I did the 2.17 upgrade tonight, proceeded to install my old software, ran into problems with a persistent "notification" that displayed nothing when I clicked the notification button...so I've uninstalled almost everything - got right of the notification issue - and I'm planning to get some sleep now before reloading.
BUT...in the meantime, I'm down to a pretty barebones machine now. A few things left, including:
- resco explorer & registry editor
- MemMaid
- OpenNETCF SDF 1.4
- MS Voice Command
- Wizard Registry Tweaks by xelencin
- Total Commander
(last two from the ROM)
So...as I have the Settings / System / Remove Programs window open, I can see the Cellular signal strength icon in the title bar, and in the upper right corner, the "ok".
As soon as I return to the home page, right half-inch of the title appears to be painted over with the same blue as the title bar itself -- from the right edge over to about half way through the cellular signal strenth icon.
Any ideas about this???
I have this same problem and the only things i have installed are:
- OpenNETCF SDF 1.4
- Wizard Registry Tweaks by xelencin
And I mean, those are the only things i have installed. My guess is that the registry wizard is having problems with the new battery icon thats now on the title bar after upgrading to the new i-mate rom

Try clearing the option to show time, or show date and time, on the taskbar in the Registry Wizard. That should solve it.

Thanks -- I'll have to try reinstalling Registry Wizard for that (unless you know what particular key it changed? Maybe I can find it in the forum...). I had uninstalled Registry Wizard while trying to debug my setup, because of seeing the "Exception" warning every time I ran it..although it *seemed* ok after click "ok" on the warning. I suspect something was wonky with the initial install of it, since I tried it first (accidentally) without opennetcf, got a warning that it was needed, then proceeded to install opennetcf, after which Registry Wizard *seemed* ok....sort of.
I'll try reinstalling Registry Wizard and seeing if it works now.

Messier and messier. Although I *thought* I had uninstalled Registry Wizard, something must be left behind...an attempt to reinstall gave me an error to the effect that a config file couldn't be opened. Looking through directories and trying to make sense of the setup log. I'd like to fix this if possible...if not, I guess I'll just reflash and start from scratch, although I'd really like to get to the point where I can undo individual changes to the system rather than having to resort to starting from scartch each time.
Try this:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Key: TBOpt (dWord)
Value = 0 (show nothing)
Other values:
1=Time
2=Date
3=Time and date
Also, by the way, no need to reflash in the future. Just Clear Storage.

I had found that in the WM5_Tweaks_Other thread and that's the way it's set now (and I just verified after doing a soft reset). Right next to it, I'm seeing a value "ShowTitleBarClock" set to "1". Going to try turning this off and seeing what it looks like. I've browsed the registry pretty deeply, and don't see too many other things that appear to be related (but I know these can be pretty obscure).
I also verified that it's nothing with a particular skin. I switched, for example, to "guava bubbles", and oddly enough, the title bar speaker icon and right half of the signal strength icon show up - for about a second, before whatever it is obscuring them appears. Also - this only seems to be happening on the today screen. Rebooting now...
edited 11:18am EST -
After making the change, soft resetting and verifying that the change is actually in the registry, I still see this (sorry for picture quality - but I think it shows what's masked - right side of signal strength icon, and the entire vol/speaker icon:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

}
btw: thanks re: "clear data" tip - I hadn't quite got to the point where I had reflashed, but I'm close! If it gets to that, I'll clear data instead - thx.

