In R2AA i've get used to the optical joystick (d-pad) to slide really smooth through internet pages in the Opera Browser. A few days ago I've upgraded to R3AA and suddenly the smooth scrolling is gone. Sliding with the optical joystick will let the page jumps (in pretty big steps) instead of smooth kinetic scrolling. So scrolling with the optical joystick isn't that effective and precise anymore...
I've done a lot of settings by enter opera:config into the address bar, but that didn't do the trick. I've also used the "solution" in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444694 but they had a different problem (the optical joystick just moves a highlight between the links on the page), so that didn't work for me.
Does someone knows a solution? Maybe by posting the input.ini or opera.ini file from a Generic R2AA phone will help.
I am also having this same issue.
Opera flips through pages rather than scroll smoothly.
And "smooth scrolling" in opera config is enabled btw.
A friend of mine has the same issue. It was fine after he installed R3A, but after a couple of days he noticed the "jumping". I guess some fo the programs that you have installed messed Opera up?
I thought, just bring the thread back to the front
I don't think it has to do with any other program I've installed. I installed exactly the same programs after I've upgraded from R2A to R3A... But on the other hand, if it worked smoothly for a couple of days after upgraded to R3A (as you mentioned orelsi), and than suddenly the smooth scrolling in Opera was gone.... hhmmm that's a different story.
All I want is my smooth scrolling back, but I don't wanna hard reset my device to test it... it's a hell of a job with all the installations and settings and stuff.
I still believe by posting the input.ini or opera.ini file from a Generic R2AA phone (maybe) will help. Or if someone else have an other suggestion?

Sigh...facepalm... Just like he said it is software incompatibility. How could you not understand that the programs cause it? Obviously you installed the same programs and obviously the programs conflict in the new firmware. And once again, obviously the programs conflicted in R3A but not R2A. Sigh... think people...think!
Has nothing to do with software incompatibility. Fresh install of UK generic ROM R3A. And the same thing is occurs with opera's scrolling. Its not smooth as it used to with the previews ROMs.

Ok, to be honest, I'm not sure what's the cause and I'm not sure if it's a program conflict in R3A, but I don't like the way you use the word "obviously". Obviously with a fresh R3A ROM installation the same thing occurs...
I've also installed Opera 9.7 beta, but first I don't like the version right now (text is pretty blurry) and second, scrolling with the optical joystick jumps between links instead of free scrolling.
I have just updated mine to the new rom and opera is also jumping about in big blocks now instead of smooth scrolling like it used to.
Has anybody found a fix for this yet?
You can still have smooth scrolling by using your finger to scroll the screen

I just installed the new HTC Rom on my TyTN II. At first, it seemed snappy. Once I installed some Today plugins, switching from landscape to portrait and back still took about 2 seconds, but it didn't redraw the screen as in the past, the new layout (after 2 seconds) just appeard all intact. Seems they are building the screen in memory before displaying double buffering) it. This made it appear "snappier".
I installed PocketCM v1.5, which was always very fast for me. With the updated ROM the contact list still scrolled vertically just fine, but the side to side transitions tear and stutter.
Is anyone else noticing this behavior?
lol thats why I have stayed away from official releases untill I hear a forum full of happy XDA-ers
Well, some of us have to be the first to try these things out for the rest of you.
hahaha i used to be like that. I remember the flash happu days lol, but recently ive seen nothing but problems with official releases so have given up FTM
I currently use Duttys WM 6.1 WWe dated 04/16/08 and its the fastest release ive used so far
Hi,
try to change registry value on in touch flow settings - to value more then 200.
I am using value 900 - and machine is pretty quick even in the newest WM6.1
I also think this is a lot slower. Especially when opening programs and such wish I'd stayed with custom rom from sleuth. In fact might flash back.

It's already set to 400. The horizontal transitions in PocketCM are not based on a finger swipe, but by tapping an icon...so the Touchflo settings for that aren't the issue. The transitions stutter and tear without touchflo.

