I'm about to buy a x1a. I don't know whether I can flash a x1i rom and radio rom to a x1a. Because they use different radio frequency (850mhz hsdpa instead of 900mhz). Can I use x1i's hard spl on an x1a? Any comment is appreciated
Yes you can use the hard spl, hard spl is for all xperias not only x1i or x1a
I would like to know also. I know HardSPL works and I've used it successfully to run some custom ROM's with winmo 6.5.
If you use a UK rom on a X1a will it negatively affect reception due to the frequency differences between UK and US?

I don't think so, as this part is controlled by the radio.

Yes. The Radios and ROMs work on both the X1a and X1i.
The only difference is that you'll find out that the video camera suddenly doesn't suck when you use a X1i rom, being able to record at 30fps, unlike with the X1a rom.
fortunately, you can flash non-US roms with or without the radio (almost all custom roms don't include radio part of the rom). one drawback is if you flash non-US radio rom, it may affect the UMTS. GSM will definitely always work since it is a Quad Band - however, UMTS may not work because it is region/country specific (and in the US, TelCo specific).
on the safe side, get a X1a, always flash with US specific stock ROM, then flash custom ROM that has no radio (as said, most custom roms don't have it anyways)
check this link as reference - at the way bottom is the compatibility matrix
I know this thread is old, but I have an x1a with radio 1.14.25.55, as i just flashed to Gtrab's SEX1 R5.07 pure (love his work).
So now my phone says it's an X1i in device information (no big deal), I flashed last night all went good, put the phone on the charger went to bed woke up grabbed my phone and after 1 1/2 hours my phone went from 100% to 20%.
Could the radio be the issue?

Currently, my radio version is 1.54.07.00.
I tried to flash the other radio rom but the radio version didn't change.
Is there a way to change to 1.54.00 or 1.54.01??
Just curious.

Luckily, No
I've used the KaiserCustomRUU (dload from Kaiser thread) and a Hermes Radio ROM (Hermes wiki) and the ones i've tried work fine (the latter ones).
currently using 1.54.30.10 and works a treat (t-mobile uk) - most stable rom i've used on my treo (connectivity/hsdpa).
may sound like a strange way to flash the radio but works for me... (the hermes shares a lot in common with the treo processor/radio wise)

Thanks for the info, i just put in 1.54.30.10 and so far it works, cant tell et if it's an better then the original radio. What do you think? An better better? reception?
is one of the better ones i've tested.
thing is there are so many outside variables (location/time of day/everthing really) that it takes a couple of weeks to fully test the one that suits your area/needs (push mail/hsdpa which I both use heavilly)
have to charge my treo every evening with most of the roms but found the connectivity on this to be the best i've come across - maybe diff in the states.
if only I could go back to GPRS and no push email I could have a battery that lasts 3 days - unfortunately that ain't going to happen..
plus i'm a firm believer of higher version numbers - windows vista excluded
oh yeah,
to answer your question - find reception and data better...
I agree the new Radio 1.54.30.10 is not just better but NOTICABLY BETTER. I have been using the old radios versions at my house and I struggle with no signal to 2 bars to no signal again. Now I get 2 solid bars and sometimes 3 bars. The last phone that I had with great signal like that was the Razr V3.
the new Radio 1.54.30.10
Where can i download the new Radio 1.54.30.10 ?
Thanks...
I found it from Hermes - is it the same?

