From WWDC Latest Iphone twice as quick apparently, has:-
3Mp camera, shoots video, - yawn
7.2Mbps HSDPA, MMS (if carrier supports it) woohoo
Voice control. (been there said it done it)
Built in Compass (not seen that in WM?)
Promised Battery life looks goog - 9 hrs wifi browsing!!!
Same old style, same old interface, all starting to look a bit "last years thing" to me still it is catching up with some features that WM phones have had for a while.
Mmmmm....
If you go line by line trying to match up features, you'll go nuts... not to mention you'll end up comparing to multiple different HTC/WM phones. And you'll still miss why the iPhone is such a success.
All I can say is the $99 3G model is very very appealing, if I wasn't on the plan of my life (SERO).

yup, i have been saying this for quite a while, i mean they say...
A can do this, B can do that and C can do this other thing... but the iPhone cant do all of them "thats fair...."
i really want to see the Pre vs iPhone duke out (i want to get a Pre but still have time to be converted cuz my contract isnt up in a couple of months)
I have to say one thing apple really did not think about the name here "iphone 3G S". wtf?!?! is S for anyway? second round? if so then just put a 2 at the end like most companies => HTC for example.

the 's' is for speed, since apps run 2x faster the made it 3GS...I agree though, lame name.
Im contemplating getting it though, as much as it pains me to say that.
I want the TP2, but not sure when the release date for AT&T is and I am scared my impatience may get the best of me!
wow! upgraded the OS and the phone runs faster, and some new/add features, and they calling it a NEW PHONE iphone 3Gs! no wonder iphone is for iDIOT! what do think the "i" in iphone stands for? i=iDIOT!
if they do this on windows mobiles, they will have a HUGE lawsuit on their ass!
upgraded Touchpro2 with windows 6.5 with add features, phone runs faster, it' the TP2+ !
upgraded sony x1 with windows 6.5 with add features, phone runs faster, it' Sony Xperia X2 !

I believe that with the upgrade, there are still some things that the iPhone3G still can not do. MMS is one I believe, and obviously the extended battery life would be another (among other things)
I noticed you are ATT, how did you get TP2, did you buy it from europe and unlock it for at&t?

i'm sure there' some features in wm6.5 that wm6.1 can not do, they dont call it a new phone just cus you upgraded the freaking OS with added features!
i'm sure if you upgrade your phone radio (rom), you might have better battery life, u still have the same old phone, NOT a new phone!
calling it a new phone, iphone 3Gs is false adversting!
As with all things apple, it is marketed so well, the point of my post was not to slag off the iphone, (it does after all have many things in its favour) but to point out that apple have an uncanny ability to add features that are old hat an most other platforms (not just WM) and sell them as in some way revolutionary.

Some of you guys are really reaching here. Upgrading a ROM leads to better battery life?
Also, don't forget that before 6.1, every new release required a new phone. I still have a WM5 Moto Q that Moto never upgraded to WM6.
Also, my expensive Touch Pro only records in crappy QCIF
Apple products are all about style and simplicity. Most are made so that your grandma can pickup and use them. If apple took the 3g and raised the price to 120 and called it jphone 3g, it would still sell more than any other smartphone because of the interface. FYI not an apple fanboy, I do own several windows mobile devices and it is my favorite platform. And think about it windows mobile and other os's are spread over several devices, If you want apple's os you only have the iphone, the ipod touch doesn't make cellular network calls.

not a rom, but a radio could give you better battery life / reception etc
pending on the ROM. that is why its good to read which radios have been tested =]
Apple is Great Marketing and medium products (it's not a flame, only reality).
10mins ago I see to TG5 about iPhone 3GS... I haven't see about other Device (only 10 seconds to Nokia and Omnia): Great Marketing!!!
They could sell jPhone without problems
Yeah, their marketing is what makes the difference.
They market things like MMS and Copy/Cut/Paste like they were big changes.
Does it run mulitple applications
Can the iPhone run multiple applications. I dont have much knowledge abt iPhone- Like I am listening to music, browsing wifi and suddenly receive call. While the call is getting recorded(call recorder) access word or excel file or even lookup to email or sms received and on hangup , the call the recorder stops- music continues and you can get back to browsing from where you left.