I had set it to 0 (zero).
The weird behavior was most visible in the moments after change themes (using WM's own facility for that). As I mentioned above, switching from default, for example, to "guava bubbles" (built into WM5 distribution), I would see a complete normal title bar - for about a second or two, and then something would apparently be written over it in the same color as the title bar. In the picture, you can see that whatever it is only half covers the signal strength icon. If I let the phone site quietly and watch, I can see a momentary blink - as if the screen is getting repainted, and this "mask" is getting refreshed on top of the title bar.
I finally gave up trying to fix this, although I'd love to know what it is (was). Besides this weird painting problem, nothing I did seemed to get Registry Wizard to install properly again. I continued to get the "exception" warning on startup - so something apparently still wasn't kosher, even though I pulled out all the dirs, files and reg entries I could find that seemed related, and also removed opennetcf. I wish WM5 uninstall would actually do a more thorough job!
I finally did a "clear data" and all looks correct once again -- except that I have to slog through reinstalling all my apps -- and I'm HOPING that I don't scrag things again in the process.
Are there any new known app incompatibilities with this version vs the shipping TMo version? For example - the notification issue was experiencing disappeared once I uninstalled iLauncher -- but I don't know if that means anything, since the install itself might have been messed up. I've got Wisbar 2.6 installed and humming along happily, and I'm about to install:
- PocketBreeze
- ContactBreeze
- iLauncher
- MemMaid
- OpenNETCF
- RegistryWizard (should I?)
- PocketZenPhone
- MS Voice Command
- Resco Explorer & Reg Editor
- some Juni skins
BTW: as an aside - WiFi connect is SO fast with this new load! I've got a Belkin "pre-N" setup with WPA/TKIP, and this found it instantly when I turned on WiFi, connected right away, and a little speed test I ran via DSLReports showed me getting about 1100Kbps down into the MDA. Sweet!
More later as I reinstall my apps one at a time... keep your fingers crossed for me -- or if you see something incompatible in my list, please let me know!!!
thx again for everyone's help with this, and for the 2.17 ROM installer in the first place - good stuff!
btw - Wish I could edit the "date" bar in the Today screen, but I can live with that - and may simply turn it off, since I've got Wisbar Adv 2 installed, showing the date and time in the title bar -- only missing the word "Saturday" if I turn off the Today "date bar".
well, that might've been the problem - should be set to 1, 2 or 3 - never 0

OK...can't argue that, just surprised after having read other posts here (and elsewhere as follows:
Open the PPC registry and look for the following key
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Add a D_WORD Value TBOpt and make it equal to 3.
0 - NO time displayed
1 - only Time is displayed
2 - only Date is displayed
3 - Date & Time displayed

I'm going to try not touching it by hand right now. Instead, I'll be installing my apps one by one, soft resetting in between and seeing exactly what works and what doesn't.

Mine is set to 1 with no problem. Sorry I wasn't more clear.
Zeboxx. What problem does setting to 0 cause?
Well, normally if TBOpt is set to zero, the time will disappear from the task bar, and you may be left with a rectangle obscuring icons (which slide to the right as the time is now gone). This is on pre-AKU2 ROMs. Not sure what happens with it on AKU2 ROMs as they poked at the time thing on the taskbar there in horrible ways anyway %) And, of course, if you use some taskbar overlay thing like wisbar advance, then that whole TBOpt thing doesn't apply anyway.

Wow...this "rectangle obscuring icons that slid to the right" sounds exactly like what I was seeing in the WM5 title bar on the today screen.
Does the obscuring rectangle obediantly disappear when you change TBopt back to a non-zero value? (not that this matters for moment for me, since I started over and am gradually reinstalling everything now)
it should, yes. Again, I don't know how it reacts with AKU2 exactly - with AKU2, on the Today screen, there's a big fat battery meter instead of the clock anyway; but it should still apply to the clock when on other screens.
Edit: let me take a few screenshots for your consideration -_-
See attachment for examples of the TBOpt setting.
Note that the SSDte format in use is
Code:
"ddd/d "
The spaces at the end are to make sure that the OK/Close rect doesn't overlap with the date.
It's easy to see that with a value of '0', a rectangle gets placed over the icons (which slide to the right as the time/date is gone), obscuring them entirely or partially.
Also, with a value of '2', there's a small vertical bar present - not sure what the deal is with that
I normally use the value '3' so that both date and time are present.

Excellent! Your picture on the left is exactly what I was seeing -- great explanation too. Also found the detailed code explanation on the microsoft site, although I probably won't be messing with it, since Wisbar Adv takes over title bar formatting. But this is great to know. Amazing, though, the way MS implemented this -- sure feels like a hack job placing an obscuring rectangle on TOP of the title bar. That's the kind of trick we used to play when we were first experimenting with skinning Windows apps years ago on the pc...Txh again for taking the time to detail it out.

I would like to use contactbreeze (v 1.2.0.1) in full screen mode.
This is what happens:
As you can see the contact on top of the list is not visible because the top bar is overlapping it.

Do you have any suggestions for me ?

Hi all,
I recently added a battery bar program called Batti2.1. It is a really great program and i like it a lot. There is, however, one small bug...
When using the program it remaps the Calendar soft key to "Notification". Rather it does not remap it but always displays the "Notification" word. I guess this is so because it gives me a setting asking me if i want the battery indicator in the top bar (which is what i want). When i click on the notification icon it gives me detail about the battery etc. When i am done and click on hide, it goes back to saying "Notification".
When i recieve an sms or missed call, it then resets the soft key back to the original "Calender" and does not come up with the "Notification" key i usually get when i have a missed call or sms notification.
Is there a registry setting to disable the batti program's notification icon or am i stuck with this for good (so long as i have the program installed)??
Has anybody else used this program? Had this same problem? It is a really good piece of software and does not affect anything else.
Can anybody help please. I have included screenshots and attached the batti file incase anyone is interested in looking at this useful program.
yep...that happens...i remember when i used that program...get...um...damn i cant remember the name of the program i used..

