I am using the default email client in WM. I check email manually only when I need it to save battery life and cut down on un-needed notifications.
The problem I have is that my emails are not sorted based on when they are sent. The only date option for sorting is "Received" date. For some reason, the received date does not seem to have anything to do with the date it was sent.
So, when I do a Send/Receive, I want the most recent on the top of the list. But if it has been a few days, I get a couple hundered message and it is almost impossible to sort through because they are all mixed up.
Does anyone else have this issue? Also, do you have another email client you would recommend?
Thanks for any advice.

Email help
I use FlexMail every now and then when I flash a rom that gives me the same problems you are describing. They have a 30 day trial so you can test it and see if it will work for you. It offers Folder support and multiple signatures. The only free fix I have found is a differant ROM.

what rom are you using?
what email settings are you using? imap or pop?
What email client?
When you use pop internet clients, like gmail or yahoo, that thread messages, all the messages come out when pop. on imap though, it keeps it organized in date format.
maybe try removing all accounts and reinstalling your account and making sure to use imap.
try emoze you, with the newest version you can sync any email....

I've been trying to find a way to fix this...
Is there a way or a setting somewhere that stops the Tilt from downloading messages I send/reply or is that a setting a gmail. It is annoying when I reply to an email using the gmail web interface or with outlook on my PC, then my phone will download my mail as a new message. I don't really want to set up some sort of filter, since some times when I send an email, I will CC myself, but I am just annoyed by it downloading every single reply.
Uuuuuhhhhhhh o.k.
stop CC'ing yourself, just check your sent box... too simple or not complex enough a solution?

Did you read the problem or not understand it? The problem is when I reply to emails, the Tilt will download it as a new message. Where did I state that I CC myself all the time? What does checking my sent messages have anything to do with what the Tilt is downloading?
little snippy...
Pretty sure you not only said it, but now you've highlighted the fact that you sometimes CC yourself on emails sent, so yes, you would receive a copy. You would check your sent box to view messages that you have sent rather than CC'ing yourself. Mighty snippy for someone asking for help. Are you using a threaded version of Gmail? that's the only reason I could think you would receive a copy of the conversation, aside from CC'ing yourself.
If you read it, it says SOMETIMES. My problem is EVERY email reply gets downloaded. The CCs aren't a problem and not something I am complaining about. I am complaining about all replies done by me being downloaded as a new email. My response to you would have been different if you actually replied like you read it what the problem was.
updated after you posted
Trying again, are you using a threaded style of Gmail or the true Gmail website?
Not really sure. I rarely ever use the gmail website unless I am at a different computer. Most of my email comes to my phone and PC, which I remote into during work and just use Outlook to respond if I can. I'll try to explain the problem better. I apologize, just having a hectic day at work.
When someone emails me, the Tilt will download the email.
I will reply back using the tilt, or Outlook on my PC, and every once in a while, the gmail web interface. NOT CCing myself.
Tilt then downloads again, my reply and puts it in my inbox.
The only time I CC myself, is when I send out a new email that I feel is important. I do this because I like to have a copy for myself, and I empty my sent box on a weekly basis.
Also, I just did a web search on this threaded gmail thing you were talking about. It appears that is a 'feature' in gmail and it can't be disabled. It puts my replys in a 'conversation' style so it thinks that my replies are new messages and just downloads them. I guess I just have to deal with it.
More questions
Does ONLY the tilt capture all replies or do they also show up on your box at home and is this independant of from where you reply (home box or tilt)? Gmail uses a conversation view that shows reply messages as a long conversation would appear in MMS/SMS. I can't imagine that this would cause the problem but may be another piece to this puzzle.
Don't worry about my comments, I'm a smart-ass. Pretty much everyone is here to help and there are many more smart-assier (and just plain smarter) than me. Just roll with the punches and enjoy the website.
I must type slowly
I use Gmail and reply from my tilt as well, but have not had a problem. But i don't use a web app, I have gmail as a separate account that I access just like standard push-mail. What way do you use gmail?
Same problem
When I used my tilt I was having the same problem. I would send an email from my tilt (from a push account I had set up on the phone) and would receive a copy of the sent mail as a new message. I had that phone for 2 years and used various roms and could never stop it from doing so. It was very annoying to say the least. Some light on this matter would be awesome.
If I can, I just use email from the phone, or outlook on my PC if there is a large attachment. It only does it on the Tilt. My outlook on the PC is only showing up the emails from other people, and not myself. I can see on the web interface my replies though if I log on.
I have it set up on the Tilt as an account as well, so I am not using the gmail interface thru the phone. Not sure how I have it setup or if it is a seperate email software. I just click on messages and added the email account. It doesn't matter where I reply from. I also have a Yahoo account set up and it doesn't do this.
Also, the phone info:
Duttys WM6.1 build 19700
radio 1.65.14.06
I had this problem once and I was because I forget to change the "[email protected]" that I used during the initial setup back to my actual e-mail address.
I just fixed the issue. I deleted the account from the phone and recreated a new one and set it up as IMAP. I think the issue at first was because I had it set up and let the phone download the settings for me and it configured it as POP. This time, I set up everything manually and tested it out and it appears to be fine now.
It is possible not do download to your phone all the inbox, but only certain email flagged (labeled) in gmail based on a filter?
I tried to setup the inbox label to only synch to 0 days... no luck, back to minimum of 1 day (Sycn none option unavailable for the inbox). I don't want to download all my email, just those that got labeled.
Another workaround is to forward them to another account for just the mobile device, but I then end managing two Gmail accounts. Any ideas?