No Call Recorder (that i know of) but everything else is possible on a stock iPhone.
there's no competition for the difference in plan rate if you scored sprint sero
even on my evdo htc mogul/titan 6800 the opera browser (turbo or mini socket/proxy) gives 7mbps for web page loading
i sense i'm not missing too much except more memory and some hard drive space should you drop the extra $100 for the 32gb iphone
but then again a 16gb microSD card is only $50
slendering down my brick with extended battery to match that of the iphone doesn't justify the price offset i receive for an outdated phone with cheap accessories
it does enough for a device in my pocket to keep me happy
but if money isn't an option...there seem to be just as good options in the wm market
about the only product i am really in desire of from "the other side" is one of their past mac bluetooth keyboards for my wm phone
how you like them apples
Truth is - price point is the key. Look at how many Tilt's were purchased and how many people joined this forum when ATT had them on sale from .01 to 99 dollars.

I know, Kaizer packs more in, but i hate 3G due to battery drainage and am happy with Edge. The Apple is way cooler no doubt, but no gps and the keyboard sucks?
tough call...
Your poll is gonna be a bit biased hah
Iphone lacks 3rd party support
can't swap battery
no keyboard
not subsidised
premier discounts voided
just a few reasons I can think of at the moment.
Also many ppl who *would* have an 4/8 gig Iphone have a 20-80gig Ipod already, so theres little advantage to getting it other than its kinda cool.
Don't know what you think your poll is going to show other than Teens will vote for ipone and Business folk will go for the Kaiser....
d
I vote for iphone.
HAHAHAHAHA!
Definitely Kaiser! Can't wait for it to hit the shelves!
Well considering the only thing you say you don't like about the Kaiser is the 3G then i'd suggest you run with the Kaiser as you can choose which network to be connected to on-the-fly.
iPhone really is the most overhyped phone to ever be released.
i'd go for the kaiser out of the two because i like the keyboard, and i'm not really a fan of apple products - and i think having a phone with a non user replaceable battery is lunacy!
what about the new se p1i? i used to really like sony's but went for the tytn as i couldn't be arsed to wait any longer for the p990...

so far only 3 votes on the iphone lol
http://www.mobile-review.com/articles/2007/iphone-name-en.shtml
after reading that, i think you will have only 1 choice... i was really shocked of course i had my bias, but i didnt know it was that bad and that limited
EDGE???
Show me the place in UK where it works???
AFAIK there's no EDGE on nay of UK networks...
Im pretty sure Orange supports EDGE.
It all depends on what you are doing.
I have used the iPhone (my brother's) and I must say that is is pretty slick and rock-solid in terms of connectivity - albeit slow connectivity relative to 3G.
IMHO - if you need something that is half-baked iPod, half-baked iPhoto plus a phone with pretty bad audio, but WAY COOL looking - you get an iPhone. Of course, you cannot mind being tethered to the mother ship.
Now, if you are mobile, need email, want to download RSS feeds, video and audio podcasts and need all of the connectivity options to handle scenarios ranging from client office wireless networks to airports to taxicabs and your own office Plus you want some music and photos of your kids (or car or babe), you get a Kaiser.
Now if either of them had that 1.2 million color screen of the N95 we would be talking some serious beauty!
Personally, I will be camping - pre-iPhone style in front of my ATT store on September 3 for a Kaiser!
Umm, no offense to anyone but it seems to me that when one considers phone purchase of this kind, the iCrap and the Kaiser cannot be in the same category.
Its not a tough call... the Iphone is a piece of **** for people that don't have a hard demand on their phone. If you are a power user get a Kaiser.
if you want features besides an mp3 player and a picture viewer like every phone out there has, get the kaiser.
It is as comparing Apples with Pears (Tytn II) ;o))
Blasphemer
If you were true to htc and windows mobile you would stick with the kaiser, iphone even thou its got its nufty features like that zoomng in and the keyboard (which on our windows mobile you can now simulate) its still buggy even after the updates at least with kaiser you know its got windows mobile 6 plus u get full keyboard and the tilt and brilliant for the gps even thou the battery would drain faster who cares go on ebay get a higher capacity battery and in car charger then get a extra battery while your there and a exturnal battery charger thats what i did for the Htc Universal (which sadly broke grr that usb port breaking and then gettting stuck in bootloader mode)

