IMEI changed by apllying a TNT ROM ? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi everyone,
I bought in december 2007 a kaiser (tytn2) which unfortunately can't work on 3G network so i had to manually set it to GSM to be able to call or receive call.
So basically i am paying for an "illythics" contract which should give me access to surf in 3G or even TV but since 3G is not working i apy for nothing.
As the warranty is 24 month in europe i decided after more than 18 months to bring it to my provider to repair it (SFR) but before that i had to put back an SFR ROM inside.
I had to put back an sfr rom because in january 2008 i installed a TNT ROM (found on XDA i think). IT was alos a reason i didn't bring it before because i had to backup all my stuff and go back to SFR.
SO do that i had to read a lot of topic again (after 18 month, i forgot how to hardspl) ... I finally put back an SFR ROM but still had the splash screen as TNT. To get read of it fortunately, as i was back on SFR i was able to upgrade to the last sfr rom and yes the splash screen was SFR again.
Yesterday i brought it to an sfr shop in france with the box (V1615) and they 1st checked the IMEI. What they found is it was not the same as on my contract but checked my box and even in the phone and found the IMEI I has on my contract. They could not explain why it was not the same but accepted to get it to be repaired. But the IT system didn't accept it for repair saying my warranty was only 12 months. So i called the "reclamation" service and they say i have 24 months and will deal with a shop to let me be able to get it repaired.
So they are gonna take it but i am worrying that is the repair service checked the IMEI also, they would not repair it.
I wonder how the IMEI was changed ? was it possible by putting this TNT ROM my IMEI changed also (as the spalsh screen was changed too) ?
Can anyone would help me to understand why my IMEI was changed and tell me if there is any way to put the correct one again ? (if not of course i will give it to repair service and will pray joshua, boudha and mahomet that they won't check the IMEI either that in the back of the phone).
Thanks for any help on that matter

If it's just the last two digits that changed, that's normal, it's just the software version number.
Dave

no, it is no only the 2 last digits, it is the whole number. any other idea ?

When you remove the battery is that the same IMEI that is on the contract?

yes the IMEI number behind the battery is the same as on the contract and on the sfr v1615 box. any idea ?

So show them that your phones IMEI is listed on the back. Have fun.

Yes send it back to HTCs repair centre under warranty and tell them the problem either wasn't fixed properly the first time or has reocurred. You also need to ensure your network provider has provided you with the correct sim for a Kaiser (although you say it's a Tilt which is AT&T your icon shows vodafone so for them it'll be the same sim as for their V1615).
I got the same error today... but it works again now.
I dont realy know what append.
First I tried it in another phone Ok on that phone, not on the HTC TyTN2
second I tried on HTC P3600 it is ok,
Third retry on the HTC Tytn2 it worked well.!!!
The Htc Tytn2 is under WM6.1 (upgraded from WM 6.0)
When the issue occured, during the boot, I got the message to start in safe mode may be there was somthing wrong with one driver.
when I got it running with the sim the HTC didn't ask any more to start in safe mode... let you investigate.... good luck

I'm confused as to what you actually have there is it
A) A Tilt (ie the US Version of a Kaiser with bloatware but no VGA Camera) which is used on AT&Ts network
B) A 'genric' ie HTC branded TyTN II
C) A Tilt but you've never activated it and instead unlocked it/modified it to use a Vodafone sim on it or
D) None of the above (in which case what is your arrangement)?
Anyone who has a Tilt but unlocks it to use another providers sim in it (without getting the unlock code from AT&T to do it officially - or putting it back to stock condition before reporting a problem) will probably run into warranty problems I'd imagine - I hope this isn't you
it is a at&t from usa. For unlocking sim as many others did when they need to replace their mobile was to put in back original software so should not be a problem. What if i get at&t sim card and number will at&t consider me as their client a replace my tilt under warranty !
This happened to me! I was taking a nap and I woke up wondering why I hadn't received a call, and there was the emergency call only screen. I turned off my phone and then took the SIM card out, put it back in, and booted it up. It did the same thing, but I turned it off and turned it back on and it was fine. I hope it doesn't happen anymore, I was scared. Good luck getting yours back! That's the only problem I've had with my Tilt, minus the not having 3G or Edge service where I go to college.. even though it's on the highest hill in town. and I'm supposed to have service. hmm.