I have tried this version, I am not so happy with it. I find it rather slow and the zooming in zooming out feels tedious. I may be spoiled because I am also using an iPod Touch with the Safari Mobile browser but are there any previous builds of the Opera Mobile 9.5 browser that have faster performance than this?
I am working on a Samsung i780 so I have a lot of power behind the phone, I just don't find this version jaw-dropping.
Okay this looks great. Just tested it on the Diamond and it's fast, seems stable and fixes the "black whole problem" at least on the sites I had problems with.
One drawback: it doesn't seem to support the g-sensor out of the box. however we might be able to work around that with gsen... didn't try that though.
I guess this is a real candidate for some cooked ROMs...
Edit: This thing is REALLY fast. We might probably want to work on how to replace the original opera on a diamond with this version?
Cheers,
Alex
Will installing this overwrite the default Opera diamond browser?
You can install it on the internal storage - so your pre-installed opera should be left untouched. As for the default browser setting - I didn't check that. But you should be able to switch back if desired as well.
Okay from some testing I can report the following issues:
Does not use old Opera's bookmarks, so when overwriting old opera there's no way to sync bookmarks with Manila (some tiny application might be written to do the job however I guess)
Occasionly prevents device standby (even when manually pressing the standby button) - getting out of opera helps
At least in my setup it keeps starting itself when exited - that might however be a result of me playing around to replace original opera with new one
The most noticable bug from opera's official known-issues list is the non-working re-flow of text paragraphs. instead the paragraphs are _always_ sized to fit the zoomed-in screen
Auto-rotation is not implemented out of the box - I didn't test, yet if GSen would do the trick (for some of us disabled auto-rotation might actually be a plus ;-)
Some of these issues obviously have to be fixed for a final - but I assume they will do so until the final release.
On the bright side we have:
Definitely faster
Looks like it has lower memory consumption (not measured though) - this actually makes the auto-restart thing I experience acceptable for me - I simply keep it running in the background at the moment
The black-hole problem seems to be fixed
Once the issues have been worked out this will be a huge step forward in mobile browsing on the diamond - even compared to the current version of opera mobile!
If anyone else is testing this software I'd be happy to hear some feedback and maybe solutions found to the issues I mentioned.
Cheers,
Alex
Does it also support Flash based websites? (containing flash video's?)
i also tried to install it both on the device & internal storage, but it just won't start the new version... even when i start the program from the program list it will start the old version...
i guess the beta version wanted to prevent the resizing of the paragraph while zooming in some text pages, but i do like it coz the zooming in & out is now more precise...
anyone have any idea how to replace the old opera with this new beta...
also another problem encountered is the pop up of the input keyboard... it will automatically switch to the default windows style even if i set it to full qwerty keyboard...
i hope htc will implement it soon or opera could release the final version soon, this browser is the best so far~
Here is the Thread containing the latest Opera build, was released yesterday I think. Anyway, its miles better than this beta, go check it out!

not impressed, seems much slower than what im currently using
find it in the file manager to launch it.
I find it has a keyboard issue... it keeps reverting back to small qwerty.
I uninstalled it and now my original opera takes longer to load up. (now those progress blocks have appeared?)

Have to agree, build 1938 is *way* better than this one, it's a lot faster and far more stable. At least on a Samsung i780 which is what I used to test it.
I also tried it on an iMate Jasjar but the build had problems working with the qwerty keyboard -- when you try to type it will take in one character then close the SIP, so you can no longer enter any letters. Horrible bug, did not have this problem with any other build I tried so far. But it works fine, only problem is I have to use the SIP, and the point of getting a Universal is to have the QWERTY!
Hi,
I've tried a couple of the Opera cabs available on d0ugie's BlownFuze site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446306
and I've found that they work fine the first time they are launched, but once they've been closed (I used the GScroll function mapped to a double tap to close the app), I couldn't re-open it.
I don't know whether it's specifically down to the way I'm closing it - I've restored my Touch Pro now, so can't re-test easily, but the stock version (v9.5 build 1522) supplied with my v1.90.00.00 HTC ROM has no such problem.
Anybody else seen this behaviour, and have any suggestions?
Cheers,
Steve.
I think I had such an issue. This was basically that Opera didn't close. If you have a good Task Manager you'll notice that one of the processes related to Opera still hangs around. If you kill it you'll be able to open new Opera explorer.
I had such issues with custom roms and new Opera builds. I now have a factory rom and it seems to be working fine.
ok - thanks.
It was probably how I was closing it, using GScroll that was the issue. If I venture down that path again, and the problem still exists, I'll probably write a program to shut Opera down completely.
Cheers,
Steve.
There are so many Opera versions out there...
The one I have been using 15316. Before that I was using some other version, I can't remember which.
Anyway, I am tired of this flipping the screen upside down everytime I exit it (in landscape).
Which is the best version to use on a Tilt?