Oh dear. No-one should stick to a product just because of the company that makes it.
The iPhone is a good bit of kit. Sure, it's got its flaws (no 3G, no custom ringtones) but for the average person that wants to trade in their iPod and Nokia for a single device, it'll do the job.
Most people are here because they use Pocket PC phones. The iPhone can't compete with them (however much it pretends it can). It's locked down, it's got limited email options and frankly, we're used to being able to customise our devices up the wazoo.
If Apple made a decent phone and HTC came out with a turkey, staying with them through loyalty would be foolish to the extreme.
You may show loyalty to a company, but at the end of the day, they're only interested in profits, and they will not reciprocate.
This poll is bound to be biased...
I mean, this is a WM developers forum. After the amount of work we put into the PPCs, most other phones(including the iPhone) look slightly,er, stupid?
On the other hand, I do wish HTC gave us 3in VGA screens. Come on HTC!, Arima does it.
Kaiser all the way.
What can the Iphone do that a Kaiser wont be able to do once the geniuses here at XDA-developers have a a tweak with the ROM. Isn't it only a matter of time before someone comes out with an implementation of the pinch/squeeze-zoom for photos afaik this is the only feature WM devices can't currently match.
i dont know if this is the right place to post because you guys will obviously be biased towards the tilt..
what do u think , should i buy a Tilt or the current Iphone ?
i like to browse the net thru wifi quite a bit, check emails. also while talking voice quality is important, signal strenth is important too.
any suggestions is appreciated specially if someone has owned both of these 2. thx

Not sure what you mean about "weren't too much opinions" but this forum is full of opinions about the iPhone and Tilt and you will find some very heated opinions to boot.
On I side note: I have the Tilt, my wife has the 8525, and my Brother in-law has the iPhone. Each His (Or Her) own....
IMO ~ You may have just reopened a big can off &%#* as this forum is not a iPhone forum and iPhone or related threads generally get bashed on. Start a Poll!!!!
i have heard the Tilt is fat and bulky compared to the sleek Iphone....
and the Tilts touch screen scratches easily and have to use stylus... whereas iphone screen is scratch resistant... i think.
but ofcourse I like HTC, and i like Windows Mobile6 ...i currently own a different HTC phone with wm6 custom rom. so before yall think abt bashing me, im a custom WM6 Rom fanboy...

i have both and i love the tilt better
iphone after a while gets repetitive and boring
tilt theres more to discover by the day
Well, if the iPhone ran Windows Mobile it would be a close call, even with all the WM "limitations", it is still far greater and customizable then the iPhone interface, in which basically... you can swap icons.
Plus Gps, 3G and whatever else the iPhone misses.
iPhone has a bigger and more resistant screen and that's pretty much all I can see about iPhone having better.
I think comparing this version of the iphone and tilt isnt close without 3g and gps. But if you don't use those who knows. The iphone is defintely thinner and sleeker. But the wm phone is much more functiona.
Skyfire browses the web just as well as the iphones and handles all flash content, can't beat that.
well i would get tilt myself but i got piles of 3th party progs which is wm
and want something better then edge and want flash support
but i do think iphone looks better but then i never were a big fan of the looks of kaiser
get both and then decide which one u want and then sell the other one.
I have both, here's my opinion
Tilt
Pro's:
3G
GPS
WMWifiRouter & tethering
Youtube
MicroSD Slot
Easy to sawp sim card
Exchange/Direct Push
Quake I & II
Microsoft Mobile Office
Con's:
Battery life
size (lets face it, compared to the iphone the tilt is a brick)
video issues
slow at times
can't get NES roms to work properly (thats for me atleast)
WM is designed to be used with a stylus, I know, touchflow TRIES tomake up for it, but falls short imo
OEM headset sucks
iPhone:
Pro:
easy to use
video playback is great
surfing the internet is quick and fun (despite the 2.5 modem)
Installer app is really nice (if u hack/unlock ur iphone)
the ipod functions are nice
great ebook reader imo
Accelerometers
screen size & quality
multi touch
threaded sms out the box
solid feel to it
size
comes with a cradle and nice headset
Con:
2.5G modem
No tehtering
no gps
no video recorder (but can be downloaded via installer)
no exchange
calander sucks
keyboard sucks
iPhone plans suck (with AT&T)
App icons on homescreen are static, meaning it wont update the weather on the front screen, u have to open the app to see the weather
screen does not recognize a stylus
easy to scratch
I had my tilt first, and I loved it, and thought it was the best phone ever... I just got my iphone roughly a month ago, and I fell in love all over again. Dont get me wrong though, I wouldnt say anyone of the phones is superior to the other... They are 2 different styles of phones, one is a buisness type personal manager, and the other is a entertainment device. I love the tilts connectivity, I travel a lot for work, and I got to school at night. Its nice to be able to whip out the tilt, connect to the internet and share the connection with my laptop. Also during my travels, if i get lost, TomTom will always direct me to my destination. The iphone is great when going out a night, its slim shape allows me to have in my pocket, for my tilt i have to use a belt clip/pouch.
So there ya go... You just need to make sure the phone your getting suits your needs... the tilt suits my business life, the iphone my personal life... I wish there was a device that did both in 1.. maybe the next HTC device or the 3G iphone will cover all bases... we'll see