You can filter all your mail that is incoming and move all of it to other labels, so it never really is in the inbox.
Unfortunately if the email is not in the inbox, it will not be downloaded even if you applied another label to it and tell Gmail in the Hero to download those with that label... or I am doing something wrong?

I'm saying apply only a label to the email you DON'T want synced. So the only mail that is left in your inbox is what you want synced.
Does that make sense?
Got it!! But instead of just applying a label, emails needs to be "moved" from Inbox. And, under filtering, the only way to do it is to mark "Skip the Inbox (Archive it)" and then all emails from now on "disappears" from Inbox (you can see them in All Mail "folder").
Problems with this? Once you Sync the phone (I don't know if I am doing something wrong) it gets lot of emails even if you specified only to Sync a few days. May be this can be solved by archiving everything before setting up the filtering and synching.
...AND when you return to your Inbox (regular Web Gmail) you need to select "All Mail" every time since this is not the default view (and I don’t find a way to change that) to view those emails that may be are important, but you just don’t want them on your phone right away... and that piss me off.

Basically, i'll get a notification saying I have new e-mail (number of new e-mails is random), so i'll slide down the notification bar, click the e-mail notification and it takes me to my inbox... where I have no new e-mails.
I've tried refreshing the inbox to see if it was seeing e-mails not in the inbox yet somehow, and that didn't do it. The only thing I can think of is that my gmail account has an [Imap]/Trash Folder now that has 36 unread messages, and those are the e-mails I deleted without reading (Spam mostly). Is that what's triggering it?
It seems to be the same number of e-mails I received recently, so I think it's sending duplicate notices. Example: I'll receive 4 emails, 2 from a friend of mine, one from a newsletter I read an another spam. I'll read 3, delete the 4th unread, close the mailbox and then 5 minutes later i'll get a notification saying I have between 1 and 4 new e-mails, whereupon i'll check my inbox and there's nothing there.
Anybody know what's going on? I'm using the default captivate mail app to check my e-mail, not the google e-mail app. The google one never gives me this issue. (two different gmail accounts linked to the two different apps so I know which one mail is coming from)
Mine does this too. It's not random though. Whenever I delete an email and it's sent to my trash folder I will receive a new email notification shortly after. If I delete 3 emails, I will receive a notification for 3 new emails the next time it syncs with the server.
So how do we stop it? Stop using the default e-mail app?
Are there other/better e-mail apps out there?

