Hi,
Everytime I connect to my wifi at home and try to browse a page on PIE the HSDPA data connection kicks in and overrides my wifi connection.
Is there anyway to stop this? As I'd rather be using my wifi at home, leaving my HSDPA for out and about.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Russ.
Modacco NoData works great!
Google it, you may need to register to get it. If your lucky, you can find it in this forums (probably after hours of searching ). I dont have the program on hand, sorry!
Hi there,
I got a problem which I would like to share with you. When using skype with a GPRS conn, the program do not initiate a connection. If it is using WiFi, then it works with no problems. If I have initiated a GPRS conn with some other program, i.e. browsing with my opera browser, then skype connects with no problems to the allready initiated GPRS conn. What can cause this?
Thanks in advance.
skype over gprs?
would this even work, skype needs a broadband speed connection to work and skype do not support calls over gprs, maybe this is why
Skype will only work over wifi or 3G, it will not work over GPRS.

3G or HSPDA - just the same. Skype do not initiate any conn. To be able to log in I must, at first, start a browser, open a page, keep the conn alive and then to log in with Skype
When you first ran it, did you set it to only connect on WiFi?
Log into Skype, then go to Menu > Settings
Scroll down to Connection
In Connection Method, does it say WiFi and 3G, or Use Wifi only?
If connected using WiFi only is selected, it may refuse to initiate a 3G connection, but will happily use on if its already active.

Yes, I have selected both WiFi and 3G and I see the screen warning me that Skype is going to use a 3G conn. The problem is that Skype do not initiate any conn, just use any if it is already initiated. WiFi conn is switched on manually by the user, not Skype. Same is with 3G - it must be initiated previously from some other program and Skype just uses it. Further more, if 3G conn is closed while using SKype, then Skype can not initiate it again. All this is too strange for me. I uninstalled Skype, deleted all files connected with it, checked registry for strings that might be in use from Skype, then installed it again and nothing changed. I have no other installed programs for handling internet connections, just those that come built in with my PPC.
I had this problem with another program that wouldn't initiate the connection. I checked my connection settings, and it was set to automatically dial MEdia Net (since i use AT&T) and I switched it to automatically dial My ISP GPRS and ever since, my programs have been dialing fine.
hey man i had the same issues i went in to conection settings and changed them to media net becouse thats what i use thats in conections then conections advanced select networks i also disabled my proxy in conections 2 and it worked for me dont know witch one of those did it for me but that should get you in the right direction
Yeah, you have to select media net as default, and disable the proxy.
The proxy is the one that's preventing you from connecting. Other programs figure it out but some don't bother and can't connect.
hey sorry if i'm hijacking ur thread but
I was curious if anyone knows about this. I'm not using a 3g connection as well. My skype gives me the option of using a "cellular" connection, but it doesn't show it connecting to my edge or gprs. I was curious as to whether anyone know if it's edge or gprs? (trying to find out if it's using minutes or whatever.. a connection besides edge n grps)
Thanks for your time
Hi,
I have a problem with the GPRS and Wireless connection. I am using Windows Live mail and and set it up so it is manually synchronized! Same with other mail accounts.
But, every time I connect to the internet using wireless and then press Send/Recieve, it keeps opening GPRS and use it to retrieve new e-mails and ignores my wireless connection!!! Which is really annoying.
How do I fix that?
I have exactly the same... but then with internet sharing with my laptop... keeps using my gprs/3g instead off the wifi that is 100 times faster.
annoying
and it is really annoying as you said, it is much faster with wifi and for people like me where I do not have monthly GPRS data included, it's really annoying and costs a lot.
Earlier, I had my e-mail to automatically download new emails daily and suddenly, I got a huge phone bill because of that problem!! So, e-mails are downloaded manually now until I fix the problem!!

Newer Windows Live always tries to connect using your default Internet Connection even when you are already online. To solve this, you need to go to:
Start->Settings->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks. Change everything to My Work Network.
With this, Windows Live won't try to connect when you have active internet connection. The problem now is, if you have no active internet connection, it will force your device to connect to your gprs/3g but will fail to work. You will need to reset the setting above to your gprs/3g connection.
yes but
Yes but chaning preferences for my network would result in not having my mms working, or gprs when I need it?
However, I have to go back to settings and change everything again to get things to work!!!! I would rather have a solution than a workaround
not working

Have you tried NoDATA with HTC Diamond with WM6.1?? NoData seems to be an old cab file for older versions of WM?
Hi All
Just wondering if anyone knows a tweak or even a rom that will make wifi the priority over gprs. I'd like all my auto updating apps to use my wifi connection ONLY to do their update. I don't want them to use GPRS, i don't want them to update if i'm not at home, just if they find a wifi connection then update otherwise nevermind...
Thanks in advance
U can use application called NODATA,

awesome! thanks mate
Hi,
I have the problem that my diamond sometimes establishes the expensive data connection via UMTS even if wlan is active.
it would be nice if WM would ask me before it opens such a data connection where i can click yes or no or something like that.
i dont want to disable the data connection because sometimes i need it. but i hate it that this connection is established without asking me.
is there any possibility to configure the diamond that way or any software which provides such a feature?
thx in advance
