Ambient Light Sensor with Rogers? - G1 Apps and Games

I jut loaded a Rogers ROM and notied that ALS doesnt work anymore. I assume its because of changes HTC made to the camera app? Any ideas or am I hosed?

It didn't work for me either with Cyanogenized Rogers ROM. Then I've tried The Dude's Cupcake - the same. So it seems like it's only working with "original" ROMs, but not the moded ones.
Which Rogers ROM did you use?

I tried Cyanogenized Rogers as well as ramjet5a

Anyone successfully using this thing? It says it's compatible but mine is not working.. and I don't see a driver for it..

Hmm i guess no one has got this working yet :O
I got an older one from my trinity and works perfectly on my HTC Magic (vodafone version and standard ROM ).
Nothing added.

The exact same one as in the link above? Chrome control panel, etc?
Exactly the same ... in white
When I plug the remote, nothing appears on the phone, no notification.
When I use the music related buttons, the music player doesn't show but an icon appears in the taskbar to show it's playing music.
Green and red buttons to Answer / make calls work too.
Perhaps something related to the Rogers device ?
Mine still plays music through the handset and not through the headphones. And none of the buttons work. This is annoying.. I am surprised there is only a few of us with this thing.. lol.
I think i have tried it on a few differnent roms, and still no luck. I don't see how it could be a hardware thing.. feels like a driver thing. Even if the music doesn't come out of the headphones, there is no way it should still come from the handset!!!

I'm interested on getting this thing to work, too. I'm running cynogenmods 4.0.1 rom on a 32b device from Vodafone germany and I can hear the music in my headphones but the buttonds don't work and the mic does appear to work.

You can search your drivers on the site of HTC.
They will provide you complete drivers. If not possible then you can search it from search engine.

I highly doubt this.
The only thing I can foresee is that a lot of these sites selling them are saying they are available late August, so perhaps they are coming out with the same device that does have new drivers for it.
Unless richermartyn has downloaded said drivers and his remote is working perfectly.
I am jealous that some of you actually have part of it working. Nothing on it works for me.
What type of ear buds do you have (that shouldn't even make a difference!). I have some somewhat nice sony ones.

Seems like it's only the 32a/HTC Branded devices that are supported. Got that confirmed from HTC Europe after sending them an email.

Interesting.. I guess that would be my Rogers 32a magic.. but I have a hero rom installed.. hmm. I guess I will flash a rogers rom later and see if they work, and if they do, maybe someone can rip them from it or something..

Well to quote the support they said:
"The headset/rc has not been confirmed working for the HTC Magic but it will apparently work on HTC Branded phones and most definitly not on your Vodaphone magic (32b)"
I'll try to see if those drivers do any good or if they're only for winmo phones.
Edit: Regarding the ear buds, I use a pair of WESC Bongo deltas and they work great with the rc when it comes to playing music and using in call.
Ah I see.. "Has not been confirmed".. neat lol.
Well let me know how it goes.
Maybe they will release something for real.. I am seeing a lot of online stores advertising these things to work with the Magic.
Very weird that it's still working for some people though.. sigh. I've barely used it.. lol.
It's a cyanogen rom issue. Installed the latest stock rom and it worked brilliantly.
I am about to try a stock rogers rom.
It was not working on jacheroski or myhero etc etc.. those are all probably similar anyways though.
Edit: still does not work! lol. Which rom did you install and what phone do you have?

Here's a 32a port of the rom I'm using. It's supposed to be the latest stock rom for the magic and all the buttons seemed to work except the mute button, but that doesn't matter.
I have a german Vodafone Magic with the 32b board.

Direct link to the fw:

and when installing, it seems like you must wipe all your data or the startup can hang on the splash or say that the android process is not running which leads to you having to force close.
For the remote, i'm on a 32B and works perfectly on the Voda stock rom.
Now I just updated with a Hero Rom (Qtek 1.3b).
I will try if it still works.
Edit: Tested on QtekRom 1.3b . Works for calls / volume . The sound is ok thru headphones

yikes, that 32a port won't even flash for me. No signature, and verification failed. gah!
I tried another rogers/ion rom, still no dice.

Do you have the correct recovery ?
Try flashing with Cyanogen recovery. Worked for me on my device.
Edit: I got a reply from another forum member saying that this rc should work on Superhero roms. I although havn't tested that.

I am running Amon_RA's recovery, 1.2.0 I think. Oie.. seems like I will have to do some more flashing when I have time. Too bad it was not easy to figure out files used for this device.

Help! I'm using these ROMS and now I'm getting bad Reception!

Hey guys, I live in a rural area in the USA and I use to get a pretty steady 1-2 bars my house. Recently I started flashing my ROM with some of the ROMs here and I've noticed I can now only get maybe 1 bar by my window. I was wondering if somehow my radio got changed or something else? I'm on T-mobile. Thanks for you help.

