I'm surprised that I'm the only one taking a stand on this issue:
Hasn't anyone noticed that when receiving MMS pictures with the new crossbow roms they are downscaled dramatically? No longer are we able to receive the full file size of the picture message sent. For example, if a friend were to send you a 91kb picture message, your HTC device would download the file and downscale it to 160x120 with size 5-15kb. At first i thought this was a network issue, but when i tried the standard T-mobile rom and the Custom WM5 rom 2.26 by Xelecin, i was able to receive the picture messages in actual size.
Is everone content receiving microscropic choppy picture messages? Is there some type of registry fix for this?
I just took a 640x480 pic on my phone. File size is 63K. I then used my phone to send the pic to myself. The incomming MMS had a 63K, 640x480 pic attached. I'm running the new Faria WM6 ROM.
I'm pretty sure when I sent a pic with WM6 MBE to my wife, she got a full sized pic also (but I really didn't check it).
PM me and I can MMS you a pic, and you can send on to me so we can compare results if you want.
BTW:Have you verified in your MMS settings that "Photo Resolution" is set to Original? QQVGA (160x120) is one of the options here, which seems to be what you are seeing happen. Go to MMS, then click Menu > Tools > Options..., Click on MMS, and under Preferences tab scroll to the bottom for Photo Resolution.
How do you send images you've taken in normal setting not MMS type?
My images are over 300kb and are too large to osend via MMS.
My operator only allows up to 99KB per mms.
So if I want to send someone an mms, I have to open a new mms, then select take picture (from within the new mms) and then take the picture.
How to resize it to friendly sizes?
Ive tried the "Resize" but that doesnt really resize it much or enough.
Thanks
Have you tried sending it as an email attachement?
I dont want to email it.
I want the receiver to see it on thier mobile (hence MMS).
No, I mean send it as an email attachment from your phone to theirs, or do they not have the ability to read attachments?
hi,
You can choose the picture format in MMS account configuration. Pictures too large are resized
On my stock TYTN II, it asks if I want to resize the large image when I try to attach it in an mms. Problem is that it always put in the original image un-resized no matter what you try to resize it to.
try emailing it to their phones email addy. I know mine is something like
[email protected]

I thought an MMS would go to:
[email protected]
And a SMS would go to:
[email protected]
Could be, I wasn't stating the address as fact but giving him an idea of what it would be like.

Have you tried to tweak the mms sending and receiving size, to enable you to send/receive pics up to 1mb?
It requires you to do a reg edit.
HKLM/Software/Arcsoft/Arcsoft MMS/Config/UI/SizeLimit
just change all 3 Recvlimit's and all 3 Sendlimit's to either
614400 (which is 600k). or you can do what I did, and put 1024000 (which is 1mb). Or .. you can put 1536000 (which is 1.5mb).
Exit and then soft reset device so the settings will keep. Once rebooted, go your mms configuration settings in your messaging options menu, and be sure to select whatever you've indicated in your reg settings, (600k, 1mb, or 1.5 mb).
Press ok, ok, and youre done. Now you should be able to send a mms message that more than 300k now. Hope this helps.
If you're limited to 99kb per MMS, then I would suggest lowering the resolution of your camera before taking the picture. While its not an ideal solution, it should work...
NotATreoFan -Ya I know I can reduce the size but I also want max quality pictures for PC show.
robosiris- I thought the limit was strictly administered by my service provider. Ill try it and see!
Thanks

I thought so too. But with this tweak, I can now send and recieve up to 1mg. You can set it higher but 1mg is good for me.
Also, If you're looking to send/receive pics over 1mb and alittle under 1.5mg, you can try setting it to 1228800 which gives me an option for 1200K, (1.2mb). With these tweaks, you won't (or very rarely) have to worry about changing images sizes.
Hope this helps
Hi I have just got a diamond and when I receive an MMS message the picture is saved on the phone as a very small thumbnail and not as the original picture that was sent. HTC helpline tell me this is how the phone is supposed to work and cannot be changed - does anyone know of a work around to stop the picture being reduced as this seems pretty stupid?
I call total bollocks on whoever told you that!
It's O2 that crop the pictures, and not the phone.
Just tried it on my t-mobile sim and happily sending 1280x960 photo's without any cropping.
Seems O2 still limit the size of the MMS messages, which is one of the reasons i left them years ago, along with their ludicrously high data charges and **** customer service.
Thanks for the response - I have just changed from an XDA Orbit which was also on O2 without this issue - do you know if O2 have more than 1 set of settings for MMS?
I will be changing from O2 at the earliest their data tariffs are absurd in this day and age - for both web and email 4MB caost £5 - just web browsing and they will give you 200MB for 7.50.
Actually its not the sending of the MMS that's the issue it's the receiving. When I send them the other person receives without any issues when someone sends to me they are cropped
When you say cropped - can you post an example? Not calling you stupid or anything but are you seeing the tiny little picture in the thread and doing what I stupidly did and assumed that was it but for some odd reason you have to fiddle and click on the tiny picture to get the big one?
Or have you turned threading off and not seeing this?
Yep it's the picture that appears in the thread of the conversation view you get for MMS and SMS. when you click on the picture icon it opens a full page with the tiny picture in the middle - if you try and save that picture it is only about 4K. I've clicked on properties from the message and it just gives the details of the file and says its 4K. The picture that was sent was much larger
how do I turn the threading off?
Solution
Unzip attached and import in ur Diamond using Resco Explorer then Restart. It fixed the problem 4 me.
Thanks for the MMS fix - that has made a huge improvement. The pictures are still being compressed but they are large enough to view on the screen now.
how exactly are you suppose to import this fix using resco explorer??? i am having the same problem as you guys and would like to fix this problem too, thanks for your help
download the file and copy it to the device.
install resco and then use the registry component to import the file into the registry.- once you have installed resco it will be self explanatory.
resco can be found as a trial at handango.com
cab file
Here is the cab file to fix this problem >> it works fine with my diamond
Thanks for Alhariqi for this cab file

