One thing i noticed in HTC Shift is that after a usage of more then 4-5 hours without using external fan the system behave slow and most of the time after restart system operating system crash mean to say the windows damage itself. last time i tried to run the scan disk and found that there are 12 KB bad sector on the SSD. Is this may be the reason or i sould install the windows from scratch may fix this issue?
Thank you for all support.
Solution: Found a bunch of bad sectors in the first 10 GB and hence installed the windows in remaining 25 GB.

I can't figure out is why does my tilt start up after a soft reset with 75MB of free program memory and than by the end of the day it's down to about 59MB and running really slowly. Now I'm talking program memory not storage memory. I know how to close programs and I will have absolutely nothing running.
How I do re-free up the memory I am losing throughout the day? Is there a program or somthing I can download to see what is using up all the memory? I have pocket tools but that don't seem to do much there has to be a better way.
there's a program called Memmaid , can google it, and maybe clearing up your temporary interent files might free up some. Someone more advanced here might be able to give you better idea's i'm still new to the pda world.
I remember the good ole TyTN days when 59MB was more than I had available anytime LOL.
Funny how times change so quickly...
memmaid is just like pocket tools same type of program to free up ram but doesn't seem to accomplish a lot. And trust me my phone is all clear of temp files and internet files...
It has to be something actually running like in the background a program or something just like in windows xp that is using memory while running and doesn't shut down.
no clue huh?
Your phone having "only" 59 MB free isn't going to cause a slowdown. Something else it causing it besides a memory leak.
well there isn't anything really installed on my phone... vibra switch, pocket mechanic, some tcmp thing so i can view you tube and thats it.
There has to be a program that will show me what programs load up on startup and how much memory each program that is running is using in the background of the system. I can't believe no one else has ever wondered why there memory goes down from simple day in usage.
I've just always excepted the fact that I have to do a softreset from time to time. I haven't used it on my TilT but I've always used Oxios on my 8525 for memory management.
MemMaid really gives you a good view of what's running, and a lot of other things. give the 15 day trial a try. (I'm not associated with them; i just like their software.)
In taking a look using memmaid it looks like the shell32 process is what is using all the memory. At start up it's about 559kb by the end of the day its like 8-9MB. Is there anyway to get it to release the ram it's using, I tried ending the process completely suffice to say that ended with me doing a soft reset.
as someone else said 59 megs of ram is plenty.
It is the end of my day and I am at 56 megs of ram and there is absolutely no perceptible difference in performace from this morning when it was soft reset and I have a TON of stuff installed.
Sounds like you have something else going on.
If you did get MemMaid 2.0, it includes a util called Reclaim Ram.
According to the website it: "MemMaid uses a standard Windows Mobile procedure for claiming this memory. However some applications that are not designed to handle this procedure may not respond properly."
I usually see less than a meg recovered when I run it.
When you go online your phone is storing the cookies. Click the internet explorer button and go to menus. Then clear your history and your cookies! That will free probably half of the memory!
Bad news today :
Wanted to revert to ThaiHugo's light ROM.
Booted Windows 7, executed CustomRUU. After 1 minute, before
the real transfer of files begins, Shift BSOD in Windows 7.
No sweat, I thought, just reboot Windows 7, and hope that WinMo ROM wasn't touched yet.
However, even after removing the battery, Shift won't go to Bios, nor will it boot Vista. After power on, the HDD clicks, and that's it. If I wait long enough, the Fans will start blowing air.The power indicator is on, and the HDD led never flashes....
The WinMo part can be seen to work, albeit very rarely.
So now I'm stuck with an unbootable Windows 7, as it won't even do BIOS, and without WinMo.
Anyone else suffered from this and how did you recover ?
I'm glad it's a 2 year warranty, would have gone ballistic !

Did you try to downgrade to Vista and try to flash the original SnapVue?
Can't even get to the BIOS
I cannot try much anymore... device just won't boot to the bios. Only the powerled is working.
So if I take out the battery, and unpug the powercord, and wait 10 minutes, my device should at least show the bootscreen and BIOS, it doesn't.
Strangely, WinMo once in a while does fully boot, regardless the fact that the other side is "dead"
A very very peculiar problem, it seems that the BSOD while flashing a ROM has locked the EC controller and my Harddrive permanently.
I've been playing with computers for 30 years now, this one is ODD, really really ODD.
Frak, now that SD and BT will be out, my shift will be in for repairs.