I'm a new user here which means my opinion doesn't count as much, ;-), but I'll throw my 2 cents in anyways. I'm looking for a "one device to rule them all" type thing. The Kaiser and the iPhone 1.0 are close. However, I think the phones that'll make me happy are either the TyN IV or the iPhone 3.0. The above poster is right that the WM6 isn't great at entertainment/personal apps and the iPhone isn't great at business apps. In the race of the Tyn IV and the iPhone 3.0, I think that Apple will win because their interface is so much more polished, integrated, and smooth.
Oh, I just got a Kaiser on Friday, I've been using an iPod for years, but don't have an iPhone.
A Man's Phone
I have a tilt and my wife has an iphone. So that is easy , the Tilt is a man"s phone and the iphone is a girl's phone. Just Kidding (kinda) Higherbeing had all the technicals right. I run a business totally (mostly) on my tilt. From editing documents on the go, to planning my day, to finding my way to jobsites(GPS)to organizing contact and the constant flow of emails and I do it all at 3G speed , I could not see me with an iphone. My wife texts her friends, listens to music at the gym, gets a email or two from work, shows everyone pictures of the family, watches a youtube video or two checks the weather occasionally and laughs at my stylus. Like they say, to each his/her own.
oh yea forgot mobile office as one of the pro's on the tilt...

I bought an iPhone for my wife and a Tilt for myself a few weeks later. At times I've regretted not getting the iPhone in part because:
It has a slightly larger screen
It has a slimmed down version of iTunes.
The touch screen gestures are very intuitive and work out of the box.
There's a steeper learning curve for the Tilt. However, once you get a handle on the basics (thanks xda!!) it can be a more powerful device for a few reasons:
3G is a lot better than Edge.
Built in GPS is awesome.
Works with a lot more bluetooth devices.
There's a lot more software out there for Windows Mobile than for the iPhone.
The slide out keyboard can really come in handy for those longer emails.
Office mobile and built-in full featured exchange sync
Some of these advantages can be had if you unlock the iphone and use FreeBSD/MacOS X software directly.
If you're like me and you're mainly interested in having the benefits of a computer in a very small form factor (one you can carry around - one device to rule them all so to speak) I'd go with the Tilt. The iPhone is wonderful but it's also kind of constraining.
I think this sums up my thoughts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKsJDLj4nDI
Plus the Tilt is hotter in this video.
thanks for all the post guys... i think the Tilt is the right fone for me.... even though im using Tmobile so 3G phone is useless.
i like the GPS with TomTom feature too...
i might also buy the Iphone later if they drop the price... which they might since the new iphone is coming out very soon.