ok its a AT&T TILT
ROM Version: 1.57.502.2
ROM DATE: 08/25/07
Radio Version: 1.27.12.11
Protocol Version: 22.45.88.07H
Same here
I'm now with the updated AT&T ROM, but wit hthe same issues.
This also happened with the previous ROM.
At home I'm connected to my PC via USB. For some reason, in this location I have virtually no reception (ie I have 1 or 0 bars).
And many times, if I don't go in/out of Flight Mode after I leave home, I find myself without reception even for a couple of hours (ie the Tilt doesn't "recover" on its own).
I HardSPL'd my Tilt and tried installing the French radio in order to improve reception (other users in my location said it worked well for them), but found it was incompatible, and after a very stressful day (I was certain I'd bricked my Tilt) - was able to enter bootloader mode and restore the original radio.
At the moment I don't want to flash a Kaiser radio, and I want to wait until AT&T release their own WM6.1 ROM (I don't want to use a cooked one).
Further (I wrote about this in another post) - my GPS loses signal quite often, even under clear skies. I understand that this is another aspect of the radio drivers.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you.
I'd rather think it's a hardware problem. RMA...
Difficult....
I live abroad, and so it'll cost a small fortune in shipping charges, etc.
Not to mention import taxes, etc, if the IMEI is changed (eg if the device is replaced).
I live in a very poor reception area just outside of Boston. Previous to purchasing my device I would only have service about 40% of the time when I was at home.
When i purchased the Kaiser reception didn't get much better so I decided to search google and it led me to this forum. After reading many threads and asking some questions I feel that that the best radio that I've used so far is NIKI - 1.58.16.27. Now I have reception 95% of the time and GPS picks up about 7-10 satelites from my basement, crazy i know.
I'm not sure how much you been reading OP but I recommend you either learn how to flash roms and radios, or you can bring your phone to AT&T and have them look at it. However that means you have to give up your tilt while its being repaired, which sucks.
is this NIKI radio compatible with the standard AT&T ROM?
I have 1.62.502.0 and radio 1.27.14.09.
Or is it compatible only with WM6.1?
Thank you.

ok, you say it improves with niki radio!?
so I have never done this before, is it hard!? were can I find a GOOD tutorial or guide or troubleshooter in case i get STUCK??
Other thing, here were I live, i think ATT from the quad band, use 850 almost all the time, anything to say about that? it doenst matter?, maybe its a stupid Q...
But the Niki radio requires WM6.1, doesn't it?
redbandana,
Did you install the Niki radio on a WM6 Tilt?
And what ROM do you have? (ie the original AT&T ROM, the updated AT&T ROM or a cooked one?)
Hi guys, Just been playing with my HTC touch diamond for few days, and while generally plesaed with the device, the UMTS reception is horrible, if i switch off UMTS then GPRS is at nearly full bars.
I was wondering whether it is a good idea to flash it with a cooked rom, i understand i will need Hard spl installed, how safe is this? also could i ever flash it back to official HTC rom in case of warranty issues?
Thanks

I have just finished trying five after it was suggested and it was a terrible experience for me.. how about you? what radio is best.
I've tried ALL radios here around, and for me the best is .07, GSM signal is perfect, GPS fix very quick, battery life almost the same compared to .05, but I don't use 3G so I can't say for that.
bye,
davide
I use the 1.03.25.18
and it's fast like Hell, fast GPS fix (10 sec.), signal the best of all.(for me it is)

6 months!? You've had the diamond since april? and i thought I was early..
Hi,
Can i just ask, can people please state what country they are in when recommending radio roms as some of the available radios are designed for europe.
My second question is, can i flash a new radio without damaging my current rom configuration? (i.e. if i install a new radio will i need to reinstall all of my apps to my rom?)
thanks for your help
No, you are quite safe to flash a radio rom - it won't harm your installed items.
However, you do need Hard-SPL and that will hard reset your device

i am uk voda user i use radio .07 and have found it far better than 05. gps fix is quicker but more importantly the wifi connection is more stable for me. i am using swiftbl rom 6.2 hope this helps
Started with .03, tried .07 and .08, currently use .05, but I'll try .07 again as it 'felt' like it had the best combination of reception, GPS lock and battery life for me.
.05 here, only one ive flashed myself (default came with .03) and its so much better that i haven't wanted to change or try any others

I have read the forum.. extensively..
For me .05 was not the best (with Duttys v2 rom) .. so that's the question.. what do you use.. whats best for you and your current setup.
one thing i am confused with is the fact that there are alot more radios than in the pole, see below:
Radio v1.00.25.03
Radio v1.00.25.05 (Quad Band,Save Power and have better Network Connection!) "Highly Recommended"
Radio v1.00.25.06 (Quad Band)
Radio v1.00.25.07 (Provided by duttythroy )
Radio v1.02.25.11 (Provided from Bepe )
Radio v1.03.25.18 (Provided from Bepe )
If your going to pole this thread, include all radios!!
Another thing i would like to bring your attention to, in your pole there is this radio: 1.00.25.08 Where is this available? i cannot find it anywhere!
Also maybe someone can explain this to me, i was under the impression that as new radios were developed/released they would be improvements based on the most current radio.
Using this thought process surely that would mean that Radio v1.03.25.18 would be the most up-to-date radio? (or does it not work like that?)
bennec83 dutty has a 08 radio on his download page..
the reason for not listing those others was because I expected 07 and 05 to be the only real contenders (and the others are ones I have tried)..
This seems to be born out by the current results..
Also I left the 'other' selection for the remainder