You can try a rom upgrade or use a CID Unlocker Here Or you can change your imei through registry but i aint sure how to
its already sim unlocked but i dont know if its secuirty unlocked
i emailed olipro a while a go but he didnt respond. either he or tupisdin originally unlocked it for me i cant remember as i had a dimaond previously aswell which i sold for a touch pro, then missed so bad i bought another one
would i be allowed to change imei i thought this was illegal?
il give anything a try right now. if i security unlock again and sim unlock again will this do anything? or maybe if i flash the radio or rom again maybe???? its already hardspl
man thi sis so frustrating im angry!!
o2 just called me and said "technically" they unlocked everything there end but still it wont show signal, i tried 3 different sim cards now too
something did change - it now shows the G symbol by the signal but still no signal - there is just an "!" there
anyone?
id really appreciate some help here guys
This may seem stupid and it probably is but have you tried flashing a hard reset or maybe even flashing a new radio? I don't know if it will work but I'd certainly give it a try if I was you... You never know and you've got nothing to lose...
Hi patterns,
The only way to unbar the device is by the original provider (O2).
The provider simply places a national IMEI block so that your device can't be used anymore in the UK.
The only thing to prevent the device from being barred is by change the IMEI (which is illegal), but the info to do that isn't public (and illegal).
O2 is still the only way to unbar..
hi equinoxe,
thanks - this is what o2 are trying to do, but there is some problem because i moved provider to vodafone and then didnt keep the number, so there is something stuck in transit permanently. o2 have tried 3 times now to do this and keep telling me the same thing, i dont know what to do anymore........
i called and asked if i could change imei, the guy said it would work but he cant assist - obviously as you mention this is not legal. But in saying that is it still illegal if i do it for genuine reason?
man this is so frustrating, i finally out of pure good luck find my phone and it seems useless now!
guys o2 managed to unbar the phone but now it only works on t-mobile and o2????? it wont work on orange or vodafone, any idea why?

Help No Network Signal !!!

Hi i have a brand new unlocked phone but when i insert my simcard phone is booting type the sim pincode, starts up and it says no service.
Ive tried 3 different network providers (prepaid)
Sometimes when im outside i get a signal but its very poor then when im going into a building the signal gets lost and again no service.
Im realy stuck with it cant find answers, tried everything factory reset everytime with a new simcard. I have the latest update. Phone is US version.
Thanks in advance...
Had the same problem with my wifes phone, it worked for about a month then the radio would bounce between 1 bar at boot then fade to nothing, Ive flashed 3 different radios version to it still no go. Ended up sending it in for a replacement only to find out that HTC had a small batch of bad radios in a few phones. Tmobile just swapped it no questions asked.
Should I try to flash with other radio versions and how can i do it? I live in Belgium and got the G1 from Ebay so i dont think i can return the phone. The Seller says that the phone was 100% ok... So nothing I can do about it...
My advice is to check whether the phone has been blacklisted. It's what happened to mine - bought on ebay, was working fine for a week, then just got no service. Phoned up T-Mobile and they told me that it'd been reported stolen, so I then spent a couple of days fighting with the ebay seller, but it's working fine again now.
How can i check that on T-Mobile site? Im not familiar with T-mobile....
Thanks
As far as I know you can't do it online, so just phone them. Shouldn't take too long, just make sure you have your IMEI number ready (which is underneath the battery or can be found by typing *#06# into the dialer).
Edit: Or, the IMEI number can be found in Settings -> About phone -> Status
Called T-Mobile nothing they can do about it... I said if i give you the IMEI... Answer nothing we can do about it... 13min cal from Belgium to US hmmm how much will that cost
Now I really dont have a clue what to do...
Someone else any ideas?

I'm not sure how all this works, but if you're in Belgium, shouldn't you be calling TMobile Europe or something? Can a U.S. blacklisted phone not be able to get service with other providers?
Did not help calling T-mobile... Any suggestions??

bought my diamond second hand off some guy 2 months ago..

and today when I was looking into unlocking my phone, I noticed that the system IMEI is different from the IMEI label on the back of the phone.
I am using a deep shining ROM. did the ROM flash over the IMEI or was my phone just messed up to begin with?
also is there a soft method of finding out whether or not my phone is already unlocked?
Sorry to say but that guy messed your over by changing the IMEI. Flashing a rom doesn't do anything to IMEI, special tools and software CAN change it, and that is what this guy did. You can't do anything to change that, as changing IMEI is downright illegal and you dont want to get caught up in that.
As for finding out if its unlocked, take another companies SIM CARD, ie if you are with ATT, go and get a Rogers, or whoever else uses a SIM CARD, and find out if it will work in the phone.
so, it is quite possible that this phone is stolen? damn... what are the potential consequences of that? if he switched the original IMEI to the current one that I have, what if someone legitamately uses the imei on the same network, am I going to be screwed?