Can you do a Fn>F10 to boot from a cd drive? If so, boot your Windows 7 from the cd to do a repair....That's what I had to do.
I have the xperia for almost 10 months. I have the original UK rom. Some of my problems are:
1) Τhe phone is over heating, not only when i charge it, but during the day too. In addition to this, when i charge it after about 5-6 hours the battery is dead without using the phone at all!! Sometimes, when i take it in my hands and is hot(without having used it in the meanwhile) i have to put it in the FRIDGE to drop the temperature!
2) It stucks all the time! It seems like it has very bad response times, because when i use the keyboard(virtual & hardware) it stucks so that i cannot write not even an sms properly. This happens with all apps too.(i have to wait a lot before they start running)
3)I have installed all the apps in the storage card but still the storage memory decreases!! I deleted opera's history, cookies and cache, also tried the "clear temp" app, but the storage memory still goes down and i get the annoying message of insufficient memory, but i don't know what else to delete to free up memory.
4)When i pull off the headphones the icon it is still there, and if i have a call they cannot hear me, neather can i. It is really distrurbing.
5) the camera app takes way too long to open and usually the images that i take are foggy and bad quality.
So, PLEASE GUYS TELL ME WAHT TO DO!!! I JUST CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE!! i feel that the 500 euros i gave didn't worth it, something that makes me reaaly mad!
1) I think put X1 in the FRIDGE is a big mistake. (At least what I know) If your phone is getting hot then you just put it in fridge, it will make dew inside the motherboard. So your X1 won't operate well.
2) Hardware keyboard in X1 is malfacturing. Many X1 keyboard active users complained it. About virtual kb is usually caused by third party application. Maybe for software issue, you may hardreset it, and install less applications. SESC will repair the Hard Kb issue.
3)As I know, not all of application installed to Storage Card means they only use the Storage Card. Sometimes, they also need to install some part of the application dll or bla bla bla to internal memory to make them run. And of course, the leave footage memory.
4&5)Hmmm, it may relate to point 1) about putting your X1 in fridge
My advice, 1st Hardreset (Don't forget backup important information: using Active Sync or PIM Backup), then if the problem still continues (since you have X1 with original SPL and ROM, bring it to SESC, hope they'll fix it)
Correct me if I am wrong.
So I installed Ubuntu 10.10 onto my laptop which was running Windows 7, I partioned about 200 GB of my hard drive to it. But I just never used it so I decided to uninstall it, but I never re-partioned it's hard drive space for Windows. I've been running my laptop for about a week with no problems on Windows 7.
Last night my computer's battery died and when I tried to boot all I got was some black screen saying "error: no such parition" "grub rescue>"
Anyone know how I can get back to Windows and prevent this from happening again?! Please help

1) Insert windows 7 CD or USB stick (something bootable)
2) Select your region and language
3) Pick repair at bottom left of the screen, and it should detect the issue and fix the boot sector. If not, pick "Startup repair". Now reboot and it should be fixed
You probably came across this question before, and if you have htc one you will probably have the same problem..
I looked into a lot of threads but none found the answer.
When i go to storage, "other" is occupying 7gb of space.. That's pretty insane considering from other threads I saw it's only system or software os space and there is no way to look into it and find out what it is. I have 1 picture below and on the far left it says I have 25gb of storage.. Completely ignores those 7 other go cause I have a 32gb phone.
Some say it may be backup information, stuff you deleted and it stays there so if you need it back you can access it.
Is there any way to fix it? Without whiping everything cause that's proven to only decreases the size a bit. It's only getting bigger, I hope I can get rid of a big part of it so I can have more space. I'm not rooted.

Ok so your phone have a memory chip of 32gb.
Its divided in 37 different partitions.
Partitions 1 to 34 are reserved for the firmware (bootloader, secondary bootloader, recovery, radio, kernel, mfg, misc, drivers and some more).
partition 35 is the system
partition 36 is the cache
partition 37 is your user data partition and is composed of the remained space.
Available user memory is +/- 25gb for everyone.
That's not good.. So there's no way I can make that size smaller?
