How to improve radio performance? - Touch 3G ROM Development

Been quite pleased with my Jade so far. It's what the Diamond should have been.
The disappointment came when I got to work and I couldn't get a 3G signal. Even the Diamond could get that!
I have stock HTC ROM 1.40.721.2
Radio 0.27.30.9
Is there a specific radio version that will work better in the UK?
Any ideas of how to improve the performance or am I just going to have to bin yet another windows mobile device?

Europian guys - what is the best radio version for us?

I am using radio version 1.46.00.11 (Indigo lite and other ROM's). I have sometimes poor cellular reception, sometimes I am not available at all.
I am thinking that changing my radio version, might help in this.
I am asking the Europian buddies here (900/1800 GSM networks) what is the best/optimized radio version at your own knowledge/experience?
I believe the American optimized version is different since Americans are using the 950/1900 GSM networks.

Have tried the shipped radio version and my current 1.46.30.11. The performance is the same, meaning relatively speaking bad indoor (low or no signal sometimes). Outdoor good.
same for me
I was told bt someone that I might be using a bit incompatible radio version, so I'm trying to investigate.
I update my radio to 1.46.30.11 from 1.38... and and the big differens is that gps performes much faster and everything seems to be just better with this radio. seems that my batterie is last a little bit longer than before too,
so Im very happy with this update.
I had 1.46.30.11 but went back to 1.46.00.11 and its much better !!
No more dropped calls for me
Dunno why but I think for Europe 1.46.00.11 is better ...
Kind regards,
I returned to... 1.38 which seems a bit better than 1.46.xxx
Using 1.46.00.11 in the Netherlands without problems, but the original was radio was fine also. Basically, could not detect any differences so far for me but will skip flashing to 1.46.30.11 since the numerous bad experiences with it.
Where can i find the 1.38.00.11 radio? only radio
in XDA's FTP site.

I have been looking to upgrade my Tytn II to the latest ROM however I have not been able to get the upgrade it from HTC.
but its seems to not be there....
My system is
R 1..27.15.32
G 22.51.8.13H
D 1.82.00.00
Now I"m not sure what all those numbers ar efor but I know the R is for radio!!
I got lost after reading that bit... I was going to try to upgrade it myself but got confused so I stopped... trying and thought I'd wait till an update was available from HTC...
Well it seems its not to me anyways...
SO if there is anyone out there that can help me sort out an upgrade..
I live in Brisbane, and use optus as my carrier... my phone is unlocked as far as I know... I purchased it on the net from a Melbourne online store.

Exactly! Having been there, done that and decided to go back to WM 6.0, in my effort to help a fellow person from 'down under', I can tell targ that if he uses (or expects to use) Tomtom or GPS at all on the device, he'd better be very patient at waiting for satellite locks under WM 6.1.
Although HTC have improved some of their WM 6.1 upgrades by using a newer Radio, I've tried the latest WWE version and it's still far short of what my original WM 6.0 implementation achieved as far as GPS performance is concerned. Once you upgrade to 6.1 it's quite a task to go back to WM 6.0 (the spl needs reverting too) so I had HTC do that on my device under warranty.
Yup tried reading that...
got lost as to what I need to match to what!!!
Like I said I'm looking for a some help to do this .
I"ll have another crack at it though see if I can make sense of any of it...
Peto01 man what you mean the gps goes crap... in 6.1
Is this only in a few units or every unit.

Have a look at this thread about *hopeless* GPS after 6.1 update
The problem seems fairly widespread with TyTN II WM 6.1 updates. Since the ROM and Radio on your device seem to be from the Rogers network (as listed in the xda-dev wiki), that may explain why the generic HTC upgrade doesn't work for your device (only genuine HTC TyTN IIs will run the HTC upgrade as-is).
If you're just wanting to upgrade to WM 6.1 because it's the latest, you may be disappointed!
Useful!
I was browsing forum trying to see should I upgrade my stock 6.0 ROM to 6.1. Now I am sure that I will wait for couple more months (weeks?) !
I'm inclined to wait until the next ROM and Radio release has been tested/reviewed
I'm inclined to let someone else be the guinea pig regarding fixing the broken GPS. When a new ROM/Radio Combination is released on HTC eClub/Support, I'll check here to see how reports about GPS performance look and then when I'm sufficiently sure it's not still broken, will again jump over to WM 6.1.
Once bitten, twice shy and I don't want to have to get HTC to revert it to WM 6.0 again!

I had the same experience and reverted back to 6.0 roms. BUT I've recently been using Garmins WM6.1 DK3 with radio 1.65.17.56 and the GPS fix is always quick and strong - Works all over UK. This setup may be worth considering.