Wow... that is annoying. Nice program, but I see your dilemma.
Whenever there's a notification (such as wi-fi detected), the left soft key is remapped to it. PocketPlayer does that on mine. I don't mind because I can use the today screen plugin to access the calendar.
Use VistaHide battery gauge instead.
Thanks to those who replied.
Tinkering around with the program i discovered a solution. In settings option set the following settings:
<PLEASE SEE IMAGE CAPTURE NUMBER 3 IN THE ATTACHMENTS>
I then click ok and hide the diolog box (hide button). The notifiaction and icon on the top bar are gone. However, there is a small bar right on the top of the top bar with graduations along it. This is the battery bar and each graduation represents 5%. When you tap this bar once, the notification box comes up and displays all the info. When you tap on hide, it all goes away. No more remapping.
Thanks to those who tried to help out.

Dose it actually work fine on the X1? i was reading through the site and it mentioned about battery drain. Has anyone tried this?
Does anyone know of a way to do this without the use of third party software? A registry hack would the ideal solution
registry change for date and time on taskbar
For registry change go to:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Make a DWord key here named TBOpt
give the key a value:
0 for NO date AND Time
1 for ONLY Time
2 for ONLY Date
3 for BOTH Date AND Time
To change Date format go to:
HKLM\nls\override
under SSDte change date format to how you would like to see it
d=1
dd=01
ddd=mon
dddd=Monday
M=1
MM=01
MMM=Nov
MMMM=November
yy=08
yyyy=2008
you can basically use any combination I use for example ddd dd MMM and included an extra space there,
so that the last character doesn't get hidden by the ok button.
Hope this helps,
Mark.
For some reason I can't change the registry on my X1.
Got the app MobileRegistryEditor but when changing or adding a value it prompts me that the access is denied..
Any way to bypass this?

Thank you for this post, but this gets rid of the battery status and replaces it with the clock and time or if you leave the battery symbol there, then the date and time jus overlaps the with the battery bar. Is there something else we can do to show clock, date and battery?
I always use batti for that, I get a small 2px bar on top of the screen with the % of battery remaining.
works well in the xperia
I use spb pocket plus,it's really great
Hi,
I've searched and found the way of changing fonts in the pop-up menu of my HTC Diamond.
However, the selections fonts (the similar to V shapes and the arrows for navigation in the pop up menu) are still in big size... does anyone know how to edit their size as well?
Thanks a lot!
Anyone pls?
Unfortunatelly I have the same problem. I want to have a perfectly clean WM 6.1 system, fully stylus-operated. I have already disabled all the "garbage" like TochFlo etc., I have decreased the pop-up menu font size (using Schap's Adv Config Tool, but that can be easily done with many other progs like SK-Tools etc.) but I still cannot do anything about those stupid large "arrows" and "V-signs" (like in the checkbox list). They remain the same big size, as it was before decreasing the pop-up menu font.
Really nobody knows how to decrease their size as well???
Just a quick suggestion, go to settings, system and screen. Then go to text size, change it down by one nouch. See if that helps
Unfortunatelly no - the popup menu font remains the same (but that I know how to controll over SK-Tools) and also the arrows/v-signs remain the same - very large that is
advanced config will let you change the size of the font in the popup window

Performance on Rhodium
[EDIT]
I am using the full version now, which shas an option to disable the original start menu, which saves alot of memory.
Performance is great on the Rhodium
[/EDIT]
I wanted to try it on the Tilt 2, because it is a memory starved device.
There is no memory advantage to using this over the normal start menu.
It looks nice, and the recent program list is great.
But for the Rhhodium, memory is critical, so I will go back to using the Panel Stat menu cooked into Energy ROMs.
It would be nice if the free version would have had the graphic transitions when opening folders. It looked cool on the demo that was done on an HD2, but, other devices, such as my Tilt 2 or my Fuze, are slower.
I would want to see that performance before purchasing. If I could see that I would consider purchasing it for my Fuze.
But, as far as the memory usage. I can't use it with my Tilt 2. It consumes more memory than having the original start menu.
The full version can disable the original start menu, so you can spare approx 30 Mo in RAM.
The demo was done on an HD (older than Tilt2) and no problems. I think it will be smooth for both (Tilt2 and Fuze), but I'm not sure of that!
I can't create a demo version with graphic transitions, too much work...
As you are a "productive and contributing member", I can give you a serial... Send me a PM if you are interested!