No problem. Tilt has more options.
Also, I laugh at your statement of Apple dropping their price. My company unfortunately uses some Apples in its Design Department. I've never seen the price go down. When they announce a new "upgrade" The old one sells at the same price, or is dropped $20, while the new one sells for $50 or more over. Then when the old one is sold out, the new ones price drops down to the Old ones price. Just in time for it to start all over again. In fact the price on iMacs has gone UP incrementally.
OK so now that both have been officially announced, and both will be out in the UK in July, what would you go for and why?
Personally, I iPhone 3G holds a lot of appeal for me, it has resolved all its shortcomings from the original version it’s a tough choice.
For me, the only thing holing me back are: -
1. Support for third party applications, it’s limited at the moment, but will get better over time.
2. A proper satnav application that can make use of the built in GPS (TomTom on the iPhone 3G!)
Please share your thoughts...
Most of the new software features are things that Windows Mobile has done for ages. I'm actually quite pleased with the 3G iPhone - the Touch Diamond has it beaten in key areas for me. These include style, size (apparently it has got bigger, while HTC has managed to make the Touch Diamond smaller than the Touch), handy features and third-party applications.
What shocks me is the way people are reacting to some of the features - Apple seemed to introduce A-GPS as some sort of new innovation, when the Touch Diamond is already out in places, with that very feature...
If you heard the keynote you'll see that apple will have the phone call home. They also sign every executable. That means 'homebrew' wont really exist.
They said that developers can still make free apps, but they have to be distributed through the apple store. In the end thats not going to make a huge difference and you'll see plenty of apps for the iphone appear very very quickly.
For me the 3g iphone wins in everything except size and screen resolution. The main thing that made me think twice about the diamond was the 3g iphone battery life!
.. to be continued.. not decided yet
Dark Fire I know what you mean. Apple fan-boys always seem to be impressed when Apple implement something Windows has been doing for years, and this is not just in iPhone but also the Mac OS as well.
For my money I would go with the Touch Diamond anyday. Apple will always have too much control over it for my liking - I mean today people seemed ecstatic that Apple would now allow you to make and buy applications for it!

True, but you got to admit whatever windows does, osx and linux do about 10 fold faster.
Can't buy an iPhone, if you have fingernails, you can't use the keyboard. Useless.
Actually that reminds me... on the iphone you can press a key, and it kind of pops up the letter above your finger. You can slide your finger to another letter if that one is wrong i.e. it only picks the letter when you lift your finger.
Does the HTC keyboard do that at all?
Well, as pointless it may be to others, size & weight really matters to me & the Diamond fits perfectly in my hand or pocket can't say that about the iphone the only downside to having that stunning 3.5" screen.
No, it doesnt
someone1234 - Yes.
I think I will be sticking with the diamond, and then waiting and seeing what applications come out for the iPhone. I can always move over to it.
Would you need to include the Sammy i900 in this comparison? Due about the same time.

cool! thanks.
I think once the 3G iphone is unlockable i'll buy one. For $199 its a bargain. Until then its not worth it - there'll be no decent apps, and what there are will probably cost stupid money.
So I'm decided.. sticking with diamond.
Size is the big issue for me. Diamond wins hands down.
In fact, the only point that iPhone wins is in the interface but TouchFlo is not far behind now, after tweaks
Somehow i think an unlocked iphone 3g is gonna cost a lot more than $200!! more like $300-$350 your forgetting thats $200 plus a maybe 2 year contract!
IMO the diamond has it beat apart from the memory.
Diamond has these over the 3g iphone:
Twice the resolution
video calling
faster browsing
Stereo bluetooth Headphone Support (not confirmed on the 3g iphone)
Picture Messaging (not confirmed on the 3g iphone)
Stylus if prefered
Better Camera
Way More Apps and games for now.
Not restricted to certain providers.

Yes, it definitely does that. The problem with the HTC keyboard is that the letter doesn't appear above the key you're pressing - the key sort of expands, so it's still mostly obscured by your finger. I don't really know why HTC thought that was better...

Exactly my point. The tables have turned - the Touch Diamond has the 3G iPhone out handy-featurised and, if anything, the Touch Diamond slightly wins on specs too.
Also, yeah, I think $199 is with a contract. I was reading that Apple wouldn't let network operators subsidise the iPhone before, but now they will let them do that, hence the much lower price.

