Hi,
I'm asking for some guidance from the people who have actually changed their housing on the Xperia.
I bought a silver one with some cracks, and some marks on the housing. However, €60 for a brand new black housing would be a good deal for me, as long as I would manage to replace it succesfully.
I changed the housing on my SE P1i from the silver one to a black one before, and already found that quite hard, and now that I've seen the instruction video and read the service manual on how to change the housing, I'm a bit hesitant about replacing it, in the fear that I would break my new €200 smartphone.
So, have any of you done this, how hard was it, and how much experience did you already have dis- and reassembling phones?
Also: Did any of you manage to break anything in the process?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English,
Ed Banger

I think you can get complete housing for approx $100 if you shop around. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....Category=20345&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=1
Hi I also would like to change my housing because of some cracks, this is my first time. so will it be really difficult for a newbie?
also, where to buy to get the cheapest yet legit?
I found this cnn.cn is it safe everyone? it currently offers 79.99 USD for the full housing. is that the market price? thanks guys.
I changed a lot of phone houses and the one of xperia is easyer than nokia ones. if you follow the instructial movie on youtube you will not have any problem there are some dificult places.
here read this thread its posted by Crank1 its his experiance with changing the housing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550258
80 Dollar is the market price i think the cheaper ones are used or not originaly SE housing.
goog luck with changin the housing.
thanks for the reply, now its quite a dilemma which one I should buy, the used one is 43AUD while the new one is almost 100AUD. Is the new one really worth it? The used one description says its fascia while the 100AUD is OEM. any suggestion would be great. thanks
much harder than it looks

Yhea i beat yha
I did buy a new housing for 80$ and i did get buy a hard case for preventing it getting scratches.
so what did you do, you gonna give it a try?
80$ for housing, it must be gold housing to be charged at the price,
seriously, checkout ebay, amazon they offer lots cheaper.
i would pay $20 for housing only
Ive done a few already, not too hard if you know what you doing and be careful.
I have changed the housing of my Xperia partly. Read the story here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4403612&postcount=14
It's quite easy if the housing fits well, the cheap housing does not fit very well....
hey guys... i dont really want to change my housing cause its more or less 100%...
HOWEVER i have a slight problem with the screen not being tight (mate has the black one and apparently they dont have the problem - and i can feel his one doesnt move a mm when its extended... whereas mine has a slight give)
whats the best method to tighten it?
(will it be obvious when i pry it apart?)

yhea i have to admit the keyboard looks weird but the front is black and that looks weird on the silver one. so you have to make a choice. people see the front first and that makes the impression

I am looking to clean my xda 2i under the edges of the screen as this affects the tap accuracy.
Does anyone know of any kits, even ones involving funky screwdrivers so I can dismantle and clean (hopefully without pinging springs all over the place)
Rob
you dont need a kit just a bit of paper or thin card and run it around the edge of the screen under the facia, other than that just a standard small watch posi screw driver and a star screw driver driver, you can pick these up very cheaply, sry for got the size, if you buy a set of small ones you can strip it down in under 2 mins. there are no springs that will go ping btw

I have been doing that but unfortunately it does something but not the trick though!!! small watch posi and star screwdriver eh? I'll need to look out for those!
ps glad about the springs, thx!
hmm
well managed to take it all apart and put it all back together again.
Still same issue though, the top part of the screen is not very sensitive
in fact it looks like there is a semi circle of inactivity there!! I may need a new screen or digitizer! Is the digitizer easy to remove from the lcd screen? anyone got any ideas? also do I need to solder on the new connections?
also I am sure I saw someone talking about a new lcd screen for 10 quid or something here somewhere, it was a link to an external website...
it was just for the digitizer (the touch panel not the full tft), i picked one up on ebay, its hard to fit ;[
Hi thanks for responding....
Theres one on ebay that comes with a soldering kit and instructions.... was that like the one you got...?
plus being hard to fit, did you managed to fit it in the end, and if so what did you find that helped...
alternatively where can you get it fitted by a professional?
not seen that one, mine was just the digitizer, and i am no stranger to the use of a soldering iron, you could get a local single trader shop, the sort that sell second hand mobiles and does mobile repairs, to do it for you, for a price

Hi relbourn,
where can I find that all in one digitizer package from ebay ?
My O2 XDA IIi experienceing the same problem as you now :-(
I live in Australia, but still can't find any store which can do O2 digitiser repairs for me.
Cheers
I have had a look at it, and also took apart my xda 2i twice now for a check and decided that its a bit risky to do, re-soldering,
the kit model is here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=260199263230&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016
however I managed to find this screen (complete) from ebay too which includes the lcd screen, you may notice when you take yours apart it fits together with no soldering, kinda clips on, this looks far easier and for a slightly less than expected increment in price.....

