don't care as long as they show up every time I turn on the phone.
WC has ripped the software apart numerous times plus re-built them over and over again. Authority has nothing to do with it, understanding the inner workings through life experiences does.
