I noticed that T-Mobile in the UK have issued an official ROM update for the Vario III (and the Vario IV).
Could this be an imminent sign that they will be releasing the Vario V (aka Touch Pro 2) shortly?
Has anyone tried the ROM update yet? I'm considering it but am put off by the reports of problems with GPS after updating to WM 6.1.
Vario III UK T-mobile ROMs

I'm using the newer MDA Vario III 6.1 ROM
I have updated to the 3.31 ROM and 1.70 Radio available from tmobile UK at the link above. This was a from stock to stock upgrade using tmobile's upgrade utility.
I have NO GPS issues working with TomTom and get fast fixes inside my house. The rest of the ROM seems a lot snappier and very stable compared to the 6.0 ROM. The 6.1 improvements are also quite nice to have as a carrier ROM.
Cheers

I currently have a Blue angel running in the UK on a T-Mobile rom, unlocked and actually running on an Orange sim. I would like to update my Rom and believe there is a new version out for T-Mobile. But prior to upgrading my rom I am not fussed which Rom I use. Are there any recommendations on the best base rom out there in the UK?
Is it T-Mobile, Orange, O2 etc. I know they will be much the same but individual providers sometimes provide some extras etc. I believe O2 has the battery status on the home page etc. Can anyone recommend a good flavour of Base ROM???
I believe that the i-mate 1.42 is the best rom for stability, however the latest t-mobile rom is advantageous for those needing Blackberry support. The o2 rom however comes with the o2 active interface, which many people like however it really slow's down your ppc.
I'd advise you go for the i-mate rom. Hope this is of help

I run the UK T-Mobile version 1.42 and it's pretty fast and about as stable as i-mates, imo. I'd say if you're using 1.42 now, you're really not going to do any better, overall, unless you go to WM5. Then, however, you're opening a whole new can of worms as they're all hacks and therefore slow and buggy, comparatively speaking. You can find just about any rom on this site's ftp server, ftp://xda:[email protected]
You may get the T-Mobile Rom here
I advise that you follow the WIKI for installation instructions which may be found here
Enjoy!
Thanks Mark/Splonker my device indicates the rom version 1.06.00 ENG is this the version number I should be looking at??
Also sorry for the addition. Can I just do a full backup of my device contacts etc and when I upgrade restore?? Thanks John.
So .. T-Mobile and I-Mate seem to have a 1.42 base rom out. I can find the Dutch TMO 1.42 one (I have that running now), I can find the UK TMO 1.42 one, but where is the I-Mate 1.42 one? Can't find it at I-Mate and can't find it here at XDA Devs ...
Between these three, which is the best?
xBackup not in T-MOBILE 1.42 Radio DUTCH ROM
Just upgraded to T-MOBILE 1.42 Radio DUTCH ROM got my Wireless problem solved but have another problem NO XBACKUP how can I install it???
still trying to track down the english version of the tmobile latest rom any ideas/links anyone?? Thanks John.
I've found Orange 1.31 ROM/Extended ROM and radio 1.15 the best combination so far. For me, 1.4x ROMs were slower.
My Best Roms
XDA IIs UK from O2
1.Best ROM so far without doubt for me is the BA_TMNL_14200_119_11300_Ship from T-MOBILE
AND its the fastest..
2.Best ROM (slightly slower)
XDA 1.42 115 T-Mobile Firmware
3. I-Mates 1.40 WWE with Radio 1.13
still had an issue with audio dropping from incoming calls
If you've seen any of my previous posts you'll see the hell i've been in trying to get anything to work with these ROMS, now it ALL works. and I dont say that lightly!
i tried the last 2 factory ROMS from O2 UK 140.237 & 140.242 which is there latest and I had WIFI nightmares with both of those..
Okay I had been running the leaked Qtek 9100 2.8 Rom with some great success. I just added a few of the T-Mobile comm manager and other misc applications. I recently got my MDA replaced by T-Mobile (cracked Touch Screen) and now I'm back at square one.
I was thinking maybe there was an official release of 2.8 or a newer version I can try. i don't mind living on the edge and backup regularly.
Any help is appriciated.
I am running the Imate release version (none of their customizations though - just a handful of the T-Mo ones) with good success.....
I just updated my US T-Mobile MDA to the new Qtek ROm and everything works great! Right now my guess is to try both the i-mate and Qtek ROMs out there. Good Luck!
- JOhn
If you're not going to load their respective customizations there is no codebase difference between the Imate and Qtek ROMs. Same code.
i just put the newest i-mate rom on it, then entered the T-Mobile settings for gprs/umts ( you can use program for it) its working fine...
I have a T-Mobile UK MDA III, so I went ahead and upgraded to the latest UK ROM, 1.42_112. There's also an NL one, 1.42_115. I've also upgraded Radio separately to 1.15, -- so is there any reason to try _115 still? How is it better than _112?
Try it,

Excellent
Just flashed it. Lots of bugs have been fixed. Seems to go faster too. Been trying out custom roms but not found one i am happy with yet. Cheers
Thank you for this. I will be flashing this rom in a bit. Will update!!
Can this ROM be used here in the US? What have you found in this new ROM that would be worthwhile to Flash?
Thanks in Advance for your information.

This rom is not newer than T-Mobile HR's rom
I think it is not newer than T-Mobile HR'rom.Sometimes, it still can not turn on wifi from com manager.
Have to say been testing this with it at 247 on omap and it is very fast looks like a good rom over all
Any other senior members or mods have a take on this rom yet?
It's definitely a newer version than the latest version released by T-Mobile US but I think that in order to use this here in America, you will need to CID unlock your device.

That's just saved my brick Got stuck on bootloader after a failed wm6 flash. This has sorted it out -thanks for the link as I couldn't find it in the usual place on the t-mobile site.
Has anyone tried this with the T-Mobile USA MDA?
If so, how did the upgrade process go? Were you able to upgrade directly from the latest official Tmo USA MDA ROM? Did you have to unlock the phone first?
What advantages and/or disadvantages have you noticed, from the most recent official TMOUSA MDA ROM? Does your MDA run faster now? Does stereo bluetooth work better? Is your MDA more or less stable with this ROM? Any change in its functionality as a phone? Any change in battery life?
Etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.
Will this work for US original MDA rom?
Hello everybody,
is it possible to find somewhere the WM6.0 version for my T-Mobile (german) MDA Vario III - if possible the original german version, but could be also an english version ? I have currently the original WM6.1 german on it and I am not satisfied with the performances... What would I need in addition to the WM6.0 kit?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Complain to your provider T-Mobile about the issues you are experiencing with the new ROM and that you'd like it reverted. I had this done on my HTC TyTN II under warranty for free but even if they won't revert it for you, they may provide the WM 6.0 German ROM and then you can use the procedures described here to revert it yourself. As already described the WWE ROM already linked to is very reliable and it gets lightening fast GPS locks/performance - hence I'm using it.
You did read my post replying to you on this subject at the end of Februrary didn't you?
ah, a another german tytnII (aka vario III) using tmobile
if everything fails, i think i have a dump of the 6.0 t-mobile rom my vario was shipped with.

Ok, operative1, could I dare to ask you to give me the 6.0 t-mobile rom? It would be very nice from you. Thank you in advance.
