I was just reading something about HTC Sense for the Android phone HTC Hero on Tweakers.
There it is stated that

In theory we should be able to bring it to the Blackstone and cook it in some of the ROMs here. Who knows more about Sense and the possibility of porting Sense to HTC Blackstone?

Can you point to the source of your statement. It seems HTC's marketing executive Michael Wang states it is not only for Android, which would imply that it might be for Windows Mobile as well.

It was on MobileBurn i think, they wanted to confirm the information and were told that it won't appear on Windows Mobile. Well there is no official statement yet anyway, only half cooked statements.
I ordered the tp2 and are a owner of the blackstone to, and after i saw the interface and what android is capable of, i decided to write a mail to htc, and i got a reply that the new interface will not come to tp2. But there will be a wm 6.5 update with tf3d for the tp2. and its very unlikley it will come to the blackstone i think, if it comes it will be unofficially. myself has canceled my tp2 and will wait some more and see what will come out hero will come in two flavors, one with qwerty and one without (hero). And maybe later some more phones, What i am wondering is would it be easier to run winmo 6.1 on an android phone or is it just as hard to get it as it is to get android on the windows phone?

I've gone to Mobile Burn, and there is no such statement, that it would not be coming to Windows Mobile, in fact there is no mention of Windows Mobile in the article at all. It mentioned it wouldn't come to T mobile phones due to licensing restrictions and R&D costs.

Sorry for taking so long to respond, i had to go throught my browsing history.
Here is where i read it: http://www.intomobile.com/2009/06/24/htc-sense-ui-taking-android-to-the-next-level.html
But to tell the truth, i also searched Mobile Burn and didn't find any statement.
There are screenshots of sense on windows mobile. Its not the same as the android version but rather an update of the rhodium tf3d
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529650&highlight=sense
here, first pic.
Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jjCNIZcM5s found a video on the topix thread. It seems to be running on a blackstone too which is nice. First impressions are that you never seen windows mobile AT ALL so that's no more ugly all settings tabs. Seems a bit laggy, but surely, after a good cook (im looking at kwbr ) gets their hands on it, i think itll be just as fast as manilla 2.0
@ask768 yeah not interested in tf3d v2.5...Sense looks way better.
reading the actual HTC press release, found this
HTC Sense
Built on a culture of innovation and a passion to enhance peoples lives, HTC shapes the mobile experience around the individual. Debuting on the HTC Hero and available on all new HTC devices moving forward, Sense delivers on three basic principles: Make it Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected

So i think it is safe to say Sense UI should be coming to Windows Mobile.

actually it IS a HD in a clear crystal case its running on but its NOTSense its Manilla (TF3D) version 2.5
and there are already ROMs on the forum trialling it...but its still rather buggy..i tried Miri's ROM
Manila 2.5 IS Sense!
“HTC never indicated that the new UI would be available on WinMo – it won’t be, in fact. The confusion comes from some sites not getting their facts straight. HTC said that TouchFLO 3D was part of Sense. Sense is *already* on WinMo.
The fact that HTC has not given the new UI on the Hero a proper name has led people to assuming that Sense refers only to the UI on the Hero, which is not the case. In any case, HTC caused the confusion by not giving the new UI a real name it could refer to. Sense is merely a philosophy, not an actual user interface.
Make no mistake, TouchFLO 3D is staying on WinMo devices, and the new, unnamed UI is what HTC will be using for Android devices that lack the "with Google" branding.

Sense = Android
Manila = Windows Mobile
Manila 2.5 != Sense
(Sense = Cool)
Wrong.
Sense = the name for the concept/philosophy behind all HTC interfaces
unnamed = HTC's Android interface
Manila = HTC's WM interface
==> Both Manila and HTC's Android interface are Sense.
2late, everybody is refering to sense when they talk about the new android ui.
all the rest is manila.
That's wrong nevertheless, and it's causing confusion.
Manila 2.5 is part of Sense and Manila will stay on Windows Mobile. The interface that HTC has programmed for Android won't come to Windows Mobile but Manila will evolve and eventually become more like that Android interface in the future.

