Hi
I want to use my Tilt as a wifi router, but I don't have a data plan. Is this possible?
I want to connect it to my laptop which is connected to the internet using ethernet cable and use internet on my work laptop.
Thanks.
the app WMWiFiRouter does just that
Thanks. I will give it a go.
On the website of that program, it says that you need both a data connection and internet connection.
Is that true? I don't have data.

I have a notebook, with MS Vista, and with mobile internet (pcmcia card). A tried to connect internet via s730 through mobile device center, but i can't.
I tried with WI-FI: connect to my notebook (ad hoc connection) but i can't use internet.
I tried it with free hotspot and it works.
I don't understand. What can i do?
How are you trying to get online?
You want the s730 do connect to your data network and share that? Or do you want to dial it into the internet (someone got that working on here) or are you connected through your notebook already and want to share that to your s730?

I've never been able to get this to work, I don't even know if you can or not.
I am confused.
Do you want your s730 to get on the Internet by connecting to your laptop? Can you just use a usb cable then you can use internet connection through laptop onto phone.
If I understand you correctly your laptop is what is online and you want it to pass the connection onto your phone through the wifi?
If thats the case that you just need to enable ICS on your laptop. It will be under your menu settings, I havnt messed around with vista's network settings so I cannot tell you quite what it looks like. Possibly a check box or a protocol to install. But once you install Internet Connection Sharing your computer should pass the connection out.

I have this working on my machine with my 730. Often you might need to repair the network connection to your phone from the network connection control panel as it sometimes loses it's IP address.
I also found that I needed to do some work in OneCare which I use as an AntiVirus and Firewall as this was blocking access to the Mobile Device Center.
hope this helps

Ok, i found this check box. ICS enabled, but something wrong, because the net don't working... but im tryin' again and again thanx!
I see, that the wi-fi connection is very unstable..loss the connect every minutes..
ps.: at least now it's working with usb..
So my laptops internal wireless card gave out, and while I don't mind using 3g.. wifi is a little faster, so is there a way to use that instead of 3g? I do not see it as an option in the internet sharing app.
thanks
hmm, i think ICS could do that.......... connect via wifi then connect ICS with USB or bluetooth..... hmm, i was thinking wmwifirouter could do it but i am not sure
already tried that. I think that wmwifirouter is for sharing 3g over wireless
simple..I do that all the time.
Turn off Data Connection
Turn On WiFi
Turn On Internet Sharing
..wah-la !
i tried that but under network connection wifi does not appear and it tries to connect to 3g?
I know we can simply connect my HTC via my wireless connection,
but is there a way, presumeably if we want to connect our phone
to the internet via PC. anyone care to share the tricks? thx.
I have free unlimited data plan with my Diamond, and know that if using USB cable and PC I can get online using the phone as a modem.
What I was hoping somebody could help me with is can I share that same data connection on my phone over it's wi-fi signal, hopefully so i can use it while out and out to get my Sony PSP online?
there's an app called wmwifirouter that does just this it sets your diamond up as a wireless router very easy to use !
Short answer is yes...
... but then also depends on who your provider is. http://www.WalkingHotSpot.com is great.
Hello,
I am using gueste rom with spica kernel, but I think it is independent of rom/kernel.
When I have internet on 3G on my o2x, I connect it to my laptop and use usbtethering. It works.
When I have internet on wifi on my o2x, I do the same thing but I don't have internet on my laptop.
Wireshark shows that my laptop send packet through my phone and I can ping my phone. But I can't ping website. However dns works (I can see dns packet). On my phone, internet works well.
I don't really know how does tethering work. Maybe it uses iptables/nat ? How can I have working tethering? Thank you.
What WiFi device is your phone connected to and why can't your laptop just connect direct to that? (I'm assuming the laptop has wifi). It's also possible to set your phone up as a WiFi Access Point, that would allow you to connect your laptop wirelessly. As I understand, however, if you use your phone as an Access Point, it won't be able to connect to the internet via WiFi - eg, you could be in field with good 3G, connect your laptop via WiFi to the phone and then surf via WiFi and out via the phone's 3G signal.
The author of Gueste does warn about using spica's "performance packs" for stability issues.

It is a public wifi emitted by a router. It is possible that the router blocks tethering?

I could, the reason is that my wifi signal is weak but at my door. It is just more convenient that my phone is near my door and connected to my laptop. Moreover, I'm studying networks and this issue arouses my curiosity

I know, the wifi hotspot works.
I'm between Internet providers at my house. I have the Tmobile tm-ac1900 router (the one made by asus).
Is it possible to somehow share my phones LTE connection thru the router to my LAN?
I thought that was an option of the router but I can't figure it out.
I hope this questions reads clearly.
Basic terms: house Internet is out, I want to use my phone LTE connection to supply Internet to my LAN through the router... So I would assume connect my phones wifi tethering somehow to the router as the WAN so it would supply Internet to my hardwired devices to the router.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe, pay your phone bill?
I would say no cause I don't see that on my router

You can try with a microUSB to USB cable. Under Setting / Tethering and Mobile Hotspot, there is the option to use USB tethering. I have never used USB tethering but it's worth a try. It all depends if the router can take an "internet" connection through USB...most common routers take a cable, RJ45 or RJ11 connection.
LOL... I'd actually have to pay my CABLE bill, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
I was so sure I saw that option somewhere, to be able to share your LTE/mobile data connection with your local network? Of course I didn't care when I read it (or mis-read it as it were) and of course I can't find it now.
I've been using a USB wifi adapter and mobile tethering which works fine, but only for a single machine at a time.... and now that I have unlimited data - I'd like to use it, at least until I pay my cable bill anyway
You need something like that
