I have no idea what I'm doing this is the first time I have ever been on a forum so please be gentle. I am having a Blonde moment my iphone has gone loopy and I have no idea what to do as it is unlocked and I am scared to do anything with it so I've had to dust the cobwebs from my unlocked XDA II. I was wondering if I could upgrade the Rom on my XDA II and also will it uprade to WM2005 and if so how the hell do you do this as I cant even remember how to use this phone it's been so long. Or is there anybody who knows about Iphones I can't open my sms messages it just closes. I would really appreciate some help PLEASE
You can upgrade rom
If your device is XDA II (himalaya) then you can upgrade the rom, but it's not in this section. This section is for XDA IIi (Alpine). Search on the himalaya section miss.

Sorry it won't help but I made the same mistake, I DL a XDAII rom thinking it was a IIs in order to change the language rom of my Q9090, and now it is dead, I presume that you got serial written on the screen no?
If so it is not too bad, the only thing is that you NEED to find a ROM for your XDA IIs, if you are lucky enough and that your XDAIIs is in language where you can find ROM PACK update on the net, well just dl it and install the ROM update, but you may have the operator PB, for that just have a look to the thread in this section who talk about how to change your XDA language... it may help
But if you are French, like I am, living in a Country where the prehistoric GSM network doesn't work like JAPAN, you got only one chance is to send a SD to a friend, where he will dump its rom, and send it back to you...
Wooo...
I living in Uk and currently using o2 services. My dead XDA IIs now display.. something like "Serial v 2.06".. So, was that possible to carry my XDA IIs to their retail shop and ask them to dump a new ROM? Or was it any link and procedure to be followed to get myx XDAIIs kicking live again..
Cheers

Where did you get your xdaIIs?
Uplands ..
I got it from UPLANDS shop online. So..huws? Was there any ROM spared online for XDA IIs available at the moment
if you have "serial" screen, it is not that bad...
just download correct ROM upgrade for your device, cradle it and run the upgrade .
...search this forums how to do it. there are tens of these how to posts...
buzz
Could you give me a good link..Which one suit the XDA IIs
Thanks dude anyway, It's my first time have a hand on this PDA stuffs.. and I really dunno those stuff with relate on how to upgrade, playing with ROm and so on... Hopefully, you will be kind to teach me since you use the same device XDA IIs.. and if not just give me a shot of the best link out there...
Kind Regards
Im wondering why you even upgraded in the first place? My XDAIIs shipped with the latest ROM, and has no apparent bugs. Yet you have yours for 48 hours, have no knowledge of firmware/flashing etc, and you jump onto an immediate firmware upgrade (wrongly, of course)?
What bugs were you seeing?
has anyone a xda11s rom image I too applied the xda11 update
I am looking at the usb v2.06 screen with the unit in the cradle. has anyone an image they can forward me so i can flash it back rather than send it back to O2