on the second link to the full lcd screen it says tha it is for O2 xda2 or Qtek 2020, not O2 xda2i or Qtek 2020i... i-ve found on these forums that the lcds from the two models are different and you cant use from one model on the other... it doesn't fit... so search for a lcd for QTEK 2020i or O2 XDA2i
Hey..
is it possible to get the orig. black case to change it with steel silver :-\ i googled for a while but didnt find anything
Look in Ebay for it, I mean, I've never seen one there (nor look for it), but, I've seen at least two "dummy" black phones, you know, those that the sellers use to show the customers the device without actually "risking" one real phone or before they're actually in production.
cheers
mh... i dont find any dummies
You have to look several times in Ebay to find something like this (not always, but sometimes), anyway, I just look for it right now, and guess what, here's your link:
http://cgi.ebay.it/NEU-DUMMY-Sony-E...3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:3|65:1|39:1|240:1318
There are 4 of them, but only this one is black, it is in Germany, I don't know where are you but I hope I could be of use.
kay thx... :-D does anyone think its possible to change it ?!
ok.. i just read this thread and watched those videos...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471443
its not as easy as i thought...
Easiness depends on your point of view, or as somebody who's name I can't recall said "Everything is relative" (to the reference of your point of view), I think it was a German person with hebrew origins, who knows...
Hi Bongdelong,
I have just purchased a display model and will be replacing the plastic frontage as the chep as hell silicone casing i bought (steer clear if you can) got some sort of grit or something underneath it and has scratched it to hell. I have broken down many phones in the past to replace casings so i already have all the kit needed to do so.
I will let you know how i get on when it arrives (it is coming from Austrailia and i live in the UK so it may be a week or two)

DON'T BUY Xperia dummy phones, they are made of plastic!
I've seen a dummy phone in a shop adn I've asked to touch it and... it is all plastic. It seems metale, but I assure it's plastic
ok thx for this information... i spoke with a dummy reseller on ebay... he told me that the dummys are not with inserted nuts like the original.. its just bonded
Many thanks motopic,
I'll try to cancel the order before shipment. If not, anyone fancy a dummy X1? hehe
Creamy
I just received my australian silver X1 dummy, it is made of plastic and it looks different inside.
Don't order them! I did.
Bad Times buddy, i managed to cancel the transaction and have my cash refunded.
Creamy
I have a black Xperia and I must say that I now want a silver one more than ever.
you want silver ?! i want black lets switch
You don't want my case. It has sharp edges and one scratch on the return key.
The best thing about it: This was out of the box
damn! i ordered black and silver dummy. now i read they are bounded and have no screws? is this right? also no alumminium? COMPLETLY WORTHLESS??? =( damn!
Not completely ... you can use them to hammer nails into walls or throw them at your girlfriend if she goes crazy ...
haha =(
is there any way to get the original casing? (i just need the back frame because its cracked)
I also need a spare case and I would buy one instantaneously if there would be one available.
Hey,
Just looking for some advice where I should go for a cheap solution on how to fix my phone. Basically, everything still works great! Apart from the big crack, the screen doesn't seem to have been damaged (eg. All the pixels look fine, touch still works, only glass/plastic panel is cracked)
I'm actually really impressed by how it took such a hard hit and the device works fine, the screen didn't even smash! Basically it nudged in between my car seat where you close the door, didn't realise it fell out my pocket and closed the door (you could imagine it would be a hard hit) and the phone lives.
If I just needed the glass replaced, can it be done DIY? Or should I not bother and give it to a service centre? I got it from 3 but I know they'll probably overcharge me for something like this..
Any suggestions welcome, thanks!
if the damage is only to the exterior screen then you may want to consider getting this:

be carful! the screen from my firlfreidns diamond is broken too and I had ordered one of those touchscreens... but the screen which comes has no "window" for the frontcamera and after disassembling the phone I saw that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame.
Replacement LCD & Digitiser
I recently replaced an lcd and digitiser on a HTC Touch Diamond. I bought the complete screen (lcd & digitiser) as one pre-assembled unit from a guy on Ebay (£34.99). Fits straight into the front of the unit frame. I don't think you can remove just the digitiser because it is stuck onto the LCD, and the LCD itself is very fragile. Disassembly is fairly straight forward if you've got the right tools.
Thanks for all your help guys! I've just been bogged down with work so havn't been able to get back here for awhile.
I've taken some time to look into the webiste and others, decided to just order it off ebay in the end anyways. However, taking note from the previous 2 posts, would I be wasting my time ordering just the digitiser itself? I would assume that's what HerrVorragend also meant by "that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame."
If so, why do they bother selling them online separately? I guess I won't really find an answer, just seems stupid to me. Anyways, guess I'm stuck purchasing both LCD + Digitiser but as a final question, does anyone have any guidelines as how I should replace this myself? I'm very paranoid about this sort of thing because it's only 1 month old, however, I have also replaced an LCD on my old Nokia 6280 before using a step-by-step picture guide online.
Don't think I'd have much luck finding one for this model, hey.. haha.
Once again, thanks!
Double posted, sorry.

