X1a/X1i ROM and Radio Support - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

I'm wondering if all ROMs and radios are compatible with both the X1a and X1i or just one of the two. Thanks in advance!

Yes. All ROMs and Radios are compatible with X1a and X1i.

Thanks! And also, all radios are compatible with all carriers, correct?

Yeah thats right.
Although, I would note that in my experience, the Radio that came with my X1i last year (probably the oldest one and original Stock Radio for the device), did not keep signal with the UK Hutchison 3G Network (2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA)... But Radios from 1.10 to 1.14 are fine. ... Thats just an observation I made.

So any news on 1700-2100 3G support for T-Mobile US? Are there any radios available that are compatible with this network?

no update? im still waiting to see if i can speed up my all powerful X1 to my scrawny g1's speed

Radios are from I gather are merely firmware updates for the communication radios (GSM, 3G, GPS, Wifi, BT) in your device. You can't change from a X1i to a X1a with a flash, you'd have to change the hardware.

3g for att

Is there a version of the diamond that will get 3g with att us ?(850mhz band) I have seen the update that gives the 850 band but I was told it isnt for the 3g. I really want a diamond but not having 3g is gonna be a real deal breaker for me.
I've got 850MHz on 3G here with the 1.00.25.05 radio ROM which came on my device (works on Telstra NextG here in Australia which is 850MHz HSDPA).
really? I just read where the fcc just passed the us version of the diamond for the 850 band on hsdpa. Anyone else can confirm they are getting 3g with there diamond in the us?

No I did not, I have the UK version. The Australian version isn't available for another few weeks.
no it is out now but only in certain telstra stores...
so how do you know you are operating on the 3g 850Mhz band???
what radio and firmware are you using?
i want my next g speeds!
I know I'm on the 850MHz band as that's what Telstra NextG uses (with HSDPA). As I said above, radio version is 1.00.25.05 and ROM is WWE 1.93.405.1. All this info is in my signature as well.
3G on ATT
I just got my Diamond Touch today and it came with the
RADIO: 1.00.25.05
ROM: 1.93.456.2 WWE Dated (7/10/08)
O/S: CE 5.2.19965 (Build 19965.1.2.3)
I'm only getting (E)dge on AT&T
No (G) or (H)
My upgraded TILT/TYN II connects to G3 and H at my location here in Los Angeles.
I hope someone figures out a way to get at least a G3 and 850Mhz radio.
Does it just need to be unlocked ??

Hi#
In another thread somone posted that Telstra uses 850mhz for its 3g network and 2100mhz for its joint 3g venture with 3. I'd be happy though if they used 850/900mhz for 3g in the uk though
I am totally confused here, Everything that I have read says that there is no way that the diamond's that are currently out there has the 850 band hsdpa. No software update is suppose to give it the hsdpa band because it lacks the HARDWARE. I know that the gprs band of 850 is able, is it possible that you are connecting to some other band of 3g in your area? I really wanna buy a diamond but I dont wanna be stuck with this phone and not be able to use 3g in my area (us) PLEASE SOMEONE ELSE SHED SOME LIGHT HERE. There are people in this thread that say it dont work and then there are people that are saying it does, thanks for any help
Not true. It's not a hardware issue, it's radio issue.
After you get the diamond and flash that radio there is a setting to change the band. I don't remember it though T.T
can someone confirm that i can use the diamond on us 3g band (850) by just a new radio and setting?
She's probably getting the 2100mhz HSDPA band in AUS unless she's edited the radio, the phone is only capable of 900/2100mhz HSDPA right now. Here's the killer... The Touch Pro just passed FCC... And no HSDPA/UMTS/WCDMA whatsoever. No 3G.

Flash x1i rom onto x1a

I have recently ordered an x1a and was doing some reading preparing on what rom I will flash, then it dawned on me that my favorite rom; EnergyRom is actually made for a x1i...
I was trying to find out if it will be ok to flash the roms made for a x1i on a x1a.
And would the 850Mhz and 1900MHz 3g bands both still work.
And would that allow it to record video at [email protected]?
Since i heard that x1a's are limited to [email protected], or [email protected]
anyone?... I can't belive this question has never come up.
Yes the rom will work fine on it.