I understand it seems n00bish, but..
I found no reference on the forum about upgrade of any Alpine device from 2003SE to 2005. Does it realy matter there is no hope with trying find such an upgrage? I have an Qtek 2020i (model PH10C, 2003SE, ROM 1.11.00WWE). Can I find a WM2005 ROM existing, which is situable for my device?
Thanx
There's no exsisting WM5 for the HTC Alpine like the XDA 2i or the Qtek 2020i and there's nobody who can AND want to port a WM5 for our little machines!
Oh, by the wy: WM6 is also not possible like the WM5 story!
I see lot of people use Alpine. but who can explain me why Alpine can't have Win 05? about hardware?driver?
I think the hardware is good enough (like HTC Universal) but no one of the cracks about ROM coding like Buzz continued the development of WM5 for the Alpine!
:'-(
Even porting to Linux must disable the wifi also.
Hi,
Is this thread to talk about possible?
If you keep reading at Sticky thread under Alpine upgrading about Windows Mobile 5 on XDA IIi it's possible for Alpine to run WM2005 but no one would like to donation device to buzz.
Read at thread Windows Mobile 5 on XDA IIi page 5 #42, buzz had told that he dont have Alpine device. If he got it at that time, Im sure he'll try the best he can.
At the same thread page 6 #59, Daz999 talk about donate to buzzdev and make buzz goes down. If anyone at buzz situation sure feel down because the way Daz999 talk about it. Daz999 dont know what donation means. From that time, buzz seem like not interest about Alpine anymore.
And now with many kind of device released and about WM6 too, everyone sure busy chasing technologies......
Thanks
I sold off my Xda2i already..
Hi! I'm a newbie in this forum and i just got an O2 XDA IIi running WM SE 2003 with all its shipped ROM and ext ROMs. I've been reading posts here for some time and the way I understand it, upgrades like WM5/WM6 and Rom for alpine is kinda difficult or impossible.
I guess my work around here, is to just to add essentials apps, to keep my alpine running fast and smooth. I'm a physician by profession so my XDA is so essential for me.
Anyone of the gurus here recommend any apps/ppc software for my O2 XDA iii that you think might suit my purpose stated earlier?
Big thanks to this forum.
Have a look at some of the SPB stuff, some of it still works on WM2003. Personally i have tried Pocket Plus and Time from them. For a profile manager try PhoneAlarm.
Other than that search this forum for PIM Backup.
Nothing else springs to mind as "vital", and my Alpine is at home so i can't say what else is on it.
Hi All,
My wife got my an XDA 11i it has an upgrade to wm 6.1, it works fine however the wifi doesnt work and it is a little slow, basically i would like to get back the original os version windows 2003 so my questions are as follows.
1. can i downgrade to the original oS
2. Where can i get the rom from
3. Or is there a standalone wireless driver.
Thanks in advance
Mark
Then Mark you have something a lot of people (not me) would give their eye teeth for a XDA IIi with more than 2003SE are you absolutely positive that you have????
But I would have thought that a download of the last "Real" ROM from O2's Irish site (loads of links around here if you search) would have sorted it back to 2003SE
Its definitely 6.1 but without wireless its useless to me as i need to use it on the move wirelessly, what are the irish url's
I needs these roms asap and you could spend weeks on this site serching the forum and ive just started a business and i require the xda on the go.
i just want a xda11i original rom so i can make sure the wireless isnt a hardware issue them i may upgrade again once i know it works.
Thanks Mark
Given all the information above i would say this is actually an XDA II, aka Himalaya, that would account for both the WM6.1 and the absence of WiFi. easy way to check is go to
Start - Settings - Device Information and select the Identity tab, report back which Model it is. i am not a gambling person but even money says it is PH10B, this makes it a Himalaya.
As for the advice re ROMs and Ireland site, search www.O2.ie for ROMs for both Himalaya and Alpine, XDA II and IIi respectively. Make sure you get the right ROM as you run the risk of wrecking it completely.
Hi Deedee,
It looks like it is an XDA 11, so it looks like there aint no wireless.
So it is now the xda 2003 rom i need.
Thanks
It's Xmas, I am in a good mood so here's the link, just pick the right ROM.
O2 ireland XDA ROM
Took two clicks and one search, go to O2.ie, search for "XDA ROM" and pick the fourth option.
Personally i'd stay with WM6.1, the Himalaya I have for mucking about with is WM6, never felt the need to return to WM2003. Is there a technical reason for downgrading? You are going to fond so much that won't work it's probably not worth the effort, apart from the experience. Also you may not get the Extended ROM back even following the downgrade.
Hi Guy's,
I've recently purchased a Xda IIi after owning the original Xda for 2months, and what a phone the Xda IIi is! The technical specifications are close to some of the more recent phones.
I've recently installed the Efficasoft GPRS Monitor and Resco Radio, along with a couple of other useful App's. The only gripe I have with the Xda IIi is that it freezes on the Photo Contacts when it tries to play an MP3 ringtone from the SD Card, but I soon cured this by just removing the custom tones.
I've kept the O2 software on at the moment, and I've downloaded the latest ROM to install once I've plucked up enough courage to install it.
I am also a VB.net developer, and I'm really thinking now of getting my head around the .Net Compact Framework. I'm still amazed there are no upgrades for the Xda IIi to either Windows Mobile 5 or 6, but nevermind this smart little phone has a great following.
I shall be frequenting the forums now I have found them and will put my hand in somewhere
Dave
Hi Dave,
yes, it's a great device! I have 2 of them for years (one for the GF). Who knows maybe nokser (see other thread) will manage to cook a ROM with WM 6.1 or 6.5
Willing to part with one now though, since I recently bought a Topaz, which is also really nice and a lot smaller.
Wishing you lots of fun with the XDA IIi !
Thanks TinTin,
Oh I shall have lots of fun with the Xda 2i. I've had a couple of standalone PPC's before, but its a whole new world opened up with a phone added
I will be keeping my eyes on that thread about WM6. One thing I've noticed reading up on the .Net compact framework, its a little restrictive, but I can cope with it, but I'm always up for a challenge.
I'm heavilly into Ham Radio and internet radio, so you can guess what type of app I'm going to try and write.
My wife thinks the Xda 2i is an ugly phone, and wanted me to get a normal Nokia (Symbian) phone, so I got both, and gave her the N70 lol....
