I have an AT&T Tilt and only used WIFI since i don't live in the U.S. I previously owned the Cingular 8125 and never had a problem surfing the web on it. Now that i have the TiLT i have serious issues surfing the web. The text is extremly small.
I changed the view to the largest but still no luck. Does anyone know if there's a specific setting i should be initiating? OR is there a cab out there to change the text size in internet explorer? The only websites that are showing normally is GOOGLE and EBAY. Anyone Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Scroll down to Windows Mobile 5/6 PPC, Professional, Classic 8.65 and download. Opera has a very handy zoom feature. Internet Explorer Mobile 6 does as well, but I think that only comes in Windows 6.5 ROMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507281
This is the ROM I'm running now, and I'm quite happy with it. Both IE and Opera come installed in the rom, both can zoom, both are fairly quick and stable, and features are easy to get to. Plus you can thumb-scroll the page. Can't do that with IE that came stock on the Kaiser series. If you decide to go with the ROM, read up carefully. It's not hard, just follow the instructions.
Most importantly, read this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Best advice I can give ya is the ROM I linked to., after reading Mskips tutorial thoroughly. Next best advice is to at least go with Opera. I don't even have PIE so I couldn't even play with it and see if I could figure something out for you.
Viewing Internet Pages
thankyou that worked perfectly! Now i can view internet pages clearly. I think Opera is the best browser for my Tilt!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have Opera on my Kaiser. 26 days to go for free.
But I have problems being motivated to buy the version.
Anybody an opinion?
Have no problems with IE till now. But maybe I am missing some important features.
Huib
Have you tried "Opera Mini" ?
If not, try it, you will never go back to IE
It is super fast, very compact, and works, also with that neat zoom/unzoom!.
Again, the browsing and rendering speed of Opera Mini is superb.
Drag and scroll.
Highlight and copy text
Save images
Successfully renders web pages more frequently than does the IE - IMHO

Try scrolling down a long page with PIE and you will know why Opera Mini is better. PIE almost grinds to a halt after the first screen or two has scrolled up.
EDIT: Update to above entry. PIE now has a fix for scrolling issue - downloadable here: IE Slow Scroll Fix for Kaiser_Tilt.cab

Gotcha!
Tested them both with a longer page and the difference is clear.
Thanks for your input.

Hi!
can Opera-mini and other apps be run from the memory card satisfactorily?
i.e are they slower?
I wonder if my other applications such as Resco Explorer 2007 and Code Wallter can be run from the card too?
Ofiaich
Don't take what I say as gospel but when I had Opera installed on the SD card it didn't function completely correct - like didn't follow email links correctly along with a couple of other glitches etc.
Likewise I have always been a bit hesitant to install things that operate so cloely with the OS, like Resco Explorer, to the card. They have always seemd to work much better on the main memory. Just my opinion.
Thus I have Opera mini and Resco Explorer installed on the main memory while just about everything else I have on the SD card.
jcrompton!
Thanks very much! Sounds good to me, and I have space in the main memory!
I will get on and download Opera mini !

Opera Can Handle Regular Youtube!
Please Dont quote me on this, but if i am correct, Opera (paid version, not mini) can render many types of complicated flash websites including Youtube(Yes the regular one not youtube mobile). I say this because i tested it for myself, a while ago on my mda vario or vario 2 (sorry cant remember). What seemed to be a slight problem though was, it ran out of memory frequently (ram) and as such the program would not start if other applications were running in the background.
Opera users on WM6, your reviews and thoughts on this are much appreciated!

OK - so I just figured out how to get Opera Mini work via the Java app under programs -- have you been able to get email links and other http links to automatically be opened by Opera Mini - I made some registry changes to get Opera Mobile to be the default browser, can you get Opera Mini to do that ? (wasn't sure since it is buried as a Java program)

Well you asked for it. I am going to have to quote you. Youtube does not work on my 8925 in Opera, neither the moble specific version (says media file type not supported) nor the full youtube site. Ugh.
I agree that you wouldn't really want to use Opera Mini on the Kaiser....Opera Mobile though is the bomb! I just wish it was free like the Mini version is, but it's good enough to pay for anyway. PIE just is not very good at rendering most webpages.
opera is very good browser but the built in pie some times show websites better than opera example http:\\www.xda-developers.com

I don't agree , it's superbly fast, it's free and it has good viewing settings. For straightforward surfing it's fine. I say give it a try you may be surprised.