I was using Opera 9.5 beta 2, and hated the whole widget mess that they created, so I rolled back to beta 1. So far no complaints.

Where can I get it? What is the build number?
Just a tip, build 15233 ripped from the Omnia worked very well in the short time I used it. There was no screen flipping problem, and it was very stable. It also supported zooming by sliding your finger on the side of the screen. I think the real reason I stopped using it was there was some kind of text reflow issue when you zoomed it though. It has no widgets, although it installs a shortcut to the non-existent widgets, so you need to delete it.
However, I currently use NFSFan's build 15316, which I like due to its 10 tab support and speed. However, as a trade off, it suffers from the screen flipping problem if you minimize it or touch the taskbar while using it. And I definitely agree with TelloMan about the widgets, they just waste space and annoy me. Try to keep looking around XDA, especially in Development and Hacking (where I found many opera builds).
Dave
Yeah, NSFan's 15316 is the one I'm using now. The screen flipping is driving me crazy.
It's hard to believe there isn't one decent browser for Windows Mobile. Anyone know what's going on with that Firefox Mobile?
you're referring to "Minimo" by Mozilla. I haven't seen or heard much lately from them. There's some opera builds are fairly close to perfection depending on what irritates you the least amount. Too bad none of them has flash working perfectly yet. If I had to choose 2 browsers for WM, it would be netfront and opera mobile
well... call me heretic, but imho for casual browsing and forums the best one is opera mini and if I need to use my bank's web page or anything more complicated iexplorer is reliable enough. additionally, I have skyfire installed on my memcard just to make sure that I can browse whatever I want.
the answer? opera mini and skyfire in my opinion. I am tired of o.mobile bugs and new builds every few days/weeks.
Actually, I think he is referring to Fennec, not minimo. Minimo was horrible and requires very high specs, while Fennec, which is still in alpha/early beta, is very unstable yet very promising. It will be quite a while before it will be really usable. I would just stick to opera mobile for now. Skyfire works well, but isn't 100% stable. Opera mini is fast, but not full featured.
As I said, Fennec is very promising, but it is extremely unstable and VGA only for now.

I agree about Mini i use it for pretty much everything then for sensitive info use Mobile.
"I like fast pages and come from SP stock so used to the Mini approach"
I used to get annoyed by the text flipping, but Manila2D always corrects the screen back to portrait when you hit the homescreen. I've been using that as my bandaid.

Like Dave was, I just got build 15233 running per the instructions at
http://www.smartphonemag.com/cms/blog/9/tutorial-everything-you-need-know-about-flash-lite-3-and-playing-back-flash-web-videos
and it is by far the best browser experience I've had on my Tilt yet. Flash even worked on http://www.spezzo.com.
It isn't very fast, but compared to IE and the first Minimo, this actually WORKS. I can switch from mobile versions to desktop versions, zoom and scroll, and it uses my IE favorites.