Hi guys,
today I talked to an HTC guy on the CeBIT convention in Hannover. I asked him about the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 for the Diamond 1 and he said that he is sure it will come as an update for the Diamond aswell. Diamond 2 will get the update, too. I tested the Diamond 2 today and I must say: AWESOME!!! That thing is so extremely fast in TouchFlo 3D. I had my Diamond 1 in one hand and the Diamond 2 in the other and now I could throw away my Diamond The new Menu for programs is nice, too. All together the Diamond 2 is much better than the Diamond and I think I will sell my Diamond 1 and buy the Diamond 2.
Greetz Frozen-GPU
did you tell him about the release date of diamond2 ?
is it on march or april ?
In fact he couldn't give me a final answer on this I guess he was not the right one to answer the question Only a salesman i think. But in my opinion it's worth waiting for Touch Diamond 2, no matter if it'll be released this or next month. There was another guy buggin' him with stupid questions about connecting HTC devices over bluetooth to his car hands free, so I left without asking more questions...
I mean no disrespect to you, but I really hope that you found the only (IMHO) honest and knowledgeable telephone company salesperson.
That in itself would be an awesome discovery, much more incredible than the 6.5 upgrade for the Diamond
That could be true...
Maybe I better wrote another title for this topic: "Diamond 2 - WOW! Windows Mobile 6.5 on Diamond 1: Very possible!"
Salesmen are really clever, but not in giving technical information
i hope this is true because there are rumors poping up that wm6.5 will only be avaiable for phones with a hardware windows start button
WIMO 6.5 on Diamond 1 not likely
The word from Microsoft is that ONLY the phones with Windows button will ever be supported as a Windows Mobile 6.5 platform. I'd say that minimizes the chance that HTC will take the time and money to develop a 6.5 rom for an old device that will probably be end of life soon.
yet tested our beloved device with a pre wm6.5 and it's too much sloooow and crappy too
I think wm6.5 needs more ram, perhaps could be sane on diamond2 but right now isn't ready to be used on diamond1
Start button?
i don't see why MS is saying it HAS to have a start button. the Diamond had 9 hardware buttons (if the whole pad is broken down into all its functions) i'm sure that one of those buttons could be allocated for that use

I totally agree with that Put a Windows Logo sticker over the "Home" Hardwarebutton and voila ^^
I have to admit I'm a bit puzzled as to why this is a stumbling block. WinMo 6.5 will presumably be a whole new ROM and I imagine would have a few chefs cooking with it. We've seen that it will work on Diamond, it should be simple enough to map a single button to make it work.
Shouldn't it?
Winmo 6.5 on Diamond...
not sure if I am toe-stepping, or pointing out what everyone already know, but there's a winmo 6.5 beta for the diamond here ->

Yeah Windows Mobile 6.5 BETA has been released from several cookers, but I was talking about native support for WM6.5 on the HTC Touch Diamond. Even if HTC won't update the Diamond, the cookers here will release it for us, that's for sure But it would be nice if HTC gives an official update for the Diamond 1.

I think it is unlikely: no windows start key (which is not needed of course, but it is an advertising trick from microsoft, which imho is fearing the lack of image associated to WinMo compared to the new kids in town (android, OSX, WebOS), and is trying to get smartphone manufacturer to provide some free advertising - equivalent to "Windows Vista compatible" on the PC peripherals for example), so probably HTC will not get the OK from Microsoft on this one. Morerover, it is not sure HTC would do it even if they could (except maybe for the touch HD): Diamond2 and Pro2 will be out before WinMo6.5, so upgrading only the latest model is a way to force the previous ones (TD1/TP1) into obsolescence...especially as the specs are not so different, so any differentiation is good to get...
TouchHD successor seems further away, possibly after the release of the first 6.5 devices, or the 6.5 upgrade for TD2/TP2...so I guess official touch HD upgrade is maybe possible...
There's not going to be an update for "old Ht'c like de Touch Diamond, Touch Pro and Touch HD...
I've tried both and got a question :
Why the interface of miri's WM6.5 is worse than Dutty's ? Isn't WM6.5 more latest than WM6.1 ?