Yes you will keep 850MHz and 1900MHz
No it does not allow 30fps recording
Both are hardware designed so rom can't change them
Yes. As Mopral said. Alas, most killer ROMs here and elsewhere are for X1i. But that hasn't stopped us X1a owners to use or enjoy them.
thanks all, i knew it would work, but i was hoping to make sure that my umts bands were using both 850 and 1900.
I have started another thread asking for a way to test these bands individually to make sure the 850mhz works, and that te x1i rom hasn't disabled it.
aren't the radio things cleared / defined by the radio rom u use?

Did SE give me the wrong rom?

I had an 1Xi it broke, sent it into SE here in the US. They could not fix it so they sent me a new phone today an X1A. The phone says X1A on the sticker behind the battery. But everywhere else on the phone it says X1i
Phone name is Xi1, Rom says Generic_UK
and i only get H connection on my 3g att sim.
What can i do ??
Does this even matter as i am planning on dowloading some of the custom roms here
Same here says x1i instea od x1a while I ahve x1a replaced
this is really really weird.
But the question does it matter what rom phone comes with if one is going to flash a new rom to it anways ?

Does not really matter as you can flash any ROM that you want to try. I suggest that you try reading the tutorial on how to flash ROM's before proceeding. Have fun!

Well, you will only find out which one works for you once you try the ROM's cooked in theis forum. I suggest that you try the one created by Agent_47. For me, and at the moment, it's one of the fastest and most stable ROM so far. Try this link and download version 2.9 FS-G. If that does not work, you can try others. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512050

Sorry but could not help you there. I did not back-up my ROM when i first flash my device. If, for some reason, you do not want the cooked ROM that you flash, there is always an available original ROM on this forum.
and H connection under 3G icon place is showing you have HSDPA connected, what is alot faster then 3G
So from what everyone is saying it does not matter LOL
especailly with me putting custom roms in the phone.
Just funny how SE cant get their crap together and give u wrong rom with a phone model.
But what i dont get is the X1i and Xia has different hardware right. So how do does the same rom wrong on both models, regarding getting 3g. As in the usa we have different band from the rest of the world. Would that not mean u would need to download a custom rom that supports x1A ?? i dont see any roms out there that says they are for x1a or x1i.
Whoa hold on there. It certainly does matter if you had an X1a and they gave you an X1i! For ROMs it does not matter. They are interchangeable between the two. But it does matter in terms of network coverage.
First, to explain the H, UMTS is 3G. HSDPA and HSUPA are upgrades for downlink and uplink speeds to UMTS. Is you have both HSDPA and HSUPA, it is then just said that you have HSPA in which case you will see 'H' instead of '3G'. HSPA is sometimes called 3.5G.
ATT uses 1900mhz for 3G in some places and 850mhz in others, though most of the time it is 1900mhz. The X1i supports 3G on 1900mhz but NOT on 850mhz. The X1a supports both. So with an X1i there are some places that may have 3G and you wont get it. It sounds like 3G is on 1900mhz in your area so you see no difference but if you want to get 3G everywhere ATT has is you need your 'a' back. I have ATT and an X1i and dont mind. I get 3G in hampton roads and northern VA, as well as in NY. I am satisfied. Hopefully they will roll it out here in bburg soon (I was told by the store rep when I signed up that it would come this year) and hopefully on 1900mhz. YMMV.
*edit*
Looks like I read it wrong. You had an 'i' and they gave you an 'a'? Not such a disadvantage there but there is another issue. The X1i is capable of 30fps VGA video recording while the 'a' can only do 15fps and QVGA (due to a lawsuit on Qualcomm in the US; their video compression technology infringed on Broadcomm's IP). So advantages and disadvantages to each.
So physically i have XiA
i guess at the repair center they screwed up and installed the generic_uk rom.
So its better to have H, then the 3g logo? I live in houston texas and when i had my old x1i it also said H.
So when i install a custom rom this weekend(firestom 2.9 looks great)
I will still have an H instead of the 3g logo?