Personally, I iPhone 3G holds a lot of appeal for me, it has resolved all its shortcomings from the original version it’s a tough choice.

But.... how about cut/copy/paste -- no mention of them.
For me, after trying two different iphones, I have to say that iphone2 is underwhelming -- we who have WinMo phones have been using the direct push email for more than a year and the volume of apps available (many either free or very inexpensive) tip the balance. I know apple has an advantage in controlling hardware and software-- they can optimize them and we see faster performance (but not always) -- but with WinMo there's both hardware and software that will fit everyone's needs/wants. Speed isn't everything.... and I kind of like the freedom from "mother apple" control (according to current info it will be extremely difficult to jailbreak this system).
Why you need an apple when there is HTC
one thing iPhone 3G got its CHEAP hehehehe
hai
i would know who is the better the diamond or iphone 3g and why and what is more easy use, and ther is alot of diffrent ???
thanks
i think diamond is better with size.
if you talking about OS and UI, Microsoft is far left behind Apple since Macintosh age in 198X.
However, how come MacOS better than Vista so much but still most people using Windows ?
If you had ever tried an iPhone, you will know how worst to copy files from PC to iPhone using iTune...
In current stage, if you need me to choose again, i am still 50 50.
I saw the iPhone 3G had been announced earlier, and I realised it has a pretty good spec. Wouldn't mind picking one up on eBay. Wouldn't need unlocking as I'm on O2, and it does have a really good spec. Except for the camera, it's got everything I need. Also, the Samsung i900 is pretty damn amazing. Take a look at it.
Rory
the iphone has a crap camera 2meg not upgraded since the original iphone. The camera in the original iphone was terrible.
Also is it true the Iphone 3G has no front mounted camera so you cant do video calling?
Do I use video calling? No.
Did I take out my K800i when I had a Touch/Athena to take pictures? Yes
Will I do the same with iPhone 3G and P1i? probably, if I do get an iphone that is.
If the i900 has a capacitive touch screen will I say **** iPhone? Yes!
Rory
yes it dont seem to have a frontcam
it got a much bigger screen but with a lower res then diamond
non of them got sdflash support
only diamond can work as modem for laptops or pc's
one issue imho with iphone is that to make applications for it one have to run macosX så windows owners cant easy do that so unless it gets really big some developers may stick with wm
imho then ipod touch is an ipod with touchscreen and os with wifi internet browser and iphone is an pod touch with phone
and the new one is with a 3g phone
Maybe the rest of the world is taking pictures with their phones in different places than me, but despite the 2MP camera on the iPhone vs 3MP elsewhere, I have found the iPhone camera to be far superior to any other camera phone I've ever used... And I've been through half a dozen at least. Light sensitivity on the iPhone yields decent photos even in dark bars, and great 'snapshots' during the day. Every WM camera phone I've ever had yields nothing but 3MPs of blurriness in the daytime, and of black pixels at night...
What about synchronization with MS Exchange? This is critical to me, and even though activesync has it's flaws, it's been around a long time and I can always make it work. Am I correct in assuming that the 3G iphone just recently added this functionality? Does anyone besides myself have concerns about how it will work?
Why are you lot arguing over the camera? The Touch Diamond has the iPhone beaten. All Apple have done with the iPhone 3G is introduce features that have been in Windows Mobile for ages, and upgraded it to 3G. Notice how they spent far more time comparing the new iPhone to its predecessor rather than competitors (unlike when the original iPhone was announced)? That's because everyone else has caught up in terms of hardware while Apple have been playing catch-up with their software.
another useless phone in some aspects!
???
and one simple gps software turn by turn like TomTom?
No? crap... that´s impossible to use gps in car...!!!
things that i dont understand!!!
rgs~
NOTE: left 2 days for my htc diamond arrive..
Apple locks up the iPhone, wont let unsigned applications run on it and releases an SDK with ****ty restrictions and then claim their device to be rock stable.
If you're cool with that, go for the iphone. If you want a little more freedom, go for the diamond or wait for android based phones!
I will go for HTC, use to have iphone its only thing you can do is via itunes, you have convert every thing in itunes to play, bluetooth is only works with handsfree.
waiting got t-mobile to launch mda com iv so i can upgrade.
Hey,
Im moving on from my trusty MDA and came apon a few decently priced At&t Tilts. Ive read over the driver issues and just wanted the opinions of some current and/or previous owners.
Just so you know, I have owned a Wing, MDA and currently a Blackjack2 and had flashed/upgraded the HTCs several times. Thats why I want to come back to an HTC device.
Thanks in advance.
go for it dude