Which interface are you talking about?
I do prefer WinMo 6.5 interface over 6.1.
There are two main changes (visual wisse) on WinMo 6.5 which is the main screen where you have Titanium and the start menu.
On WinMo 6.5 things tend to be more finger friendly than in WinMo 6.1.
As I said before, I do prefer how things are going from 6.1 to 6.5.....
Duttys uses HTC components and they've made an effort to make everything more finger friendly. They've been at it a while, we're currently @ version 3. A good effort i must say Manilla especially the newer versions w/ the new start menu are truly a pleasure to use and have made a considerable difference to the overall experience of the Touch HD.
It's biggest flaw i feel personally is that HTC didn't think to make Manilla customizable at even the basic level of allowing backgrounds on all the level 0 tabs.
Miri's wm 6.5 is straight from Microsoft, who are just now attempting to make the OS more finger friendly and though its newer it is sadly not as refined or cohesive. If we could get a 6.5 rom w/ the new manilla minus the new htc start menu, but with htc notifications & menus, htc dialer, htc calculator ( lets just say all the htc apps) we'd have a really refined looking rom.

Why is a modern VW Beetle slower then an old Porsche? Because they are different cars...
Main difference :
Duttys 6.1: Uses latest, finger friendly HTC Touch Flo software. HTC sell phones. So they (kind of) care about the customer experience.
6.5: By Microsoft. The Windows mobile team totally lost the plot a few years ago lost touch with modern smartphone interface design. 6.5 is a deperate stop-gap until they get 7 out. I think that's enough said, isn't it ?
I tested almost all ROM's from here and the one i found with not so many bugs is that from Laurentius26.
Miri's ROM it's nice but have many bugs , last version i try it's V4 Premium and as you see in his post have many bugs but it's faster (33-35%)
That from Laurentius26 it's not so fast (40-45%) but doesn't have so many bugs so untill miri will improve his version i'll stay and old wwe 6.1
I think this thread should be closed. You are comparing two different operating systems so they are not the same and to put them into a comparison is doing any thing good for either cook.

And Laurentius26 still have bug on ringtone, you can not change ringtone.

well, unfortunately what he told you is just his opinion, and I think he is wrong. I think it's actually the other way around. TouchFlow was a sort of temporary fix by HTC to bring up a GUI that can compete with Iphone until MS has their own solution. With 6.5 it's not necessary anymore. The newer 6.5 versions such as Miri's V5 easily beat TouchFlo and whatever 6.1 has to offer. The new 6.5 GUI is not a "curtain" like TF, covering up something, but a genuine new interface. I don't even load the manila with TouchFlo anymore, the generic 6.5 GUI is clearly better.

Perhaps the chef names should be removed as roms based on 6.1 with Manila v3 are only subtly different and the same goes for 6.5 roms (IN MY OPINION...)
It is interesting to compare experiences side by side.
I know it is quite shallow but although I like Titanium it doesn't have the same wow factor as v3 Manila does and on a day to day basis, I don't really need to go much deeper.
I also feel that 6.1 has so much support here that I can revive the wow factor with regularity.
6.5 will continue to be installed every couple of weeks though