I just hit YouTube with Opera on mine and any 'watch now' links open the video for streaming in WMP. Is that normal?
There is something about me that doesn't like using Internet Explorer. On my phone (Sony Ericsson K850i) I use the Opera Mini 4 Beta browser and love the way that it renders sites and you can zoom in and out etc...
I installed Opera Mobile on my HTC hoping that it would be exactly the same as mini but I was very disappointed Not only does it not have the text for the soft keys but it doesn't accept touch screen inputs for pressing links and text boxes. Also you don't have the zoom in/out function so you have to see a fully rendered screen or and "everything on one column" rendering that cripples the content.
Is there a decent browser for Windows Mobile? What I am looking for is something that works exactly like Opera Mini but with more compatibility with flash etc...
Any ideas?
At the least I would like to be able to install Opera mini but it comes as a .jad file (Java Midlet?). Is there any way of installing these as my Kaiser doesn't know what to do with the file atm.
Thanks for any help
Oliver
There must be someone out there who uses a browser that they're happy with?
Is there a version of Opera that works with the touch screen?
Thanks
You don't have Java on your phone? Opera mini is free and it is a Java Midlet so you could try and see how you like it without spending any money. There is another free browser that I have called Minimo.
LINK to direct CAB download-- http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
It isint the perfect browser either but it does alot of what Opera does and lets you set it with preferences too. Give it a shot and see what you think. Don't like it just remove. I will look on my phone to see if I can extract the Java .exe for you.
I use netfront 3.3 its got better functions than PIE and its back and forward functions using your D-pad is very usefull. as for opera if you want it to scroll like opera mini just enable touch and grab on opera v8.65. it will select links as opera mini does it just wont zoom in like opera mini
Ceck out the articles at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Web Browsing, browsers
picsel browseris my fav. look around enough and you'll find it
Thanks for the replies!
I'll definitely have a look round for the browsers you mentioned.
I would much appreciate it if you could provide a Java app to enable Java on my phone too
BTW, I'm using Schap's latest ROM if that helps.
Im a bit confused here about the op. Am I the only person that has a copy of Opera Mobile that does everything that the op said it doesn,t do? Which version of Opera mobile did you try? I use O.M on my kaiser and everything you said it doesnt do, mine does.. Ive got touchscreen interactivity aswell as touch scrolling, i can zoom in and out, 3 can resize the screen format to desk top, just fit and one column. Im runing Opera mobile 8.65 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC. By anychance did you accidentily download the smartphone version?
As above - op must have downloaded opera instead of opera-mini...
I'm posting using o-m and must say it's one of the best if not best browser for the wm platform
WOW!
Just installed Picsel and I love it.
The GUI is a bit dodgy but that's cos it's designed for the clie but I love everything else.
Thanks
(Bit of an effort to find a download though)
Ah, I downloaded the Smartphone version. That's prob why I don't have the touch screen thingy.
BTW Subliminal, there is a difference between Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. Opera Mini is what I have on my Sony Ericsson k850i and I would have thought that Opera Mobile worked similarly. It does all the same things but not as smoothly as Opera Mini.
Opera Mini is for Java based phone apps. Opera Mobile is for WM platform.
Opera Mobile has more functions (I think?)
but one main difference is that Opera Mini is free whereas opera mobile isn't.
A direct shortcut can be created to launch opera mini without the need to load the java midlet first. A quick hex edit can skip the connection permissions and another quick tinker can allow direct links from emails to open in opera mini. Sounds more work than it is.
Ive just been checking out the Netfront v3.4 technical preview
https://www.access.co.jp/english/nfppc/agree_34.html
its alot better than v3.3 and has some very nice features. its got a similar zoom feature to opera mini4 its a scroll and zoom. plus the visual bookmark is nice also. I cant wait for it to go to retail I will be getting it. opera9 will be ready soon also but ive not seen a preview of it yet. from what ive read though its also going to be alot better than v8.65 and incorperate feature of mini opera4 like the page zooming
I've just downloaded opera mini 4 and have installed it onto my phone.
I have one querey.......
when I was instaling it and when I first used it, it say
this program is connecting to .......port 1080...... requires airtime..... you maybe chaged.....
does this mean my phone isn't using the wifi connection when im running opera mini 4?

It must be something to do with your settings, Ive just tried it with usb and wifi and both connect fine. Infact it connects quicker with usb than it did with v3.3.