I had the same kind problems with mine, it was also slow sometimes while downloading messages.
The gmail app is good if your using gmail. If not I've had good luck with MailDroid. There are other email apps in the market you can try.
had same problem. this fixed it for me:
from home screen
settings buttong > select settings
Hit applications > manage applications
hit settings button > filter > select all
find "GMAIL" and "Gmail Storage"
For each one, click and do the "clear data" and "clear cache"
let me know if that helps

I figured out why this is happening. I recently went back to the native email app (because Yahoo! Mail for Android is brown poop, and MailDroid's ads can get annoying -- plus it's only push email...I don't like seeing I have 4 new emails, for example, and each time I tap on each item, it downloads just that email through the internet. I want my emails to be downloaded all at once, ready to be viewed. I digress...)
Anyway, the native email app shows you have X (false) new emails when you delete X number of emails because it downloads a number of (older) emails after it syncs, after you had deleted some new ones. In other words, you delete 3 newer emails, it downloads 3 older emails. Scroll down and you will see those 3 at the very bottom as "unread" even though they're old. Annoying.
Is there a way to fix this, perhaps tell the email app to not download emails older than 3 days, for example?
Here's a work around though. This is what I did. I use Yahoo! Mail* and I have thousands and thousands of emails in my Inbox. This might work for your corporate emails too.
1. Create a new folder on Yahoo! (or your corporate email client) called Inbox2 (or whatever).
2. Move all of the messages from the Inbox to that new folder.
3. Sync (Refresh) the email app on your device.
4. Your device will begin "move" the current emails away and will eventually show zero emails.
You'll be starting fresh. Each time you get a new email and you delete the email from your device, the app will have nothing to download and it won't show false notifications. If you decide to keep an email, it'll stay. When you get a new email that you decide to delete, still, the app won't have any older emails to download -and- it won't show any false notifications. It's a workaround. Hope this helps.
*I'd like to add. I've enabled POP3 on my Yahoo! Account and I'm using the native email app as pop 3. I have all of my emails downloaded as they come in. So when I'm in an elevator or in a poor 3G area, I have all of my emails (in its entirety) downloaded ready to be view without fetching for the rest of the messages.
I am using the email client for Exchange and POP3 and I don't have this problem, so maybe it is specific to something the server is doing. Gmail app works fine too for my Gmail account.

I tried what you suggested but unfortunately it doesn't work.
I think the problem of the false notifications occurs, cause the email client synchronises each folder (inbox, spam, trash etc.) separately. So when we get a new mail which goes to our inbox, we get a notification and then we go to our inbox and we find it there. When we delete an email, we move it from inbox to the trash folder. So the client synchronises the trash forder and sents a notification that we have a new mail. Then we go to our inbox but we see no mail, cause it's in the trash folder. The same occurs with spam. When we receive a spam mail, it is directly sent to the spam folder. So we get the notification of a new mail, but when we go to our inbox we find nothing.
That's the only way i can explain the false email notifications and i can't find a way to solve this annoying problem. If anyone can help would be much appreciated.
Happens to me too. Must be a bug. It only happens with IMAP and not Exchange mail. If you delete emails it will download older ones and do the notification.
I'm sorry I'm a noob, but I've searched and read a lot and I don't seem to see anyone with this exact issue....
I have a few email accounts. Before I flashed to gingervolt, I had messages from both accounts accessible in the same list and notifications worked for both. Now, I must choose which account I would like to access at a time.
I really can't find any settings to adjust this on the phone. Does anyone have a clue what may be wrong or is this just the way Gingervolt behaves?
Thanks.

If I'm the same as you you mean 2 accounts in Gmail. You will get notifications for both but you have to view each account seperately. I've never seen it any other way.
Sorry, I know I wasn't very clear. I've got a gmail account and then another non-gmail account that I get via POP/SMTP. It seems I only get notified for the account marked as primary and I have no way to change the frequency with which it pulls from the POP server... I believe it's set to around 30 mins, but I can't find a way to change that at all.
Does anyone know how to (using GingerVolt):
1. Change the polling frequency of a POP account?
2. Set the notification to work for both gmail and another account, regardless of which is primary?
Thanks!
Ok... So, I think K-9 mail is going to give me more frequent polling. Still testing....

Glad you're getting it figured out
I thought the stock email client did this... Not the gmail client but the AOSP email client which allows 1 centralized box. You can also specify how often it goes and checks for new mail.