I have an company contract with O2, so I get the new Phones 3 to 4 months befor the out for all. ( If I ask nicely )

I'm on 2nd day of .08 (from dutty) radio and this one perform well such as .07 but I suppose something has improved .07 + .01 = .08
gps fix is really quick (at least from warm start) and the signal strength is really good (in open space always 7/8 sat)
just for note I use tomtom v7 and rom + radio in my signature

Currently using the 05.. But I agree with you Ghostrider. The 1.03.25.18 is fast as a lightning and battery time is jus wonderful, but I experiencing the hang problem, I think it might be connected to the Hard-SPL im using, it's 1.3(x)
.18 gave problems here too... now I'm running .08 (from dutty) and ALL is working very well, for what I've understood .08 ver comes from diamond 3G (us ver)
Hi guys, I really did search first, I promise. I have been having connectivity issues (not making calls, lost data connections, etc...) since I updated to the ATT Official Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM (3.57.502.2 WWE) with radio version 1.65.21.18. I am trying to determine if I need to upgrade my radio version. I found the thread with all the radio versions for my phone but don't know anything about them. I did get that I should try different ones until I find one that works for me. So do I need to install the HardSPL on my phone (or did the Official ATT rom upgrade do that already)? From there do I run that RUU.exe file on the desktop (or what)? It would be great if someone could put this in super simple terms for me.
Thanks in advance,

one word for your info, "WIKI"
I did look over the wiki for some time, here is my hang up. Jockyw2001 posted in an SPL thread that "SPL3.56 is part of the latest AT&T Rom which is dated June 6. 2008" So since I did the official ATT upgrade and my ROM date is 07/17/08, does that mean that I already have SPL 3.56 on my device? I can not find a post about how to determine what SPL version (if any) is installed on my device. If SPL is already installed, is there any danger in installing an older version of SPL or reinstalling one?
Thanks again
-Max

So you are saying that the stock rom and stock radio are not working correctly, no cooked roms or other carrier radios?
Did the problems start right after you updated?

Yup, stock radio and rom as suggested by ATT, whom their customer service now claims they do not support WM6.1. I've never used a cooked rom and really only come here for device information and applications. I did have problems before I upgraded the rom but they have much worse since. The thread you posted is similar but they mostly talk about an "H" connection. I am in the DC metro area (USA) and get 3G all the time now, I wonder if that is part of the problem, I never get an EDGE network signal anymore.
Well... I just found THIS buried over on the ATT support forums
Clp1970 01-21-2009 10:33:16 AM
I guess we just got 3G network here. I haven't been able to make/receive calls for 5 days now. Tech support supposedly looking into issue. My phone switches bewteen 3G and EDGE constantly. Anyone else having this issue? What was the resolution? I don't want a refurbished Tilt if they can't come to a resolution (why would I want the same darn phone if it doesn't work well with 3G as advertised?) I have already drove 20 minutes to the nearest store for a new SIM card..which did no good. There isn't anyway of turning off 3G network unless I install software I have seen mentioned on this forum and well, I don't know about that...I paid for this phone to do what it said, and it isn't.

Common problem that can be either due to problems with the rollout or that the local towers cannot handle 3G as effectively or at a greater distance as the same tower could for Edge. These are some related threads and posts but there are a lot more. As noted in these posts if there is a local AT&T store run by AT&T then you might pop in and confirm some of the problems with them.

The tendency is to blame the phone but the reality is often different and that includes from customer support who offered to swap my phone several times but this obviously would not work because it affected many other users as well differing phone manufacturers and models.

Timing of it is close enough to make me wonder, but I had been using HSDPA.. But I have been getting the same problems you are talking about when the phone is set to 3g as well. The other thing that is starting to make me think its something ATT did to their network is that the OP from the thread that I linked on here lives 20 mins west of my location, and I am 15-20 mins north of DC... I may go to one of the local att stores and see what they have to say (tho that means for me that I get to flash my phone back to the stock rom )