Mmmm... don't reach the solution ;-( , even after modifying the browser settings. Always the same message...
"Cannot load page. Check that you are properly connected to the network. Type : TCP connect"
dolbe, can you give me your settings for this great browser ?
MS DeepFish is the best browser I've seen yet. It's in Beta for now though and has limitations. It's similar to Iphone's Safari - which is great.
Opera Mobile 9 will support zooming, just like Opera Mini. I asked Opera for a release date, but they won't say anything. It's supposed to be released "soon".
O.K. Guys and Gals: Long time reader, very infrequent poster. Anyway, Tilt with latest AT&T stock ROM. Seems incapable of rendering one web page that I cannot live without:
http//adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov
I've gotten some good suggestions around the web, but so far no joy. My VZW 6700 CAN render this page very clearly using PIE.
Tried:
IE 6.1 cab
Opera 9.5
Cingular disable proxy
Open to any suggestions as I hit the road Monday and want to like this handset. This issue is a definite deal killer as I need to be able to check weather wherever I happen to be.
Couple of screen grabs for your viewing pleasure. As you can see if you look at relative file sizes, there is a LOT less data in the Tilt grab.

Bob Duckworth

Guess I should try Mini then. Mini uses a proxy server to render before shipping to the handset??
Dumb question, but which version does one choose for the 8925? Its not listed.
Thanks,

Netfront 3.5 beta blows them all out to Pluto
Checkout my screenshots below. Netfront 3.5 rendered the site within 3 seconds or so. I'll do a video of that loading as well in a few minutes.
I'm absolutely floored by Netfront 3.5s capabilities for a month or so since I've been using it. Only gripe.. its a crazy resource hog (which is ok on my Tilt as its got ample RAM) and causes most other resource intensive apps/functions to not run smoothly.
But.. no biggie. Its flick browsing is just sooooper butter smooth. And best of all it DOES NOT pre-cache/render any site on some remote server before displaying on your device..
I absolutely love it... love it love it love it..
actual video of your specified site loading on NF 3.5 beta
download the .rar (750k) or the .zip (5mb) and the video is in .avi format (19mb). Check it out.

Hi All,
Has anyone else noticed that the Kaiser / IE seems to redirect you to a "pda friendly" version of a website.. I found this alot with News Sites and its nothing like the site you get from a standard PC/Desktop. I dont know how it knows I'm searching from my Kaiser and dont like the "pda friendly" pages, is there anyway to override this "feature" - After all I like to think I am getting to the actual website I want and not what "they" want...
It isn't the Kaiser that takes you to the PDA site. When you access the webserver that hosts the site it checks what browser you are requesting the page from.

You can avoid this and see the 'real' web by downloading and installing Opera. There is a setting in opera 9.5b's options to see the full web page rather than the mobile version.
Thanks there - I guess I should have known it was the Sites server etc and not the Kaiser.... So IE can't do it then, not had any experience with Opera so will give it a go (assuming I can find it) also I hear there is a Firefox version around called Minimo but again not used it before and dont know if it can do what Opera can....
Many thanks, will let you know how I get on.
Minimo was abandoned somewhere in 2006 at v0.2, was pretty unusable compared to today's browsers like Opera.
Hi,
Thanks for all the advice, yes I can see the pro's of Opera. Very sleek and lets me see the "proper" web page as opposed to the "pda friendly". Shame about Minimo tho as I like Firefox.... Here's to happy web surfing.

PIE isn't that great... but in these cases the owners of those particular sites have set it up to give a special version of their sites.
Its possible to get to the real version by messing with the user agent... but Opera does it soooooooo much better there isn't really any point. Opera mini 4 is free and works on any java enabled mobile phone (including the kaiser)
Opera Mobile 9.5 is available as a free beta version for windows mobile devices. Eventually they will release a commercial version which they will charge for and this is the one you really want on your kaiser (and should be worth the money!)
Mmkay all you xda wizards, I need a bit of guidance here...
I have not yet switched over my browser on my Tilt, and I was wondering two things:
a.) I am working with IE which sucks, of course. I am able to open my browser successfully about three or four times, but after that it shows my homepage addy in the bar, but does not load. I have the Kaiser Tweak on my phone, but I was wondering if there is a setting that will prevent me from having to soft reset my phone when this happens,
b.) I had previously posted a question about switching browsers (h/t to those who made suggestions). I tried one, whose name I cannot recall, and my beef was that it was a pain to have to constantly zoom in on the part of the page I wanted to view. I was told Opera would be a good browser for me-I am really interested in being able to open multiple tabs-and could someone tell me if switching to the Opera browser would do anything to help this data timeout.
Thanks for the help all...I love this site because I am pretty clueless on this type of thing.
get skyfire
Use anything but Pocket IE. I have the following free good browsers installed on my device: Iris Browser, Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, Bolt Browser, and Skyfire. My most used browsers are Skyfire and Opera Mobile, but I use different browsers for different things. Try each one to see which ones you like best.