Which is exactly why I posted... I thought those capabilities would be in the mail client after flashing to Gingervolt.
K-9 still seems to be working well enough for me.
Ok... I have figured out the proper imap settings so the sync time is no longer an issue like it was with POP, but I am sticking with K-9. It is really well done. The ability to set the notification quiet time and a unified inbox are worth it alone.
Good afternoon, Everyone - I hope everyone is having a great Saturday so far.
I, on the other hand, am incredibly frustrated and tired of trying to figure this out on my own... Also, I am in the middle of the woods today, and on a mobile device, so I am not as careful as I always am, so if by chance this has already been asked in a different thread, I am very sorry and I apologize...
I have the Note 3 with all latest updates. Not rooted. I also have the Galaxy Gear watch, again all the latest updates. I bought this watch primarily for two uses - to get notifications of my incoming text messages using the stock Samsung messaging app. Check - works great. The other reason, was so that I could get AND read my email messages using the stock Samsung email application. Check - works gr.... uh... not exactly. And HERE is my frustration...
Currently, in my STOCK Samsung Email app, I have the following accounts set up:
3 Gmail Accounts
1 Yahoo Account
1 Exchange work email account
Every time an email comes in on ANY of these accounts, I get an immediate notification on my watch. I can swipe, and read the entire email message. This is ALL I wanted. HOWEVER, even though in the very same stock email app, in the very same combined in-box, if I get a message specifically to my work Exchange email account, the watch ONLY displays that I have a message and to open it on the phone. It will not show ANYTHING in the email. But... the other accounts do with no problem! Why just this account, in the very same email app, with the same appearance and layout as the others??? I need this account more than anything - the others are just for fun and personal family, etc.
I did manage a temporary workaround however, but I am HOPING that you amazing folks here at XDA can give me an idea towards a solution. If I set up a MANUAL account to my work server using IMAP, our work server will allow me to only CHECK the mail, but not send. So I have no choice but to keep the existing Exchange account set up in my Samsung Mail App. However, I set up a SECOND entry in the same mail app, with my email address checking the email from my work server using IMAP and TLS. I just can't send.
Once I did that, I now receive TWO of every email from work. One in my normal inbox without a notification (turned off to avoid all the extra alerts on the phone), and the OTHER entry (IMAP) that I have labeled "Galaxy Gear Work Notifier". Now, the email WILL DISPLAY on my Watch, and I can read the whole email. But, if I pick up my phone to reply to the message, I have to switch inboxes on the mail app to the "real" Exchange one, and reply to the email.
There just has to be an easier way than this!!! I also own the Sony SmartWatch 2, but I personally don't like it as much as the Gear - but the Sony will read everything with all of the second party email notifiers out there.
Regardless that this is an Exchange account, it is coming into the very SAME STOCK SAMSUNG email application - so why do all the other email accounts display their email in full on the watch, but the one Exchange mail that comes in only says "open on phone" - what am I missing? This is driving me crazy, the fact that I can't figure this out....
I would appreciate any and all ideas VERY much - more than you know. Thank you in advance for helping and for the ideas. I appreciate it!

HELLO AGAIN guys - I have an update...
I was so pissed by all of this - mainly because I was SURE there was something that I was doing wrong, and that I couldn't figure it out.... SOOO - I called Samsung, and went to tier 3 support and spoke to an engineer (called the main support line, got to the Mobile device department, then Galaxy Gear), and they said that they were aware that the notifications with Microsoft Exchange accounts, even those set up within their stock app, were temporarily broken and would refer the user to open the mail on their phone.... but an update is being released at any time now again to the Gear which fixes this issue. By taking the Exchange authentication/security out of the loop, this is why my manually set IMAP version of the same email was working. He assured me that they received a large number of calls on this specific issue, mainly because of all the business users who rely on Exchange as their email method, using the stock mail app. So he promised this was being addressed asap. At least, I now KNOW that this was not just me, and that I was not nuts. If it's "supposed" to be broken right now, and they are addressing it, then I'm fine with that and can use my IMAP workaround for the time being...
Thanks very much everyone - have a great rest of the weekend!!!
Mike