Thanks.
While testing the full paid version, I am very impressed.
I have more memory available than before, when I was using the Panel Start menu available in Energy Roms.
This start menu is great.
Starts faster.
More responsive.
Better transitioning graphics.
Graphics are very smooth on my Tilt 2.
And the most recent program feature is really nice to have.
This is definitely worth the money.
Thanks for this feedback
WinStart with CHT Softkeys
First of all very nice!!
I purchased the full version at your referenced site.
I am having a problem. I use CHT 2.0 on my NRGZ28 ROM, and I use the CHT Softkeys. I cannot get WinStart to pull up the start menu using the "StartMenu" CHT softkey. If I disable the CHT softkeys, the the normal StartMenu icon works fine.
Within CHT SoftKeys, there are ways to set key assignments:
"Run path" which prompts me to enter an application to run. WinStart is not a listed application.
"Command Line" which prompts me to "enter command line parameters". I don't know what to do here?
Is there a way you can get this to work with the CHT SoftKeys?
I have CHT2.0 too, but I never used the SoftKeys...
I take a look and come back to tell you how do this.
WinStart with XDA_UC
Thank you...while waiting...I'll ask another question.
I flash ROM's a lot when new versions come out. I use XDA_UC to install my various apps that I use. WinStart will DEFINITELY be one.
My question: On a fresh install with a new ROM, is there a registry key or something that I should install along with the cab to get the initial "fresh-install" parameters - username/password information - automatically applied?
OK, so it's not as easy as I thought... I try something but it work only the first time... What I do :
In HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila
>Set CHT.Softkeys.KeyCustom1.Path to: \Program Files\winstart\winstart.exe (no quotes or anything else)
In CHT editor, set icon1 to custom1... But as said before this will work only the first time.
I work on this and in a few days (I hope 24h), I will post a new version.
For the second question, you will have to save these two values :
HKLM/Software/Manila_WinStart/licenceKey and HKLM/Software/Manila_WinStart/password.
You can also export the entire HKLM/Software/Manila_WinStart/ key to save your settings too... If this is not an option for you, tell me via PM, I will send you a patcher...

Hello - I appear to have the same issue as WMG316. After installation and reboot. I can go to \Program Files\WinStart\ and run ConfigWinstart.exe. I select DEBUG, Stop Service, and then Start Service, Back, Save. At this point the Hard and Softkeys work properly until the next reboot. I have not put any WinStart in my Startup folder.
I hope this helps get closer to a long-term solution. I really like this app and it is still worth the money.

How to Backup "Renamed Icons"
Another question. I have renamed a few of the icons in the start menu. I cannot locate where these changes are saved. Is there a way to backup these settings for subsequent ROM flashes?
wmg316, you can export registry key HKLM-Security-Shell-Startinfo-Start , which contains data about all links: their position, icon, name & visibility..
Start Menu Hardware Key on Rhodium
Maybe a bug?
Since disabling the CHT SoftKeys I have had no problem initiating the Start Menu with the default soft key. I am still in hopes that you will fix that issue though!
My problem...when I try to use the hardware key start menu on the Tilt 2 (Rhodium) it does not work.
I can get it to work by following these steps:
Use Start Menu soft key to go to Start Menu
Select Menu, Options
At this point the option to "Hook the windows hardware key" is checked...I uncheck this...then check it again and select save
After this process, the hardware key works.
After a soft reset, the hardware key does not work and I have to go through the aforementioned steps to get it to work again.
Yes,I think this problem is the same as CHT softkey (they emulate an hardware keydown).
So I think in a few hours these two bugs will be corrected !
The problem is now solved...
I work on an option to save/restore the settings so I will change the version number of first post when finished.
For now you can install the attached file which correct the bug but don't include the option to save/restore settings...

The only other minor cosmetic thing I have noticed is that when you first open the program, it leaves some odd artifacts on the screen as you run it the first time. For example, after a soft reset, the first time I open the menu, I can't see my task bar on top, I see a part of my CHT hometab. Once I close it, it works great for all other openings.
Also, when you click on a program, the animation works fines to zoom the icon at me, but once it is done, the screen briefly jumps back to the start menu background showing me just the icon I clicked on until the program actually opens.
Like I said, purely cosmetic, but I figured I would mention them. Again, thanks a ton for the program, it is by far and away the best start menu I have tried. Light years ahead of even the default WM one.