No you will not get screwed. {Unless you really want to; then I'm sure we can arrange for it}
IMEI {International Mobile Electronics Identification} Numbers are uniqe to every phone, but the network does not {& I believe Cannot} read the IMEI. ESNs {Electronic Serial Numbers} are a different thing, as the CDMA networks use this # to Identify the devices network authenticity {in other words: Whether or not it's authorized to use the network}. GSM {Global SIM Management} Phones rely on the SIM card to authenticate the devices access to the network. An IMEI is never sent thru the network! That's like posting your social security # online {Mine's 420-69-840} About the only time that a false IMEI is a problem, is when you need to get it unlocked {as you are trying to}; or if you need to report it stolen/lost. If the latter is the case then you will need to provide the authorities with both IMEIs. This is in case the person that has it removes the label in the back. For unlocking the device, you need to give the # that's in the software; as this is the only # the phone knows. Oh yeah, You can't send it in to get HTC warranty service either
Have you tried asking the person you bought it from about this? I would!! I would want to know why he did it, how he did it, & where the other # came from. It is a possibility that he had replaced the Mainboard with another unit, but he should have changed the labels at the same time. I have done this with a few phones {combine a couple bad ones to make a good one}, but I always ensure the IMEI or ESN matches on the back & in the software! If you believe you were defrauded, then contact the authorities & explain it to them. If there is another phone with the same IMEI, they should be able to tell you.
It might either be that he changed the main board or the cover itself.. (hopefully he did not steal it..)
I wouldnt worry too much about it though. Just go with the IMEI that is displayed on your screen not on the back of the phone.
well i tried to get an unlock code by using the IMEI read off the system page on my diamond and the guy couldnt get aan unlock code; is there anyother way to get the correct code>?

Hi,
Maybe it is or it isn't (but it is possible). It depends on which country that person bought this phone and maybe he used warranty service. I had this issue myself. After 2 month My Diamond didn't recognize my simcard, i sent it for warranty and when it came back GPS didn't work. so i sent it again , when i received it, at repair center they said that they replace mainboard, so imei changes and i received written document that they replaced mainboard (my back panel imei and the imei that phone shows are different now).
for checking it , Goto this site : http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr
enter both imei and check them, if both are for diamond i think your mainboard is changed before, but if the imei that phone shows is belong to another handset (for Ex : a nokia one or another htc model) i can say 99% percent your phone is stolen.
i'd probably bet he's bought an "original" housing from auction site. i've done it many of times but i usually rip the imei sticker off, bear in mind the imei on the diamond is only on a metal plate, he may have forgot to change this part, he may have damaged his old imei sticker/plate, as stated above he may have changed his main board also, there is many possibilities.
don't worry about it, if your still a bit worried try the CheckMEND online service here:
http://www.checkmend.com/uk/
It costs £1.99 per go, (which you'd want to do both imei's) but you get a certificate telling you wahts dodgy or not about your phone.
it a great service if you feel a little worried.

No network service - IMEI help

All,
Not sure if this belongs in here.
Can any one offer their help / opinion on this situation.
A could of weeks back I lost my previous S3 reported it lost to Tesco Mobile (sim only contract) and brought myself my current S4 LTE. This was locked to orange and I had this removed and all was working fine.
The other week went away and had no signal, not unusual for where I was as I never have any signal there so thought nothing more bout it. Got home a few days later and still no signal.
Intially though it may have been my sim as it was an old standard sim that I had cut down so ordered a replacement. Received this nad out it in the phone expecting to be up and running but no such luck.
Was on the phone to Tesco asking if the network was down and but no.
I then had asked if the phone was locked. It seems that some where along the line with on going insurance claim for the lost phone I have probably mixed them up and had the new phones IMEI blocked as well. the person on Tesco said not a problem that they can send a notice off to get the IMEI bar lifted.
5 days later and still no signal. Every thing else on the phone works, wifi (when hooked up) just no phone signal, Message on lock screen says "no signal - Tesco Mobile"
Is the IMEI still barred? Is 5 days too long for it to be lifted? I keep re- booting in the hope that it needs to be re-booted to re-set.
It has been rooted and running Cyanogen 10.1
Android version - 4.2.2
Kernel Version - 3.0.64-CM-G06b6513
I do not think that there is a problem with the root / mod as it was working fine before. Unless you can tell me other wise.
Thanks for any help advise?
Ian
You need to ask the network re the unblocking .
Are you asking a question about your SGS3 ??? I9305 or should you be in the S4 forums ???

Sorry, it's an S3 (4g model)
Called the network the other day and seems as though it has been unlocked to them but not to me. Have tried with an orange sim and same thing.
Will give them a call.
Thanks
I bought a handset a few years ago from eBay - HTC Touch Pro2 - which the owner had obviously reported lost. The IMEI was listed on the CEIR blacklist; both my Telco (T-Mobile) and the original Telco (Vodafone) said that removal of the blacklist was impossible as the bar was permanent.
Might be time to pester Tesco for a new handset if it's their fault!
