Being reading this forum for a long time but am still a bit stuck.
Am using HTC Touch ViVa (HTC Opena/HTC T2223) currently with its original WM6.1.
1) I plan to flash to WM6.5 but am totaly confused as to which is the completely working version. Is it V13 or V16 or should I wait for V17?
2) What basically is Manila2D/Manila3D? Which version does Opal has & which would you recommend to install?
3) Can all the themes listed in the "development & hacking" be installed on Opal after/without flashing?

Hi first I change my rom with 6.5 v16, now I'm looking for a wm 6.1 original rom and I can't find one. My advice is to stick with your wm original rom version. If you can make a copy of it please post the rom on the site i will be very happy if you can do that.

Congratulations on your Viva, hope it's working well for you.
1) I'm not into beta flashing, and AFAIK the WM6.5 version is a hacked beta version of the OS, so I don't recommend installing it. Maybe if we wait for the original version to be released by MS, HTC will offer it as a free upgrade.
2) Manila 2D (the one that comes with the Viva) uses tabs instead of a 3D cube (used in Manila 3D on other devices).
M2D is basically a simpler and faster version of M3D, which suits the slower processor of the Viva.
3) I know they can be installed on the original ROM, you should first install and download the M2D Customizer. This program will enable you to skin the M2D on your device, and tweak some of its settings. WM6.5 requires another form of skins, so I think the skins in Development and Hacking are not compatible.

I now that HTC will release an official upgrade to wm6.5 only for HTC Diamond 2 and HTC Touch Pro 2, do you know if also for viva?

I'm not sure about anything, I was just speculating.
Upgrade or hacked, I'm not installing any WM 6.5 ROM until it is officially released by Microsoft.

I undestand. Do you now when is scheduled the official release from Microsoft? I didn't found anything about a date..

The mistake was starting a new thread, not just your impression or grammar.
according to source, wm 6.5 is going to rtm in april, so i think final official version wont be available until then, it is still beta now. i tried chs and david rom, only difference is the interface, touchflo 3d and itatinum, i think touchflo 3d is better, because wm 6.5 version with itatinum dont have weather and stock.

If you look at itje's ROM, my ROM and Ark's ROM we have everything working on all areas or we are just putting the finishing touches on it. All based on official 6.5 ROM

Can anyone confirm if the HTC official WM6.5 ROM for TP2 comes with TellMe software installed as standard?, also do any of the cooks have in in .cab form for WM6.1?
It looks absolutely brilliant but it's probably the only thing I can see that makes upgrading worthwile for me... if there is a .cab file it will save me hell of a lot of hassle ;-)

That's the old 6.5 test rom that has been floating around since mid-august. It's a nice and stable rom but with TF2.1 only.
I think HTC won't give us TF2.5 :-(

It says for the HTC Touch Pro 2 : Release Date yet not available
Since today was the BIG day as per the offical announcements they should have released the offical windows mobile 6.5
But till now no news on the windows website ...

This ROM was released on 2009-10-01, so this can't be the 'new' ROM with WinMo 6.5 right?
@lancelot54: its not 6.5 - its still 6.1 I guess. Look at the date.
I have got the non-branded one but it does not accept neither my SN or IMEI.
People are right. This rom is out of date. The latest french official rom on the site is 1.19.406.1, whereas this is 1.19.73.5 and seems to be older !!!

Take a look in the ROM section! There are loads of 6.5 ROM's to choose from. If you want a standard 'untweaked' version check out this ROM... download V8 in post #2... superb!
Diamond2 official rom on Diamond?

Since the official 6.5 rom is available for Diamond2 (Topaz):

It brings up the question, is it possible or does it make any sense to load it on Diamond, should it work? Of course NBHUtil must be used first.

I am using HTC Touch Diamond2 Topaz and I am very new to Windows Mobile world. I am just confused with what is manila/sense? Why it's required and how to download it for HTC Toudg Diamond2 model?

I have updated to WM 6.5.
In Device information, i don't find the Manila version. Whether I need to download it and install.
Touchflo 3D, the user interface, is also known as Manila.
Sense is described as 'a user experience' based on Touchflo 3D. It's the 'extra' bits, that personalise the phone if you like. It's supposed to make the UI seamless and intuitive.

To clarify, TF3D is now known as 'Sense' in the newer versions. You have Sense 2.1. There are Sense 2.5 versions out there but to use them you would need to update your ROM to a custom one that has it built in.

You won't see the Sense version, but the manila version will tell you if its sense 2.1 or 2.5. If you read up on both, you will see the differences and know which you are on.
There may be a cab installation of a newer manila w/Sense 2.5, however it is recommended to be cooked into the ROM, therefore flashing a custom ROM is your best option.
Make sure you thoroughly read the flashing guide and understand everything.
Ask in that thread if you have any questions about it. Its all quite simple, just make sure you HARDSPL first, or you have an expensive paperweight.
Enjoy, and I guarentee that you'll be happier than what you get out off the box with these devices.

Yes, sense 2.5 has been ported over from the HTC Leo. HTC has not released sense 2.5 on the TD2 AFAIK. Therefore your official stock ROMs are all 2.1.
First read the very first thread under Topaz General- "flashing giuide- start here" thanks to Drag-on.
This will tell you about HOW to flash and all of the necessary steps.
To find a cooked ROM, go to the ROM developement section. Most threads there are ROM threads by various chefs. Even though it may be hundreds of pages in length, it is very impotant to read the first 5 posts which are usually bug reports and fixes, etc. the read at least the last 5 paged of posts to see what the current bugs are.
I am quite pleased with the ROM listed in my signature (which is a clickable link), that is a WM6.5 w/ Sense 2.1.

I am using the Windows Mobile for the first time and using it for about 1 month. I am jsut learning on how to improvise my phone look and feel and performance..any new application to try it out.
By going thru' the beginners guide, I got some idea but still want to confirm it what I thinking is right/wrong? Anyway, some of the users from this thread are helping me by answering queries. Gradually, I will know all the technical terminology and will rock with the cooked rom.

Will the rom for the Rhodium work on the Topaz? HTC tell me it's the same (verbally), hence the the support page showing the rom for Touch Pro 2.

No! For this to happen you'll need to find a suitable radio.nbh for Topaz.
Our WinMo phones can flash the splash screen, OS and radio only.