I want to keep it all official HTC and not have to use hardspl at this stage, besides I prefer the look of the original HTC setup (themes, icons etc) over the customised Garmin DK3. The latest official HTC ROM for the device uses the same radio as you're using and I was far from satisfied with its reception instability compared to the old WM 6.0 setup. I've sent a letter to the big cheese at HTC so will wait and see what happens!
Flying Kiwi,
What do you mean "Rogers network" (WTF) I bought a HTC Tytn II from a Retailer. surely this is not a fake HTC??
Should I be looking at taking it back?
Does this mean I don't have any Warrenty?
This would be why HTC said that the Upgrade is not a suitable for my unit... going by the S/N!!
What am I to DO now.
As for the GPS issue some seem to be having no real issue with cooked roms.
AS I live in Australia would I need to get a diff radio then say you in the UK?
I"m rather intrested in the L26 TL ROM of Leo's
And if I understand it correctly I need to
1. run jump SPL
2. then flash the SPL that suits the rom I go for.
3. flash the Radio
4. Flash the ROM I have choisen.
Then hard reset.
IS that right?
or have I got the order wrong or missed a step.
Just trying to make a simple as I can..
Would my location and carrier make a difference as to which SPL, ROM, RADIO I use.
OH yeah !
What Does the R, D, and G mean...
Well, I finally did my first ROM change (to 6.1) and have to say I don't have any problems at all.
I have a T-mobile Vario 3, that although everything worked, I always found slow and buggy.
I went for Sleuths 6.1 V3 ROM, simply because I was a hermes user before and his stuff was always flawless.......and I was proved right again.
It's really simple to do, contains the correct radio (much better than the shipped one), and is really fast and stable. Had it a week and used it intensively - no problems with Tomtom or GPS - the same, if not better than it was before.
I would suggest, if you're not sure which one to go for then try this and see if it suits you.
Ok I tried to use the link in the WIki to the Jump SPL the latest one that only needs you to follow the on screen info..
And well according to the on screen prompts it must be done but as for the unit its self I don't hink so as nothing really happened on it... I"m thinking that the wizard does not like Vista or it does not like Sync Centre.
anyone able to help me out ....
No WTFs reqd after-all

Your Radio (R) is the same as that used by Rogers on their WM 6.0 ROMs. But you're right, I missed the bit about your 1.82 series ROM though so it looks more like you have the 3rd one down the wiki list of HTC WM 6.0 ROMs here and not the first: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs

Not if it currently works as you need it to but you could see what their explanation for why there is no WM 6.1 upgrade for your device yet is. HTC in Australia should also be able to advise you http://www.htc.com/au/about_htc.aspx?id=21840

And some are so are you willing to take that risk as a newbie and get stuck with a non-original non-warrantable installation thats not straight forward to revert back to original WM 6.0 if it plays up for you? Is it not worth liasing with HTC first to see what they have to say about a possible WM 6.1 update if you're really that keen?

Pass on the Radios but if history is anything to go by, there are a few different ROMs on that wiki page released for Australia. If you do a bit of searching around here I think you'll find cases of peoples non-Australian purchased TyTN IIs having problems when used there as well. I can't recall what the issues were but there definitely were issues (months ago before WM 6.1 came out on the Kaiser). Perhaps a search for Australia just in the Kaiser General or Kaiser ROM Dev forums may yeild results.
Thanks heaps I'll follow your leads Cheers

Which Radio Is best

I keep reading about radios and some people have better luck with different versions. is this to do with which country / network your connected to. If so could we make a list of radios that work best for you e.g.
My setup
UK/ t-mobile = L26 7.5/ 1.10.25.25 radio
feels like im losing battery quickier then the original radio
Thank you
I would also be interested in the results of this.
Was using 1.09.25.35 on 02 uk. Since going to dutty's 1.8 ROM, moved to 1.10.25.25 which seems to be better with this ROM (initial impressions).

Same for me on 3 in the UK - which drops back to orange in 2g areas. Still not as good receiption as my trinity though.
1.10 boosts my signal with some towers, at home i got an better signal with an increase of 3 bars, but at work it has dropped 2 bars compared to 1.09.

Same for me with Orange UK.
1.09.25.14 seems to work best for me here in Beijing, China.
Good battery life, good reception.
my opinion: nobody knows what is changed, so nobody knows what is best for you! i tend to believe that incrementing numbers take incremental benefits - and if i notice something which I dislike i go back one step!
in this moment, i am testing 1.12 with the same philosophy, one week of trial - and then let's make the point!

AT&T users from Jersey/NYC area

I'd like to update my radio, which one would you guys suggest with the best performance?

Can I improve my 4g speeds

Hi all I am currently running viper Rom sense 6 and I am hearing of a lot of people who are getting 40mbps+ on their internet speed test ( allegedly) I can only get 20mbps. Is there a radio or hboot anyone would recommend for UK o2 that might improve the speed or is that the best I'll get with o2.
Cheers

Nope. It all depends on what your carrier is and how strong the signal is. Nothing to do with radios or the hboot.