What radio version have you got installed?
(in case you don't know, look under 'start>system>settings>device information>software information'.)
Here's a thread with lots of different radio versions for download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939
Different radio versions are often better suited to different geographic areas/carriers. Take a read and see whether there are any comments about a particular radio version from someone who lives near you/uses the same carrier.
It says:
4.49.25.17
I'm knew here and I understand the concept of ROMs but what is the radio for and does flashing the ROM change it?

You can go here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939 and read about the different radios. Some roms work better with certain radios. Flash some and see what works best for you..
The radio (not to be confused with the internal FM-radio) is the firmware which controls the device's various antennas (among other hardware). It sits between your device's hardware and Windows Mobile. The radio is a huge factor in your reception in a given area, so changing radio versions may help you. The only problem with radios is that your situation is completely unique, and therefore, nobody can tell you which radio is best for your location. My advice is to simply try the latest ones, and see how those work, and using older and older ones until you find one that works for you. The procedure for flashing ROMs and radios is the same. Just ensure you don't flash a CDMA radio, or you'll brick your device. Visit cr1960's link for all GSM Rhodium radios.

Aluminum foil wrapped around a fork and tied to my phone seems to work for me.
Flashing a cooked ROM won't affect your radio version. But if you flash an official ROM, that usually comes with its own radio version too.

[Q] KB1 Compatible Modems

Has anyone tried the other modems to work with the stock froyo to see if they work better?
Not tried any myself since flashing KB1, but when on JJ4, trying any non AT&T Froyo modem.bin would result in a loss of sound during voice calls. HSUPA however would work under such a condition. Too bad I need this device to work as a phone first. To get a non AT&T modem, you needed to go with a non AT&T kernel, and then bluetooth voice would be static, so you also need a non AT&T framework. With a native ROM, you are pretty much HSDPA only, unless someone figures out how to patch in necessary code to enable the required handshaking.
I tried some other modems, but none had working sound in phone calls. You might be able to get vibrant modems to work, but then you'd lose 3g
When I was first working on HSUPA for the Captivate, I found that no alternate modem worked properly on the Captivate software. I believe this is due to the code being "wired up" a little differently. Every alternate modem lacked sound in phone calls and the only way around this was to use an I9000 (or Vibrant, etc) ROM with a matching modem. I think everyone stopped trying to find out exactly why the other modems don't work with Captivate ROMs once it reoriented kernels solved any issues we had with running I9000 ROMs on the Captivate. It was just a lot easier to use an I9000 ROM with an I9000 modem.
What we need is some kind of spreadsheet with ROMs down the side and modems across the top, and 3 different symbols representing Data, Voice, and GPS. You would colour each one RED, YELLOW or GREEN depending on how well it performed at that task on a given ROM.

[Q] HTC Hero Alaska Communications

I have rooted and succesfully backed up my original rom I am wandering since I use verizon networks will the roms for sprint be the wrong roms for my phone.I would like a rom that is stable and fast that will let me configure wap mms sms so that i can use my phone on Page Plus which is on verizon networks. THANX
I have been reading that the eris is basically the same phone different skin branded for verizon so will eris roms work on my phone. THANX
Also forgot to mention that my hero came from Alaska Communications Services. I dont know how much different the phone is from others but it looks just like the sprint phone. There website calls it a HERO 200. This should have been further up even though I put it in the header someone might get confused as to what I meant in the heading. I do know the htc sync is different the 1 for sprint would not work so I looked up there site and downloaded from there and it works great. THANX
Hmm seems no one knows or I asked a question no one wants to tackle.
since you backed up your stock rom.. why not just try an eris or a hero rom? whats the worst that could happen? it doesn't work and you restore?
it shouldnt matter what rom u use as long as its for the cdma hero, roms do not affect data unless it specifically says so.
So the rom only changes rom and nothing else. I have been reading on this for only a week and learning by the minute thankyou both for your reply.Beirce22 I noticed you are using cyanogen 7.1 does everything like camera, gps, etc work well for you and how fast is it im ready to start my first rom flash. THANX
yes cyanogen is very stable its been my daily for about a week now and everything works as far as i know.

t-mobile Nexus One radio frequency fix?

I have an original Nexus One ordered from Google locked to t-mobile. When we moved to europe we found the data didn't work, because the radio didn't handle those frequencies.
So now I've flashed it with the evervolv ics and I find the radio is now doing data. So I'm guessing the radio was software limited?
(apologies if this is a known thing - I am pretty pleased with life right now and wanted to share!)

Did you flash the radio or just the rom? Could it have been you didn't initially have the proper APN settings applied ?
Good call
You're right - just the ROM.
When we signed up with (O2? I don't remember now) they theoretically set everything. When it didn't work I may have gone in and tried to re-set things, but it's possible I messed something up - I'm not really savvy on that side of things.