If you google for HTC Diamond Service Manual, that will help greatly with assembly and disassembly - there are also a couple of videos on Youtube. From my experience the most tricky part is re-connecting the two flex connectors when you re-install the main board. I use the back of a pair of tweezers to slide underneath the connector carefully. If you are nervous about doing it and happy to cover postage costs, I can replace the LCD for you - PM me for details and I'll see what i can do.

from where ı can find it? since one month I searching for it
This might sound crazy but...Take apart the device. Bust out the broken glass and just put all back together. Get a protective carrying case. Won't be an eyesore anymore and you can quit looking for that little piece.
and Leoni, are you selling the part or just showing off? HA.
Okay I found something that looks like it contains what you need.
I'm thinking you buy it. Remove what you want and sell the rest as is gently used.

Or what about a dummy phone? They might use the same glass! And you'll have a toy!

beggers cant be choosers
Honestly I think the dummy phone purchase may be your way to go.
You would only be spending about $25-30 USD to have a possible fix.
If this part WERE available, I imagine it costing at least $10-20 USD.
Beggars can be choosers, but you just have less to choose from!
still could not find any seperate insert plastic ):
in fact I have same problem , the first crack appeared after two weeks maybe , then another one after next two weeks , look pretty shattered by now , but surprisingly pics still do come out al right
doesn't really affect the phone , just ruins it visually , and the funny thing is that HTC in the warranty agreement specified already that any external damage to the screen , camera , lens etc. is not covered by the warranty
I wonder if my phone brakes down for a different reason and I send it back , would they void it since I had the camera glass broken , claiming I was handling is roughly

you probably wont find something that small of a part being sold separately, so your best bet is buying the whole case listed before and using the part out of it, or swapping all your stuff over to it. Not expensive but probably all you can hope for unless someone is selling parts off.
broken camera glass
i also broke mine sent it back to htc and for £71.00 inc collection and delivery they replaced it it comes back wiped so back up first
71 pounds for a simple piece of plate-glass that can even be removed and reinstalled without opening the housing? That sounds fairly pricey to me...
And seeing that a lot of people are experiencing the same problem (including myself) wouldn't it be nice if HTC would recognise the design flaw and send out $0.05 pieces of glass to everyone needing one? But knowing HTC that is not gonna happen
I for one am thinking about grinding a thin piece of plexiglass into the right shape and using that. A replacement piece of glass is just going to break again anyway...
Hi Guys,
after putting one of these QI receivers with adhesive on my P9 and having it there for a few month, the back cover got a slight dent. Nothing major but it reeaaally bugs me. I have the P9 in grey but after seeing the blue one i figured i wanted to replace the back side with the blue one. The problem is: I can not find it anywhere. The colours available from release are all there, even the red one shows up here and there but not the blue one. Has anyone of you guys seen it around anywhere?

hi,
you can not replace the back cover as it is a unibody phone. meaning you would have to remove the entire screen, motherboard and transfer it into another empty uniboday frame

it is true and i totally understood what you said. But the grey part is a unibody metal piece that can not be simply removed as if it was the BACK COVER of a samsung galaxy s2 which allows you to put in/take out the sim card, battery and micro sd card.
Probably easier too buy a skin from dBrand
As aceclift said, you can just take back cover from another phone and just put it there. If you actually watched those teardown and read what they said about it, its unibody that contain few major components, and you actually need to put all internals from your device, including most tricky part, the screen, to that new housing.
And I can say that looking and your approach to that question, you would fail to disassemble your device and replace that housing, because its not "plug&play" you need some knowledge, experience and patience to do this.
Also Blue and Red versions of P9 are actually really exclusive versions, and its hard to get them(I wanted red so trust me I searched for it for some time). So if its hard to find actuall phone, finding housing from it its almost impossible.
As telsims said, its better and cheaper to buy Dband skin::
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/accessories/skin-dband-supports-huawei-p9-t3388706
I made one my self with carbon fiber look and its amazing, so if you bought one it would be even better.

I had a Dbrand skin on it for a while but i just did not like at and the blue just looks amazing. I don't know, where you see the difficulties here. I mean you unscrew two screws get the assembled unit out of the frame and disconnect the fingerprint sensor. Done. You can buy the unibody in the other colours including the fingerprint sensor and the you just connect the fingerprint sensor put the unit back in and insert the screws. I once replaced the screen from a HTC One X and that was a lot more complicated.
I mean look at the ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDPRtzjqSlo its just that last three steps.
original back housing of Huawei P9
If you want to change the skin of Huawei P9, replace the back housing of Huawei p9. I followed the video of witrigs to replace the back housing. It looks great. Blue is the best color!