Thanks XDA good guys!
Hi everybody, I recently got a Diamond2 and found that the enormous amount of expertise and help available at xda-developers have really helped me enjoy this phone. The phone is not locally supported by any carriers or retailers in Canada so the availability of these forums have been a real help. I've run through most of the issues I've had with the phone (really like the Pro2 Interface better but was way to bulky) but have a few remaining that I haven't been able to find satisfactory answers for, hope you guys will be able to help.
I've downloaded and played around with what seem to be most of the prerequisite softwares: Advanced Config Tool, Klaxon, Changescreen etc. and have also made a couple of registry modifications to enable TF3D rotation and things like that. Here is where I'm getting into a bit of trouble. Although changescreen is a great app I just don't like to install a lot of things on my device and decided to try the regedit. After a soft reset it seemed to work great but was quite slow in switching over to landscape and back. At first I though this was a problem with the g-sensor so I opened up Opera to try it out and found that it was much faster. Obviously it's a lot less graphically intense but I was playing around with a Touch Pro2 before I bought the Diamond2 and it is also significantly faster, with the same processor and everything. I've tried to reduce the sampling time for the g-sensor down from 200ms to 100ms in ACT but that didn't really seem to help. Also I get some really weird lines across the tops of TF3D pages in landscape; in the All Contacts page for example the bar that contains "Search Contacts" will have at least three sets of distorted lines across it at regular intervals across the page. The wallpaper also seems to malfunction as instead of staying as it was, it will stretch across the width of the screen and as a result become extremely distorted. The dialer doesn't go into landscape but that seems to be a common issue. I've downloaded the Rhodium Phone Dialer although I haven't had a chance to install it yet, maybe that will fix the dialer issue.
I do have some app installed that changes the background of all tabs to be the same and this seems to have messed with the transparency of the tab bar and, occasionally the phone will fail to respond to screen swipes that would usually cycle through the tabs without using the tab bar. Maybe this app is also causing the other problems.
The help on these forums has already been a great asset and I was just hoping that I would be able to get some simple fixes for the issues with the landscape thing without having to install more software. Thanks in advance for any help, its all appreciated. Cheers.
PS, rom is 1.39.421.0 (47382) WWE
what you can do to improve things:
1. ditch stock rom and use tess rom
2. install flipit for rotation software - its better than the rest IMO
Thanks for the quick reply
Thanks for the quick reply, sorry I wasn't able to reply right away, got a bit busy at uni.
I was a bit apprehensive about installing a new rom but the one you recommended is amazing. The speed increase alone is unbelievable, doesn't even feel like the same device.
Everything is working great and the rotation is really fast now on everything except TF3D. It almost looks like it attempts to rotate and then fails. The title bars rotate around and then rotate back. I've added the regedit, manually removed and added it back into flip_it, but nothing seems to be working. Aside from that everything else seems perfect. Hope you'll be able to help, and once again, thanks.
oh yeah.. forgot to mention about manila in landscape
go to search and look for At0mAng & Danny_and_2 TF3D2 Tweak cab for topaz
install, and in the list of programs, there is option called Manila Rotate ON.
and thats it, you are all set...
hope this helps

Can I ask where to read and get this rom?
I am also new to Topaz.
Running on stock ROM
been reading around. reading on the various rom threads to decide which to use.
I am looking for something stable, fast (aren't we all?) and 6.1. Still got Manila and hopefully with Titanium built in. Also if possible with ringtones removed.
What would you recommend?
Thanks

Almost there
Thanks for the tip about the tweak program, installed it and followed your directions, manila is now rotating. However, its still incredibly slow; in the range of 3-5 seconds for transition to landscape and then around 1-2 seconds back to portrait. Also, those distortive lines I described earlier are back.
I was hoping for the kind of speed seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPVgN5QuzO4 but I do realize that its a different rom. I've disabled and enabled TF3D and also done a soft reset, but no speed increase. I was thinking it may be a hardware issue but everything else works fine. One thing I have noticed though is that since installing this rom some programs get stuck half rotated and the other half of the screen will display the TF3D home page. Once again, thanks for all the help so far.
P.S. If I disable TF3D the blank today screen will rotate at the same speed as in that video if not faster. Also before when the menus rotated but not TF3D they were rotating at the same fast speed.
yes, I know what you mean.. at this stage, manila rotates pretty slow for me too...
I guess at the moment, we have to live with it... the slow rotation only happens on tf3d2 rite? the rest is ok...
as with hardware issue, I am sure it is not, cause topaz is still relatively new...
btw, Manila 2.1 is around, and manila 2.5 is coming too... so, maybe they would give better performance .
btw, the youtube link is a rom made by Tom Condon, and as you probably know, he is very active in building rom for topaz too... why dont you give him a message, or try his rom...
Tha
sorry double post again..
Sounds good
Glad to know that it wasn't just a one off issue. I'll give his rom a shot, was kind of wary b/c of the comments that said WM 6.5 was slow. Would you be able to direct me to somewhere that I'd be able to download TF3D 2.1 alone without a rom upgrade or anything or maybe even cooked into the TESS rom. Thanks for the incredible quick reply and for all the help so far.