Personally, I think it is a great phone.
I agree. Fully functional 3D drivers or not, this is still the most amazing phone on the market for price point. The only thing I would personally get above this phone is the touch pro....and that wont be for some time to come
I've had a tilt since oct 07. Wouldn't give it up for anything. Does it play 3d perfectly, no...but I didn't buy it to play movies & mp3 files. Does it have as quality camera as my old SE W810i? No, but with patience, it does pretty darn well. I got the tilt because it allowed me to replace a phone & PDA with one device. I use mobile office around 10-15 times a day, 20-30 text messages a day, the camera maybe once or twice a week, and it is without a doubt the best
device I've owned. it has it's quirks, but what device doesn't?
here hear, awesomest phone i have ever owned. I was looking for a phone i could replace my phone and pda with. it rocksas far as features. sure the graphics suck. but they get the job done in a pinch. weee it's the most technologicaly advanced phone that att has right now. I dont have to synch eight devices. i just got rid of my laptop. I use this for most everything. i have school comp labs for everything else. i thought about taking it back and waiting fr something better to come out. but. when the touch pro comes out it will cost 450 dollars with a new 2 year agreement. school stsrts before then anyways. HEY thanks you guysfor making this the coolest phone it can be with what is available. is there any feature that another phone has that this one does not. in america anyways. it is a business phone. it does just that. it will play most regular phone games out there. damn it doesnt play crysis at maximum detail. boo hoo. it is a freakin miracle these slow resricted devices can do what they do. having said that. im sure my opinion would be changed with a good foreign phone. hey and htc come on. what other company out there encourages hacking their phones by putting xda developers in their wiki. i have dropped this thing onto concrete hard twice and to my knowledge it hasnt phased it. oh and btw. i dont have a data plan for my phone. i am typing this on my tilt at panera bread on my hardware giant qwerty keyboard. this has taken me fifteen mins to write. do that iphone. do that old style 12 key phones. i just got the thing and i am typing fast on it. if you want a gaming phone this is not for you. if you want relatively long battery life when you surf the net using wifi get this phone. i am comparing the batt life to my sony clie which had first generation pda wifi in it. i have gone over an hour today surfing the web. i still have 20 pecent left and i started with like 60. my clie could only go for like 45 mins with a brand new battery with a slower processor. well panera bread is cosing and i should probably get home. but it isnt becase my pda ran outof juice. i have the oem batt btw. good night all. i hope this helps you in your quest fora new phone.
i have owned the tilt since Nov 2007 and it has been a excellent pocket pc/phone. what i really like about the phone is having the ability to flash the rom that chefs have to offer. it's nice to have options and incredible free applications out there offered by the programmer's.
i have been through four previous pocket pc phones and it's nice for once that there is everything packaged into one device. I use gps, wifi, watch movies, listen to mp3s, outlook/exchange, bluetooth etc.. i take the phone to the limits and it meets expectations.
despite the video driver problem, its not a big deal if you are really into eye candy.
if you have other questions, you can email me..