Yes H is better than 3G. On most phones with stock/carrier branded ROMS, the H symboly is disabled so that even if you have HSPA you will still see a '3G' icon. This is done because customers may not know what 'H' means and therefore may complain that they are not getting 3G coverage. Most custom ROMs leave the 'H' logo enabled.
So I take it you are sticking with the X1a? It is a toss up for me. I used to have t-mobile which does not have 3G on 1900 or 850 so it did not matter which X1 I got. I therefore opted for the one with better video recording. Now I switched to ATT. I get 3G signal in all the 3G covered areas that I have visited. As long as 3G here in Blacksburg (where I spend most of the year) comes in the 1900 flavor Ill keep my 'i'.

Dumping an X1a rom. Is it the same process as a X1i?

Hi, new to the forum, just got my x1 yesterday and am pretty upset with a lot the ways winmo 6.1 allows me to interact with my phone.
The dumping process uses a stock UK rom. Now clearly I have a north american rom. Can someone please help me clear up any confusion in this process?
yes it is the same process
so use the x1i rom?
I won't lose 850MHz functionality?
No need to worry. I flashed my first ROM after staring at the fish for 20 minutes and I've never regretted it Rest assured, 850MHz will work.

I'm not so sure about that, if you flash a ROM with an X1i radio installed. I doubt the radio from X1i ROMs are optimized for use on networks with the 850 band. So, I would likely flash back to an X1a radio to be on the safe side. Case in point, many people with X1i's in the US get US 3G, just not on the 850 band. Thus it would be hard to tell if your 850 band is working or not when you flash an X1i ROM that includes the X1i radio. In essence you might have working 3G, but it may not be as strong or pervasive of a signal as you had with an X1a radio.
Anyone care to chime in on this?

You can always flash an X1i ROM, then flash an X1a radio and rilphone if there is indeed a difference.
Video calling is the main omission i have found with the X1i roms.

convert 3g from us to european

Hi,
I bought my HTC diamond in the US, but live in europe.
Obviously, I can't connect to the 3g network here.
Is there anything I could do? If I install European ROM will it work?
if so - which ROM should I install?
My current ROM - 1.93.422.4 WWE, 08/13/08
Thanks for your help,
Mike
It is not about the ROM but the hardware of the Diamond. There are different hardware revisions. Go to bootloader and check what you have.
It is something like DIAM100
Diam110, 64m, spl-1.93.0000
anything i can do?
thanks man!

Most european diamonds are diam100 i think, you need to check what bands you diamond supports then check the bands the network/s you wanna use, use for there 3G/HSDPA Services, see if any are compatible
how do i check which bands my diamond supports?
I just had a look on google for you mate and this is what i came up with
The US 3G unlocked Diamond supports AT&T's 850/1900MHz HSDPA network, but not T-Mobile's US 3G bands. It is dual band 3G, so there's also no support for Euro 3G. It's a quad band GSM world phone with EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz), and that means you can make a phone call anywhere in the world GSM service is available, and you'll have access to the slower GPRS and EDGE data networks across the world. Since it's unlocked, you can use it with any carrier's SIM.
So it looks like it duznt support Euro 3G Bands, Sorry
thats a shame..
thanks anyway
thats a shame..
thanks anyway
I cant get 3G/HSDPA with orange here anyway, it dont bother me, i just steal broadband from unsecure wifi routers lol
*Double Post* Thats wot u get for stealing broadband lol
I'm in an opposites position here...
Live in the US with a European DIAM100...lol
Hello I have a European and like to trade it for a US version.
Also I'm sure like in in almost any Phones the UMTS Antenna is the same it is only limited by the Software (Radio) Big guys even on XDA developers denid that on the new Google Nexus one but HTC/Google confirmed it is ONly the "RADIO". GUess there is the whole world with one Standard and USA/ Canada with least than 6 different standards not compatibel to the rest of the World. THe Hardware guys pruduce for this development Country USA 7 extra and incompatibel HArdware version. It is haard to beleive and from any manufacture standpoint totaly inefficent.
So i would try first the regular Radios and good luck.