I did a quick search on this but couldn't find it. Anyway is it possible to add mms to your phone? I currently have to goto the providers website and view to photos and most time that site doesn't work. So i was just wondering if there is a way of adding this. I don't know much about this stuff so no need to point and laugh if it isn't possible.
well, yes. depends on your carrier.
it is telus
I realy don't understand your question.
The diamond has MMS support.
Are you asking for the settings for your provider?
TDO
ok so then whenever someone sends me a text with a picture or a video i have to log onto the website to view those pictures or videos. My question is just like most flip phones that get them sent directly to their phone is it possible to do that aswell with a smart phone. I only had this phone and a blackberry and they are both the same in that i have to log into the telus website to view any texts sent to me with media attached to them. also i have to email people my photos instead of just texting them which i also hate.
it will get directly to your phone if the mms settings are correct setup with the
settings from your provider
I had the same problem (using T-Mobile UK), all I got was a text message with a URL to T-Mobile's site.
To fix it, just send an MMS to yourself! For some reason, you need to send an MMS before you can receive one (at least that was the case with T-Mobile).
Try it and see if this fixes your problem.
yea for me it was the same,
i called tmobile why its so scarry, they told me that they need to know if your device supports MMS and the best way is to see an mms coming from your device so they can be sure that u are working on an mms enabled device.
greets
anyone having problems sending MMS to anyone with an iphone? i was able to send MMS to my friend who has an iphone with evil NXsense ROM but having no avail with cm6.1. my friend is getting an error saying that the message is too large.
i did a clean wipe and install
i can send MMS to my other friends, but just not those with iphones.
any solutions?
thanks in advance
lol I could start by saying IPHONE SUCKS! but i won't be mean
Anyways, did you check to see if the your phone is converting the files to the right format/size? Check on your friends' phone to see how big the file is and which format...then try to send the same file to the iphone again...make sure that iphone is actually able to receive MMS from other people!
i knew that was coming xD
how do i check if its converting the files to the right format/size?
he is not getting anything. just an error saying:
"one or more of the message components have been deleted by MMS Adapatation. Either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your terminal"
hes able to send and receive MMS fine. but the weird thing is, i was able to send him MMS when i was on the evil NXsense rom. since moving to cm6.1, no more goes D:
thanks in advance
CM6 doesn't limit MMS, if I recall correctly, like NXSense does. And iPhone can't receive messages larger than 600kB (Android can send/receive up to 5MB or so). Cut the files you're trying to send in size.

agreed, but doesn't the carrier limit file size? mine limits it to 600kb and it shouldn't even send if it goes higher than that...
As for how to looks at the size, just send the mms to some other phone that works and on that phone check the properties of the file....if the size is <= 600kb then try sending it to the iphone dude
Also, I've had a few problems with files not converting and I found out that when sending an MMS, if I attach a file and click on "Capture Picture" and take a picture instead of selecting a file in the gallery, it seems to convert them....try that!
alright it sending 5mb files. how does one go and cut the size?
Stupid question.. But is the iPhone a First generation iPhone 2G? If it is, and that model is on AT&T it does not support MMS at all. They even go so far as to block the IMEI on that phone so even third party apps won't send or receive MMS messages properly. What version of the iPhone is it?
sorry, i should have included that in my original post. its the 4g

Either using any picture editor / resizer, or trying to add picture to MMS in a different way, which will auto-resize it (from MMS menu, maybe).
Check the size of the MMS by sending it to someone else, as suggested above.
Its something with att because my girlhad an iPhone and now has a captivate. Neither received my mms

Read my second post again...the last paragraph I tell you how to do it so it automatically adjusts the size...try it and give us feedback!
nope doesnt work for me. thats how ive been sending them by going to text msg > attach file > capture picture > *takes picture* > says converting to MMS
im starting to think its the ROM instead of the phone D:

Yeah, that's kinda odd.
I can't talk about personal experience since I just switched to Cyanogen and haven't sent an MMS yet (I really never do anyways )
You should try and report it to Cyanogen, maybe they'll get it fixed
