Thanks mrcrs
Please, in which order i need to update? First SPL?

hey guys, is any way to use nandroid backup to restore my data, sms and other things without changing the ROM?
Because i update to jf 1.5 and when I use nandroid, my rom become 1.1
tks
anyone? plzz
Yeah, if you restore a 1.1 nandroid on a 1.5 ROM, it will restore back to 1.1. So don't do it.

I been wanting to update my rooted G1 for a few days but im not sure how to go about it, im currently running FW version 1.1 from Jesusfreke and I want to update to his 1.5. I know theirs a updater on the market but im like agh .. about it and dont know whether to trust it
its options are:
-Cupcake radio only install once!!!!
-JF 1.51 cupcake ADP1
-JF 1.5 (cupcake) ADP1
-JF 1.43 ADP1-1.1 Holiday
-JF 1.42 ADP1-1.1
i WOULD DO THE UPDATER BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO
You dont trust the updater?
Install the radio first, i'm assuming you have an older version.
then...
install 1.51adp, it's the newest. why is this hard?
I didnt know if i had to install the radio first but thanks
I am about to root my phone for the first time. I notice on this thread here that under "Install CyanogenMOD 4.0.1 (Stable)" section it says to install the CyanogenMOD 4.0.1. (stupid question) Can I install the new version the CyanogenMOD v4.0.4 found on this thread instead of the 4.0.1?
Second question.
Back on this Thread here again under the "Flash the New RADIO and SPL" section it states in nice red letters "NOTE: Please read carefully before flashing! This could BRICK your phone!!!". Do i have to install the New Radio and SPL in order to have the full root and features with the said ROM? I really don't want to brick my phone if i can avoid it.

you can flash 4.0.4, that was just the stable build at the time of the threads creation. you do not have to install the new spl to run cyanogen's roms. the new spl is for running hero and other htc based builds. most likely you already have the new radio if you are on cupcake(1.5). any other questions?

if you root by downgrading to rc-29 then you will have to reflash the newest radio bc the DREAIMG.nbh overwrites the radio

is there any other way of rooting besides going down to rc-29 and using DREAIMG.nbh? Or will doing it a different way be an even more pain.

Hello this is my first post here as I'm having trouble with my G1
first of all last night I tried to upgrade from donut to eclair but I got nowhere, I just had a bricked phone wouldn't go past t-mobile and g1 logo. Today I fixed it but it will only run the RC7 & RC8 updates and not go any higher as there is always a failure or no verification.
I was wondering if you guys can help me get from 1.1 to 1.6 or 2.0. and root as that didn't work either
Thanks
I'd suggest starting with the root since you're already on a cupcake build.
Then you can flash you SPL and Radio and head to a good rom. The thing about 2.0 roms are that you need the danger, hard or hayruki spl to flash because your phone partition isn't large enough to hold the rom.

These are the steps I followed to root but now I have a bricked phone

So...
You want to intentionally go OUT OF YOUR WAY to make it difficult for the buyer to be able to do what they want with it?
LEAVE AN ENGINEERING SPL ON IT!!!!
Install SPL version 1.33.2003 -- this is a full engineering SPL with original partition layout.
Then you head over to developer.htc.com/adp.html and grab the newest ADP1 firmware files. Flash that.
The thing will be root-via-adb and fastboot, so the new user will not have to do any weird hacks to get what he wants from the thing. At the same time, he will have a bone stock ROM on it that functions predictably.
Hello, I recently downgraded my firmware to RC29 in an attempt to install the latest cyanogen 6.

You have cyanogen recovery 1.4 you say?
First:
install 1.33.2003 (very important -- ends in a THREE) SPL. Search the forum for it, should be around.
Second:
install 2.22.19.26 or 2.22.23.02 radio (.19.26 is available at developer.htc.com/adp.html).
Third: install a newer recovery image. Check the dev forum.
Fourth: install any ROM you like. You can install the bone stock ADP1 system image (like tmobile stock, but has root), if you want to try CM6, you should look in the dev forum for firerat's MTD PARTITION HACK THREAD. Hell, it would do you good anyway.
Thanks! Time to do some reading and get this resolved.