...you really thought that HTC would do that!? If you thought that you were a dreamer! They like to sell new phones and not an old phone like the Kaiser
Windows Mobile 6.5 works on QVGA?
Out of interest, are any of the devices that will 'officially' be running Windows Mobile 6.5 QVGA? From what I see, the versions of 6.5 cooked into ROMS here are tweaked to fit on the smaller 320x240 screen - but the Touch Diamond 2 and Pro 2 are both WVGA devices with an 800x460 screen resolution aren't they?
If the 'proper' version of 6.5 is designed to work on VGA devices or better only, it's not surprising that HTC aren't planning on offering upgrades to older devices that don't support the higher resolutions. Sure, it can be made to work on older handsets - but not in the way Microsoft probably envisioned for their new release...
I might be wrong and I have my asbestos "flame-proof" jacket on, so I'm ready for the backlash
Actually, Microsoft has said that it will allow official upgrades on current 6.1 devices as long as they have a 400mhz processor and 128mb ram (plus the windows start key). The Kaiser meets all of those requirements, so it is eligible for an upgrade, but that would be at the discretion of HTC/carriers. I doubt that we will ever see an official upgrade due to the age of the Kaiser, but you never know.
More importantly, though, is whether it even matters. Do we even need an official 6.5 for the Kaiser to build off of, or can we do an equal/better job with the dumped 6.5 roms already being ported to our phone? I guess that would be a question I would put to our chefs out there.
Would it really be an 'upgrade' though if HTC provided it?
If the HTC Official WWE WM 6.1 'upgrade' for the TyTN II is anything to go by, I'd run a mile from any HTC provided WM 6.5 release for the TyTN II anyway. Apart from the fact there were so many bugs in the official WM 6.1 upgrade when compared to the relatively stable WM 6.0, it's clear from HTCs continual refusal to provide full (not partial) graphics driver support for even much newer devices, that they don't learn lessons from the past (or if they do, they don't act on them).
Given the TyTN IIs age now, I suspect if there was a further upgrade to come even the apprentice programmers' time would be considered to valuable for such a task and GPS, graphics performance and things like screen flashes when coming out of standby (all things still not fixed after nearly a year since the first WM 6.1 upgrade was released) would take a very low priority. I could be proven wrong but I don't have much faith that the HTC leopard would change its spots

I hope people don't misinterpret what I wrote, I believe the TyTN II was groundbreaking in its day and it certainly offered the right combination of features that other devices didn't have together in the one package. The problem is that there are a number of inexactitudes when comparing the actual device with all the advertising that was out for the device when first released (what I relied on for my purchase decision). Both advertiising from HTC and from Qualcomm the chip maker. Since then I've seen no indication that HTC is interested in maximising all the potential in this device to try and live up to those advertising claims and if anything their UK released ROM upgrade for my device actualy makes it worse. It's a sad state of affairs where a buggy 'upgrade' still hasn't been fixed nearly a year later and I'm fed up with sending letters to HTC which aren't listened to (not to mention the thousands of online petition signatories requesting full driver support for the embedded hardware actually on the device).
As someone who has worked as a computer technician I can tell you it is truely scandalous to release a product complete with an OS that doesn't have full driver support for embedded graphics acceleration and any full sized PC provider would not get away with it. Not only then but also the fact they haven't since come along with an update to address these concerns - hence my lack of faith in this company.
I would assume HTC's refusal to release system drivers would have to do with NDA's they signed with the various component manufacturers. I'm also relatively new to the world of XDA (but not winmo), so I would assume that this topic has been discussed to death on this site before.
@Flying Kiwi: I only had the Hermes for three weeks before I found a kickin deal on a Kaiser, but I have to agree it was a good phone. However, the upgrade to the Kaiser from the Hermes was worth the little extra I paid, if only for the gps and increased ram.
Not to get off topic, but does anyone else find Age of Empires to be incredibly addictive on a PDA?
anyone seen this yet?
i have and it looks tasty
if u havent check it out here

any thoughts on this being ported to a winmo HD?
because it looks so much nicer than touch flo?
post your thoughts people.
My thought is that it will not be ported. It's running on android, and uses android interfaces to communicate with the device.
We could only dream that at some point our blackstones will be able to run android.. These new android phones are starting to make me regret ever getting the HD

According to the HTC press release, HTC Sense will appear on ALL future HTC phones. This should mean that we will see it on Windows Mobile phones soon. Maybe then we will see it ported to the Blackstone.