Nooo. Don't get it. I personally plan on selling my Tilt and shelling out some cash to get the AT&T Fuze (Touch Pro). It's much better. The retail pricing is only about $100-200 more then the Tilt's. So it'll retail for about $550/$650 w/o contract. =) This is a great deal compared to $1k. It's going to come out before year's end and AT&T data managers are currently testing the Fuze. It'll be out before 08 ends I can swear on it. It has a different color TF3D as we've seen. It has no front camera and an extra button for PTT. That's about it.
Guess how I got this info =)

Rofl. I know exactly what I'm talking about
I dont want to sound negative
but your posting on a Kaiser forum and asking people who own a Tilt if they advise you to get it... haha i got a feeling your gonna get around 90% yes...
the real test is to ask some guys who have a htc touch diamond or some of the other smart phones out there what they think of the Kaiser...
oh and my answer is yes... get it... with the right tweaks and a few apps to your liking, it will be the best phone you have owned (well atleast it is the best phone i have had)
I had mine since March. Pretty good phone. A tad on the heavy side. And depends on how you like to hold it, the little corner of the USB port may dig into your pinky. The AT&T bloatware are garbage but nothing you can't fix on your own. There are enough people that like it to get a constant supply of goodies.
Knowing what I know now, would I get it again? Probably.

I look for speed and stability in a PPC, and I'm sorry to say that once again I have not found it in a HTC phone. I previously had the S710. Compared to that, the TYTN-II is fast as lightning. But compared to previous Sony Ericsson and Palm phones, the TYTN-II is sloppy. Admittedly it has GPS and WI-FI, which the others did not. The stability is below what I think is reasonable to expect for a smartphone in 2008. The touchscreen and buttons are occasionally unresponsive, and normal operation is often replaced by random "irregularities". I soft reset the device some 1-3 times a week, because unexpected stuff just happens: ranging from missed calls, broken activesync, unable to connect to EDGE network, software crashes, buttons not working.
Yet I hold on to it. It sports a nice set of features, and the software for it is plentyfull. The stability and performance can be improved by careful configuration (involving a lot of trial-and-error), but be prepared to spend a lot of hours on it. If you are a "point-and-shoot" type of person, who just want a phone that works out of the box, you may be disappointed with this one.
At least this is my personoal experience with the phone. Your milage may vary!
If you're prepared to put up with what can at times be an annoyingly slow user interface, then I don't see why not. The feature-set is excellent, the build quality is excellent and the tilting display shows no sign of flimsy construction. It has a nice weight to it and feels comfortable to hold and use.
But the dsmn lack of drivers *REALLY* grates at me after a while, especially when switching between portrait/landscape modes. The more time goes on, the more you notice how slow it is. There are tweaks that help, for example if you set the X button to close instead of hide apps the effect of this is minimised somewhat, but that shouldn't be necessary.
Unless you have patience for a UI with an average speed of "slow" I would go for one of HTCs other offerings which actually uses the hardware it contains, although if the custom drivers that are underway reach completion, perhaps the Kaiser will be a serious contender. So if you DO buy one, you may think of it as an investment for the future

I have a Wizard (8125) and a Kaiser (Tilt) and just got a Hermes (8525) for another family member - the Kaiser obviously has the best feature set, but the build quality of the other two is better, IMO. The 8125 is clunky looking, but solid, and the spacing of the keys makes it much easier not to miss-key. The 8525 is super-solid, has the best battery cover, and I think is the best looking.
That said, I will keep using the Kaiser. I have also tried i-mate 8502 and HP iPaq 910c, and returned to the Kaiser. The chrome is wearing down on the buttons, and some of HTC's software design on it is annoying (e.g. fast backlight shutoff - fixable of course). In the inevitable comparison to iPhone 3G, the iPhone does some things amazingly well (threaded SMS, internet browsing) but still doesn't have a spreadsheet for crying out loud! I depend on Excel, use it constantly in eyecare clinic.
So despite its flaws, the Kaiser is the best thing for me - until Touch Pro for AT&T 3G is available - then I will get that - the 5 row keyboard and the VGA screen are the big pluses there, and you can never have too much memory.
You know I researched a lot before buying my tilt, knowing I would need to unlock and flash it to get the functionality I wanted. I could not be happier with my purchase. Things I know I can not do with an Iphone easily or at all at no additional cost include excel & word editing, connect to Citrix, RDP, tether my laptop by either USB or BT. As for the d3d drivers, while they would be nice I don't see them as mandatory since this is first a phone and a PDA not a iPod. That said, I have no issue other than bandwidth when I comes to streaming media through ORB to my TILT and playback is more than acceptable for me.
Just do it since your no stranger to flashing,
z
