guys...
any1 got any idea how come when I'm using the build in QWERTY keyboard, I'm having trouble typing words "near" or "haha" ?
Under options for the input types, I've already untick "Suggest words when entering text" and cleared stored entries.
For example, I can't type the words "near", it will prompt me if I want to add "a" after I've type "ne"
I do not have any problems when using the software based QWERTY keyboard though.
hmm.. dun tell me only my set having this prob?
I would suggest ticking "Suggest words when entering text" because with it unticked you wont get any words suggested!
I have the following settings on my MDA Vario III and it works perfectly:
Suggest after entering A SPACE
Suggest 4 word(s)
Add a space after word AND Enable Auto Correct ar both ticked
With that done you can add a word to the built in dictionary as follows:
1. Type the whole word you want to add e.g. near then type a space
2. Type the word again and it should be in the dictionary now (at which point it will be suggested in the list of words it brings up!)
FYI when I tested it just now my phone didn't suggest near or haha until I had typed them first, now both appear after I type a few letters!
I hope this helps, but please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Cheers

Great. It is clear now at last how it works. Do you know also how to delet words from this dictionary?
The only way I have found to delete words is as follows BUT bear in mind that it gets rid of ALL the words that you have added:
Start>Settings>Input>Word Completion then click on Clear Stored Entries
Cheers

Thanks.
I have been trying to work out how to clear out suggested words.
Clear suggested entries seemed too straight forward
hey guys, is it just me or is it normal that when you're typing an sms and select the suggested word in t9, it does NOT add a space, perform spelling or suggest next word. I find it a bit annoying that after selecting the predicted text that I then have to hit the space button again.
I've checked "Add a space after word" and "enable auto correct"
Is anyone else having this problem?
Same thing as you.....
also no t9 with keyboard option...would be good if had.
...and the T9 does not allow a new word to contain a number and letter combo. for example "2moro"
i know i should not be butchering the english language but it sure is handy.
previous winmo devices have allowed me to add number letter combo's so this seems weird
The X1 manual talks about handwriting recognition but I can't seem to make it work. There's a dearth of info on this feature in the manual. Coming from a P990i I expect that when I'm in an input field and tap the screen with my stylus I should get the cursor and the < on the right so I can scribble but no. Is it wishful thinking or do I need to learn new tricks?
You need to learn slightly new tricks.
When in an input mode you should have a keyboard icon with an arrow. Click on the arrow and change the method to Letter Recognizer.
You now have three boxes along the bottom. Capitals go in the first, lowercase in the second, third does numbers. Very similar to the P990i with Above, Below and On the arrow.
Some letters will be different but you'll learn them after time.
There are two offer method, transcriber which allows you to write full words on the screen, but I find this is harder as you make errors half way through and then have to delete complete words.
Or Block Recognizer which is similar to the first method, but the letter inputs were more different to the old UIQ phones.
Do you have a Swedish ROM? In that case you don't have letter recognizer installed by default! You can find it with a simple google search!
Thanks artesea.

It does take some learning. Just tried it and it's quite good. I have to learn to use the spaces for the three modes. It was quite straight forward on the UIQ as the "scratching" went where you wanted to write. In time I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
Can you please more specific? I can't able to work that..
Thank you!

Are you using a stock ROM? Most custom ROMs disable/remove Letter Recognizer by default
Hey All,
I have 4 concerns about SMS that I need anyone to share his/her knowledge with them.
Is there anyway to start sms in an ABC Mode? (Not T9)
Second is there any registry setting that I can change so sms starts in the writing field not the phone number field?
Third, is there a way so I can I always enable CAPS to be always on??
Forth Is there any registry editing that can make the first letter I write in an sms to be a capital letter one? or any letter wrote after a (.) for example to be capital?
Please anyone shares his experience about these concerns.
Thanks.

If you change to T9, or ABC, it should remember next time you write a message

Should happen as default
You need to leave a space so that it puts a capital letter after a punctuation mark.

Not the case here also It does so when I write an appointment or something in the calendar...but It dont work when I write an SMS...
Shaady: I will try leaving a space after the (.) to capitalize the letter..however, it dont capitalize the first letter I write in the sms dialog.
Thanks dudes,
But how can I check the registry settings of the keyboard are right or not?
Much appreciated.
not sure on reg settings. what ROM are u using?
i use the 'Full QWERTY' keyboard, and tapping on the CAPS/shift key twice changes to caps lock.

I use the original 1.93.737.1 ROM m8.
Maybe bec. u use the Full Qwerty keyboard it saves the T9/ABC mode for the next time you starts it bec. I tried it and It worked.
However, I use Compact Qwerty and it never saves status of the ABC/T9 Mode I use...It always starts with T9.

i go in this order to;
settings
locale and text
touch input
then the options are keyboard types, keyboard language, text input, and tutorial. i click text input and it only says prediction, spell correction, word completion, sound, and vibrate . every option is unchecked, but it still automatically capitalizes the first letter of every new line or sentence .