Yeah, I'm a sinner, sorry
bad bad bad abats!
/enjoys blackstone again
Microsoft is so slow on moving with things
Android really looks like taking off. the only thing that prevented me from going android is that it seemed very bandwidth heavy. now seeing hero and android apps ahhh.. what are they doing at microsoft!! come on guys make it easy for me to develop apps!!! get your marketplace going !! come one balmer get onto a stage and do a crazy and get us excited about windows mobile again. wm6.5 is such a cop out.
but why do all android phones have a huge chin! thats another thing letting them down in my opinion, that and that so far they are only on t mobile and voda in the uk......No thanks!

yepp....windows mobile is dying slowly That why my Blackstone is my last WiMo device...iPhone and Android have a bright future...WiMo doesn't.
after more looking this new UI is so nice, widgets and everything, better contacts management and stuff. i want i want i want! please be on a winmo device so it can be ported
android porting to HD is being worked on.. lets keep our fingers crossed
HTC SENSE, looks interesting Let's wait for new cooked rom
lol, maybe chefs here can cook up something =)
Now THAT'S some serious ui!!
Can't wait till some xda-blackstone-chef gets his hands on this one...
it is coming to Windows Mobile accoring to this...http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=5239
crosses fingers for an HD port!
I have to say that this HTC Sense UI looks great and seems to be very user friendly. I believe that sooner or later we will have "Sense" on ours Blackstones Patience...
the htc hero version can't be portet...even if android is running on the blackstone....there's a resolution problem...cause specs are as follows:
Inside you'll find Qualcomm's MSM7200A proc running Android at 528MHz, 512MB/288MB ROM/RAM, 3.2-inch TFT-LCD with 320 x 480 pixel rez, 900/2100MHz HSPA and Quad-band GSM, trackball, GPS, 802.11b/g WiFi, 3.5mm audio jack, G-sensor, compass, and 5 megapixel auto-focus cam with microSD expansion. It's all there baby.
But this ui will be available for windows mobile too...so I guess we will get a working version by the end of this years (at latest!!!).
HTC First Look Video of whats to come.....
Full promotional video from HTC can be downloaded HERE
VERY Impressive!!!!!
Expected UK Release Date 3rd July
I think this will be my next "adventure" - the main constraint for me will be Blackberry support though.....
.
Looks like Point UI.
But it is smoothhhhhhhhh! Please port ass soon ass possible!!
the new ui is based on manila, the only difference is layout.
you have to think, the original android UI is used on all previous android devices.
this is the first UI built by HTC for the android OS.
so can be easily built for WM by HTC.
so glad i spotted this and posted it before everyone else did lol
Will HTC sence be available for htc diamond2 ???
They could do one of 3 things:-
1) Use it to sell the new devices.
2) Release it for older devices and make as huge deal of it, to show how well they treat people who buy their devices.
3) Put it on the phones which are getting the WM6.5 Updates.
3) I doubt.
2) Maybe, but unlikely.
1) Probably.

WM6.5??? Isn't it based on Android instead of WM???
the HTC Sense is coming for all OS:
http://gigaom.com/2009/06/24/htc-hero-brings-sense-to-the-market/
Looks like TF3D crossed with PountUI2. Again no WM Today support. All applet based. HTC custom applet format probably.
See video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKTDSfbcbBU
Note the browser (as this vid is Android). It will be very Ironic when Microsoft sue Google for shipping Android with Mobile Chrome
Actually the applets are not full screen AND not even screen width. PointUI responded to users and have an applet structure to utilize free screen space. I am scoring HTC with a FAIL for having to go down the same learning curve after it has already been done and proven a mistake. Bigger applets you clowns!
All i know is i want it, because if it wasn't for the HTC software on WM devices they would be rubbish!
So cant i can wait to give it a go

hehe, that is one opinion.
IMHO, if it can't be customised to be practical to your own needs then it is just extended TF3D gimmick. I may be able to swap to a calendar view in 57 different ways and view it in different 17 styles and 200 colours but if I can't decide how many days appointments to see in preview mode then we are just back to bling (another action movie with no plot).
We will wait and see
HTC Sense, TF3D 2.5 or something else on WM6.5 devices ?
Sense vs. TF3D?
it's nice i guess. more of a free flowing TF3D with MS3 sort of function. more excited about TF3D2.5 tbh.
Will this (TF3D 2.5) be able to be implemented into the cooked ROM's..
hoping so...
